Well...I am back. It looks like what my oncologist is doing is right on target. They wouldn't change a thing. She was very informative. There really isn't too much more I can do. Just keep getting chemo and hope it works. Once this chemo I am on doesn't work then it is on to a new one. I guess it is in a lot of differnt places in my bones and in a lymph node in my left armpit. We asked about diet and stuff like that. She basically said eating a good diet is a good thing and not really worry about losing weight as that really won't make a difference as it is already in the bones. So that was pretty disinheartening. I just sucks that there really is anything else to do but chemo and then radiation when I start having bone pain. She said just take a multi-vitamin. Try to avoid soy in concentrated forms. I shouldnt take any anti-oxidants as they interfere with the chemo. We are glad we went down there and confirmed that we are doing everything we can do at this point. I start my second round of chemo on Sunday...
We had a great time in Florida. It was perfect weather the whole time. Didn't really spend too much time at the beach as we were pretty busy. My son and his wife had a great honeymoon. They went to Gatlinburg and stayed in a cabin in the mountains.
Well..I really should get to bed..

Ginny, we met for dinner tonight and missed you. Since I hadn't heard from you, I assumed you were still in Texas. I'll call with the info on the next get-together. How are you feeling after the first round of this chemo? I was so hoping that they'd come up with another solution for you. Hugs! You have been in my thoughts every day. Give me a call when you get settled back in and we'll chat a bit. Is this second round of chemo in pill form, too?
Love ya.....Rita

Good morning everyone....oh my goodness. What a wild ride last night turned out to be. I was up so many times....the thunder boomed right next to my head it seemed.....and a couple times the dogs started barking immediately after. I don't feel I slept much. It's going to be some day and I bet I'll be dozing through this evening quite a bit.
Ginny, you sound like you have a good handle on what to do. Big discussion here several times about anti-oxidants. Florida sounds like it was wonderful but then it was such a wonderful reason to be there. I may be able to get back later.
Have a good day though we will likely see some more storms. Yikes !!!
Hugs,
Jackie

No Susan, I have not finsihed the book and am putting it on hold as it is too heavy and thought provoking for me at this time!! This would be my second time reading it and each time it is different in meaning and that i am in a different place!!! I considered myself a recovering Catholic!!!! Raised and such as Catholic but so much of it was full of bad memories and alot of fear, shame and guilt for me!
Doin better. Goin for a massage a friend is sharng with me. Then lunch and home and rest. Tomm i am goin to try a 5k race for a children;s cause we have goin from church. It is at 8am and that is where i am my strongest as i rise at 5:30. If it becomes too much, i stop!
Days 2-8 were my down days this round. Hope i get stronger daily until #3.
Happy Mother;s DAY!!!!
Hugs,
Donna

Good morning everyone,
Ginny, just want u to know I'm thinking of you as you begin this round of tx
Mom is being released from hospital today, they finally got her into sinus rythm after 11 days. She has to follow up every 3 days, so it's a watch & see thing.
Speaking of Mom's, I want to wish everyone a Happy Mother's Day (early). We are having MIL & Gammy over tomorrow for dinner, and then Sunday we will go see my Mom.
I passed the tests for the Transcriptionist job yesterday; formal interview is next week - so we'll see!!
Hi to everyone else - it's looking to be a lovely day outside today.
Take care - Juliet

Hey Jackie, we had some of those thunder-boomers, too last night and it's been dreary, cooler, foggy and misty most of the day. The sun is just starting to peak through. I didn't sleep much last night either but it wasn't the storms. I was just wound up and couldn't get myself calmed down.
Juliet....I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is the job for you. Good luck with the interview! :-)
Ah Donna, that massage sounds so good! I'm hoping that #3 will be kinder on you!!!!
I want to wish all of you a Happy Mother's Day! My kids should be in soon!
Hugs to all of you!

