    Hello Ladies,

I am so excited, I finally found you !  I have been searching for days.  Thank you Rita and Donna for helping to locate you.

First and most important, I must say thank you for taking me under your wing on a very special and emotional day.  Walking over to the park alone I wished that I had someone to share the day with and low and behold there you were in force.  You touched my heart and it shall never be forgotten; I felt truly blessed all day.  You all were indeed heaven sent!!!!

I plan on catching up on the treads and so very much look forward to learning more about my angels from "No Surrender"

I hope everyone is having a good day !!

    Warm regards, Victoria

Sido....welcome.  We wish no one ever had to come find us, but when you do our arms and hearts are open to you.  As all have said  --  you can do this.  I dare say the majority, if not all of us, had very ambivalent feelings about our txs ( treatments ).  Chemo always did seem the worst of anything that can and did happen.  As Rita ( she too is a former teacher ) said, the anticipation sends you into such a tailspin....only to generally find the first tx is anti-climatic.  They are though cumulative so each time can bring some se ( side effect ) and usually each time takes just a little bit longer than the one before.  This is what it takes ( even if you wonder about it now and then going through it ) and what you need to do to save your own life.  Not great, but a few months --- out of your whole life time span.    I think pretty much to a person all of us would willingly do this again if need be  ---  as un-pleasant as it was for a few of us.

We will be here to do whatever we can to help you move through this period in your life.  It ends up being far easier to go through all of this with others who have been through it too.

WELCOME also to Victoria.  So glad you were able to find this thread and hope you will come  here a lot.  This is such a wonderful group of women.  They were my rock ( I had never been on a blog before and didn't know how to do it ) when I was first diagnosed and going through treatment.  They still are my rock.  Whenever ( not nearly so much now but once in a while ) I feel a little down, temporarily scared again, or out of sorts over still having to run all over for tests ) I just put a picture in my mind of the very large cheering section I have.  I know they are full of optimism and strength and are sending me all of it I can use with every breath they take.  I do the same for them.....always remember their is help and safety in numbers so use us all when you need too....whenever you need too.

For any of the new ladies.....you could if you like put this thread in you bookmarks or favorites.  Those exact words I think are somewhere in the upper toolbar, and it is an easy way to be able to access this particular ( Illinois Ladies Facing Bc ) part of the thread without going to BC.Org first and going in that way.  It is just a suggestion as I had trouble at first ( daily it seemed ) finding the thread everyday.  All of you may have already done this.  You can still get to anything else you are looking for on BC. Org right from your bookmark or favorite.

Hope you all are having a fantastic, if cool day.  Sprinkled for a while this a.m.  Probably more coming.....See you all.

    Hugs and happy thoughts,

    Jackie

Oh Victoria!  You found us!!!!  I'm so happy you did and that you decided to join us!  You will have so much to offer the new gals and are such a sweetie!  I'm certainly glad that we found you!

Susan, so glad the surprise arrived.  Everyone needs a surprise once in a while!  Thanks again for opening your home and your heart to us after the walk.  I hope all your upcoming plans go smoothly.  Is Paul feeling better?  I'm so very sorry to hear about your friend's colon cancer.  I will keep him in my prayers.  My prayer list seems to be growing each day.

Hey Buddy....you've about got those rads kicked now!  In just a couple of days, you'll be a RAD GRAD!  Good for you!

Well I've had a full day so I need to get on my back machine and then find a nice warm place to snuggle up!  It was darn cold here today!

    Hugs to all of you!

Morning All!  Sunny and 56 right now on the deck, but rain is moving in for the afternoon....

Connie....congrats on the weight loss!  It really is amazing, isn't it, when you stop eating all the fun junk and start eating healthy, that you lose weight so easily.  But, sad to say, twinkies still taste better than celery!  Hope you are able to make it today, but we understand!  We'll just eat extra pasta for you....

Budders....almost there, almost done!  YAY!!!!!!!!!!  Sorry you got an infection tho....

Susan...so sorry about your friend.  And yes, Rita, my list is growing too.  Is there really so much cancer around, or do we just notice it more these days????

Ginny....how are you doing?  How was Myrtle Beach?

MammaQ....looking forward to meeting you today!

Victoria....glad you found us!  And now for us girls who weren't at the walk...could you tell us a bit about yourself?  Hopefully you can come to one of our lunch-bunch lunches/dinners soon...and reserve 12/5 (I think that's the date - the first Sat in December) for our 2nd Annual Christmas Get-Together (details will follow)

Not much going on around here...just our monthly lunch-bunch today.  And we are going to try out a new restaurant (new to us anyway) for lunch tomorrow with a couple of friends.  And then of course....football all day on Sunday!

Hugs to all....hope everyone is doing as well as you can...Happy Friday!

    Hi all,

Hope you are all having a great Friday.  We had brief periods of rain yesterday and a fierce wind today that seems to be keeping it pretty cool.  Hope it gets a little better for the week-end.  This is going to start those old leaves coming out of the trees early.....as if we didn't seem to have a fair start already.  Not liking the idea of oiling up the blowers for several weeks of removing leaves off our acre of property.  Doesn't seem like much till we start having to do all that......then the size gets quite large.  Sigh !!!!  Glad I love the country.

