Janclare, Thanks for posting the picture and the names. All of you look wonderful.

Juliechicago...do you actually live in Chicago or in the burbs? I am on the northwest side in Chicago.

Laura, what is your goat? I can't keep up with the posts, but can't believe that you have an actual goat!

Have a great week everyone...I will probably check back next week. Chemo 5 on Wednesday.

Finally, more photos!  Sorry, I'm in the middle of garage and kitchen planning, a major bathroom redo, and my life is exciting crazy stressful right now.  It's amazing, even though everything is changed, LIFE really does go on after cancer.  Two years ago, who would have thought I would be here, "stressing" (not really, but you know what I mean) about kitchen islands and new windows!  Have to go meet with a kitchen designer today-

    Leeza and Laura's niece, Shelby-

Laura sharing her BEAUTIFUL "Rocktober Girls" DVD with us.  There was not a dry eye left in the room!

Morning everyoneSmileHope you are all having a great one.  As has been the case the past few days we are nice and cool.  Come late afternoon and evening I have been making sure I have slacks on---so unsual for this time of year.  Still I wonder what it will be like when Balloon Fest comes on the 15th.  Typically we have had plenty of heat and sweltering humidity.  Would be nice for a change to have it cool.

Sure can tell Fall is on the way....the amt. of nuts and shells on the ground out here is enough to get out the blower for already.  The big fifty foot dog pen out back is full too.

Hopefully I will get my stride back today with my work here at home.  I still have gross amts. and will for some time to come---before and after my trip to California.  Looks like that will be starting on the 17th. of September with a family reunion on the 20th. is all goes as planned right now.  I am so looking forward to this.

    I'll be checking in later,

    Jackie

p.s. Laura when you tell Jule about your goat ---give the yr.  I can't remember.

    Hi girls!

It's a beautiful morning here.  I'm feeling myself again after my final AC treatment.  Now I have a couple weeks vacation before the next round.  Yesterday I took my niece (she'll be 9 tomorrow), birthday shopping.  I wasn't feeling real well in the morning.  But...I thought I'm not going to let this ruin our plans.  We shopped till we dropped (almost literally).

I love the pictures from Laura's house.  It is great to put more faces with names.  I wish I could have been there.  Unfortunately I also didn't make my 20th class reunion.  I ended up getting a migraine headache.

We have a big family birthday bash this weekend.  We have six of us celebrating our birthdays together on Friday night.  I guess having bc makes me more excited about birthdays again.

My Mom went Friday to her annual check-up with the onco.  It's amazing how much more hypersensitive I am to her appointments now.  I was really worried this time.  While she was gone I got a call from her primary care physician.  He wanted to schedule an appointment with her immediately.  That really freaked me out.  She called soon after to say that her blood pressure was 200 over something and her onco freaked out and called her primary.  I guess he was really unhappy.  The onco told him that she didn't beat bc to die of a heart attack due to his relaxed approach.  Anyway, she is on high blood pressure meds now and doing fine.

I better run and get something done around the house.  Hope everyone is doing well.

    Wendy TY

It is a wonderful feeling to start up the other side of your chemo ( whatever kind your taking )  treatment.  Glad that your respite started and that you will move on to something else which hopefully will be a mite more gentle.

Happy Birthday a little early as I will more than likely forget when it's time.  At my and hubbys' age we don't become too excited anymore---don't mean we are not glad to have birthdays since the alternative is pretty un-desirable, but we have such a big group of people and family here that something is always---b-days, family get togethers, friend get togethers, and sometimes friends and family get togethers.....so we try not to stand on any one thing as we feel we are always celebrating something.

Right now we are in a round of being taken out to celebrate being done with my treatments.

Quite scary about your Mom.  Glad all is well.  Possibly her blood pressure was not up much when she last went to her primary care Dr.  I'm thinking----when was the last time two men were fighting over me----what a lucky lady your Mom is and more so now that her medical issues are under control.

Sabrina....great to hear from you too.  Just don't know about that Dr. of yours but like Laura said....we get excited because there is only one of us  --- but the Dr.'s see so many and know when and what to get excited about so here's hoping that it turns out just fine like Laura's.

I'm back to my housework now.

    Talk at ya'll later.

    Hello dear ladies:

I just loved the whole goat thing. Laura, I fully expected you to post a picture of yourself with a downloaded picture of a goat.

