OMG---good morning everyone.  What a difference a few entries can make, huh !!!!

WENDY:  Hope your cold does not get 'too' bad until it just sort of fades away.  Knock on wood but I think  ( I'm praying actually ) just like last year and in fact, since we moved back home 11 years ago, I won't get any colds.  Ahem----guess I save myself for the big stuff, stroke, cancer but God if your listening I didn't just say that.   I have indeed been fortunate that in  spite of some of the things I routinely do --- like going outside with jacket or coat un-buttoned, gloves if I remember them only, nothing on my head, I just don't seem to suffer for it.

SUSAN:  My first thought while starting to read your post was that you needed to go to the Dr.  Glad you will be checking in this a.m. with yours.  I hope all of you with the colds ( Connie's girls ) get done with it all so as not to interfere with any trips or your holidays.  Just get well ok.

CAROL:  You really do have a sweet fellar' ---  to do this when it's so un-godly cold outside -- I refer to the old saying " Your my horse, if you never win a race ".  Dh never thought of being a baldy for me.....but that was ok,  His hair is so thin he was almost there anyway.  Glad that your se's are better.  It is always a rough go for a bit but you can almost FEEL the minute you start gaining ground once again --- and very soon your right there with your place setting living it up.  Well, I was anyway.  Don't think you were on here when I was doing my chemo but when I got the above feeling I almost always CRAVED and I do mean CRAVED tuna fish on toast......and had it.  All the while I would be chuckling to myself  hmmmm, all that cell destroying chemo and now mercury poisoning.  You see, we really do take our laughs where we find them. So, like Wendy said.....even if your fellar' never wins a race --- he really is a keeper.

MICHELE:  One word  scary.  I'm so sorry all that happened --- the closet thing would have been more than enough with your rib as it is......but to have the tree light problem.  I am very glad you were there to "see" to it immediately.  I'm going to cross everything I have right now that you have from here forward an un-eventful rest of the holiday season---including the New Year.

Hope all the rest of you have a good day and don't have to be out in the cold much if at all.  I need to pick up my check and try to do a little bit of shopping ---- then back home to ??? to whatever.  I always feel so behind when I'm away from home most of a whole day like yesterday.  Truth is though.....the things that can't wait are already done.....guess I just NEED to worry a little.

    Talk to ya'll later.

    Good chilly morning everyone....

Wendy and Susan - I wish you both a speedy recovery. I'm so sorry you are sick :(   Being sick sucks.  There's no other word for it.

Blackjack - that is so scary!!  Like you said, so glad that you smelled it & figured it out right away.  Phew!   And that crashing down of the rack in the closet - well I'm glad you weren't IN the closet!!!!!!!

Carol - that is SO sweet about DH shaving his head Laughing   What a wonderful b-day surprise.

WendyTY - congrats on getting your first haircut.  And I'm so glad you had a good interview.  Best of luck, I hope you get the job!!!

Not much to report over here except more townhouse h*ll.  DH went into attic last night to get a box, and the roof is full of ice - inside!   Not a good thing.  Not even sure where to start on this issue...  could be several different causes.    Roofer is sending over a guy today to fix the leak in our hallway (today it's actually wet to the touch)....  I hope he speaks english.   And our humidifier is leaking, so I need to get the HVAC guy back out here again for the 7th or 8th time.

And that was Juliet's whine for the day, LOL!!!!     Last night after DH came down from attic & told me about the ice, I said "well, at least it ain't cancer!"   I was trying to make him laugh - it sorta didn't work.  Foot in mouth

I was just thinking - at least once or twice a week, one of us - or more - have something in our homes falling apart.  Wasssup with that ?!

    Luv u guys!  Juliet

    Hi All,

Julie, the at-least-it-is-not-cancer refrain is common at our house.  I tell people my husband gets the heart attacks (huge widow maker types), diabetes, but the cancer stuff is mine.  We have a discussion, some people find creepy about who should die first.  I tell my husband he should die first because if I died first he would be so miserable and is not as capable of independent living as I am.  He would drive his kids nuts just going through his mail and trying to do taxes.  You talk about funny stuff when you get older.

