I wanted this separate from the ravings!
I am so relieved to hear, Nurse, that you are out of surgery and on the mend. You certainly are a strong woman.
All in treatment, I am thinking of you and wishing you relief from chemo symptoms. It is hard to be sick around the holidays, but allow yourselves to rest and be quietly in peace with those who love you so much. Just hold hands if you feel too weary to socialize.

Oncology visit: (dx jan 07)
Hello to all the newbies (this is my worst time of year busy-wise). Welcome to the club no one wants to join (I love that cliche).
I had my 6 month followup with oncologist...apparently he only does the 27 29? test(s) once a year...mammo was okay...right unaffected boob was a little fatter, WHAT?!!! 8-) That's a good thing, right, (if i had a boyfriend, chuckle)
I officially have osteoporosis in right hip...he suggests zometa, for two years and then another bone scan...I take arimidex.....(by the way, only $2030 for almost a year supply from canada drugs dot com...vs. 895 for 90 days at sams....in one year it might go generic) I have to be better about taking calcium, vitamin d and slow magnesium (wendy has told us that 3 times she went off magnesium and every time she started aching, thus it really helps her)....1000 mg vit d in winter especially...1500 mgs calcium (i like shaklees chewable calcium and magnesium because i just couldnt get myself to take citracal)...
I started vitamixing past week?,(seasonal sale at costco and sams club. limited time, good price, 395 vs 449 at vitamix . com) www.rawfamily.com VBoutenko says dont bother buying the dry blade grinder....An extra 32 oz. blender container is 99 but more online....so i got an extra one so i can do my dogs raw meat diet separate.
In two weeks I've lost 5 pounds, already was losing weight since I've been on my own for meals since August --which means I never think about eating....(life change of uncle dying and not being required to be there twice a day before and after mealtime).... I concentrate on 60 percent fruit, 40 percent veggies).... Last night I tried kale!...Bought avocados, not sure what they taste like but I'm sure they are good for us, I thought I read that someplace.
To summarize, naturapath liked dr. Jensen diet: 6 2 1 1 i think it's 6 veggie servings a day, 2 fruit, 1 carbohydrate and 1 protein.
www.DrMitchellND.com (she can diagnose you from your eyes, iridiology)
Natural Pet animal hospital : www.DrKarenBecker.com but her pharmacy is way high...i order the supplements online for the pets. or through my regular vet.
She is having a roundtable soon, check it out if you love your pets and have time. She is FANTASTIC could be in our group if you know what I mean, but it's a hike and all her office staff is not as great.
That's my wisdom for now! Kater
Oh and I tried rice milk last week so started cereal again (because, i heard a theory, bht might be helping people not get stomach cancer, unlike in asia-lots of stomach cancer and not here)...and now the vitamix says you can MAKE rice milk, finally found brown rice (sams costco didnt have?)....and now after oncology apptmt, i know that i will try almond milk, because he says almonds and nuts are excellent source of vitamin D I think he said. So that will help the cereal go down.
I realize if i really do the raw food diet, I'll save money on stove bills. ha ha ha.Jan Clare you have inlaws doing it...any more input, are they really really healthy? I talked to a 1987ovarian cancer survivor and she says she eats anything she wants....she got dx at age 42.
Wow, just got the word my surgical insurance okayed zometa. yeah.

zometa study in regards to US with BC
Bone Drug Lowers Risk of Breast Cancer Recurrence
0 -
Kater ---- now there is something pretty positive....getting the possibility of bc recurrence lowered by helping your bones...outstanding. I say anything that can give you a nudge if not a giant push in that direction is the way to go.
Hi Elf Song.....good to see you back again though sounds like that old chemo is still going down hard. Keep on your oncologist/nursing chemo staff to find the best combination so it can hopefully be easier for you. Hope your Mom is doing well.....I know you were concerned about her being in major upset for you. Hopefully she has come to terms with it all...or as much as a mother can. I know everyone here hopes you and your family have good holidays as well.
I'm saying aaawww look at that sweet everlovin' face Buddy Love has. Just makes you want to grab him and give him a big kiss ----- though I can see scenes from my childhood ( do dogs feel that way I wonder ) of feeling huge reluctance when Aunt Millie demanded a kiss from the small fry and her breath was not so sweet. Everyone is edging back just a little trying not to look like they are edging back just a little.
Gosh.....weather in Chicago areas sounds like it was pretty awful for the most part. I hope that it settles out here soon as the big day is not that far away.
Hope you all are well and good to hear you are doing better Susan.....just take it easy though. Don't want a relapse or anything. Hopefully, the thing will just sneak out quickly and quietly.
Time to go make dinner and throw myself on the sweet mercy of my recliner. I'm pooped.
Talk to ya'll tomorrow.
Jackie

