Consider the trees which allow the birds to perch and fly away

without either inviting them to stay or desiring them

never to depart. If your heart can be like this,

you will be near to the way.

The important thing to remember is that peace comes from within your own heart and mind, not from some outside source, and when you refuse to be disturbed by things about you, life will flood your being with dynamic energy. unattributed

Though I might travel afar, I will meet only what I carry with me, for every man and woman is a mirror. We see only ourselves reflected in those around us. Their attitudes and actions are only a reflection of our own. The whole world and its condition has its counter parts within us all. Turn the gaze inward. Correct yourself and your world will change.

When we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that's present--love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature, and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure--the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience heaven on earth. -Sarah Ban Breathnach

    If I accept you as you are, I will make you worse;

however if I treat you as though you are what you are

capable of becoming, I help you become that.

Let us learn to accept ourselves--accept the truth that we are capable in some directions and limited in others, that genius is rare, that mediocrity is a portion of almost all of us, but that we can contribute from the storehouse of our skills to the enrichment of our common life. -Joshua Liebman

When indeed shall we learn that we are all related one to the other, that we are all members of one body? Until the spirit of love for our fellow people, regardless of race, color, or creed, shall fill the world, making real in our lives and our deeds the actuality of human brother- and sisterhood, until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other's welfare, social justice can never be attained. -Helen Keller

Steve Jobs' Three Rules of Life ...

    1. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.

    2. Don't be trapped by dogma -
which is living with the results of other people's thinking.
Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice.

    3. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition -
they somehow already know what you truly want to become.
    - Steve Jobs

I believe that the first test of a truly great person is one's humility. I do not mean by humility, doubt of one's own powers. But really great people have a curious feeling that the greatness is not in them but through them. And they see something divine in every other person. -John Ruskin

The ideals which have lighted me on my way and time after time given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. . . . The ordinary objects of human endeavor--property, outward success, luxury--have always seemed to me contemptible. -Albert Einstein

Whatever our individual troubles and challenges may be, it's important to pause every now and then to appreciate all that we have, on every level. We need to literally "count our blessings," give thanks for them, allow ourselves to enjoy them, and relish the experience of prosperity we already have. -Shakti Gawain

How could I feel so miserable in the midst of such splendor? The question flashed through me all at once, not waiting for words to express it. The answer came more slowly: No one makes you angry. Anger, like love, is something you choose. Stunned, I sat down in the middle of the field I'd been walking through. I knew I needed to look within myself, let go of my anger and have a quiet talk with God. -Susan L. Taylor

Angry people are insecure people. Anger becomes a face-saving device to cover up deficiencies of another sort. Don't be fooled by the domineering character of an angry person. Know that during moments of anger there dwells a poor self-image. -Shantidasa

One of the things we must develop is a capacity for exploration, a searching for meanings and connections. The search itself is crucial. If you are not asking the hard questions of life, if you are not carefully testing what others tell you, then you are not engaged with all the potential aspects of your own unique and wonderful life. -Sallirae Henderson

The more authentic you become, the more genuine in your expression, particularly regarding personal experiences and even self-doubts, the more people can relate to your expression and the safer it makes them feel to express themselves. That expression in turn feeds back on the other person's spirit, and genuine creative empathy takes place, producing new insights and learnings. -Stephen Covey

The further you distance yourself from your expectations, the more exhilarating your life will become. Though a situation in which you find yourself may not correspond to your initial wants, needs, or goals, ask yourself how you can make the most of it and then do your best to adapt. Your life's journey will likely take many unpredicted and astonishing twists because you are willing to release your expectations.

Dear Illinois ladies, I hope everyone is safe from yesterday's chemical plant explosion in Rockton. It made the news here in southern Wisconsin. The smoke plume actually showed up on weather radar. Best wishes from your neighbor to the north. ♥

We must work on our souls, enlarging and expanding them. We do so by experiencing all of life-- the beauty and the joy as well as the grief and pain. Soul work requires paying attention to life, to the laughter and the sorrow, the enlightening and the frightening, the inspiring and the silly. -Matthew Fox

If we pretend to be more enlightened than we really are, we will miss an opportunity to heal ourselves. Admitting our limitations can make us feel vulnerable, yet it is very freeing. We just have to be ourselves as we are now, accepting the mixture of enlightened awareness and human limitation that is in each of us. Through this self-acceptance, we find a deep peace and self-love. Shakti Gawain

Someday, after we have mastered the winds, the waves,
the tide and gravity, we shall harness for God
the energies of love. Then, for the second time in the
history of the world, humans will have discovered fire.

As I experience it, appreciation of beauty is access to the soul. With beauty in our lives, we walk and carry ourselves more lightly and with a different look in our eyes. To look into the eyes of someone beholding beauty is to look through the windows of the soul. Anytime we catch a glimpse of soul, beauty is there; anytime we catch our breath and feel "How beautiful!," the soul is present. -Jean Shinoda Bolen

Looking for and enjoying beauty is another way to nourish the soul. The universe is in the habit of making beauty. There are flowers and songs, snowflakes and smiles, acts of great courage, laughter between friends, a job well done, the smell of fresh-baked bread. Beauty is everywhere, ready to nourish the soul. It must only be seen to begin helping us. - Matthew

Your worth is not measured by what you do. Nor can you calculate the degree of your worthiness by what you possess. Your worth is a function of your being. Your being is colorless, genderless, and believe it or not, ageless. Your being is worthy of honor, admiration, and respect. It is a vessel of love and light. It is a beacon of inspiration. -Iyanla Vanzant

Our rushing and our busyness create a fog layer that

encloses us, surrounding us with thicker and thicker

layers externally and building denser and denser fog

layers within. Pretty soon, we have lost touch with

that which guides our lives. We need contact with

our spirituality to be the people we would like to be.

We all have choices to make about the quality of our presence and how we will affect those around us. The quality of our presence is dependent not on what we can or cannot "do" but on the essence of who we are and how we relate to others.Becoming the presence we would like to be is an intentional work. It grows while we make peace with ourselves and with life. -Sallirae Henderson
