    Hi all

Well, I survived the first post treatment Onc appt. Thanks for the hand holding and believe me, Wendy, I had your fort in mind. Felt ridiculous sitting in my car in the parking garage a good 10 minutes before I could make myself go in.  And when I walked into the hospital lobby, they've got one of these stupid player pianos playing something tinny and too cheery.  I hate those things. Yell.  The appt was relatively uneventful- as I knew it would be in a way.  No tests ordered-- although he does want to confer with my surgeon about whether or not I should get an MRI this spring. He agrees with the radiologist who did my ultrasound. Post mastoplexy, there is a lot of scar tissue that will light up the MRI like a Christmas tree.  And the other-- he does agree that I should meet with the Gastro. doc and arrange for a colonoscopy.  So I have that consult on the 30th. Mysterious ab pain is gone now- I'm wondering if it may have been ovulation pain of sorts. I'm racing into perimenopause and I'm sensing things are a bit strange there- so maybe. But the anemia and a few gasto incidents in the past worry me a lot-- so I guess I'll finally have to get moving on this (pardon the pun...heh heh)

Elfsong- I went thru chemo last summer, tried to hold down my job, manage my house and kids-- I blew up at them- and DH countless times.  You're not alone.  I think I wrote about the night I threw a shoe at my husband. (As in--"try walking in these, buddy!")   We laugh about it now-- but certainly wasn't funny then. It does get better.....

Kids want to play- so best jump off.  Happy Passover and Easter to all if I don't get back on for a bit.

Just jumping in to say hi and glad everything went well for you Donna....it is so often anti-climatic.  I was a nervous wreck too ---- imagined all sorts of horrors and did not even actually know what the possibilities were ( just anything bad -- whether it had to do with a first chemo session or not ).  Glad you got this under your belt.

Julie/C....good that you have some answers now too and a plan for taking care of the colon and other things.  Maybe once those are handled you can move onto a place with a little less stress for body parts that go un-balanced after chemo txs.

See you later.  I'm bushed and have to get ready for work tomorrow.

    Hugs,

    Jackie

Buddy/Lisa.....hang in there ok.  So far you seem to be doing fairly well.

Morning!  Hope today will be as nice as yesterday...but I see a bit cooler.  At least it will be sunny and dry.

Elfsong....I see you were up AGAIN in the wee hours!  Young Lady...you need some sleep.

Julieb...glad your appt. was uneventful.  I didn't know about the shoe-throwing incident.  Few people I would like to throw a shoe at, and utter just those words!

Blackjack....glad you had a nice birthday!  Did you get out for dinner?  So....colonoscopies make you thin?????  I am calling today!  How are you feeling these days?  Has the fatigue lifted?  Hey....when's the next group lunch?  I need some girl-time.

Kater....Laura mentioned your bx....I had forgotten all about your "pea".  How was it?  You OK?

Smerf....calling Smerf!  Where ya at girll?  I found those Omega's 3-6-9 at amazon.com of all places...$28.38 for 120, no shipping charges or taxes.  I read up on the 3-6-9's and I am glad I decided to add them to my daily routine.  I paid $18.99 + tax for 60 from my local vita store so I think this was a much better deal.

Juliet...still keeping my ear to the ground re: a job for you.

Susan...do you have the days counted down yet?  I bet you do!

Rita/WendyTY...how's the walking going!  I was reading in that "First" mag that is in the grocery stores at the check-out...a slower paced walk is better for fat-burning than a rapid walk.  Thought you two might want to know that!

Jackie....deck furniture out yer????  C'mon!  Mine's out...altho it has been covered with snow twice...so far.

Well....my hair was growing longer and I was resorting to my old ways....back in a teeny ponytail.  I am waaaaay too old for that.  So.....off it came yesterday!  Layered, razor-cut, longer sides and kinda choppy and uneven.  It looked so cute!  I waited and DH noticed immediately...which was a total shock!  He said I look so different...and younger.  Hmmmm......wonder what he meant by that?  How old was I looking??????  Now if only I can blowdry it correctly after my shower.

Bored y'all enuf this morning.....have a great day!  I am going to do some work in the garage today, moving the snowblower to the side and bringing out the mower....my grass is really growing and I am thinking that next week I might just have to cut it.  Oh happy days!  Spring is sprung!

Good morning everyone!  That sun looks so bright and inviting!  Maybe....just maybe....spring is really approaching!