Well, I only made it to page 275. I still have 8 more to go. I keep swearing I won't let it go this long before I read, and yet I do. There's so much going on here.... I'll read the next 8 pages after I drop my daughter at her friend's house...
my heart became so very heavy when I saw Ginny's reoccurrence story. Ginny, my tears fall for you. While I know emotions run rampant, your mind-set is fantastic. I'm sending prayers and healing thoughts to you! Chemo so sucks and I'm sorry you have to do it again. Hang in there.
Rita: I'm here, I'm here! Thank you for looking out for me!
Rita, Laura, EVERYONE: you are not imagining pain. NONE OF US ARE. We are just all scared. Pains we do not understand hurt much more until we have an answer for them! (I have them too, writing them down to tell the doc at my next appointment (then losing my notes) which isn't until end of June. I don't know if I can wait that long. I've put on SO MUCH weight since my thyroid has been massacred, but the endocrine doc laughs at me. By June, I'll bet to have gained 40 lbs.)
WendyTY - hey there chicky, how's the hair coming?
WendyK - I have a GREAT NEW MOUSE STORY for you, I'll tell ya when I get back on later.
Laura: Lunch was great I was sad it had to end! Told my uncle (lives in LZ) about our lunch & your car & how WICKED it sounded when you did a little pedal to cross the lanes, he said (he couldn't remember exactly when it was) that he stopped and talked to an iddy biddy blond muscling a black GTO with seemingly open headers.... I said it HAD to be you. How the h*ll many petite blonds are there in LZ romping in a black GTO like THAT? Answer: JUST ONE!
Call me stupid, what does PCP (doc) stand for? The kind I'm thinking of sure would make all our pains go away even for if only for a little while...
mommaQ - I would also ask about taking tamox if you are having your ovaries out, it is my understanding that when you are past menopause or ovaries removed, tamox is not as effective as other meds out there such as AIs
JulieB - love your Beaker Avatar - so sorry to hear about your friend. It is a living nightmare for sure. I am prone to terrible headaches, Perhaps the headaches are partly allergies which have been running rampant and certainly stress, especially about your friend.
SusanZap - I don't think the obsession over symptoms ever goes away. And why should it? We are responsible for our health & speaking up when something feels wrong. Each and every one of us here should not feel foolish about telling the doctor something feels wrong.
Donna: My scalp hurt for quite some time. It started hurting again after the hair got rolling on growing back in. And don't apologize about your hair. I too had a major problem with mine comning out. I STILL have a problem with it. It's about 4" but I'm not satisfied. I want it where it was.
To all of you doing treatment - Hang Tough! The sun will be much brighter when they are done.

Hi gals - just popping in to say hi. I haven't been able to catch up on the posts.
Heading to MI tonight to put in the boat. Woo Hoo! Looking forward to some relaxation.
Thinking of you Ginny as you head to TX.
Little C - PCP stands for Primary Care Physician. Basically your regular doc!
Hope all you gals going through surgery and chemo are doing ok!

Ginny - I am so happy to read that you are getting the right care here in Illinois. That makes things so much easier. You've been through ALOT! Hang in there.... lots of girls here have read the book titled The Cancer Diet... if you haven't read it... you might want to. I really believe that diet has ALOT to do with keeping us healthy. Traditional Drs are not versed/educated to advise patients of this well known fact.
PJuliet - I'm glad Mom is stable... Good luck with the job! Who wouldn't want to hire you!
Rita - Have a great weekend with your kids! Please post some pics! I don't know who's luckier... you or them!
Donna - A massage - that's great... I am a sucker for a massage! lol Hang in there... you just have to be patient. I know it's difficult, but YOU CAN DO IT!
Jackie - Hope you get some sleep tonight! Sweet dreams, girl!
LittleC - Glad you checked in... AND yes... it was great lunching with you. Like I said before here... you and I didn't shut up for a second! We have to do that more often... we REALLY are neighbors. Too funny... about your Uncle! OMG - that is so ironic. You're right... it had to have been me! lol Lots of guys approach me and ask questions about the engine when I'm at a gas station or 7-11 or where ever! I always talk to them...it's fun to answer their questions. And I PURPOSELY floored it when I left you... lol - Glad you heard me! lol Hope all is well with your dental issues... you looked great, I loved your "poncho".
JulieB - Hope the headaches are GONE!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone - Have a great weekend... luv ya all!

Laura, Heard you? I was watching & waiting when you pulled out, knew it was coming.. It was the most beautiful sound I've heard in a long time.... hee hee
conniehair: duh me. I knew that, I just couldn't think of the words. thank you!