I second Wendy and would like to know more about the new ladies.  If you are like the rest of us, we are all going to be friends for a long time.  I left a friend quote up above me.  That is what I do here on a daily basis, so if you like quotes....there is a daily installment from me.

    See you all later.

    Hugs, Jackie

SIDO - Welcome...I'm sorry about your diagnosis. And I'm sorry you will be needing chemo. Some gals breeze through it...hopefully that will be the case with you. Hang in there...please check in often. We'll help you through it all. If you haven't already done so - you should consider joining a chemo thread here in the Chemo forum. Best wishes to you.

Victoria - I'm so glad you found us! I had posted a few days ago, that I was worried you were having problems finding us. I'm glad the girls reeled you in. It's great that we met you at the walk! How ironic...huh?

Budder - So are you down to 1 RAD left?

Rita - It's so nice of you to go to chemo with that woman...you have a heart of gold!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

I'm really disappointed that I couldn't make the lunch bunch. I think I had some food poisoning last night and then a good portion today. Pepto B helped, but I have been in and out of bed all day. It's been a really BORING day.

I'm curious how the lunch bunch went. I think it was a small group. JanClare cld and left me a message - she felt the flu coming on and didn't want to infect anyone.

Okay, we are bummed with the Olympic city decision. Our guests  were here when the announcement was made (they are from Boston).  It truly came as a surprise.  I was preparing  to take my grandchild to the Olympics...may just do that....Brazil could be a good destination spot. That trip. however, will most NOT likely happen.... we were disappointed.

I am sorry that so few ladies were able  to do the lunch today.  I too feel something odd coming on. I wonder if the change of weather is doing something. Rita, Paul is better.  He went back to the doctor in his frustration and she said that he must ride it out.  He has been hoarse for over two weeks.  He is  concerned that some damage has occurred.  As a lawyer, like a teacher, he relies on his voice to communicate and  get the job done.   I am certain he will be okay, but it has been frustrating for him.

    Have a great weekend!

Good morning BF's  Happy Saturday!!!  Laura I am so sorry you were sick,  that must have been awfull.  I cant believe how little Paulie has grown.  He is precious.  I just want to pick him up and hug him.

I am getting rads on teh entire half of my chest, nect underarm, neck and upper back.  I am having terrible pain on my ribs.  There is not alot of meat there since the mascetomy,  It feels like bruised ribs.  Did anyone else experience this. It hurts very bad.  I have lost almost 1/4 of my skin.  I am looking forward to my last one.

Well I'm off to the Dentist.  The kids are thrilled.(ha ha )

Good morning everyone.  Buddy I had little problem with rads  --   which I think was the case for many, but you do sound like you may need the Oncologist to look at your rib area and see what is going on.  I must say, trooper that you have been, it seems for you if it could go wrong it did.  I just would make someone give you some sort of answer and help.

Paulie is an adorable ( hugable, kissable ) little guy Laura.  My problem is that describes at least 99 percent or more of the worlds' dogs and cats too.  He does make a picture come alive.

Donna -- so glad the tumor you had removed for Daisy turned out benign.  Hopefully in a couple of days she will be fairly comfortable again.  It is interesting ( though sometimes it is the food and treats we give them ) that dogs and cats get so many of the afflictions we do.

Hope you are all looking for a nice Fall week-end.  I have lots to do today but did sleep in an it sure felt wonderful.  See you all later.

    Hugs, Jackie

he best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.

OMG, Jackie.  I taught Diary of Anne Frank nearly every year and never tired of her quiet wisdom.  The students simply adored that unit.  This quote is so perfect.  As many may know, young Anne was in hiding for two years.   Her only contact with outdoors for two years was through a skylight on the roof and she never was able to climb through that skylight.  Great quote.

Cute story, Donna.  It is good you are amidst little ones.  I loved subbing in fourth grade last week.  A few hugged me when I went home. The eighth  graders do not do that! Then again, maybe one of those hugs brought on this bug I have.  I am going to tthe wedding as I actually feel okay now  after lots of sleep.

    Have a good weekend!

Buddy I did have some pain in ribs during my rads,  Read somewhere where it is from muscles that tighten up.  They warned me to keep my arm and shoulder limbered up because those muscle tighten up too and can freeze your shoulder up.  I had regular rads over my whole right side, neck and under arm.  They are trying to make sure so stray cancer cells left anywhere.  Only had skin breakdowns where there were folds in skin , underarm and under breast.  During boost just at the incision site.  It sounds like you have a whole lot more.  The PA in the rad onc office looked at me each week to check on skin.  Are the checking you that often.  They asked that I only use biafine and I did and it worked great.  What are they haveing you use on this big sore area?  If they are not looking at it on a regular basis have someone look at it tomorrow.

