Welcome to this site, Carol and Henson (I'm ILC also). Carol, you are going to rival Wendy and Laura in the humor department! A good sense of humor is essential! Welcome back, Deb. Hope you get your doctor situation solved.
I had to laugh at the Thelma and Louis reference. Then Wendy the elder (I think) said Thelma and Louise and Louise, which reminded me of "my brother Darrell and my other brother Darrell". What TV show was that from, anyone remember?
Jackie, have a good weekend at home. I'm glad you are enjoying reading again. Tell Denny I said hello!
Everyone who is going to Starved Rock tomorrow, have a GREAT time! It's supposed to quit raining and be cooler here, so hope that is the case there as well.
Had my onc 6 mo. app't yesterday. He found a node under my left arm (good side), so today I'm having a CT and ultrasound at Susan G. Komen. My DH or DSH (we'll go for "damned sweet" today) is going with me. I'm praying it's nothing, but also praying that if it is something I have the strength to deal with it. He said it's very small.
Everyone else I haven't mentioned, have a wonderful Friday!
MaryJane
P.S. Sharon, that was a great story about the pork! Hope your husband appreciates you!

Morning allRained last night, cloudy today. Only 20 % chance of rain so it will be a hair day after all. If it's rain, then it's a NO HAIR day for me. Funny thing---the hair on the top of my head seems to be thinner than the rest. Maybe that is the bangs part that Wendy was talking about-sure hope it gets better. Will be hard to style but oh well.....a much better problem than having cancer.
Mary Jane I'm sure you know we are all going to be with you today for your tests at Komen. All the prayers and good vibes possible will too.
Looking so forward to going home today though we will be a little late. At check-out which is 11 a.m. here I load all my things into the cab which waits for me at my rads in Carbondale. Then I go to the V.A.. I will be waiting there ( somewhere ) for my hubby, bil and sil to arrive. Bil has an appt at 2:30 this afternoon. Will make a long day for me but no reason for anyone to come get me since some of my family will be here.
Going to be thinking of all you at Starved Rock tomorrow. Of course, the second best thing to being there is seeing pictures so we WILL ALL be waiting in great anticipation.
Have enjoyed ( mainly ) being here at the Airport Inn. Across the road is a little farm and there are horses. I've never seen horses play together like these. They chase each other and if one is standing still the other runs up and comes to a screeching halt and tosses its head at the other. Very cute and very entertaining.
Well time to let someone else have this. Have to finish packing.
Ill talk to you later today.
Jackie

Good Morning:
Mary Jane, you share the same sort of praying philosophy as my own. It is what it is or, hopefully, it isn't anything at all. Prayer will not change what it is. God does not tease us. I too pray that I will have the strength to deal with what I need to deal with. I am saying prayers for you that reflect that belief.
Well, I am packing up for my ottowa trip. It will take us all day to get there as we will stop here and there along the way. I will see you at the lodge around eleven. Again, thanks Kater for all your help on this.
Susan

Add my good thoughts to everyone else's. I'm so glad they could schedule your tests so soon. Sending the best positive vibes for good results. We'll all be with you today.

OFF TOPIC naturapathy, holistic stuff = dogs
I took 14 year old white samoyed to a chiropractor. Interesting, I'm really learning a lot about holistic stuff? Or learning how much I don't know rather....
I have to try to take her swimming once a week up to 5 minutes and daily walks. eeek!!
Monday I take the 36 pounder to same chiro..she is 11 to 14 years old..
Kater
I'm hoping samoyeds past owners one mile from me will let her swim in their pool if she will swim! Otherwise there is a place in Huntley!! with hydotherapy for dogs!!