JulieB....Yea!  So glad the appointment went well.  I have been thinking about you and hoping for this good report.

Wendy, I imagine that we'll arrive too late on Friday night to cuddle that baby in your gorgeous blanket, but it won't be long until it finds a new home!  This has been a long week!  I'm so excited about this weekend.

Blackjack...so glad that you enjoyed your birthday.

Donna...I hope all is still going well for you.  Don't overdo because your body needs rest to heal!  Hugs!

Lisa/bunny, I like your new avatar!  You're beautful!

I've got to get some clothes ready for the suitcase and work on my kitchen so I'd better get off this thing!

    Hi All...

Had slept until around midnight and ended up taking  a Ambien.. not bad reaction from taking the Decadron.  I do have a call into RUSH as  starting last night, i have a redness on my cheeks and almost looks like a roascea look kind of red. Little warm to touch and have a slight puffy look about the cheek. Like i have had too much sunburn.

Walked today with my goldens and hope to try a yoga class, as then i will be getting my Neulasta shot. Also trying to find out if Aleve is ok to take instead of Tylenol.

Hope ALL is well today and make it a good day!!

    Hi Ladies,

I haven't been posting but I have been reading.  Started rads on Monday, and so far, so good!  I like the rads Dr. so much more than my onc.  Monday, I go back to work.  Went to work on Tuesday to see if all was in order for my return.  It's nice when your boss is counting the days until you get back!  Went shopping for some new clothes for work.  Nothing from last year fits anymore. Cry Also, I now have NEW neckline considerations.  Do they have to cut everything down to the navel?  Geez!     Today is such a gorgeous day that I'm going to take a walk...a short one.  16 days out from the last chemo ever, so I'm not going to push it yet.  Sometimes I think that I see "5 o'clock shadow" on my head.  Probably my blurry vision or wishful thinking!  Just a question...have any of you heard of or are taking Resveratrol?

Blackjack - Happy Birthday (Belated)  I hope that you have a lovely day with lots of friends, family, and hugs!

    Buddy1 - You are beautiful!

Elfsong - Sweetie, get some sleep!  You cannot heal without rest!  Are you taking anything for sleep?  If not, see Dr. and get something.  Also, I know that it sounds simple, but spring is here and you must get out of the house after a long winter of feeling ill.  Take the kids to the park, or story-time at the library, talk to the other Moms.  Find out what is going on in your area, read the newspaper.  Get involved!  I know the area that you live in and I know that there are plenty of young families in the area.

Donna - Do not give into those cravings for junk food!  It will make you feel worse over the next few days...trust me!  The redness in your cheeks and puffiness is from the predisone, as is the junk food cravings, and running around.  Steroids are nasty business, but unfortunately beneficial when you are having chemo.  Just make sure that you don't stop taking steroids all at once.  You must taper them off.

Rita -  You have just gotta be beside yourself to see the new baby!!  Have a good trip, and enjoy the cuddling and kissing!

Julieb - haha!  throwing a shoe!  A colonoscopy should lay your fears to rest!

Wendy - Your hair cut sounds CUTE!

Laura - Hope all is well with Paulie...I'm sure he's thinking "I'm one lucky dog!!!"  Have fun with your nieces!

Well, I need to get some stuff done around this house.  Heading to Ottawa on Saturday to see my grandkids and do some Easter Bunny stuff!  In a few days, time will again be at a premium!  But that's OK, because I am now getting part of my life back, and as you all know, there were times when I thought that would NEVER happen!

Happy Easter and Passover to all!

    Hugs,  Carol

Good afternoon to everyone - I can't believe it's after 4pm already.  Wow.  Where did the day go?

Blackjack, I did speak to that recruiter thank you!  (They aren't looking for people like me - too bad).

I have an interview at Alexian next Weds, please cross your fingers for me.   I have a good feeling about it. *think positive*

Sorry I've been kind of MIA, but I'm pouring all of my energy into the job search.  I really appreciate that you guys are trying to help, sending me good vibes, and all that stuff :)

Big hugs, and good wishes going out to everyone in tx (Carol, Donna, Lisa, ElfSong, and anyone that I may have missed)....   and more hugs to all of the rest of you ladies.    And I must have missed the post from Kater about her biopsy ?!!!  Thinking of you, kater!!!

Hope to be seeing everyone again soon.    Any plans on the horizon for a lunch/dinner/whatever?

