Hi all -
Saw my surgeon today and my MRI results were good! Future - yearly mamo and mri's. Now I'm questioning whether I'm really er-pr-. My % was low for each so my onc called me neg, but not sure if my surgeon agrees. Will be looking into this soon!
Wendy the Younger - thinking and praying for you today!
Irina-welcome and I hope the new doctor works out for you and finds a good tx for you.
Laura-glad Vegas was great - wish I could go!!!
Wendy the wrinkled wombat? No way! Windy Wendy is good!
Jackie- your posts are very helpful to me - keep reminding us about the importance of positive attitude.
Jan, Rita, Connie, Susan and everyone else I missed today, I wish you a wonderful tomorrow!

Hi everyone! I was also checking to see if there was any news of Wendy the younger!
I did indeed get called in again for another jury pool! This time I was actually picked for the jury! It was a 6 person civil case- an auto accident where everyone was counter-suing everyone else. We listened to a long (but interesting) lecture from the judge that covered everything from the history of the building we were in (don't know why we had to know that) to Shakespeare's true meaning of the phrase "First, kill all the lawyers" (According to the judge, it's a compliment because the person saying it is planning an overthrow of the government, meaning that there would be no law and things would be easier to take over...) to the meaning of the Magna Carta. Hmm, I got the feeling that the judge used his opening jury statement as a way of "enlivening" the proceedings. I don't think they get many jury trails, since so many people seem to either settle or opt for a bench trial. Then there were opening statements from the attorneys, finally the first plaintiff testified and we broke for a late lunch. After lunch, we had to wait in the jury room for about 40 more minutes and then the judge came back and told us that the parties had settled. He seemed darned disappointed!
Because we didn't actually complete the trail, my number goes back in, but the jury clerk didn't think we would be called again.
So I get to go to work tomorrow, but I have to call in after 11:00 just to make sure my jury service is officially over. It was interesting, I'll give you that!
Blackjack- I hope you feel better soon!
Michele- that's great news, glad to hear that your MRIs were clear!
Wow- just turned on what I thought would be the news and caught the end of American Idol. I'm giddily happy to find out that David Cook won! I just like him- he seems to have a lot of talent.
Now to bed- have to actually work tomorrow!

Hi all. I'm back from Mt. Vernon. Wow !!!! I'll be going to that place again for glasses. Of course, I will have to have another eye exam later---this place only has an optometrist, but the glasses are so reasonable. Got designer frames and still the whole thing was about $350.00. I haven't gotten off so cheaply in years---and I actually like the glasses for a change.
Guess I do tend to have more of a positive attitude most of the time since several of you have mentioned that. I have sometimes wondered because I don't know that I always feel it on a deeply personal level, but I sure want to do all I can for others so that they feel it. Of course, I've been sure for a long time that I'm going to be in my 90's when I leave this life behind---so the seed of positive possibilities has always been in me. I also have a tendency not to believe things too much without checking them out. I have always thought that is why I'm not easily convinced of especially negative things. In my younger years I was naive' and believed most anything and then I grew up and realized what disaster I was courting. Anyway, somewhere along the way, I learned to not cave in too quickly when bad things came my way....there have been plenty, but I keep coming out the other side of them ok.
Well anyway....I have to start getting ready for work tomorrow...was a long day today.
We did stay at the King City Mall in Mt. Vernon for a good length of time because the people from Oklahoma were there from the wild animal refuge park and had a bunch of baby animals and were they adorable. Their were two baby black bears, and two tiger cubs ( pretty small ) a baby Arctic fox, two baby piglets, 1 big tiger though he was only about a yr. old. All so adorable and cute. The black bear cubs were chasing each other, and had a slide and small jungle gym in their cage and they were having a ball chasing each other through all of these things.....very energetic. You can pay ( it all goes to help the rescued animals--(most of which were rescued from people who were foolish enough to try and keep some of these animals for house-type pets and then get into trouble with them) and go into the cage with one of the smaller tiger cubs who is used to people---she's just past baby size--and get pictures while your petting her or just sitting next to her. Anyway, we stayed there and talked to some of the workers for some time. They will still be there when I go back on Saturday to pick up my glasses. I'll be glad to get another opportunity to see them.
Anyway, glad you all seem fine.
How about Winsome Wendy....that means causing joy or pleasure.
Ok, I'm gone......nuf' of me for tonight.