Morning! Oops...make that Afternoon! I had an early blood draw, then off to PT at 8:30. Ya know...this 2 hour massage stuff isn't half bad! That slave driver made me ride the recumbent bike for a whole 8 minutes first tho....isn't she mean? I guess one of the problems with me is that I have an extremely tight ligament which until it lets go, they really can't proceed with too much else. Laura....just by being here for 3 days I have already figured out that I know NOTHING about physical therapy. My advice to you...and I know you don't want to go...but try it for 2 weeks (okay...how about one week?) and while you are there, listen in to the other therapists as they work. Ha! And I thought I knew stuff! That would be a big "NO".
MaryJane...I am sending a {{{{{{mind-meld}}}}} to you....big, fat nothing...it's a big fat nothing. We'll be here for support either way, but you don't need us cuz "it's a big fat nothing". Hugs!
Jackie....Yay!!!!! you get to go home!!!!! And that's why I love Harlan Coben...there is always that twist or one or five that you NEVER saw coming. I've just finished one from the library and I think I have read them all. Now...there's a thought for you....the Library!!!!!
Kater...hopefully you will be good to go for tomorrow! Just don't breathe on anyone LOL!!!
Pat...did you start the painting? It's so humid it will take DAYS to dry!
Rita...did you go red??? I think you would be stunning as a red-head!!! But...you are already pretty stunning as a blonde, so why mess with perfection!
OK, now off to do something around here. Hmmmmmm....nap???? Well, I guess not since I spent the morning doing pretty much nothing. Everyone....have a wonderful time tomorrow...sure wish I could go but I don't think that would be such a great idea for me. Take lots of pictures and please be careful on the roads. Lots of crazies out there. Oops....I guess that means us. So..be careful of us!!!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the humor - I'm afraid Wendy will remain Queen. I'm one thing on paper when I have time to sit and think about it a while, I'm not as quick witted in person. I always walk away saying "dang wish I thought of that 10 minutes ago!"
MaryJane
OMG, any time I've made reference to Larry, Darrell & Darrell others look at me like I'm totally nuts as I'm laughing by myself. I'm glad you know who they are! Ha ha ha
It was.... BOB NEWHART

MaryJane - Prayers to you on the node & scans! GOOD LUCK & here's to a FAST GOOD ANSWER!
Kater - pea size white spots? ON your throat or IN your throat? That sounds quite scary. Here's hoping it's something simple & easy to get rid of!

Well, I will not be able to make the Starved Rock Get-together. I have shingles. The doctor told me that I am contagious. So, since I know one of you is going through chemo, I thought it better to stay home. I was supposed to walk at the Relay for LIfe tonite but can't do that either. I am afraid someone might get something...I am just thankful that it what is is. I thought for sure I had
inflammatory breast cancer. Hope you all have fun...

Hi everyone,
I'm really sorry that I will not be able to go to Starved Rock either
My boys team advanced to the semifinals which is Saturday. This is a national event for them and they have never made it this far. I really want to be there to watch them. I am very sad though that I have to cancel with you guys. I will plan on Laura's party to see everyone in Aug.
Ginny and Kater - hope you are both feeling better soon. Take care of yourselves.
To everyone else, I really have trouble keeping up with the posts but I think of all of you going through tx now, and hope it all goes smoothly for you. Hugs.0 -
Just checking in....wanted to see if there was anything from Mary Jane....
Ginny....well, at least it's just shingles. WHAT??? "JUST" shingles????? OH you poor thing! Those are so nasty...hopefully you caught them very early and will have no lasting effects. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
Mich...sorry you can't make the trip BUT...congrats to your boys! That's fantastic and of course you want to go and see them play! Good luck!
Carol...no worries about me being the Queen of Funny! I don't think I am funny at all...it's just that the strangest things happen to me and my DH. From vampire neighbors to killer swans attacking to spraining toes due to having my hair highlighted like Lisa Rinna...now's there's a story for you!!!!
Guess I'll take up all the laundry I did today...stairs are not my friend these days so I tend to wait as long as I can! But...I do think the shot and my first 3 PT's are helping. Next shot is 7/10...oooooh!!!!! Another shot in my back!!!!!! Lucky, lucky Wendy! Have a great evening everyone!