Hi all,
Have been a little absent. Came down big time with the cold/crud that seems to be running so rampant. I'm not sure that my immune system is completely back to where it once was. This thing settled in my chest big time and I have barely a voice from all the coughing. Better be gone by Christmas. I mean seriously-- after all we've been through-- shouldn't Christmas be spared! ZAP- you have my sympathies-- this just stinks.
And a little news-- saw PS on Tuesday and my revision surgery is a go. Dec. 30. He is going to release the scar tissue a bit on the implant size, maybe put in one size larger (not that I want to go any larger, but now that all the swelling has disappeared, it seems that the skin is a bit, um, loose and can accommdate just a little larger implant. Also will lipo (!) the "dog flap" on the implant side And then he will lift my right side (had reduction and lift) just a bit more.
All this will done outpatient at Highland Park Hospital. Will be home that night. I'm not all that thrilled about having surgery again-- but- if I have it done on the 30th, I just slide under the insurance wire for 08....which will make a huge difference financially. Just won't be doing any partying or drinking New Year's Eve. PS doesn't think I will need a drain again, thank goodness. But will be back on antibiotics. Soo- for the short term, I'm just not going to deal with it until after Christmas.
Shopping is done, but nothing is wrapped. Hoping to get to it this weekend, but we are booked solid. The kids will be in the Christmas pageant on Sunday-- Beth is an angel (ha!) and Tim is to be a shepherd. If I can figure it out, I will post a pic here afterwards.
Phone rang at 6am this morning. Tim's school was closed. Then Beth's sitter called- she closed. I had been up all night coughing, so planned to work from home today-- and wrap. Well- best laid plans....Fortunately, dh only had a half day and came home to take the kids sledding.
Buster and Buddy are adorable! We took out the stockings this weekend and there was Allie's (kitty who passed away last month). Missing her.
Elfsong-- hang in there---- I'm so glad your mother is there to help.
Hoping everyone else is well.....there's an earthquake going on upstairs. I think the kids are bed hopping-- gotta run up and save the ceiling. "talk" with everyone soon.