Sorry gals, I'm late getting this posted. After I got the last phone call we went and picked out flowers for my pots, etc. and time got away from us.
Wendy the Younger went into surgery today right on schedule. Her mom called me at 12:50 to say that they had just taken her. Her sister called at 6:00 to tell me that she had come through the surgery well. According to her sister, the surgery went just as expected...both on the surgeon's side and the plastic surgeon's side. I asked if she knew how many lymph nodes were taken and she didn't know for sure. They were told earlier that they would take at least 8 and she didn't know how many they actually took. She is supposed to come home on Friday if all goes as expected.
I'll check on her tomorrow and see how she's doing. Her sister said that the path report might be ready tomorrow.
I'll also get caught up on all the posts and try to be a bit more social! LOL
Thanks for all those good vibes you sent this way. You are one special group of ladies!
Good night!

Hi All,
I have to go to bed but.......I had to stop in. We finished the mulch, yeah!!!
How about Wendy the wondergirl or No 1 Wendy.
Jackie you always bring me back to positive, thank you.
Connie, Vic said he would wait considering you just finished chemo and you're still healing and your gums heal too, nothing will happen, your teeth won't fall out. He asked where the recession is and how many millimeters??? lower anteriors????? Start using a super soft toothbrush, he likes Oral B triumph, with a post surgical head, very soft. Also, rinse with peroxide and water and don't forget to floss. Let me know where the recession is and how much, and I'll let him know, then he can give you better advice. Vic also said you should expect healing for at least a year post chemo, and he wouldn't rush into anything.
Love you all talk to you in the am
0 -
Morning! This is all you're getting this am as photobucket won't open for me....sorry!
OK, OK....Windy Wendy,Connie? Reminds me of what my cousin used to call me when I was litle..."Captain Windjammer". And if I hear ANY of you call me that next week...well, I will have to smack you over the head with my Cosmo.
Jackie.....you need to get your butt up here (or we all need to get down there). You are so special and always give us something to think about, sometimes cry about....but always laugh about. Thanks for being here.
Leesa....glad your mulching is done. Care to come and do mine???? Only kidding...landscapers come in the next few weeks to do that and a bunch of other stuff. And PLEASE thank Vic for all his help with Connie's gum problem...what he said does make a lot of sense. I am one year out of chemo and my one badly receded gum is just now starting to come back, but then she said is probably would and to just watch it. Tell Vic he is now the official dentist of the IL Ladies Bunch! Hmmm....can we talk about a discount on braces???? Always did want straight teeth! LOL
Wendy the Younger....sounds like you sailed thru surgery just fine. Good thing you had that silly surgical cap on or they wouldn't have been paying much attention to your surgery but would have been focusing on your cute hairstyle. Hugs, Honey! We're rootin' for ya!
Rita....have you been golfing yet? Wow...bathroom will be done next week? Yay! Good thing you are coming up here....you will need to do LOTS of shopping for new bathroom stuff. Bring samples of paint, wallpaper etc so you can match colors. Give Wendy the Younger a hug especially from me if you see her over the weekend.
JanClare.....sounds like your week wasn't too bad after all. Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday...but I am glad about your Jury Duty. We got to "talk" to you more often.
Mich101...whew! Made it thru the tests with flying colors! Isn't it great! Can't wait to meet you either....
Susan....almost done! Do you have it figured out in hours yet?
Julie, Brenda....how are you guys doing? Need anything?
Gotta run.....I check in later ....Tops down, fists up!!!!!!!

Good Morning. Susan my visit to dr. 11-15am.

Goood morning! I just have a few minutes before I need to hop in the shower (gosh I bet you're glad to hear that I'm practicing proper hygiene, eh?) and start my day! I just wanted to say YEAHHHHHH to Michele and Julie!
Michele, I'm so happy that the scans were good! Gosh! Now you're on the one-year schedule! Lucky you! I'm still going every 6 months and have my next one on June 2nd. (yuck) Congrats on the good report!
Julie...wow! Your good cat scan and bone scan deserves a YAHOO too! Now you can put that worry behind you and just deal with the treatments. I will be thinking about you today as you head for that first chemo. I was so afraid when I first walked through the doors of that chemo room, but actually the treatment was rather "ho-hum." You can do it! Let us know how it goes.........
#1 Wendy....no matter what we call you, we still love you!!!!!
I'm off and running. Have a great day, ladies!