Hey Everyone!
My bathroom tile is finished! I can't wait to begin to put my house back together, but I guess I should wait for toilets, sinks, and faucets, huh? It is really moving along though.
I'll be thinking of you all at Starved Rock tomorrow, and wishing I was there. Not meant to be a downer, but please remember your mosquito repellent! Even something like a mosquito bite on our affcted arms could trigger LE. I hate it, so I usually use it only on my affected arm. Mosquitos seem to enjoy feasting on me.
Kater....Hope your white spots are not serious. Could it be thrush? Or infected tonsils? What??
Ginny...I'm so sorry about the shingles, but you're right about the alternative. I was disappointed to hear from my onc that she does not want me to get the new shingles vaccine, but so be it.
Carol...I remember the Bob Newhart Show, and the Darrell Darrell brothers. Welcome to the Il thread, and thanks for the laughs. Can't have too many of those.
Julie...I'm thinking of you! Have a good Father's Day.
Leesa...Where are you? Hoping you are doing well with your tx.
Laura...My hubby went to PT after his surgery, and I think it was a little bit of a learning experience to be the patient. He usually prescribes PT. He did faithfully do his workout at home on the days that he didn't go there. Most of it was helpful, at least he thought so. I'm sure you'll do great, and I hope you are back to yourself soon.
Wendy..Hope you are feeling better. Is PT helping? I sure hope so.
Looking forward to some pictures at Starved Rock, you all.

Hi everyone!
I've been on the chat many times, but haven't posted on here.
I live in Watseka.
I did 4 tx of CT and 32 rads. I finished in May. Started Tamox. about 10 days ago.
Wanted to say hi to all of you.
0 -
Hi Rob - Welcome! Best wishes and congrats...you are a rad grad! Tamoxifen isn't so bad...stick with it!
Mich - Congrats to your boys! Family is first...enjoy the tournament! Look forward to seeing you sometime soon.
Wendy - I'll take your advice...I'll stick with it a couple of more times, but after that...ADIOS! LOL I am starting back at the healthy club...the only thing I can't do there is tread mill and stair stepper...everything else...well heck...I can't wait! Don't carry laundry baskets up stairs...are you crazy! Let dh do that part!
smerf - Almost there...almost time for you to put things away, wipe off that last layer of dry wall film...enjoy!

hi all:
This is kinda deja vu. I was all set to go to Maggianos (sp) last Friday and it was canceled at the last minute. Now I am in Ottowa in a Holiday Inn with internet and ready to for lunch tomorrow and I read 3 people are unable to come! No matter. My dh and I are having so much fun. We already went to Starved Rock and did some scouting about. Becky, we went to a great Italian restaurant. I know you live in Ottowa. We went to Peru and went to a antique place. I collect silhouettes and I found a set that I love.
Kater, I personally am not worried if you are contagious. Just take a leap of faith and come. I work with kids and so I am used to germs. Now shingles...I am not open to that. Pat, my husband's doctor suggested to him that he get the vaccine for shingles (Dr. Stone in Glenview) and passed on word to him that I should ask for the same. Why is your doctor against it? We researched it and insurance would cover it (about $200) if our doctors ordered it and if we received it in his/her office. So now I am confused as to why your doctor would not want you to have it. Let us know.
So ladies, I am hoping I see some of you. Becky, my offer stands. We can pick you up if you need a ride. You live in a beautiful town. Call 312-310-6258 if you could use a ride to the Lodge. IT IS SO PRETTY.

Wendy, put your clean things in a suit case with wheels to take up stairs if DH can't ger around to it. More than one way to skin a cat ( did I really say that, hope all my cats forgive me ) or get a job done.
Mich...how fantastic of your boys and you should be a part of this accomplishment. How many times will this opportunity come. I'm thrilled for you.
Rob, sounds like you have most of your tx behind you. Hope this is the case. Keep up the good work. We are a fun bunch here but serious when it's needed. Hope you keep coming back.
Ginny, those shingles can be quite painful....hope you get good control very fast. Aren't they only contagious if touched.....hubby had them so long ago, I can't remember....
It's a little after 10 p.m. but I am so thrilled to be on my own computer. Sure wish I could have it with me,but not possible. We came through a terrific rainstorm on the way home. Probably should have pulled over, but didn't. A honkin' big 18-wheeler went past us---very fast it appeared and it also seemed like it took a very long time for the windshield to get clear after that. I just decided to look out the side window and look for trees or deer or anything.
Had to rush home and pick up Baby Boss from the groomer. Denny took him early this morning. We were late, but Tami just leaves her door open....we leave our money and take Boss so it works. Then had to run to Salem and fill my gas tank. Than to Wally's World for supplies...so it is a late evening after a long day--but I'm not complaining. I'll probably sleep till 7 a.m. tomorrow. At least, I hope I do.
Well, I'm going to go now. Hope all is well for all of you...Jule, Julie, Leesa, Mary Jane,Carol, Hemson and all the rest. Hope your week-end is super no matter what.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say thank you for the hugs and support when I got reamed by my onc's nurse.
I was really bothered by it, but you all have really gotten me through the shock of being treated that way!
Love and prayers, Deb0 -
Hi Susan,
I don't take any vaccines without checking with my onc. Some of them are not recommended if you have undergone chemotherapy, and the internists and family practitioners are not always aware of that. I did some research on the shingles vaccine because I wanted it if possible, but indeed the research indicated there could be a problem. My internist wanted to give it to me, but I said not until I could check with onc who said no. At this time it is very new, and even the literature I read indicated it is not for most cancer patients who have had chemo. Maybe you can check with your medical onc and see what he thinks about it. I did get the pneumonia vaccine at my onc's office. I'm all for preventing anything I can, but some vaccines can carry a risk for us. I run everything past my onc because no other docs are so knowledgeable about the chemo and post chemo affects on our bodies. Hope this isn't too rambling, and makes sense.
Hope you have a wondeful day tomorrow!
Pat