Morning girls! Warmish by me...but I hear the deep freeze is coming. At least DH and I agreed that his jeep will sit out as it has the newest battery and he has remote starting. We were out for dinner last night and were complaining about the weather and then it dawned on us that it is still FALL!!!!! Blech and yuck!
Laura....Buddy is still a cutie!
JulieChicago....don't forget that pic of your creche! Glad that you are able to get all your "stuff" done before 1/1/2009. It sounds complicated tho. I know that you and Juliet were talking about this at the luncheon, and the fact that you were unhappy with the shape, not the size. Will this take care of things? And you are having lipo on the dog ears? Well....that's interesting. Not sure I understand that one. Is your ceiling still in one piece? How's the cold? Mine's still hanging on, not really sick, just not up to par.
Kater....you LOST 5 pounds????? You are waaaaaay too skinny now! I've been religious about my calcium/ Vit D and mag...never miss a day. I did up my Vit D to 2000U daily...been reading about that one and I figure it couldn't hurt! The other thing I've been reading about is the connection between hypothyroidism and BC....I was dx'd with hypoT just 2 months after BC and my new PCP told me at that time that he sees this all the time and he is convinced that there is something there so he makes sure all his female pts get their thyroid checked every year, starting at age 40...not the every 5 years that most docs do. So you better believe I NEVER miss that little synthroid pill either! If you guys haven't had a thyroid panel done recently, you may very well want to do so. I had NO symptoms of a low-functioning thyroid.
Elfsong....I am so sorry that chemo continues to punish you. I would just keep after the chemo nurses like Jackie said...there are so many meds out there to help you. Sounds like your Mom is OK with everything and I am happy for you both. I know how worried you were about her.
Susan...hopefully you will be much better, if not CURED by next week. How's hubby?
Connie....how many hours til you leave?
Blackjack....let me know how you do with the closet. I know I can't do that myself but I am seriously thinking about maybe just taking my measurements and going to California Closet here in Geneva Commons and just asking how much it would be. Doesn't cost anything to ask, right???
Rita....I have looked all over for Butterscotch Schnapps and can't find it. Tom is going to stop at Binney's Beverage Depot this am and ask. And by the way....it is so embarrassing to go into a liquor store and say "Butterscotch Schnapps", and screw it up, BIG TIME! Just try saying that 3 times fast!!!!! The last store I went into, I just picked up a bottle of the peppermint schnapps and asked if they had it in butterscotch flavor! Last time I asked for it...it came out "Butcherment Schnipps". Lord knows what they were thinking.....
Jackie...it's in the 50's by you? Get out the grill and put some chairs on your deck...I'll be down with the steaks and shrimp around 4!
NurseJan....how are things going? I know this sounds strange, but I consider you lucky to have been able to avoid the 7.5 weeks of rads! One of ours gals here, Jackie, due to her ins actually had to live away from home during the week to get her tx!
Our company did not come....kids had ear infections and could not fly so we have nothing planned this weekend. DH's BD is Monday tho....so maybe I will plan something nice for him. You know...that is the one thing I am sooooo grateful for...since starting his new med for his atril fib he has had ZERO problems. He is feeling great, losing weight and is soooo happy these days. I guess I never realized how bad his symptoms were, until he didn't have them anymore. Big change around here, let me tell you!
Time for some more coffee....I bought some of that Christmas blend from Starbucks....pretty good. But if you go, get a peppermint, lowfat, hot chocolate...and get the large one, whatever it's called. That stuff is sinful, it is so good! And while you are at it, try the low fat cinnamon coffee cake....too yummy to explain, just eat some! Have a great day!

The greatness comes not when things go always good for you. But the greatness comes when you're really tested, when you take some knocks, some disappointments, when sadness comes. Because only if you've been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.

Good Saturday morning,
First off --- Happy Birday to Tom. Hope it's fantastic. Glad to hear the meds are working so well. Though I am sorry about the incident that happened recently....in retrospect it seems it has started things moving to really positive levels -- it just sounded so scary and indeed was. But I do think we meaning all of us --- not just those of us with a cancer diagnosis, are given opportunities often to CHANGE for the better. Sometimes I think the opportunities are subtle and often, like in this case, they are pretty much in your face. It gives us something to watch for and many reasons to hope. Wendy said something pretty profound too. We GET used to how things are and while we probably don't always mean to.....accept it as the status quo thinking it is as good as it can get or may ever be. So.....just bear that in mind in regard to how things are for you and yours --- maybe it is subtle and so if there is even the slightest question push to go farther with it. I identified with this because in general I'm a non-complainer. Big Thanks for sharing that Wendy.
Ok --- sorry about our warm weather but by tonight...oh my gosh are we in for it. I may take on doing all the ferals so my friend Maggie does not have to go out so much. I think I need to take my heavy coat to One-Hour Martinizing early today so I'll be ready. Not looking forward to this. Now....starting to think perhaps we are in for a really yucky winter. Prediction was for the worst winter in ten years. As long as I'm here to complain about it I think I'll just take what comes and go with it. It should be interesting anyway --- I'll just get to see what I'm really made of I guess, huh !!!!!!
Hope you all have a good Saturday. I've got lots to do, but I slept well last night and I do have all that time off now.......even though it cuts into getting paydays prettty seriously --- just another little challenge to keep life lively and interesting. Someone spoke to me of Christmas and I said----I'm glad to celebrate this holiday---but since I finished txs --- every day just about has been X-mas-Thanksgiving-Easter----you name it. I am RICH-RICH-RICH with life and have not NEAR the problems I once had --- lots of challenges -- almost no problems.
Talk to you all later when I check back in.
Jackie