Well, toodalooo is back in the classroom again come Monday! As Laura would say, "CRIPES". It is meetings for the first few days and then the little buggers are coming. (For the moms on the thread, please understand this is "teacher-talk" and I actually love children and teaching is more than a job for me.....it remains my passion).

I am in my Writer's Conference this week at Northwestern and feeling ever so insecure. I have my manuscript edited and I am sure some arrogant, egotistical, creative writing TA will feel obligated to ridicule everything about it. One of the presenters is a breast cancer survivor and she wrote a memoir about her experience. Sad as it sounds, that gives me comfort.

JulieTY, I am sorry you missed your reunion. I know that you were thinking about that. I am happy you went shopping with your niece.

JanClare, you are doing so much creative stuff this summer with your kitchen. I am so happy that BC is somewhat behind you as you forge on with fun and creative adventures. After this summer with you ladies, I am sad to admit I have no new bathrooms and my kitchen is the same.

Leesa, I love the head scarf! How elegant and dramatic you look . Michele, you look lovely as does Pat. I really need to meet you, Michelle!

    Love to all,

    Susan

Looks like you girls had a good time at Laura's.  I was really wanting to come but since I was the only one from my area that was going, I decided not to.  I didn't want to drive up there by myself. Plus we just got back on Friday from our 2 week vacation.

We had a great time on our vacation.  I ended up in the ER on my birthday.  I had a bulging vein on my right let that was sore and hurt.  I have had a blood clot before and wanted to make sure it was nothing.  We spent 5 hours waiting to get a room and then we only spent an hour in the room.  They were really nice.  They give me a birthday card and a few goodies..It made it much nicer to be there.  Besides that we had a great time.  We went to Nashville, Atlanta and stayed 9 days in Lexington SC.  My husbands oldest brother lives there and we are thinking of moving down there to get away from the icky winters we have.  If we do it won't be till next summer.

I went to the plastic surgeon in Peoria yesterday.  I really liked him.  I am going to have a tram flap done.  It's the best option for me.  I don't have enough skin on my back to do a decent size breast.  Plus with the tram I get a tummy tuck....I see him again in 6 weeks to make sure that the phelbits I have in my leg is gone.  He will have a radiologist put in some type filter in my upper thigh area to stop blood clots(if I get any) from going into the lungs.  It will be 3-4 hour operation and 3-5 days in the hosptial.  go home with 4 drains.  2 will be in for 7 days and the other 2 will be in for 14 days.  Lovely..just what I am looking forward to...

Looking forward to school starting.  I won't have the kids calling me all the time at work and whining and complaining.

Well that's it for me for now...

    Hi Girls,

I hope everyone is having a great evening. Yep..school is right around the corner for me. I went to set up my office today.. and wouldn't you know it.. it was not finished. I nearly died when I saw it. The cabinets are too small for all my supplies..the bed is behind the door..and my desk and computer is another issue all by its self. Oh.. I hate remodels!!!!!!!!! I was told that they are still in the remodeling phase. Hey right...school starts next week and I am not ready. I am never going to remodel again....I am so tired of drywall dust....I need a vacation now lol....

Susan..I too would love to meet you some day and exchange school stories lol

Laura..you go girl with that goat of yours. I hope you win today..

Janclare..I hope your remodeling goes well for you..just take one day at a time..and push those guys along.

Jackie..I hope you have a great vacation with your daughter..you certainly deserve it. time to celebrate the end yeah!!!!!!

Karin..glad to hear that your boss is doing better. She is sure lucky to have you fill in for her..I hope you get a great big bonus for this. lol

Ginny..sorry to hear that you spent your b-day in the hospital. Blood clots are nothing to fool around with..so glad to see that they are taking extra precautions with your OR.

Wendyty..glad to see that your txs are done for now and you are feeling better..Rest and enjoy your mini vacation.

To all the girls in tx..sending you healing hugs your way.

    Evening everyone....

Jan...thanks so much for the pictures, they are so nice!  Sure wish I could have made it, tho.

Laura...I too am picturing you racing, on a goat.  Very funny picture in my head!  You go 130mph in 11 seconds?  Yea God Girl!  You be careful!  And your niece...she is sooo cute.  Just like her Auntie Laura.

Ginny...sorry about your BD trip to the ER.  That should be against some law, somewhere!  Your decision re: your recon sounds just right for you.  I'm glad that you took your time and made the right decision for you, at the right time.

Susan....I am so sorry, but I do have to laugh.  Remember...I have a husband who is a principal, dreading when YOU come back....as it is so nice and quiet at school these past days.  But then...Moms...don't think my DH doesn't like children, but he's not exactly looking forward to the parents either.  He actually LIKES the kids, tho!  But I think he is quite normal in his thinking...as far as principals go!