LOL LOL LOL0

Morning all....I have been awake for hours - jeesh, that wind! Talk about howling! Who can sleep thru that????
Juliet - glad Mom is OK and she's in NSR. Dh has been too since September and going on flecainide. Good luck with the job!
Laura - for some reason when I pictured your car, I pictured it dark green, not black!
Ginny - sorry that you didn't get any new suggestions but I am glad that your tx is the correct one and that they agreed. How are you feeling on the xeloda?
Rita - have fun with your family this weekend and yes, pics please!
Little C - yes, I do need to hear the new mouse story! Unfortunately, weight gain is a very common se of thyroidectomies. As long as you are healthly, try not to worry about it.
Smerf - where you at? Laura, send out the search light!
Hope you all have a great weekend and a great Mom's Day!

Oh what a beautiful morning -- mainly. Wendy, I spent the night before not sleeping.
So much **booming amid lightning strikes. This would make Boss un-settled so at the loudest ones he would bark....couple of the outdoor dogs did as well. I was done in yesterday and last night --- so thanks Laura...I did well last night. Boss woke me up this a.m. He is lucky to still be with us for that little trick ---- but probably saved me for getting TOO much sleep and the icky feelings that comes when you do.Not sure what is on for today.....I was due to work out on the other side of the lake but don't know how things are going there. I was too swamped with weather and other things to go out to see where things stood.
Got a spot on my foot....top- back by the ankle. I think it's infected. Going to try maybe and get some local advice on what to soak my foot with and see if I can draw most of it out. I don't have the time or money to go to Marion and they too were hard hit with the storm ( a whole lot more with downed trees --- loss of power etc. ) than we were. In fact, hate to say I don't think we got much for wind here....just the light show and booming drum rolls. It's starting to bother me so I need to do something.
I too hope you all have a fantastic Mom's Day. Dh has to work --- he took a younger gals day as she wanted off and they did not give it to her so she pitched a fit....so Dh agreed to switch days off with her. I don't mind....we never did anything anyway so it's not a big deal for us.....even if we did more --- sssshhhhh, we are old enough to make concessions without feeling as though we have had something taken away from us.
I'll be checking in later and hope all is going well with all of you....and those that had a storm-wakeful night last night....hope you are able to take a little nap or otherwise rest a bit thru the day.
Hugs,
Jackie

Morning everyone.....how did you all like that nasty weather last night, howling wind, rain and thunder oh my....It was good to cuddly up at home and listen to it. I have been under the weather with this thyroid problem. They found multinodules on it and I am very concerned. Has anyone had multi nodules on their thyroid and not have any issues? I still have the pain and burning in my throat so Monday I am being scoped to see if there are any more issues there. I hope they can resolve this really soon. I am getting pretty tired of all this s**t. I am having my own pity party about all this crap. Sorry I need to be on the water soon. I am hoping that the weather gets better soon and then on the boat I go. As Jackie tells me the water is my calm...and yes she is right about that.
Jackie...how is that new stove ...I bet you are cooking up a storm lol
Rita....your babies are way to cute....thanks for sharing your pics. Yesterday I had my first golf lesson with dh. Was not to bad..but need to find a cute outfit for the course.lol I really do need lots of practice hitting the ball straight. Vegas trip soon for you!!
Laura...enjoying the Las Vegas glass. Cosmos taste yummy in it.
Wendy...no tops down today uh. Thanks for everything you are the best
Connie...I hope you have great weather for boating. Your dd looked soo beautiful in her dress. Little brides to be.
Little C...hope you are feeling better soon to. sent you a pm.
Juliet..glad to hear that your mom is getting better. good luck on the job front.
Susan..count down for you until retirement. then let the parting begin. lol
Donna /buddy/lisa....hope you all are resting and feeling better.
To everyone else I missed in tx hope you all are doing well and resting.
Happy Mother's Day to all of you !!! Enjoy your families and hug the one's you love.
Remember to be healthy...be happy