Mornin Ah heck, we are getting rain today--Starting to get tired of this, but I need to remember how parched we get in late July and August. Well I'll have a little sun just thinking about all the good results that have been reported lately...Mich--good MRI, Leesa, ok with chemo, Wendy the Y....good surgery, may not see sun today but what sunny thoughts of everyone doing fine.
Sabrina, Calypso, Nicki....how are all of you?
Well, I need to get ready for work. Probably see ya later.

Thanks sooo much for the advice Leesa (and Vic). It does make a lot of sense. I have the teeth numbers at home and will post them later. 4 are on the top and one on the bottom. I don't know if I know the millimeters. I suppose I could get out my ruler. lol. I asked around my family and all of my siblings say they have a little recession, but they have all been told to just keep an eye on it. And they all mentioned electric toothbrushes! I haven't gone back and talked to my dentist about it so I may give him a call.
Glad to hear your news, Mich101. I go for mine on June 2nd.
Glad to hear that Wendy got through her surgery fine. Hoping for good path results.
Enjoy the day girls. It's supposed to finally warm up this weekend!

Hello everyone, sorry to kind of "cut in" to your thread, but I saw the thread title & wanted to say hi.
I'm Julie R, just turned 42, living in Schaumburg, IL ( NW suburb of Chicago - with a giant shopping mall, haha).
(I see that there's another Julie on this thread, so I've tacked on my last initial
I was just dx & am now beginning this confusing, scary, surreal journey. I'm hoping to find some local resources, maybe support groups - I don't really know what I need (or want?) yet... I go from crying, to being angry, to cracking jokes -
I'm going for my MRI this afternoon to see if there are any additional supsicious areas before we figure out what's next.
Finding this board was definitely a good place to start. I don't feel as alone now - I don't know anyone else who has been dx with breast cancer.
Just wanted to reach out & say hi. Hope you all are having a good day. Julie R

Welcome, Julie. Sorry you had to join us, but glad you found this site. Ladies here have a wealth of info, and are the most supportive group I have ever encountered. We are getting together Wed for dinner at that big mall near you, and you are welcome to join us if you can. Come back and talk to us after your MRI. We care.

Hi All,
I have been off the computer, and up to my ears in construction dust! Even slept one night in a twin bed with my DH! Talk about cuddling, yikes!
Wendy the Wonderful fits, I think.
WAM...I'm thinking of you today, and sending good vibes.
Julie Good luck at your first chemo. I'm hoping for the fewest se's for you.
Brenda....Thinking of you too.
Connie...My dentist agrees with Vic. My DH had severe periodontal disease, and he totally recovered with the cleanings, flossing, and peroxide. The conservative approach can work.
Have to go see to the dust, but will try to come back later.
Thinking of you all everyday.
Pat

Julie R.....so sorry that you are having to meet us this way, but in truth it's how we all started, and I'm sure most of us shared your exact feelings and sensations upon finding out what we had.
Pat is sooo right. You will get all the support you can handle here so we hope you will stay. I shudder to think how my journey might have been had I not found this place.
There are a few others here just beginning the journey, and many that are basically through the more intense part and only wish to help and be of comfort. Just meaning that no matter where you are with things someone has gone through what you are going through and can help you along your personal path.
We laugh together, cry together, tease together and hold each other up---and there are many from your area and they all do try to meet and have lunch or something once a month. I hope you will consider meeting them this coming week---but be warned, I'll be envious....I live four hours away and so far haven't managed to make an outing. I will though one of these days.
So, keep taking deep breaths thinking of anything that conjures up gentle and serene pictures in your mind and though it may be fruitless, try not to worry too much. Until you get all your test results, you won't know what your worrying about and that opens the door to way too much.
Hope to see you again here soon and know that many more people will chime in here for you.