Julie B,...Be sure you do not need to go on an antibiotic. I rarely am an alarmist and the last one to go to the doctor, but man I am glad I did. This thing was powerful and I just finish my Z-pack and am just now beginning to feel better. DH was worse off than I as he did wait to go to the doctor...he had it about three days before I started and I kinda did what he did. The coughing is the worse part. I too wonder if my immune system has been jeopardized as I too never get sick like this. I truly am better now.
Dear Elf song, I am so sorry you are under the wetaher. I hope you mother is enjoying the children. It sounds like she is coping okay. You need her now, that is for sure. What number are we on? I lost the number of chemos for you.
The dogs are all so cute. Laura, what a doll. My cat is ugly as sin but I so love her. She is adopted, had a botched hysterectomy so her belly sways when she runs to me when I come home after school. Whenever people meet her for the first time they say, "What is wrong...." and we just say we know and that she is fine.
Have a good day.

Good morning! Once again we awoke to no power. It's becoming a standard around here. The only good thing about it was that we went into town for breakfast since I couldn't cook and I'm pretty ugly until I get my morning cup of coffee. We ran a few errands while we were in town and found the lights and water back on when we got home. I'm already sick of this stuff!!!! LOL
Elf-song...so good to hear from you. I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time with the chemo but am so glad that your Mom is there to help you. There is nobody like a MOM! LOL Hang in there and try to enjoy the holidays.
JulieB....so glad that you're getting your reconstruction all done by the end of the year. Wow! You'll have a really nice Christmas present when they're all done and will be ready to really step out into the new year. I will certainly be thinking about you on the 30th and sending good vibes your way.
Laura...such cute picture of Buddy! :-)
Sharon, how are you doing? I've been thinking about you!
It's too bad that we can't all stow away with Connie and her family and go south for the holidays! I'm envious! Hope you have a great time, Connie. This will certainly be a Christmas that you kids will remember forever!
Well I need to get some things done around here before the electricity decides to go off again. The fun of living in the woods!!
All of you with colds and infections......take care of yourselves!
Have a good Saturday and catch you all later. Rita

HI all!
Just a quick hello. Kids had a good time in the snow yesterday, but they were a bit disappointed in not having school because their parties were scheduled for Friday. I am not looking forward to the cold that is supposed to hit us tomorrow. I think it said a high of 2!!!
BTW - it is 80 in Florida. Sorry - had to throw that in. I'm watching the weather every day as I can't wait to get there and I'm hoping nothing happens here to delay our flight!
Blackjack - I heard about the snow in Vegas. We actually have an office there and my boss lives there. He was on his way to Chicago to come to our office Xmas lunch. The LV airport was closed! He made it, but talk about weird.
Sorry to all you gals that are sick with colds and chemo. I hope everyone is well enough to enjoy Xmas. I was thinking back to last Xmas. I was done with chemo, but still bald and wearing my wig. Now this Xmas I have a thick head of curls. It goes by fast. Hugs to everyone going through treatment!
We are celebrating Xmas today with my side of the family. My brother is here from Michigan and we are heading to my sister's house this afternoon. Tomorrow we are going out to brunch with DH's parents to celebrate. Then on Xmas Day we will be having dinner with Mickey! Kids are excited!
I'll try to hop back in before we leave Tuesday!

Wow, winter has just startec today, and what a fall we have had! Rita, I agree with you about the coffee. Can't talk until I've had some in the morning. We did try to make some outside on the gas grill when we lost power in the summer, but winter is another story.
Susan and Julie, I hope your coughs and colds are much better, and gone by Christmas.
Jackie....50's by you? I think we'll be in the deep freeze by tonight, and have about 5 inches of fresh snow on the ground. I stayed home during the storm, and was able to watch all the deer right outside my window. They were feasting on my yews, which don't look very tasty to me. It looked so beautiful though, just like a Christmas card.
Speaking of feasting....I got an early start on the holidays with all the goodies from our luncheon. Laura, thanks for the wonderful brownies. MaryJane...the bread was so good I couldn't stop eating it. JanClare, I'm finally getting it right....Trader Joe's wonderful chocolates! Thank you. Did you see Trader Vic's has reopened? just to confuse me again.
I'm not sure who to thank for the stocking, foil covered chocolate Santa, and candy cane. Was that you, Michele? Thanks to you also for the beautiful poinsettia plants. It is decorating my coffee table, and the lovely ornament is in there too since I don't have a tree.
Kater... Anything that helps prevent bc is a good thing!
Wendy...I'm on 2000 of D too, in addition to what is in a multi vit, and in the calcium tablets. I use Citracal, so I'm getting 3000 of D altogether. I have the levels measured just to check, because you can get too much D, though it isn't easy to do. One of my docs prescribed it, so it isn't something I decided to take. Can't tell if it is doing anything, but she thinks she is "tweaking" my immune system.
Laura... Buddy is the perfect Christmas dog, and so cute. Hi sfur looks like Santa's beard!
Elfsong....I'm so sorry your tx is so hard on you. Bug your docs for something to help. There are so many these days that you shouldn't have to tolerate being sick.
JulieChicago...I'm so glad you could schedule your surgery this year to benefit financially. And you'll have it over all the sooner. I had the "lift" on my other side too. I call it a reduction, and I am very happy with it.
I've still got shopping to do, so I'd better run. Everyone be careful out there, and stay warm!
Hugs, Pat