Hi Ladies,
I hope you all are doing good. So many from this site have feared that I got washed out with the flood LOL..I thought I'd let you all know that I am fine. I live in Quincy which is on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi. Only our riverfront properties got hit. However it's doing a job on all the smaller towns around us and we pray each day that the levee across the river in West Quincy, MO doesn't break. Quincy has a sandbagging operation here to help with local levees and we have had so many wonderful people both from this area and other regions come to help bag sand.
Otherwise I am doing fine. We have some green tomatoes on the vines and I can't wait til they are red LOL. If the cucumbers grow too I'll be happy. We have been camping alot this year and it's so relaxing.
Talk to you all later..Hugs, Mazy

Hi ladies,
Thank you so much for all the good thoughts while I had my CT and ultrasound yesterday. The radiologist could find nothing abnormal, so he called in another doctor and he couldn't find anything either. I am so thankful. Then went for the CT and won't have the results of that until Tuesday. But I'm sure it will be o.k. too. I thought I was handling this well until I got back on the table for the ultrasound and I just started crying. The tech was absolutely wonderful. She just handed me kleenex and was very understanding. Thank you again for your good wishes.
Ginny, so thankful yours was shingles and not something related to bc. Not that shingles is a cake walk, but better than the alternative. Sorry you can't make the Starved Rock trip. Sounds like your family was looking forward to it too.
Pat, I asked my family doctor about the shingles vaccine and he discouraged it also. I don't think it had anything to do with bc, he just said it helped only 60% (that might not be the right %) of the time so didn't feel it was worth it.
Michele, congrats to your boys for making the semifinals. What sport are they in? Hope they do well! Quite an accomplishment to even get there!
Wendy and Laura, stick with your PT. I went for my back several years ago and have had no trouble since. They started with that warm thing that feels like crawly fingers (this is not a medical term!), then did deep heat massage, then taught me exercises and I still do some of them today. Can't believe how well it worked. Good luck! Kater, what did the doctor tell you yesterday?
Carol, you are right, it was Newhart! Thank you for remembering that!
Welcome, Rob. Hope the tamoxifin is going well. JulieR, Jule and Leesa, hope you are doing well. Blackjack, hope you are enjoying your son. Pat, how is the painting going? Glad you have tile now. You are making progress! Susan, how is the writing class going? JanClare, have you started your remodeling yet? Jackie, enjoy being home and don't wear yourself out working!
Well, we have about 50 people coming here tonight for a party so I'd better get busy. Have to pull some more weeds and make ham salad and a bunch of other stuff. Our daughters are coming over to help too (except the one in Thailand!).
Have a great time at Starved Rock!

Mazy,
Just read your post after I posted. I go to Quincy every week to see my Mom. We have gone through the parks down by the river, watching the waters rise. It is really something. I'm sure you remember '93 when the West Quincy levee broke (with help.) Hopefully it will hold this time.
If you want to get together some time, just let me know. I spend a whole day there weekly, so maybe we could meet for coffee. Don't know your working schedule. I usually go on Monday or Tuesday.