Leesa....you looked fabulous in your scarf. I could never have done that look...I am such a wimp, just had to try and look as normal as possible.  Well, as normal as you can look with a dead rat on your head!  Any news on the job/insurance front?

Blackjack...looking fab as always!  Loved your pretty dress!

Smerf...always stylish!  How are the baths coming?  They are done by now, correct?  Hopefully when you get caught up you can post more often....I  miss your opinions as they are always spot-on.

Jackie....how's work going?  Did you get your sleeve/gauntlet for flying yet?  I got the 15-20 compression only as I tried on the 20-30 and it was waaaaay too tight feeling for me.  My fitter said for prevention in absence of lymphedema the lighter compression was just fine.  It gave great support and didn't leave any marks when I took it off.  Not very comfy and I got some looks but who cares!  People were actually very helpful...I think it looked like I had a really bad sprain or something.

WendyTY....glad the anti-hypertensives are working for your Mom.  Must have been a bit scary tho.  Sorry you couldn't make the reunion, but you will be there for the 30th, and the 40th and the 50th!!!!!!!  My grandniece turned 9 last month (yes, GRAND  niece - I am old...told ya!)...they are so all about clothes and music and LIPGLOSS!!!!!  And of course...Hannah Montana/high school musical.  (Don't tell anyone, but I actually like some of the songs from the latter).

Lisamed....you travel far for your treatments!  But then.....your work is DT,correct?  So probably a very convenient choice for you, as well as a wonderful hospital. I went there to see Dr. Kaklamani for my 2nd opinion for chemo....she was wonderful.

Well....I am watching an old Cary Grant movie, "Holiday" and I think I will crawl in bed and get comfy to watch the rest.  I hope you all have a great peaceful night.  Well...all except Laura...I hope she is whipping a** at GLD!

PS:  Sabrina!  Glad you checked in....wondered how you were!  Please let us know re: those spots of yours. Of course, you know that they are big, fat nothings, right??????  RIGHT!!!!

Just a quick note to Jackie.  I did receive your e-mails on my yahoo and I did respond to them.  I did not send a pm on this forum.  Perhaps there is  some problem with your e-mail. Do know that my messages are not coming back to me, so I have no idea where they are.  Just be assured that I did respond.

    Morning Everyone!

Laura...how did you do?  Do you ever race a bit closer in?  I would love to go and see you hit the pedal!  How is that little bet you have going with DH re: your times?  Whup his butt lately???

Karin....I hear that your boss is on the mend.  I second the idea that you get a HUGE bonus for this!  Maybe we could send her copies of this forum??????  Hope you have had lots of time tho to enjoy the summer.  For myself, altho I love the fall and all its beautiful colors I am dreading the cold, gray days of winter.  Been looking for a part-time job lately but so far, nothing that either interests me, or pays me more than minimun wage (could get hired in a second at my little gym).  Still waiting with my glue gun for Laura to call me.....(hint-hint).

Rita...I miss your long, chatty posts but I know it's cuz you are busy, busy, busy with fun things to do.  Has your golf game been improving steadily?  Still would love to see pics of your brand new bathroom.

Karin....I think you will enjoy this.  DH and I were out in front of the house, taking out our cans for garbage day....and my vampire neighbors were also out...came right up to us with his hand out...and said "Hi....have a nice evening" and shook both our hands and then immediately went back inside the garage and put down the door.  You should have seen our faces...they have lived here for about what?  5months?  First time for this.  I'm sorry to say I THINK I took a step back so Tom would get hit first!  Well c'mon...they are a bit strange.

Time to get back to my little spa-room.  I'm thinking maybe I will get one of those new shower rods that curve out...give me a bit more room.  DH would love to have one in his but the master is all tile and I would have to drill into that and that is something I have never done.  Anyone know how to do that?  I think you need a ceramic bit on the drill, correct?

Have a great day everyone...PT again this am at 9:30, then I am only scheduled once for next week and once the week after and then I am be cut free...for now.  She may want to see me in a month to see what's what.  Rain coming later, but I think I will take the Z out for a cruise this am....so

    Tops down, fists up!!!!

cceptance is not a state of passivity or inaction. I am not saying you can't change the world, right wrongs, or replace evil with good. Acceptance is, in fact, the first step to successful action. If you don't fully accept a situation precisely the way it is, you will have difficulty changing it. Moreover, if you don't fully accept the situation, you will never really know if the situation should be changed. [info][add][mail]Peter McWilliams, Life 101

LOL - The Goat is truly becoming a constant source of entertainment!

