Great quote, Jackie! How appropriate!
I hope everyone is having a good day. I've done the major grocery shopping so I'll be ready to get the salads made up tomorrow. Hey Rene, I think I'm about 12 too! I love the holidays!

Just popping in to say Thanksgiving is lovely BUT A HECK OF A LOT OF WORK. We are having 12 with two high chaired guests who will sit quietly for perhaps ten minutes. I am sure it will be fine and memorable and chaotic. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

500 Pages and after this post we'll only need 20 more posts to total 15,000! That's a lot of support! Wow!

FIRST THANKSGIVING.
If I had been a Pilgrim child
Among the fields and forests wild
Where deer and turkey used to roam,
A cabin would have been my home
With fireplace and earthen floor
And bearskins hanging at the door.I would have gathered berries bright
For candles fragrantly alight,
And dug for clams and picked the corn
And laid the table smooth and worn.
Or hunted nuts hard-shelled and good
And helped in any way I could,
With time to laugh and play and run
When Indian children came for fun.And on the first Thanksgiving Day
I would have met with friends to pray
And thank the Lord for all his care
In keeping us together there.~~By Margaret Hillert.~~

WOW~~ 500 pages... AMAZING~~
I had another restless night.. My LE is better and now it's only wrist and hand.. If you don't have LE please try your best to NOT to get LE.. I developed year after my surgery.. I asked my BS but he didn't agree at that time but look what happened.. it was LE, darn it... My Onco was more concerned for me to getting LE than my BS and Onco sent me to therapy.. it hurts like you know what.. I am not as bad as others but it hurts and it will affects your daily lives..
Jackie- I see you now~~~ You r best avatar EVER... thanks for the quote everyday.. another good one..
A lot of people are heading to holiday party.. I am still working on it.. btw, how's the grab bag works?? (We used to sell grab bags when I was working at the Hello Kitty store, what a fun memories.. I did get some free stuff, which I saved in case I have daughter but that didn't happen..)
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everybody~~ and Thanks for being here for me and for us.. love you all~!!!

The first Thanksgiving is the perfect thought for today. Thanks for posting.
Elf: What is LE?
I went to a Lympodema therapist yesterday. Will have to call my insurance as the different tapes, bandages are suppose to be very costly and you have to bring with you? Anyone know how much? They want me in every day to have my arms wrapped. My husband will have to come twice to see how to do it on the weekends. Because I cant order compression sleeves until the swelling comes down. Sigh
I saw a blurb at the car dealer on msn about the various drug shortages. Here is the FDA's complete list:
http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/DrugShortages/ucm050792.htm
And to each and every one of us, have a blessed Thanksgiving. For no matter what we are going through, there are blessings each day if you look. Happy Thanksgiving!

Onward LE is short for Lymphodema. I did get sleeved for flying. I was fitted at a place at Rush. They sold me the jobst ones. I absolutely love the ones here but the gauntlets don't seem as good as the jobst ones: http://store.lymphedivas.com/store/pc/home.asp
So what's the grab bag about? What kinds of things do you folks get? I'm really planning on attending the party. Just hope the weather cooperates. Do you guys dress casual. I'm one of those who wears jeans all the time. I know Pompei is not fancy.
I'm getting pretty excited for turkey. Granted I won't be spending this year with my family. Being right in the middle of treatment I did not want to be on a plane with sick kids etc. Also we have been celebrating at my sisters for the past few years since my mom just can't do it anymore. My sister and I still haven't spoken since 1 week after my BMX and I sent her home. Actually I haven't heard from my brother-in-law, niece and nephew since then either.
My husband cooks great turkey. He makes the entire dinner. I do like turnip though. I'm miss mom's turnip but they will all miss his turkey ;-)

Good morning everyone! It looks rather dreary here this morning and rain is predicted for today and tomorrow. I'm making a quick stop on the thread to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the day in your own special way!
Susan, you're so right! There's lots of work to preparing the Thanksgiving meal and getting ready for family but the rewards are so great! I often wonder why I clean before they get here because within 15 minutes there's toys, bags, and clothes all over the place! LOL That's O.K. because my son and his family are my greatest blessings! I'm off to make the salads and get the beds ready and my little guys will be pulling in early this evening. If I get everything done, I'll probably be back to pester you some more!
Everyone have a good day!

Good Morning and a very Happy Thanksgiving to each of you !!!!!
Congratulations on the longevity and friendships and bonding created by this board.....so many thanks to Rita from all of us for creating this home !
I will celebrate (after my tests are all clear) my 2 year anniversary in just about a week . I try to get in and at least read the boards as often as I can to keep up with all thats going on , and recently was delighted to find a friend and a neighbor in Lisa . I hope that by working with women just like all of us for the last 2 years I have taken the cards I was dealt and done some good with them. It was an absolute delight to meet Donna when she had her last procedure at my surgical home.
This is a season of joy and of blessings and of memories of things that have come and gone , a time of looking to the future with faith and trust of many good times to come.....have a wonderful holiday whatever you do . I consider myself to be a part of this wonderful group each and every day !
Love to all

I live in Chicago and just completed my second Chemo session. Noticed lots of hair coming out this morning and I'm surprisingly OK with the hair loss. Anyone living in the city going through Chemo right now? Always took my health for granted. Now I'm overjoyed when I wake up feeling good.

Helen I live in Lincoln Park. I'm being treated at Rush. Just had my 3rd chemo last Tuesday.I just sent you a PM with my contact info.

Hi all:
Jackie, I wish I had an illustrated storybook with that poem First Thanksgiving) for my grand babies. I just love the images. I know you are are the quote person but I did find a quote in this book I am reading about a woman who survives Rwanda genocide and I thought it could fit into our common experience of cancer as it helped her during her ordeals.
"When we are no longer able to change a situation-----we are challenged to change ourselves."
Viktor Frankl
Have a glorious Thanksgiving. I must now face my challenge for the day which seems very doable.