I am back home again my the surgery (TAHBSO and the lump), and am in and out of pain.Spent a night after the surgery on Friday in ICU.   Last night (Monday, my first night home)I was ready to tell my husband to rush me to an emergency room as I woke up feeling like I was in the last scene of Braveheart where his stomach is ripped out.  I took 2 vicodene, and am feeling better now.  It comes and goes.

On Friday I checked into the hospital for the hysterectomy.  It took about 2 hours.  I have stiches and staples from the top of my pubic bone to the bottom of my belly button.  I have not counted the staples yet.  What is worse is that there is "to be continued" purple marking that goes from my belly button nearly up to the boobs.  That is what would have been used for staging.  I suspect the Dr. thought it would be malignant based on my ultrasounds.  My Son said that when she reported back to them after an hour that it all looked benign, that she was positively giddy.  I started thinking how hard it is for these surgeons to tell people they have cancer, and especially more advanced forms.  I am not sure I could survive doing that for a living.  As much as we get irritated with the Drs. they have a very draining and demanding job..

Anyway, the mass was the size of a "large baked potato" (Drs words).  Don't know if I will ever see a baked potato the same way!  Finally pathology is not in, but she was pretty confident it had the magical words benign and was not related to breast cancer either.

Another funny incident was that my girl friend was trying to send me flowers.  She lives in Seattle.  When she called, they told her that they could not be sent as I was in ICU.  Nothing living was permitted in ICU.  That is an odd thought!

Anyway, thanks for your encouragements.  I am still taking happy pills and said I would be taking them for 4-6 weeks.  Rich Limbaugh and I have a lot in common.

((Sharon))   You have been through so much...  I'm glad you are home, and even gladder that it appears benign!! YESSSS!!!  Such great news - and yeah, anytime you are out to dinner & are asked if you'd like a baked potato with your meal, you will probably say "hmmmmm".

Keep on top of that pain & get lots of rest.  I wish you a very speedy recovery & no darn pain.

Blackjack-my wire closet thingy pulled out of the wall and everything fell too. My DH was NOT happy either. It forced me to clean out some of the clothes to lighten the load. What a pain!

Sharon-Hope you are feeling better each day. LOL with "Nothing living was permitted in ICU"-very funny!

    Juliet-Sorry about your leaks :(

Sharon...So glad that you're doing well and that things look good for you.  I think those doctors know when a tumor is benign or malignant just by the looks of it.  That should ease your mind and help you heal better.

Carol...what a super hubby to match haircuts with you!  LOL  I do think he's a "keeper!"

Snow...snow...snow.  It hit us pretty hard here today and more is expected tonight.  Everyone travel safely out there.

Juliet...I think that sickness or health problems help define who are true friends really are.  Although it's always tough to lose a friend, I don't really think that she was as good a friend as you thought.  I had a similar situation arise after I was diagnosed.  At first I excused it as a case where the person just didn't know how to respond to the situation but I soon realized that I became less important when I wasn't quite so available.  We are better off without these "so called friends."

Jackie, I always think about you when we head south to Tennessee because we go right through your area.  I wish we hadn't have been on such a tight schedule.  I would have given you a call and we could have met for a soda or coffee.  Maybe next time!  :-)

Wendy TY...can't wait to see your new haircut!

Susan... I hope you get something to knock that infection and relieve the earache.  All of you ladies who are battling the colds need to get rid of them before the holidays arrive!

Well, I need to check on the vegetable soup that is simmering on the stove.  Travel safely and watch where you walk.  We have lots of ice under this snow coating.

Rita - Thanks - you are so right about friends.   And I can smell that yummy soup from Schaumburg, haha.

Mich101 - it sounded so funny when you said "sorry about your leaks!"  Thanks for making me giggle today.

DH is out doing snow removal - he'll have a 16 hour day under his belt by the time he gets home.  All the better to help pay for repairs, LOL!!!    It's a light fluffy snow, so I was able to get out there & push the shovel a little bit (DH will prob yell at me, he's worried I'll bust a foob.)