LauraGTO - Aww Buddy is SO Cute. Buster is here in the room with me but he's passed out... I gotta wake him up so he can see Buddy.
Elf Song - so sorry you're having a hard time with the chemo, and a cold to boot.
JulieB - also sorry to hear that you are sick, again What a drag. You are darn right, we should all have a free pass to be super healthy & for the holiday season.
Wendy - have a great time with DH on his b-day. Don't tie streamers near the breadbox, whatever you do
Susan - are you finally feeling better? I sure hope so. And I want to see a pic of your "ugly" kitty cat. Something tells me she is super adorable.
Rita - what's up with the power there ? Strange, huh ? Hey, getting out for breakfast was nice though, wasn't it... glad it didn't stay off long. That happens to us a lot here, too.... it always happens a few days in a row like that.
Connie - Bon Voyage... oh, and I'm jealous as all heck. Just bein honest, hon!!
Kater - I drink Almond Milk (and nothing else). I've tried many, and the best I have found (as far as additives, sugar, etc.) is Almond Breeze Original Unsweetened. I am often able to find this at Jewel & Dominicks in their natural foods aisle - but always at Whole Foods, Fruitful Yield, and sometimes Trader Joes. They (Almond Breeze) also have website & you can order it.
Hi to Pat, Jackie, Michele - and everyone else too. So many posts since I was here last.
My sister is bringing me along to a "cookie exchange" tomorrow. She said I only have to make 3 dozen.. I thought that was a very small amount for a cookie exchange. She said it's more about getting a bunch of girls together & having some cocktails.. and the cookes are just the alibi..... LOL!!! So I'm really looking forward to it. Her friends are a riot. So tonight I will be baking - and sampling, of course.
Big hugs to everyone... Juliet

Hi Everyone...hope you all are staying warm. Don't you just love this winter weather cold and slushy and let's add ice to it. So I think we all should go to Florida and hang out with Connie and her kids. lol lol. Have a wonderful holiday in Florida with your kids...that's what memories are made of.
Wendy..dh have a big bday on Monday.. Happy Birthday to him and maybe you should take him to lunch at our new place.. yum yum
Rita..that is terrible about your power going out esp when it is cold outside. please try to stay healthy for us.
Juliet..baking cookies is sooo much fun but drinking cosmo's while baking is even better. lol have fun at your cookie exchange.
Laura..buddy is sooooo cute. He really should be on a xmas card.
Juliechicago..looks like Santa is giving you a new present early. lol Hope everything goes well and you will be ringing in the New Year in style. Healthy that is !!
Jackie.. glad to see that you had a great time at your party..it is always fun to see freinds.
Smerf..glad to see that your son's project is almost done...then we can finally get to play lol
To all the girls in tx I hope you are all doing well and recovering nicely. Rest is the most important thing.
As for me I am off to a holiday party... still need to finish shopping, wrapping and cooking. I know I will be burning that midnight oil..lol
Have a great evening everyone. The holiday is almost here ....need suggestions for the lunch bunch in Jan if you want it then. Let me know. April is for Rita and the girls down south...
Gotta run..remember to be healthy...be happy