Off to Auburn just outside Springfield today to watch 2 youngest grandkids play soccer.  Their games are usually on Sat and we miss them, because since husband has retired he bakes and sells bread and bagels at a booth at the Urbana Farmers Market on Saturday mornings.  They did a write up on him in the News-Gazette (Champaign Newspaper) and  he has been overwhelmed with customers.  Sold 63 dozen bagels and 110 loaves of bread in less than 4 hours after the article came out.  His bagels are made New York style  boiled and baked like  they are supposed to be made instead of steamed and baked which is what you find at Panera, etc. The booth keeps us busy from 6 to 12 on Sat., so we are looking forward to seeing grandkids play today and then going back to house to see them and big sister for a while.  Hope the weather is a little warmer than yesterday was.  Hope everyone has a good day today.  Hugs  Annette

Annette, It sounds like you're getting on with your "new normal!"  Isn't it good???  I also think that your bagels and bread business sound great.  Do you make a variety of breads?

Laura...love the picture of Paulie!  He's a cutie!

Hey Donna....loved your story!  I always felt that the kids kept me feeling young!  You never know what they are going to say or do so it keeps you on your toes!  Hope your aches and pains have disappeared.

Hugs to all of you on this cool but sunny Sunday.  I think that Fall is rapidly moving right into winter around here and that doesn't please me at all!  In the meantime, I need to quit moaning and do a Wal-Mart run.  We're about out of all the important things!

    Have a great day!

Hi ladies - just quickly checking in to say hi!  I too am not happy about this weather.

Buddy - I had some rib pain during rads also.  It went away after awhile.  Also, if no one has mentioned this yet - I found that my skin cleared up very quickly after rads was over.  I was so surprised because I thought it would be raw for awhile - within a week or so your skin will be feeling so much better.  So glad you are almost done.

Elf - cute story about your dh's haircut.

    Well, gotta run!  Hugs!

    OH NO! WHERE'S WENDREW?

Susan - I'm sure the christening was lovely!  I am so sorry about your friend...

Donna - TOO FUNNY! Kids say the darndest things! Hope your pooch is feeling better.

Budders - I STILL have occasional rib pain...try not worry. Give it the two week rule. You're almost a rad grad! WOO HOO FOR YOU!

Jackie - Thanks for the great quotes!

Nana - Best wishes to you - hope you make lots of dough! Get it? When I was 22 I dated an Italian guy whose father owned an Italian bakery! OMG - it was great! He had an apartment above the bakery. In the middle of the night we would go downstairs and fill Canolie shells with that custard mixture,,,bake a loaf of bread and run back upstairs and monge! It was great...the perfect midnight snack!

MAMAQ - I am so sorry to not have met you! Darn...I hope you can join us for the next one!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

I am feeling almost 100% normal. Dang...that sucked!   I too...am hating this weather!

I read somewhere that the "Y" is offering free 10 week memberships for survivors...just FYI!

    HAVE A GREAT MONDAY!

    Happy Sunday!

My DH and I are going to Chicago next weekend for my birthday and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good pre-chemo shopping in the city. It's like a whole new category! Not as much fun as shoes though. I'm originally from Los Angeles and need a serious dose of urbanity every so often.

Morning!  Dark and 42 on the deck this morning....sunny today, rain tomorrow.  Some snow for Wednesday....

Laura....I'm here!  Just nothing interesting to add this weekend!  BUT....was watching some landscape program on HGTV and they were ripping out...buckthorn!!!!  Also...I saw that Elfsong's DH was raised in Hawthorn Woods!  Small world....and glad you are back to almost normal.

Donna....kids do say the darnedest things, don't they?????

    Elfsong.....cute story about your kids!

Karin...yes...where the heck are you?????  You posted on FB and I replied but haven't heard back from you there either!  Hope you are just busy and enjoying life!

Annette....yum!  I love bagels...just plain ones with lots of cream cheese!  And nothing, but nothing smells as good as bread baking!

Sido....Happy Birthday in advance!  I can't help you much with the shopping as I don't know exactly where you will be in the city.  I confess...most of my clothes come from Kohl's, with side-trips to TJ Maxx and Marshall's...I just can't beat those deals that they have!  Tell us where you will be going and I know these girls will have stores for you!

Blackjack....did you get up N yesterday?  Weather wasn't too bad.....

The Budster.....I too still have rib pain and it's been over 2 years.  Sometimes if I reach funny I get these zinger-like pains that last only a second or two but wow!  They sure hurt!  Surgeon blames radiation, rad onc blames surgery.  It's not at all bad, but I do know that I had something done!

Not much going on this week...see the BS tomorrow for a yearly check, blood draw on Wed. to check my pokey thyroid.  Need to swing by the library as my books are due and need to pick up stickers for 2 of our cars...oh, and need to return shoes for DH who has decided he doesn't want them after all.  And need to start putting away the outside stuff....count me in as someone who isn't liking the cold weather.  The leaves are beautiful but I need to go from fall directly back to spring, with a slight snow on Christmas eve.

Speaking of snow....did anyone see my weather report?  Just checking to see if you girls are awake today.....LOL

    Good Morning Girls.

Wendy Thank you so much.  I was getting so scared.  Sometimes your imagination can take off and you can start to think too much.

I also see the Plastic surgeon today.

I cant believe its my last Rad day.....................I thought this day would never get here.

Thank you  all for your support.

    Love Buddy