    Take care - Juliet

Was just catchng up with you guys and I see I went on and on about my hair.  Well....aren't i just the sensitive girl!

Donna/Lisa/Carol/Elfsong....you don't have any hair!  I was just excited cuz my hair looked so good and really hadn't been this past winter.  Excited too that I had to have my hair thinned out...never happened before chemo.  I have lots more hair, and it is so shiny!  You guys really do have something tolook forward to!

    Carol....you ARE seeing a five o'clock shadow!  IT'S BACK!!!!!!!!!

Sorry again about babbling about hair.....I really do remember how it felt to be without hair and it was not a good time.  It's so funny that I swore when I was bald that I would never complain about my hair again....and that's all I do.  I guess I have become normal again.

Or the "new" normal anyway.  Elfsong...you get some sleep, and throw that shoe at DH!

    Hugs to you all!

    Wendy,

OMG, I didn't even think of it that way!  I did not even think for a moment that you were being insensitive!  Our situation is temporary.  (Even tho it doesn't seem that way sometimes)  Don't worry about it!  A good haircut is an exciting, and it really does sound cute.

    Hi ladies:

I am lost on the posts and I cannot go back to read them all.  I have no idea what the shoe thing is all about.  And I consider myself a "regular" here.

I need to get the retirement thing over.  One of my kids was using the stapler in class and she accidentaly stapled the  staple into the nail of her finger!  She is a pianist of great talent and her fingers are very important. Big concert in two weeks.   Well, she had to go the ER as our school nurse did not want to chance any further problems by dislodging it.   She was treated and she is fine!  Ironically, her mom was just diagnosed  as having cancer just after having a baby!  I have tried so to initiate conversation, but the family is so private.

ElfSong, I know where Plainfield is as I go to the Sandwich Antique Marts.  I am not a young mom as my daughters  are 26 and 29.....but I will come visit you when my school is out.  I can come to see you in June and we can take your kids to a  park.  My daughter has two babies and she could join me.  I would love to meet you and just talk while your  children have fun.  I really want to do that!   You sound so nice to know.

Morning!  Looks like a few nice days coming up...a little chilly today tho.

Susan...how sweet are you!  Offering to go see Elfsong with your grandbabies!  And ouch re: that staple in the nail!  The "shoe thing" was from JulieB...during chemo she worked fulltime while taking care of 2 small children and the house and her husband and he was picking on her about something so she took off her shoe and threw it at him while saying "you try walking in these for a whle"...I thought it was very funny!

Rita .....have a safe trip and get in an extra cuddle of Evan for all of us.  How was the trip to the casino with your Aunt?  Did she win?

Juliet....fingers crossed for your interview next week!  If hospitals are of interest to you...Delnor Hospital has a website with lots of jobs listed....it's really not that far from you.  Everyone who works there is soooo nice, I just love the hospital.  And they are so happy to work there.  Just a thought for you....

Carol....you are on a roll with your treatments!  But back to work, huh?  That should be interesting!  And yes...what's up with the necklines?????  Under lots of stuff I just weat a little cami.  I still have both the girls but since my dx I tend to hide them when I can.  I wonder what's up with that???  Practicing????

I read in the Daily Herald that the Living Well Cancer Center attached to Delnor Hospital is doing a series of lectures.  The first one is dealing with LE and is coming up.  I saved the paper....they are free and open to the public.  There is one coming up much later, dealing with the psychological impact of cancer.  I think this would be a good one to attend...we should get together with our significant others and go....drop THEM off and we all go out to this wine bar I know of.....Seriously....if anybody might be interested, PM me and I will give you the details.  The center is on Rt 38 in Geneva, just about a mile or so E of Randall Road.

Well...I have a ton of stuff to do today.  I hope that chemo is not kicking your butts to hard Donna and Lisa...just kicking some good ole cancerbutt and kickin in HARD!  If you need rest, rest.  This is some powerful juju you are taking.  Don't do what a lot of us did, including me....trying to be the picture of strength.  It only comes back to bite you later!  You have (had, rather) cancer and you should be pampered.  But of course, that doesn't mean you should throw shoes!  (or does it?  Sometimes just blowing up let's you move past stuff!)

    Have a happy day!

    Good morning!