Juliette, I will send a pic of my cat's face (when i figure out how to post that). Her face is cute. Her whole self is not.
Have fun at your party tonight, Michele! The weather is frightful here. Your rib must be all better. I am happy.
The stores were not at all bad, but then I live in a heavily Jewish area so fewer Christmas shoppers. We did shopping and man, there were no lines. Anyone buying for little kids? Carters outlet is amazing. I bought 10 outfits (tops and bottoms) for $68.00. There is one in Deerfield and one in Glenview. Maybe they are near you. Of course every baby/toddler in town will be wearing the same Carters outfit, but soooo cute. Keeping track of coupons and bargains is challenging. I haven't used coupons in years. This year I surely am, as are my two daughters and my DH. You can get great deals. I also did a lot of internet, free shipping this year and that is the best.
So feel good, friends!

Hi girls...I am SO BUMMED....my computer/lifeline is in the intensive care unit...totally crashed today... my puter tech dude rushed over...but had to take the whole hard drive... dh just hooked me up to his laptop... i hate typing on this... but wanted to check in... i had lots of puter shopping to do today... but NOT... I AM so bummed... i need my puter back... i would rather give up food an wtaer.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S $100per hour - I hope he works really fast! more later....love ya all!

Blackjack: April is for Rita and the girls down south... What's planned for April?
Connie-I'm so jealous too! Have a wonderful time with Mickey.
Elf Song-Hope you are feeling better soon
Wendy-Happy B-Day to DH!
Rita- Did you ever post a pic of your remodeled bathroom?
DH and I just made a bunch of cookies. So much for not eating after 7:00

Morning! -6 on my deck. We have a bit of light snow but it seems very slippery....I just watched a car slide sideways....so be careful! Lots more snow coming Tuesday. Blech.
Laura....sorry about your puter woes. Mine died about 2 months ago...very frustrating and what made it worse was that was where my iTune library was and I never saved it to another disk. Apple doesn't let your iPod sync to the newly downloaded library...if you do, it wipes your iPod clean! I guess Apple did this so people would have to spend more money on add'l songs. There is a utility I hear that you can download for free that can do this for you....but if you guys have iTune libraries....COPY THE FILE!!!!
Cookies, cookies, cookies! I haven't even started mine....I will bake on Tuesday.
Connie...yep, it's been heavenly in Fl. My niece leaves Tuesday as well...I think she said they have a 7am flight. We always go to her house on Christmas Eve so this year will be just the 2 us in front of the fire. Quiet, but nice. I hope you have a wonderful time!
Pat...sounds very pretty, out your window. And how did you ever make coffee on the grill???? I take it you and Rita have electric ranges. I have gas so it isn't a problem. I do remember when the hurricane hit my SIL and they were without power, she said it was horrible not to have coffee. I just laughed and said, turn on your burner and light it with a match! And my BIL has 2 masters degrees in engineering! We still laugh about that!
I actually went shopping yesterday and I have to agree....no lines. Well, not at 9am anyway. I went out mainly to go to Hallmark to get those motion activated gift bags. They are a hoot! There are different ones but the one I bought ...when you get near it...a police siren comes on and tells you to "step away from the bag". They're not too expenisve and my store had a 30% off promotion going. DH jumped a foot when it went off!!!!
I'm just watching the news....Obama is in Hawaii. They are showing pictures of Waikiki and the beach and water. I WANT TO BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time to do something with my day. I dread going out there but the cars need to be started. Hopefully they both will...but with this snow I can't take the Z out. Heck, I don't even know if it will start! Be careful out there, and don't stick you tongue to the light pole!

Morning Girls,
Oh what fun I had last noc. I do love the holiday season. We had way too much fun, too many cosmo's, food and laughs. We had a grab bag exchange and I kept loosing my gift.. all the good one's. lol. But ended up with a really nice wine basket. The roads were bad driving home last noc. Lots of snow and ice on them. Today is another busy day for me. I agree the malls were not crowded and now Macey is open 24 hrs for the next 3 days. So if you have trouble sleeping go shopping. lol
Wendy.. where is the beach chair for us. I think we need the cabana boys.. drinks..fun in the sun. lol Next plane to Maui. lol
Laura..computer problems are the pits. There is a new virus out there that looks like it is from Microsoft but if you read the fine print you will fine lots of spelling mistakes. Beware and don't open the file or your computer will crash.
Connie..have lots of fun in Fl and have a Merry Xmas.
Susan..are you feeling better. My rib is still sore..but it takes 6 weeks to heal.. so I am doing ok.I just try not carry anything on my left side..When is the baby due...
Pat..have a happy holiday with your family.
Jackie..did you get a lot of snow by you.
Well I am off for more coffee this am as I need to getting going here. Shopping , cooking and a other party...Stay warm everyone it is cold out there.
Remember to be healthy...be happy...