Sounds like we are in more snow every couple of days....  my poor mom is housebound with this weather, her car gets buried under the snow & ice - she can't clean off her car cuz she needs a walker.  I wish she lived closer so I could help her more.   That's my guilt trip for the day....

I think I owe you all some $$$  for being my therapists - I've just been letting it all hang out here lately, haven't I ??   Embarassed  haha!!

Be safe everyone - like Rita said, it's really slippery out there!   "juliet"

The closet story just keeps on giving.. the second side decide to fall too..but only partly. I got most of the stuff off before it pulled out. I ran last noc the the store to buy a clothes rack and this nice guy..I think he felt really sorry for me.. gave me his card and told me he could design me a new closet. I was speechless.. do you believe that..lol I told my dh I was going to remake the closet over next week as my xmas gift to me. lol. Now I have a new project to work on.

Susan hope your Dr. was able to help you out this a.m.  Also hope your driving weather was ok.  We got walloped this afternoon.  All the morning it seemed fine and was so I decided to make my trek into town.  Got to work and it was rain/sleet/ and snow.  Decided I'd go ahead to the bank and take a side road home----was a little shop.  Well, while in the shop I heard these people come in and talk about "cars slipping and sliding all over the place" Wow !!!!  Good thing I have nerves of steele and am afraid of nothing I was thinking to myself.........and just when was the last time I lied to myself so blantantly.  I made it home ok, but it will be awhile before I want to do that again.....so do I have to go out again tomorrow....Most definitely.  It is the only time I have to find something for the Christmas party at work.   I think the weather is going to get better though...not worse.  Got my fingers crossed.

Juliet....I was going to sneak into Rita's kitchen and get some of that yummy soup fopr myself.  It sure did sound good.   Big catch is you have to drive there to do that.  So she might have some leftovers after all.

I will see you all tomorrow.

Hey Blackjack and Michele...your closet stories have encouraged me to shop for more clothes.  My wire "closet thingy" isn't even close to tearing away from the wall.  Hmm....must need more clothes on it to do the trick!  LOL  (Seriously, I do hear your frustration!)

    Hope you're feeling better, Susan.

Glad you made it home from town O.K. today Jackie.

The soup WAS a hit tonight.  I think most of the left-overs will be in Dave's lunch box tomorrow!  There's nothing better than hot soup on a miserable, winter day!

Hugs Sharon!  Hope you are a little less sore today!

Hey Blackjack...make your mug of hot chocolate into a "sleigh ride."  Add one shot of butterscotch schnapps to the hot chocolate and top with melted marshmallows.  YUM!  They're going to be my contribution to the golf group Christmas gathering on Friday night.  They're just about as good as your Cosmo..........

Well..I'm off to my recliner.  These days are all busy now.  It is so good to get back into the spirit of Christmas after the last two years.

    Travel safely tomorrow!

It's only 7:48am but Rita's "Sleigh Ride" sounds really tasty!!  I think I"ll have to make one tonight.

Blackjack - you've got me rethinking my closet now.  I have so much stuff stored on the tops of the wire racks in my closet....    I wonder how much they can really take.

The snow does look nice this morning, it's all clean & white.  Unfortunately they say we have an ice storm on the way tomorrow night.   We'll take snow any day.

Have a nice day everyone, I'm off to the doctor today (to discuss my mental state, LOL).

    Hugs, Juliet

A "yummy Sleigh Ride" in the perfect weather for it but darn --  I have to go out and go shopping.  Not an ideal but have to get it done.  Am thinking about going to Bandy's in Salem.  One of those half drug store, half a gillion other items that one could hopefully find so they did not have to go anywhere else and could come home....oh please, oh please.

Rita, I am glad you are "enjoying" this time of year again.  It is so difficult when we go through the first X-mas, New Year or any holiday for the first time missing some of our loved ones and then a rotten disease to boot.  Life does go on and become enjoyable and you finally do get to the point where you don't feel bad for the actual enjoyment knowing that is how it is supposed to be.  I'm so glad you are there.

Sharon, Blackjack, WendyTY, Susan & Dh, hope you are all getting better and Juliet --- hope all goes good at your appt.  Mich and everyone else.....hope your closets stay intact because who needs all that work right now.