Morning!
MaryJane...your news sounds great! I told you it was a big fat nothing! And I don't blame you for crying during the US...I would have been too. Like we all say..."It's the new normal". And that "crawly thing"? I think you mean the TENS machine? I don't get that until last...but I get a hand down my shorts to try and massage out my ligament/muscle group! At least all the therapists are women! It's kinda funny actually to look around this big room and see hands up shirt or down pants...I actually started giggling yesterday...it's just so strange! And I see how that sounds but they do have private rooms and yesterday all the patients were women so that's why we were all together...we can all chat back and forth. I'm glad to know that it worked for you and even after only 3 sessions, I can see some difference. Did you also have the epidural injs? I had one already and my 2nd is scheduled for 7/10 as I got about 50% immediate relief from the nerve pain and now am about 75-80% nerve pain free.
Mazy...glad you checked in and that the flooding is not in your backyard. Can't believe the damage I see on TV...just horrible!
Rob...welcome! You are indeed a Rad Grad! Check in often...we're a FUN group. A bit crazy, but fun anyway!
Whoopschangedmyname...I sent you a PM. Seems Geneva is a long haul for you...but I thought you might want to see how far. Glad you are feeling a little better..might be time to meet up with that nurse and tell her what you think! And can I come and watch??? Remember...just cuz they have an RN or a DR in their name in no way makes them GOD, and they don't get to play that card with anyone! I'm an RN and I know that...why didn't she? Shame on her!
Jackie...just laughing...skin a cat??? Shame on YOU! Only kidding......
And I didn't mean I was carrying up HUGE baskets of laundry, but thank you all my Mommies! I just leave small, separated piles on the stairs.
Time to get showered up...and aren't you all so glad to hear I do that once in a while. Hope you guys have a fantastic time at Starved Rock!

There is proof that God exists...who pops up the next Kleenex?
- Unknown0 -
Morning,
Well now Mary Jane....do you hear my sigh of relief. Probably almost as big as yours was I dare say. If there is one thing I'm learning---does it ever get to be second nature---is try very, very hard not to take every thing and every change that comes as a reason to welcome gloom and doom. I can't believe one could ever feel comfort again, but I do hope to reach a state where I can wait to SEE what something really means. Guess that is why everyone stays here---Who else would know what is lurking behind some of the bravery.
Wendy--that was super funny about hands in pants and shirts. I have lost so much of my modesty--though there is plenty left. At rads I can put on a gown or just hold a pillow case up to me....and there are a couple of young looking male techs. I chose the pillow case as it is faster. No one is going to get overcome by the sight of me, that's for sure. This week coming up will be short as they are not open on the 4th. That means that my third of a week has now become 4 days so I guess you could say I have 4 weeks left.
In looking at the calendar, I think the first nurse that TOLD me when I would be done was closer to being right. Well, will give me more time to rest and get a couple of paychecks from work before I go to California.
I do miss going to work, but by the time I get back they will probably have the new carpet, desk, lamps and other things up front and as well all the new Realtor areas in back finished. New boss who I think will set up the office as it always should have been. I may peek in this afternoon---I have my new key ( someone broke a key off in the old lock and the whole thing just fell apart ) and can at least see how the new clean carpet looks up front. Nice to have the older than caves carpet out of there.
Hope you all have an amazing time at Starved Rock.
See ya'll later.
Jackie

Hi Girls,
I'm baack from my travels and had a wonderful time. I am so jet lagged that I don't think I could have made the Starve Rock trip today. Our flight was delayed of course!..the turbulence was the worst ever..and I fly alot but got sick on this flight and so did everyone else on this flight. We hit bad storms coming into Chicago. I hope everyone going today has a great time and do take lots of pics to post...Kater...thanks again for all your help in making the reservations for everyone.
My trip was wonderful and it was good to see my son. We spent most of our time in Newport and we ate at the restaurant were he works at. He made us the most fantastic dinner...I had to roll my self out of the restaurant. The owner came up to us and told us he loves our son and wants him to stay there. I don't know if I handle him living out there forever...it will break my heart. But I will cross that bridge next year. In all I had a great time.
Looks like I missed alot while I was gone..so welcome to all the new people. I have to go back and reread all your names...so welcome to the Illinois thread. We are a great bunch to chat with...funny..serious...supportive. That who we are.
I have to run now..will catch up later with everyone...Have fun at Starve Rock.
Remember be healthy..be happy..