Donna, I always felt the worst on the third or fourth day after treatment.  Take any anti-nausea meds that you were given and just rest.  It will go away!  I also found that lemon-flavored products seemed to help:  lemon drops, crystal light, lemon pie!  Keep putting in fluids, even if it means sucking on a popsicle.  It won't be long and you'll be feeling better.  It's raining in Central Illinois so I'm assuming that you're getting equally rotten weather.  There's not a lot of other exciting things you could be doing today so just rest and take it easy.  HUGS!

I need to put the last minute things in the suitcase and pick up some steaks that I am taking for tomorrow night's dinner so I'd better get going.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and a lovely Easter.

My camera is charged and ready to go!

Good Morning everyoneSmile.  we have some sun trying to peek out thought I thought we were to get more rain.  I hope they were wrong (  for this area  ) and maybe we can see the rain pass us by.  Rained yesterday and most of the night.  Between that and the hives I was worn out.  Hopefully will have a good ( if busy ) day.

Susan, that really is sweet of you to offer to share some time with Elfsong.  You are after all though fantastic, all of you...always ready to share in whatever way you can.

Laura....hope Gram is happy with her new Grandboy.  I'm nearly envious --- me with my zoo full of animals.  Can you believe!!!!!

Well, I have to look up some things on this computer for Dh ( I got the major sized screen ) so am going to now.

Hang in there Donna and Lisa ----- we are with you.  In fact....I'm glad you have each other since most of us are through. I'll be checking on you all later.

Rita....can't wait to see your pics when you get back.  Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy.

Oh, that is funny about the shoe thing.  JulieB is feisty and feisty is good!  It comes in real handy when you are on chemo.

Donna, third day was rough for me too.  I wonder why.  I was fine on the day, okay the second and then the third and fourth were rough.  Because I wanted to work (silly me), I had the chemo  after school on Thursday, felt fine on Friday so went to school.  I was not a happy camper on Sat and Sun and still a bit rocky on Monday (although I was able to go to school) and not feel wretched. You are wise to be patient with yourself and not push.

I am doing Easter and haven't even begun to prepare.

My cat is having toilet issues again and defecated on the bed of all places.  We have a cleaning lady who comes and I know she doesn't like the cat as she  is allergic (we hired her before we got the cat).  Every time she comes, the cat has this problem which drives my husband crazy and I have to retrain her and keep her in a small room with the litter box.   I am wondering now if she is scaring the cat when she comes.  It doesn't take much to scare this cat....she has had a troubled past and is neurotic.  She is so affectionate with me, however, so I know she is capable of trusting. I am actually afraid of the cleaning lady myself as she is loud and rough around the edges, but she does a darn good  job of cleaning this house!  I need to mull this over.  The problem is complicated  in that she really does not speak or understand English to the point we could get to the bottom of  it.

Well, that was a long story.  It is clear I am avoiding the whole Easter issue.  Have a good one.

Susan - I had to kind of giggle when I read about the "scary" cleaning lady, although I know it wasnt' funny to find cat doody on the bed.

Wendy - thanks for the heads up re: jobs :)  Much appreciated!!

hi to Rita, Mich101, Jackie, Laura, Carol - and everyone else too!

Susan....you have it exactly....your cat is made nervous by the cleaning lady and it is one of the few ways that the cat can express this.  It is a realm dilemma since you have communications problems with the cleaning lady.  Even if you could talk to her more she probably still would not understand that the kitty is THAT sensitive.  She will only see that it IS a BAD cat and than humor YOU rather than see it as a problem.

Cats and dogs as well are very, very intuitive and know when they are being regarded as a nuisance or not liked, or ignored and disliked....whatever the case may be.  Not easy to fool them or in this case arouse a sense of in-security.  Good luck.

    Hugs,

    Jackie

    Hi all,

I haven't posted in awhile, I went back to work this week and probably will be on here occasionally.   I made it through an entire week!   YEAH!   I am tired out though.   I could tell my energy level was not there and I couldn't concentrate as well but I guess it will get better with time.   I am looking forward to the weekend.   I wish it would quit raining!

You all make me laugh.  We talk about about throwing shoes at husbands, cats freaking out the cleaning ladies, lamb cakes with special surprises, in-laws and outlaws, constipation, drugs of all kinds, over-zealous gardeners, wigs and hairi-dos and don'ts, store mishaps, peep spas and making scenes at airports with dogs and escalators...  Man, this is better than a soap on TV.   HAHA.  It is great we can all talk about life in an informal manner.   You all are great and I think therapeutic too!