Well, I'm off to start my day and hoping I get the shopping out of the way quickly and easily with just the right items appearing magically in front of me.  I'll be checking back in later.

Laura.....what are you up to ?????

Morning!  Well...about 5" for us and now tomorrow, the ice storm.  Since we are the last house on this old, old electrical grid we lose power easily.  So...I am dreading this storm.  That, and because DH has 2 parties to go to on the way home and a lot of driving.

Sharon....whew!  It's over!  And it sounds so good for you!!!!!  I agree...no living things in ICU..I remember when they told me that when my Mom had a stroke (actually I already knew that)..so I said...then could you move her right away?????  Thankfully one of the nurses knew me quite well and she just laughed.

Jackie...be careful on all your errands today.  Drivng in this weather we can do...it's all those other crazies out there who think 4WD = 50 mph!  Yeah...no.

Susan....glad you are seeing the doc.   OTC cold pills are fine, but an earache is a horse of a different color.  My cold...or whatever it was consisted of a lot of sleep, one sneezy day, one headachy day and today I have the runny nose from h**l.  So.,..I just stuffed some kleenex up both sides while I am home BUT I have an 11am hair appt so it should be interesting!

Michele...new closet organizers will be great!  My niece did that AND...she found out she could fit in twice the stuff!  Now...you need to get out there and SHOP!!!!!!

Rita...do you remember last year...I forget who it was...thought your sleigh rides were actually sleigh rides?  They do sound good...maybe when I make a run for limoncello I will get some butterscotch schnapps.  The soup sounded good too....we had creamy (but low fat) chicken vegetable with wild rice.  Yum.

Connie....how's the cold situation?  Hopefully you will ALL be well for your trip.

Juliet...ice IN your attic?  Strange.  Glad you are feeling better re: your friend.  It's so hard, isn't it...they expected us to go back to the way things were but in reality...they never can as we are forever changed.  Our whole life has shifted on its axis and our future has shifted with it.  No one can truly understand what we have faced unless they too have faced it.  We do come out the other side eventually...but who comes out is the new normal us.  Our friends know that, those we love know that...it's those people who do not care enough to reach inside us and find that "old" girl, to take the time and patience to get to know this "new girl"...those are the people that let go of us and that we need to let go of....it is painful I know....but somehow I think it works out.  You may indeed lose some old friends along the way...but your heart is open now, to new friends.  Look how many new people you have met, right here...that you know in your heart (and your head) will ALWAYS be there for you...ALWAYS.  And isn't that what true friendship is all about!

Time to get my butt in gear and then off to get rid of some grays...not of course that I have any!

    LOL

    Hi all -

Hope everyone survived the big snowstorm.  My boss was in town and we were going to Morton's for our Xmas management dinner.  It took us 2 hours to get from our office to the restaurant - this normally takes 15 minutes.  It worked out well as it probably would have taken me 5-6 hours to get home.  Instead, I had a nice dinner and headed home after all the traffic died down.  The roads were still bad though at 10pm so it was a stressful drive home.

Glad to hear all went well, Sharon - wow baked potato.

Blackjack - that stinks about your closet.  But now you can get a new pretty closet!

Glad to hear you are doing well Carol.  What a nice DH!

My daughter's cold is much better and no one else has caught it.  It's 80 in Florida today!

    Hi to everyone else!

    Hi:

Antibiotic is slowly kicking in.  I  do my classes and then go home.  You can do that when you are about to retire.  The kids are so razzed up and it is just so hard getting thorugh this last week gracefully.  I am actually hoping we get a snow day tomorrow.  Sorry, ladies!

Did you hear about the moisturizers with estrogen and their possible link to breast cancer (if one is estrogen positive). Look at ingredients and note that it is not listed as estrogen so you need to know your vocabulary here.  Here is an article.  Also the vaginal creams with estrogen should be avoided, but I bet everyone knew that already.

SAN ANTONIO  —  Breast cancer patients who apply moisturizers may be dosing themselves with estrogen without even knowing it, investigators reported at a breast cancer symposium in San Antonio.