Susan - I checked the stands a couple of times looking for you...wasn't sure if you'd make it or not.

IT WAS AWESOME...my times weren't a fast as I would have liked...but not too bad...the new engine is amazing...my fastest time was 11.8 seconds Cry. But...I entered the Ladies Trophy race and had lots of fun...although I didn't win, I want to try again next Tuesday. If any of you want to head up there. The MC actually announced my name several times. There were two junior dragsters racing their mini dragsters...two little girls...6 and 8...they actually raced! It was so adorable...next week I'll have to take a photo of them and post it...it's amazing...they kept waving to me when I raced! LOL One of dh's GTO buddies was there with his wife, so we hung out with them. She and I would be a good match for a race against each other...but I was too chicken to suggest it. It's funny...dh is on a discussion board like this, but it's for GTO, Mustang Cobra, F Body cars...he's on his board as much as I am here.! lol

    Hi gals!

Wow!  You've been a busy bunch since I last checked in!  The pics from the gathering at Laura's were wonderful!  What a super-looking group of gals!  Wish I could have made the trip up!  It looks like you all had a good time!

Julie R and Jule...my hat is off to you with your young children.  I've had my little grandsons (ages 2 and 4) for 4 days and I'm exhausted.  They were still going strong when they pulled out for Kentucky this morning and I crawled back into the house for a leisurely shower..........LOL  We had so much fun.  We went to the State Fair in Springfield, the zoo, the swimming pool at the club, and a nearby small-town carnival.  I feel so lucky to have been able to share the days with them but I must admit I am one tired grandma today!  LOL

Laura...so glad that GOAT is back and in racing condition!

Julie R.....a diamond ring and an engagement proposal!  Wow!  Wonderful!  I'm so happy for you.  I told you months ago that he was a "keeper!"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WENDY THE YOUNGER!!!!!    HOW RIGHT YOU ARE!   EVERY BIRTHDAY IS SO SPECIAL.....just as you are special!

Little C.  I think the CA 15-3 test is the tumor marker test.  Now that my little guys are gone, I'm checking into this more and I will share the info that I find.

Lisamed...It looks like your rad journey is about to start.  I wish you good luck with it.  I found rads to be much easier than chemo.  Like Wendy, I used the Biafine cream and had no problems.  Think positive.  It's just a pain to have to go everyday for them!  Sending good vibes your way for an easy rad trip!

Oh Jackie...your California trip is going to be so special.  I'm so glad that you're going to be able to connect with your oldest granddaughter.  What a wonderful surprise!

Jule...hope your fifth chemo went well.  Just keep crossing them off.

JanClare....I haven't cracked open my bottle of bc wine yet.  I just haven't had the right occasion to do so!  I guess that I'm saving it for something special!  LOL  Thanks for posting the pics!  We all appreciate them so much!

JulieChicago.....how about an update on that hair.  It looks pretty good to me in the picture!  :-)

Wendy...so glad that you're back!  Hey...racing that car might be just the thing to keep you from being bored!   Maybe it's time that you waver from your law-abiding citizen status!  LOL  I drove a stock car once ...yep, just once...in my younger days in a Powder-Puff derby.  Those other ladies were absolutely crazy.  I thought they were trying to kill me.  After that I just helped in the pits and became a very enthusiastic fan!  LOL

Well, hi to everyone that I didn't personally address.  I'm off to regroup for the day.  It is way too quiet in this house!  :-)

    I'll be back later.

Laura, funny photo! My dh laughed too!

Rita, I am jealous that you went to the State Fair. I am from Springfield, and I love to go. I hope you had fun and it wasn't too hot.

So, I have a question. I got my MRI report back and both breasts were looked at even though the onc asked for only a l breast MRI. The rad said that there seems to be a reduction in the r breast from the suspicion area that was noticed from the first MRI where the suggestion was made that this should be re-examined within 6 months. The note was made that since there was a reduction in size that this was probably DCIS. If this is the case, which I know cannot be resolved without a biopsy, does this mean that this is Stage 3? Any feedback would be helpful. Yes, I know about the biopsy...but would this be Stage 3?

    Hi Julie,

DCIS would not be stage 3. Is the area of possible DCIS in the same breast, or the opposite? I'm sorry, I can't recall from previous posts. You are correct that you can't know for certain without biopsy and maybe removal of the area of DCIS.