Acceptance is not a state of passivity or inaction. I am not saying you can't change the world, right wrongs, or replace evil with good. Acceptance is, in fact, the first step to successful action. If you don't fully accept a situation precisely the way it is, you will have difficulty changing it. Moreover, if you don't fully accept the situation, you will never really know if the situation should be changed. Peter McWilliams, Life 101 Acceptance is such an important commodity, some have called it "the first law of personal growth." Peter McWilliams, Life 1010

Good morning my beautiful friends and welcome to the land of freezing cold. We have no snow what-so-ever so I can be happy for that. We did know it was to GET cold so it's not really a surprise....and I have to think of the above quotes as hard as I can.
Speaking to which......this is often so difficult to do. We don't often know when we are resisting something --- but I keep thinking...might as well have beautiful white snow as long as we have to have these oh so cold temps.
Making coffee on the grill...as long as you get it hot enough to boil you are fine. For a long time I used coffee pots that sat on the stove. I'm not sure but I think it came out to medium heat which produced a gentle boil and you would let it boil for the amt of cups you had in the pot.....1 minute per cup. Then I graduated to a percolator. For oh so long----I could tell if coffee went through a percolator or drip machine....and of course, I wanted it perked. Now, I put it in the Bun drip machine and wait a short while and drink to my heart's content. Sign of age I guess. The older you are the less you care how it's made --- you just need it. Use to drink nothing but Yuban, then Maxwell House, now Hill's Bros. and it's all good. Usually black but I keep flavored creamer and use that on occasion.
Ah yes....computers...mine was just so full. Thought of an external hard drive but in the end since I was using a Vista at work ( no problems at all there ) I decided to get one. I do not do all that much. I think they can be problematic in specific work applications but here at home....I'm a very basic user so I did not expect any problems and to date I haven't had any either....so good luck Laura. As as aside.....when I have had problems in the past...I often take my pc to Staples. They will do repairs -- some very economical. I recall one time I got the BLUE screen....thought I was a goner for sure. They gave me their $10.00 tune-up special and I was back in business inside of 2 hours. I walked around Wal-Mart next door till my pc was done. So, once in a while it may not be as bad as you think.
Michele---I think your X-mas game is the same one we play at our office X-mas party. Person who draws number one goes first to choose a gift and anyone after can take any gift that has been opened and the person 'losing' their gift has to choose another. It is a lot of fun isn't it ???? Speaking of stores being open....even Sears is staying open until 11 p.m. Dh is only on late last night and tonight....then days till the big day. It gets awfully quiet the last couple of hours for him but in the appliance department no one is buying much----they are generally coming in because something has fallen apart at home
Well, I need to get going. I hope you all have a beautiful sunny Sunday. Just remember the quotes....totally accept that old cold air and when you do....then you can feel like it's not.

Holy cow could it be any colder out ? Don't answer that...
Blackjack - so glad you had fun night!! And more fun is on tap for u today. Enjoy.
Rita - I sure hope your power stayed on!!
Well I baked my cookies last night & they came out pretty & yummy, but today my sister said she doesn't want to drive to the Cookie Party due to the wind/weather advisory & stuff I'm trying my hardest to stay positive with the winter weather - but it keeps ruining plans, or causing problems for people (accidents, etc) & i'm really sick of it.
So I guess it's another day of Hermit-dom for me & Buster. Which he will just love
Please be careful out there today ladies - high winds, nasty cold, and we are possibly getting more snow again this afternoon. Drive safely!!!
Hugs, Juliet