I have used this quote once before....but I love it so much I'm putting it back.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Little C: Great post! Good to hear from you. I think weight gain has to be connected to BC meds. I blame them but I also take responsibility for bad eating habits. I blame work on that! lA lot less eating and more exercising would work in my favor over the blaming on other things! I am out of shape! We have our annual 8th grade bike trip from school to the Botanic Gardens through the woods on Monday. I hope I can keep pace (actually, I have to). This annual bike trip brings back bittersweet memories. Two years ago I was glad for the bike helmet as it kept my wig on! I was also sorta breathless due to the completion of radiation and chemo. Of course my team would have let me off the hook, but I was still mad as heck with cancer so I never gave it a thought to remain back with the behavior kids. Anger is what got me through a lot. I would not suggest to others to choose that path! I was able to do the 12-mile round trip bike trip with the and I was glad about that. Think about me around 9:00 am on Monday as the games begin then!
Well, the gang comes on Sunday for a barbecue. We got the baby swing for our tree. I am so
excited about this baby swing.
Julie, I am glad your mom is out of the hospital. You are such a good daughter

I just read BlackJack's post after I wrote mine. I do not know about the thyroid but one of my friends had thyroid cancer and she was just fine within a short period. She was back tecahing and told me that thyroid cancer is very curable. Of course, you probably don't even have that, but worse case scenario.....she was fine. Are you hoarse? She was hoarse and that led her toa doctor. I wish you well!
Susan

Susan...I am not hoarse just have a lot of pain in my throat. It feels like a big lump in there.
So we will see. I am not going down that bc road just yet. Need to get the esophagus throat scope done first then move on to the thyroid. Thanks for your prayers. I hope you enjoy your bike ride Monday. Happy Mother's Day to you. Thank you for the cute video. It was a great surprise.

Good morning Gals, I just came from our Osco-Jewl. They had a huge rack of bandana's and dew rags for $1.50 each. They are on the Osco side near make up, if anyone is interested.

Blackjack:
I did not mean to imply any negative vibes on the thyroid. I sent you a pm.
I especially thought of you today as my younger daughter went to Lake Geneva for the weekend. Her girlfriend's parents purchased an absolutely lovely home on the lake. The weather is not great, but they still plan on having a cozy time there. Her girlfriend just broke up a relationship and so my daughter will help her sort through emotions and all that goes with a breakup. My daughter is a wonderful listener and quite wise, so I hope she can help. Pretty soon you will be on that lake with calm waters and sunshine. My teacher friend's parents (she is much younger than I am) also have a home there. It is a wonderful place. We are planning to go to Waupaca, Wisconsin as the rentals are far more affordable (like three times less). Happy Mother's Day to you.
Susan

Happy Mother's Day to all the lovely mom's!
Blackjack-Hope you are feeling better soon and get some answers. Enjoy the lake!
Susan-I'll need to check out Waupaca Wisc-I'm still looking for a cheap, less than a week vacation/getaway before the summer ends, and the boys go off to college. Not sure yet if we'll be able to do it or not.
Bustersmom- Wishing you good luck on the transciptionist job!
Everyone-have a great day! Thanks for being my support!

Hello Illinois ladies!
This is my first time posting (I just joined). I met some of you at dinner on Thursday, but am just now getting to this site.
Thank you for the invitation to dinner and for getting a group of survivors together. I look forward to making close, life-long friends in this group of wonderful ladies!
0 -
Welcome Kim. So glad you decided to come and spend time with us. It is a wonderful group full of fun and laughter ( we are quite serous when it's needed as well ) and there is always room for more here. Many of us are through our txs, some are in the middle, just finishing and a couple starting......so you will be a part of all that goes on. In a short while you will get to see and know us all by name.
I am on here a lot as I try everyday to find a nice quote for our group....makes me feel like I actually contribute something.
As it's Mom's Day tomorrow.....some of the regular posters may be a little quiet today....or quite a few have already posted but they all will want to meet you and say hello so if it seems a bit slow at first, please don't give up.
Hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow whatever you do.....
Hugs,
Jackie

Hi Kim! Welcome! I'm so glad you found us! Wendy, I, and another of my friends (Mary Jane from this thread) walked in the Peoria Walk today. What an inspiring sight! They anticipated raising over one million dollars from this walk. It was really coincidental. There were thousands of survivors there and during the survivor walk, Angie, who was sitting by me at the dinner, was just in front of us with her group! It was so nice to meet you Thursday night! Come and post often.
Everyone has headed to bed and I am beat but I wanted to hop on and catch up. Have a great Mother's Day! I'll try to post some pictures of the walk and my family later this week.