OK...I give up. All I get when I try and open photobucket is a black screen...
Julie R....welcome! So sorry that you had to find us, but very glad you did! We are a tough little group, around since January 2007 and as Jackie said, we try to get together about once a month....Maggiano's right by Woodfield and I bet you know where that is! As a matter of fact we are now famous there....they are putting a picture of us on the wall and we get free desserts!! Would you be able to join us? Our next "support group meeting" is 5/28 at 6:15 pm. So far we have eleven coming and we would so welcome you! We have all different types of BC, some with mastectomies, some lumpectomies, some with reconstruction, others with none, all different types of chemo and most of us have had radiation. Some of us are past tx, some in the middle, a few just starting out. And....we're fun and funny and gorgeous and generous and supportive AND ... we all have shoulders to cry on, and HUGE arms for HUGE hugs! Anything you need, or want to ask...or if you just want to come here and vent and cry and scream...well, that is what we are here for! Anytime...24/7!
Just checking to see if any news on WendytheYounger....hope you are doing well!
And I think I need to remodel my bathroom! House is only 7 years old but it was a spec house so I didn't get to pick anything, or I would have picked the high cabinets, no vinyl flooring and I would have ditched those "hollywood" makeup light strips for sure! And then again...listening to all you brave souls....I think my bathroom is just fine!
I did get soooo lucky tho this am...after 2 weeks of going back and forth re: going to Fl DH said yes, let's go and of course...airfares...$367. to Orlando? Plus taxes? I don't think so. Tried off and on for 6 days (of course, couldn't use my miles) and I just got tired of waiting and was afraid the seats would fill up. Went on this am at 6 and it was $372. Tried at 9am and....$198!!!!! Yay!!!!! Wanted to grab the 8:30am plane but are settling for the 2:45 plane, and then we have to drive over oceanside, but I think that will be fine. So...something to look forward to!
Everyone....gosh that was a boring story and who really cares...so sorry! I hope you are all having a wonderful sunny, albeit cool, day. I saw at noontime that it will remain cool thru tomorrow night then Sat in the 70's and Sunday in the 80"s with some rain maybe on Monday. Hmmmmm....I'll believe that when I see it!
Tops down, fists up!

Hi gals....just a quickie.
I just received a call from Wendy the Younger. She is awaiting a visit from the plastic surgeon. They have told her that she can't have anything to eat after midnight tonight because she will be having another surgery tomorrow. At this point we don't know much about this. Apparently the breast tissue/skin is dying so I don't know if they are going to have to remove the implant or what. I am headed for Peoria right now and will check in later if I have any news.
Keep those good vibes headed south!

Afternoon Ladies!! Welcome Julie R! Sorry you have a need for us but..... This has to be the greatest group ever!! Can't wait till I can join them for the "monthly" lunch again! You may enter the restaurant a stranger, but you'll feel like you've known the gals forever when you leave!! Do you know what kind of cancer you have? Or what your treatments are going to be?
Wendy the younger prayers are coming your way..........
Keeping busy here.. should have baby fish this summer! Need to get busy this weekend & take care of the yard work ( that dh hasn't got to yet!) Wish I had Leesa's energy!!
Everyone have a great day!

Welcome Julie - so sorry you have to be here. I am 40 and was dx last March (07). I understand your fear. Please stay on this thread as this is the best group of gals. Let us know how you are doing and try to come to dinner next week. I never joined any other support group other than on this website. I have two small kids and I just didn't have time to go anywhere. I got sooo much support right here.
Leesa - the teeth that are suspicious are 5,6,10, 11 and 24. 24 was the one my dentist noticed and sent me in for, but the periodontist tells me the top 4 are the ones that are most serious. He did make several comments about how lucky I am that I got to him early, etc. So, I'm thinking it's not that bad and he's just trying to make some dough. I pretty much decided today that I'm not doing anything this summer except research this, maybe a second opinion and we will see how it is in the fall.
Sorry to hear about Wendy the Younger and the additional surgery. I sure hope it's not serious. She is in my prayers.
Wendy the Wise - very excited about your airfare! Not a boring story to me. We are taking the kids to Florida over Christmas and I am anxiously awaiting Southwest's fares as everything else is outrageous. I'm hoping they come in low when they finally open up.

Julie R-Welcome to our group and sorry that you have to be here. Let us know how your MRI went and ask us anything you like, someone can provide you with info.
Wendy the Younger-hugs to you from all of us.

Hi ladies...I'm back from the hospital and Wendy the Younger's surgery for tomorrow is "up in the air." By the time I had arrived, the plastic surgeon had been in. It was not the implant that was the issue but the breast tissue. I guess she'd had a tissue donor procedure which is fairly new. The surgeon looked at the site this morning and was very alarmed because the area was turning blue, which indicates death of the tissue due to lack of blood supply. She put in the order for no food after midnight and got in touch with the plastic surgeon who was not as upset about it. He thinks it is bruised. They are watching it and she is not being given anything after midnight in case they do have to go in tomorrow morning. Nothing like being in limbo!
She was moving around pretty well and looked pretty good. Her hair still looked really cute and she had color in her cheeks. I am so hoping that this additional surgery is not needed. They had her on oxygen because they thought the additional oxygen would help the matter.
If they don't do surgery, she still expects to get out of there tomorrow. Pat, you probably understand all this much better than I do...........My hat goes off to you. I could never be a nurse.
I need to get caught up on all the posts. I feel like I'm far.....far....away from it all but I'm too tired to do that tonight.
Have a good Friday!