Dr. Adrienne Olson, with Breastlink in Hawthorne, California, and colleagues analyzed 16 widely available moisturizers for estrogen-like compounds.

None of the creams analyzed noted any estrogen content in their list of ingredients. Even so, six samples contained estriol or estrone.

Olson, who is a seven-year breast cancer survivor, explained that estrogens applied to the skin are more efficiently absorbed into the body than estrogens taken orally.

She urged women with breast cancer that is driven by estrogen (that is, estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer) to avoid externally applied estrogen to minimize the risk of a recurrence.

Women without breast cancer are also at risk, she added. If they use estrogen-containing topical moisturizers, they may be dosing themselves daily with estrogen for extended periods, thereby boosting their risk of breast cancer.

    Stay safe and warm,

    Susan

I just looked for my post from this afternoon and realized though I wrote it I never actually submitted it *whacking myself in the head* Just wanted to say hi to everyone....and say thank you again for all of the incredible support before my surgery last week, hard to believe I am one week post op tomorrow and completed my 4th Radiation treatment already today.....I am having a few problems with the accelerated treatment both locally and systemically but the treatments will be finished before I have time to think about complaining. Hoping this storm veers off course a bit so that I dont need a sleigh and reindeer to get to Good Sam for my two sessions....Thinking of all of you, hoping everyone is doing well, and staying warm and at least semi snow free

    Hi Everyone,

Can't stay long as we are home late tonight and I do have to work tomorrow.  Then off until Jan. 2nd.  That part is nice if you don't mind going without the paychecks.  Susan, I wonder if hand lotion also has estrogens in them.  Goofy question I'm sure....but if the containers don't say...how are you to know if there is estrogen or not.  I'm sort of worried nowl  My skin looks terrible on my hands----very dry.  I may try some Eucerin and see if that helps----I think it is ok....at least I hope.

Jan --- good for you.  Can't tell you how many posts I forgot to SUBMIT,,,,,after spell-checking too.  Glad things are going relatively well for you and only minor annoyances to now.  Hope it continues that way.  I hope you will keep checking back from time to time.  I don't know that anyone here had a tx plan like yours ( going rather rapidly ) but seems we all pretty much have gone through quite a range of feelings and emotions once we were 'done' with tx.

I too hope the weather stays reasonable here.  It rained a good part of today and is still raining right now.  I'm praying not to wake up to the dreaded ice.  Dh has a long way to go to work though the interstates are usually fairly clean  ---  and me, I just don't like ice driving at all.  Still, I never thought I'd go out and give not too much thought to jumping in my car and going to work or whatever I have to do.  I did not learn to drive till after Denny and I were married for awhile ( with great reluctance on my part initially ) and I was 29.  The thing was we lived in California far from icy or snowy weather...so I did not learn to get out in this much up until the last five years or so.

Anyway, have a good day tomorrow.  Be safe..............

    Good Morning everyone,

Had a wonderful X-mas party last night.  They are always fun.  I drank too much coke and was wakeful when I should have been sleepy.  Got to see something ( I have seen it before ) that sort of takes you by surprise......lightning and thunder.  It started raining before I got off work and just continued on......but sometime after I went to bed it started with the lights and noise.  We will be in the 50's or so, but by afternoon the 30's are on the way and it will stay coolish/cold for who knows how long.  We are only getting a brief interlude of not so bad.

I'll be tired all day at work but it has been so quiet as of late that things should be just fine.  I may be standing up now and then---just to stay alert.  Good for you Blackjack......you can use a little off work / down time.  Hope the closet issues are coming together ok.  Also the rib.

Well I have to get my a.m. going here.  Dh had an early X-mas work schedule so I have to do all the livestock alone before I go to work ---  I'll be half worn out here before I even go.  I'm thinking about all of you and hoping your Friday goes well.  Stay safe.....and warm too.  Where are you  Wendy....hope you are not having more computer glitches.  I'll be back this evening.

    Hi gals!

We woke up very early this morning to no power.......ICE everywhere and rain that just seems to continue.  Every once in a while I hear a branch from a tree crash down in the woods.  The power is now back on so I really think I should get everything accomplished that takes water, electricity, or of course, the computer just in case we lose power today.