I feel good! I cannot believe it.
Today I do about 15 things I should have done before (wrapping, decorating, etc). We are told a blizzard is on its way. I feel I can handle anything now that the virus is OUT! Poor daughter's car is frozen into the snowbank in Chicago. To save money they do not plow side streets! She was going to help me wrap gifts. I told her to just come later this week. Imagine having your car frozen in a snowbank!
Michelle, baby 2 is due on February 5. My daughter does not realize that that is the birthday of my DH's mom who died young with BC. My girls of course never met her (nor did I) and that has always saddened him. I will not say anything unless the baby actully is born on that date....she is under enough pressure with two babies in diapers! My first grandchild was almost two weeks late, so I wouldn't bet the ranch on anything happening on a timely basis.
Have a wonderful Sunday. ElfSong, I am thinking about you. Juliette, I know you are disappointed about the cookie party and you need some fun in your life. Julieb, good lordy, you have been through quite a journey. Jackie, thanks for the inspiration. Wendies, have fun today and Wendy, stay out of trouble. Michele, glad the rib is healing.
I know I should never have started trying to list everyone...big mistake for me. I will get back to everyone later. ALL OF YOU!

Hi ladies. I'm checking back in on this thread and will give an update on my treatment. I am amost 2 years out from my dx and lumpectomy. I finished my herceptin last May and had my port removed last June. I've had 2 follow up visits with my onc, and things seem to be going well. I don't have my bloodwork reports back from last week yet, but I don't have any reason to think they'd be out of the ordinary for me.
I'm scheduled for a ct scan of chest, abdomen and pelvis next week, as a precaution since I had a positive inner mammary node.
I still have fatigue, but the onc doesn't seem concerned.
I had some back, hip and leg pain, and was on gabapentin for awhile for neuropathy, and had some problems getting my GP to follow up it. Thank goodness for my Rad Onc. On my 6 month follow up with him, I mentioned it and he sent me for an MRI. Turns out I have multi-level disc disease, spinal stenosis, and a perinural cyst. I had PT and they said I also had performis syndrome, and put a TENS machine on me for 4 weeks. That really helped break the pain cycle.
I had a "stable" mammo last July and am due for another in January.
So, I'm slowly getting back to whatever is considered normal after BC. I think it's different for every one.

Happy Sunday to everyone.....Radiation continued today despite the day and the weather....for the 7am gig it was -5 for the noon one we had an exciting 2+ .....I DO know how very lucky I was to qualify for this type of radiation, the qualifications were very specific and if even one of them isnt right you are nixed immediately. It has just been quite a whirlwind since Dec 1.......
When any of you have the time, I know we are all in the midst of holiday things.....could you post to me or PM to me any advice you have on nutrition, exercise, supplements and feelings about Arimidex ...... which I will take without hesitation but better forearmed with anything I should know. It is my hope and my intent to be proactive about keeping myself healthy using whatever is at my disposal.
I really enjoy checking this forum everyday and reading all of your posts .....this is the only place I have to go to where I have *friends* who are actually in the same boat WITH me and not just asking how the ride is......

Hi same day nurse Jan: arimidex question (i dont have much to say exactly)
I've been on arimidex for almost a year and I take it one should take it the same time very day but I have been unable to get into that habit. They also say you have to be careful not to let others handle it (like kids or pets).....
You might get more night sweats or hot flashes, or that might be from the menopause, not sure...but whatever it was, it has not been as bad these past 6 months for me (i had ovaries out one year ago, at 49/50...so i was able to switch from tamoxifen to arimidex earlier this year).
Dont make the mistake I did, make sure you listen to what they tell you at dr. office:
ensure you get calcium through food or take supplements. (and dont forget the magnesium)
above i said what the oncologist told me just lately...also, 6 hours or more in between calcium supplements...vitamin D at least 1000 mg in the winter daily....(since we get less sun for one reason).....nuts..walnuts, almonds...have great amounts of vitamin D (thus making almond milk is what i'm going to use for cereal when i start making it in vitamix). Busters mom says she always uses almond milk, BMom i was going to tell you that last night i watched my v boutenko dvd and the first thing she made was almond milk, easy, fast, just add water and strain through a bag made from your wedding dress! ha ha...would that be the underskirts, i'd be glad to tear up my wedding dress for such a good cause....nylon? but for now, i ordered the $10 almond bag from www.rawfamily.com .......i had stocked up on almonds last winter but i never ate hardly any of them!