Hi everyone.
Julie R, welcome. Good luck with your upcoming news. I was diagnosed April 23 and have been through the whirlwind of appts and started chemo yesterday. The boards have been wonderful with advice and it does make the process so much easier to get feedback from others here. Hugs to you.
Rita, thanks for the update on Wendy. I am glad that she is doing well. I am thinking about plastic surgery much later down the road, and so I am curious about the process. However at this point I am not going to even spend much time thinking about it....too much else going on. She's lucky to have you there:)
First chemo yesterday and it was a long day. 9 - 4:30. Mu husband went with which was nice because he took notes about everything while I tried to listen. The nurse was wonderful.
They told me that I needed to call about the Neulasta shot to make sure that I had it for Friday or next Monday at the latest! I asked how that would work with the holiday weekend, but it seems no one had thought about that:) Guess I need to ask more questions huh? Anyway the shot issue didn't get resolved until the moment I left. They are sending it overnight last night, because otherwise the next delivery day would be Tuesday because of the holiday which was too late. Funny huh?
Anyway I didn't like the A part of TAC. I can't remember what the exact name it is, but the nurse had to push it through. I told her that my heart felt like it was beating faster but she said basically that it was probabaly psychosomatic:) Too funny.....otherwise just a long day.
I was tired when I got home, but went to bed early. However I got up every couple of hours to go to the bathroom, and didn't sleep too well once 4 rolled around so I am spending some time on the computer and trying to decide if I should go to work on not. I might go in half day, and then see how it goes.
Anyone know of any good places to go for wigs, the nurse assured me that all my hair would be gone by the second treatment. I might get one for my kid's sake and I have a script which is always nice. I know I can order over the internet, but does anyone know of a good place on the northwest side of Chicago?
Thanks for listening and have a great weekend.
Julie M (added for the sake of Julie R:)

Just a quickie note to Julie M....
There is still (I think) a HUGE wig place on Milwaukee, just N of Irving Park....6 corners? Don't remember the name, but it was on the E side of Milwaukee...try and google wigs and Chicago, or maybe just look it up in the yellow pages! Do we ever do that anymore! That way you can actually try some on and see what you like and what shades will work for you (and hint, hint...then you can go to wigs.com and order them as they will be so much cheaper...one of our members found that out the hard $$$$ way)
Hope this helps! A is adriamycin and heart palpatations are so NOT psychosomatic! She "pushed" a little too quickly for you...maybe ask to slow down the push next time???? Of course, it was your first time and your heart rate was probably up a bit...maybe that's what the nurse meant. You might just do perfectly well the next time. JMHO!
Hugs, honey!
PS to Rita....that donor tissue is cadaver tissue...alloderm...with all dna removed and usually does not cause any problems so maybe PS was correct and it is bruising. I was not aware that she had implants or had previous surgery...did I miss something? Oh well...you probably told me and I forgot...gee, what else is new?

Wow, thanks so much for the warm welcome.
Yesterday was my first breast MRI - what an experience. My knees were locked up by the end, and when I got up I was walking like a 100 year old woman, haha. Anyway - I am hoping to hear something today, but most likely I have to wait until Tuesday.
So far, I know that I have IDC - Stage 1 or early Stage 2. I am awaiting a copy of my biopsy path report.
I am hoping & praying that there is nothing else on the MRI.
I had my baseline mammo in 12/07. They saw something, had me back for a diagnostic, said it was nothing & sent me home. 2 weeks ago I found a lump in the same area!! How about that.
Thank you so very much for inviting me to join you at Maggiano's. I am having a tooth pulled the day before (oy vey - more fun stuff), and if I am not in too much pain, I would LOVE to join you.
I'm really glad I found you guys. Have a nice day & a great weekend - I don't go online super-often, but try to do it almost every day.
Take care, JulieR0 -
PS - if I can make it to Maggiano's, where do I go ? Do I just walk in & ask for the table of AWESOME women ??