I agree that the state fair is lots of fun, and even better if the weather isn't too hot. Not too hot in Glenview tonight...66 and great for sleeping with open windows!

Smerf, thanks for responding, but please read below and see what you think. Yes, I know I am beginning to freak out!

My doc recommended lumpectomy again while in the last visit (wed) but after reading the mri in the room, she said that perhaps a bilateral would make more sense. Then I suggested skin restoration for plastic surgery and she said that she was concerned about leaving any breast tissue as there may be cancerous cells. It didn't make any sense to my dh or I as 15 minutes before she suggested that I should have a lumpectomy in both breasts which would have certainly left a lot more breast tissue. HELP!

My onc had suggested giving me a shot every 3 months to prevent my periods, and so we asked about just removing the ovaries as that would do the same thing. She said that I could do this, but that it would be permanent. Already have 2 kids...don't want any more as told a few times and certainly don't want any of the risks involved as am ER+/PR+.
I have been able to ignore any surgery thoughts up until now, but surgery is planned for the end of Sept/beginning of Oct and I am getting anxious. Any thoughts?

Morning!  Cool out here, 57 and I agree with Smerf...great for sleeping with the windows open, and a blanket!

Jule.....first off....Hugs!!  And I see that you couldn't sleep last night...your mind must be going in one hundred different directions.  First off, I agree with Smerf that this does not move you from Stage II to III if this was indeed DCIS.  Let me see if I have this correct....your IDC was in the L, and your "suspicious" area was in the R, which now has shrunk due to chemo.  Is that right?  If you have areas of bc in both breasts, and your age....a bil does make sense as an option.  If you are referring to a skin-sparing procedure so you do not have to be expanded....that I do not know much about at all...my thinking is that altho you retain the breast skin, MOST all the tissue is removed.  HOWEVER...I would also assume that because the skin is retained, you do retain more breast tissue cells than with a traditional mastectomy.  I read a lot about this almost 2 years ago and as we all know, medicine changes so quickly that any info I have could be seriously outdated.  That could be why your docs are concerned/leery of a skin-sparing procedure.  It seemed your doc changed her mind due to bil MRI results...but then, no one can be absolutely sure without a bx of that suspicious area in the R.  Are you thinking perhaps to have a core bx, or another type of bx...to be sure what that area is?  That might be the determining factor to you as to what you do.  Boy...I guess I am not helping you at all, am I?  I think what I am trying to say...if it were ME (not YOU, ME)...I would want to know for SURE what was lurking in my R breast.  If it was any type of BC...no lumpectomies for me.  But that is ME....NOT YOU!!!!!!!  I would just need to be sure first.  Some girls would just say..."Off with their heads!", but I am much too chicken for that!  As for your ovaries, if you are sure you don't want any more children, then your decision for a bil-ooph is much easier (well, easier....so to speak).  But since I am much older than you....and I was post-menopausal at my dx, can't help you with that.  Also...since you get to take some form of anti-hormonal, having a ooph also might make more sense.  Well...you asked for some thoughts...those are mine...and not very helpful, I'm sure.  So...I will shut up now.

Rita...have you caught up on your sleep yet?

WendyTY....chemobrain again!  Your card will be late....I should just send everybody's card late!  So here's a graphic for you...

Laura....I took the Z out last night and try to do a burn out.....will you help pay for the mailbox I ran over????? (OK...I am kidding...would I ever do anything like that?  No?  Gee...you guys don't know me very well!)

Jackie...how is it being back at work?  When do you leave for CA?  I am actually very excited for you that you will get to meet your 17yr old granddaughter - what a happy day that will be for you!

Well...today is sheet-day, and unfortunately for me....grass day.  After almost 2.5 years I have actually gone and purchased new faucets for the guest bath, and one set for the powder room.  We bought a spec house, and they only put in base builders stuff, so after 7.5 years, the gaskets dissolved and I couldn't replace them.  I have a dear friend who bought me a basin wrench way back then, and I have my teflon tape and silicone sealant.  Now...if only my back will cooperate so I can crawl under there!  I'm not worried about knowing how to do it as I am pretty handy, but I am soooo afraid I will get stuck under there, and I will be discovered, days later, still under my bathroom sink, with nothing to eat or drink except for some old boxes of Nice n Easy and crest white strips!

Have a wonderful day everyone!  Tops down, fists up ..... no mailboxes will be harmed in my driving escapades!