Just stopping by to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving. Arrived here in Seattle yesterday and were greeted to record cold temps and snow. Unusal for here. We lived here for 4 years and only saw snow on the ground once. The city streets are packed with snow since they don't have any snow plow equipment, etc. Our son and his fiance are also here from Charlotte and they are "freezing". We will spend today having lunch with our daughter at her work place and head over to Pike Street Market for some shopping fun. It is just so fun to have the whole family together again and of course, especially spending time with our 6 year old granddaughter.
I am so looking forward to the holiday party and meeting more of you. I am so thankful for all of you who have been such a support with your encouragement, advice and sharing of personal experiences. BC has been a big life changer in so many ways. Thank you all for being HERE.

Yeah lime leave can not be eaten but it is only for the smell. Whenever I cook green pea with little bit of cooking soda in gravy I put lemon leaves. The flavor enhances our appetite.

Hi Jan,
How absolutely splendid you stopped in to see us. Was just thinking about you the past couple of days and almost sent you a pm.
Helengj, welcome to our thread. We are always sorry to welcome people ( we wish a cure made it un-necessary for anyone to come here ) but glad, as that is not the case as yet, that you found us and hope you will come often. We are good at hand-holding and helping to find answers when needed and some of us will just be here to be strong, loving, and understanding support for anything you might go through. There are many here, so always someone to talk too.
Susan.....that would make a good storybook, wouldn't it. Glad you liked it. And I love that quote.
It's pouring rain here today off and on but more on so far. Two days of it they say so it won't be so great tomorrow either. That is ok. One of the greatest things about being where many of us are is how REALLY ok you can be most of the time about things that really used to bother you before. I do hope it stops fro a bit later so I might get a change of feeding the feral cats. They can do ok with a loss of food for a bit ( bad weather etc. ) but I still like to try and get them something.
See you all later. Again Jan -- so very nice to hear from you.
Hugs, Jackie

Welcome Helen to our thread. Come often. I think you will find that everyone on this thread is very willing to help and listen. They are a fantastic group of gals!
Jan, so glad you stopped in! Have a very Happy Thanksgiving and come back more often. It was so good to see a post from you! I've missed you.
The salads are made, the beds are ready, and my kids are on the way! I still need to pick up some pies as I am not anything like Molly Homemaker and pies are not my thing.
I just looked out my office window and there is a big 10 point buck walking in my back yard along the creek. What an awesome sight!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Rita

Morning all! Wet and drippy and foggy out....but no snow or ice (now at least) for those of you who are driving today. We usually go to my nephew's just a few blocks away but this year things have changed and we are going to my sister's stepdaughter in Berwyn....there will be 27 people! WOW! We've never been there so have google-mapped it...we figure about 1hr and 15 min! BUT....the only thing I was asked to do was buy 5 pies from Bakers Square! Easy-peasy! Hard part was having to drive to Naperville for them as the ones in St Charles and South Elgin have closed.
Sounds like everyone will be having a nice holiday and since turkey is rather bland on its own I am hoping most of you will do ok with food today, even with chemo!
Rita...well, you made it all happen! Over 500 pages and 15,000 posts! Wow, girl...look at what you started!
Mich101...so happy to see a post from you! Hoping to see you on the 4th!
Jan....glad to see a post from you too! Looking forward to meeting you!
Elf....have steak, have canned soup, have cheerios for dinner! Just being together after all that has gone before will make you truly thankful and that is what it's all about...not the food...altho not many women would agree with that! LOL
Lago.....I am wearing jeans to the party as I do to most every place, with a nice sweater. I am looking for sparkle flats tho!
Oh...Elf...grab bag is STRICTLY OPTIONAL and is limited to $15. Just pick up something cute you think someone might like....scarf, gloves, a candle etc. And remember, this was just an idea...if your budget doesn't allow it, DO NOT BRING ANYTHING! Lunch at Pompeii can be quite inexpensive...like Laura said, about $10. will fill you up quite nicely! If you don't have much time or can't do that either....just grab a soft drink, or stop in the back room and say "hi!"
Jackie....I do love your quotes always but they have been right on the mark lately....
Marina...all done shopping???????? Wow. I am done as well except for my sister. I am totally out of ideas! But I will figure it out....
Everyone else....hope you are doing as well as you can. No matter where you are in treatment, be thankful for being here and for modern medicine and for all those in your life who love and support you. So raise a glass today ..... to LIFE !!!!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving all, may you all receive many blessings today.
My second taxol was spent with my 18 year old Sam who got to meet me Onc and liked him alot. He was a trooper. The center was busy and we ended up at the other side of the room next to an 18 year old senior from Elmhurst who was getting her first dose for hodgkins. We made it like a party for her. Told her since she too was getting a big dose of benedryl that the first one that fell asleep got a sharpee mustach. Than talking to her mom made me realize once again how blessed I feel that it was I and not my children.
For some reason, this week when I need it, the steroids did not kick in. So I am dragging my but to do the sweet potato's and leave the rest to my hubby. Last night had the kid just drop everything on my dining room table into a box, and will worry about it another day. Everytime I walk in there I am like oh yeah, I had a dining room table...
As far as celebrations, I have decided to do a large open house thank you party for everyone who has joined in making this cancer bareable. Yep, you guys will be most welcome as well. There are so many people that have done so much for me. And Lago, know that my brother and SIL will not be invited. I get a text every month saying hello..... We are lucky to be able to choose our friends. Off to do the potatos,
May you all have little or no side effects today. Happy Thanksgiving. Onward