So how much snow hit the Chicago area last night?  It takes quite a bit of snow to cancel school in the city doesn't it?

Jan, you hang in there with those treatments.  You are right.  With the accelerated schedule they will be over quite soon and you'll be ready to work on reclaiming your life.

Susan, glad to hear that you're feeling better.  How I remember those days when you hoped beyond hope that you'd get that school cancellation call!  I always felt like a babysitter the last few days before a major holiday.  Even if you really tried to teach, it seemed to go in one ear and our the other.

Well, I'm off to get something accomplished around here.  I'll check in later and see how everyone is weathering this storm.

Travel safely.  Even walking can be treacherous.

A quick good morning to everyone...  I'm trying to keep on top of the snow shoveling here, since DH has been at the hospital working since 3:30am.

Saw a couple of fun friends on Weds night - who, coincidentally, are ex-friends of the same girl who "dumped me".  They actually dumped HER in the past (separately) because of her meanie-ness.   So they welcomed me to "the club".  LOL.  We definitely had a lot of laughs.

Stay warm everyone - to those who are feeling under the weather, I truly hope you feel better soon.

Hugs & luv to u all....   "Juliet"

      Morning!  Blech. Yuck.

We got about 4"...a mix of ice and snow and little icy pellet thingies.  Took me a bit but my little blower did its job.  DH had to go to school even tho the schools are closed....administrators don't get snow days off.  I don't know about you guys but I am tired of winter, and it's still fall!  Email from SIL in FL had to rub it in...she has the AC on.

Rita...glad your power didn't stay out.  I was very concerned about that.

Blackjack...how's the rib/closet/shopping/decorating coming?  I'm glad you have the day off to maybe catch up.

    Juliet...how's the attic?

Jackie...glad you had fun at the party last night.  DH went to his own faculty party and then had to scoot over to the principal's party....the snow didn't start til long after he was home.

NurseJan.....it's so amazing that you were dx'd, had surgery and now almost finished with rads in such a short time!  Soon you will regain your "normal" life!

Laura/JanClare/LittleC/Carolberrypatch/Mich101.....how did you fare with the weather?

Susan...did you get your snow day?????

Hope you all have a safe, dry day.  I am off upstairs to finish all the wrapping.  Then I guess I'll just sit on my lazy butt until it's time to fix dinner or snowblow again!

I did get my snow day, although not a lot of snow.  They call it by four in the am and it was rough then.  It is good for me as I am still getting better.  This thing I have baffles me.  I had the flu shot and I swear, I have never been so down with congestion and coughing.  I wonder why.  My Dh has it too so maybe by being in this house together we are compunding the impact of the bug.The Bc makes you paranoid about everything.  Teaching was awful these past two days as I lost my voice.  We fire all our really good subs as they tend to do their own plan.  To me that makes sense.  A lesson plan written by a woman with a fever at two in the morning who feels like hell with earaches during the week before holiday break does not alway  make sense.  Then the sub TOLD the kids it did not  not make sense even though I left my home phone number for clarification.  I am really venting here.  I think a good sub should have a trick up her sleeve (a great lesson plan) in the event this is a real emergency.  Plus we let these total strangers into the school who claim to be a sub.  My kids told me  they were wigged out by the one who came and I should be glad he didn't call me.   Just recently we fired two subs who always kept order but did not necessarily follow the lesson plan.  Tirage of sorts.

Sorry ladies, tis the season to be jolly.  I should be telling this to the administration and not to you.  I will..

Anyway, I am getting stronger.  My good wishes to you all.  I hope that those in treatment are doing well.  I hope you all have cozy homes.  I hope that you are happy and not stressed and simply enjoying your life.  I will have a glass of OJ and salute us all.  One year from now, god willing, I will be healthy and retired.  I need to retire, Rita and Mary Jane.  I am so ready and not because I hate my work, because I love my work.  I just need to dip and dabble into so many things to find something that is as sweet as teaching, yet less exhausting and more conducive to good health.  Even the young teachers look so worn out (and I mean under 30)!

    Take care,'Susan
