    Did you know that the Pilgrims probably did not have turkey for Thanksgiving… but did have lobster?

    Big Happy T - Day to everyone.  This is the place where I usually get smarmy and cry while I'm trying to write but not going to do that today.  I will just say I'm thankful for this thread and all of you and that my wish is that the peace of love and laughter will fill all of your hearts with the light and harmony of gratitude.  We have blessings daily though some days we have to look hard.

    I'm in awe of how far we have come and am waiting to see what the next 500 pages will bring.

    To all of you much love, hope, health, happiness, understanding and peace,.

    Blessings always,

    Hugs, Jackie

    Onward, the story about the 18-year old girl and how you made it less awful for her really got to me.  I just always am grateful it was  me and not my girls.  I know Hodgkins  is pretty curable now and I am sure her doctor told her that she would have to go through bad times for a little while and then all would be normal. I am glad you told me about that as it reminds me to be so grateful for health in my family.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all.  I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful day.  Wendy, that party is huge.  I sure hope they use paper plates!

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all of you beautiful ladies! I tried to catch up reading last night, and couldn't get through it all, so had to resort to skimming. I haven't been keeping up since my trip to NY in August, and the wedding there, but hope to do better now. That tree down on the roof of the house started me off in a house repair frenzy for awhile, not to mention all the kid stuff that came up. Whew! Better now.

    My greetings to all the new ladies in the group. You are most welcome, and I hope to meet some of you at the holiday lunch. To all in treatment, you know by now how supportive all the ladies here are, and full of good tips too! Even though I haven't been posting my thoughts are with you all each and every day.

    Laura, your turkey pic cracked me up. Love it!

    Wendy, I love your family! Pies from Baker's Square even I could do! I'm the worst baker, and my daughter makes pumpkin pie from scratch, starting with the pumpkin. Where did she come from??? And you are so right....it's all about the people, not the food. Or at least that's what I tell my family when they are swallowing my pie!

    My husband is working in Arkansas, son is in Canada, and NY staying home so my younger daughter and my sister and I are going to a restaurant for dinner. First time for that, but I am having fun so far today, and hope you all are too. Susan, I too am so grateful that it was me, and not one of the kids.

    From Eleanor Roosevelt:

    "Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart." That is how I feel about each of you.

     Hugs, Pat

    Iago -- your lobster comment made me so homesick for Boston today!  I love Chicago, but I so miss going out for seafood on the beach, in flip flops and shorts, where a lobster or a big pot of clams is an everyday casual occurrence, and not a reason to drop $100 or more at an expensive seafood place, where they fly it in fresh.

    And your comment about indian food just plain made me hungry!!!!!

    As for us, with no extended family in town, we very unapologetically enjoy going to restaurant and a movie, we are off to Buca di Beppo (grew up Italian, ravioli for Thanksgiving is actually my tradition) We already bought our tickets tonight for Harry Potter.  We did all the baking yesterday.

    And in the midst of this health crisis I am blessed by the thoughtfullness of those around me, including you ladies.   Even yesterday, two weeks from the surgery, more gift baskets arrived from friends and family, wishing me well.

    Lisa Last year I did go home for Thanksgiving. It was also my 30th high school reunion. I tried to convince my parents to do lobster for Thanksgiving but we ended up with turkey. You can order your lobsters atBJ's down the cape… and they are all cooked, hot and ready to eat.

    I need to eat. I just came back from the gym. Yes still trying to get those 70 minute work outs in at least 4 times a week.

    Lago ! its amaging, I will make chicken vindaloo, samosa, bananaflower kofta, tomato with fish, on 4th Dec and we will share the taste in this thread. It will be so nice to be with you all guys. Lisamom, Indian foods are really good . Enjoy with me on 4th. I will post some of my simple receipe.But nowadays,people out here particularly young generations likes more of macdonald,KFC, burger,pizza and many other fast foods. My grandaughter likes these items, no traditional item. But I love to cook Indian way. Today, at dinner I cooked chicken curry but for her I had to order Pizza. Sometimes, I also cooked boil rice, vegetable as daily intake of oily things beliefs to be not healthy. Baking is not possible for me. I am finding very difficult. I always collect cookies, bread from the bakery.

    rajkumari -- I work in the IT industry in the US with many Indian firms.  I always feel a little jealous when I walk into our lunch room and my Indian colleagues are heating up homemade food with these wonderful spices, and I am standing in line to get a tuna sandwich!

    Fortunately, we have several fine Indian restaurants in this part of Chicago, even out in the suburbs, so we can alwasy send out for muttar paneer for a quick meal, and slowly but surely I am getting my children used to the spices, but I think that will take awhile.  They still prefer pizza!

    Would love to see the recipes!  I'm a pretty terrible cook, but I could pass them along to my husband who is quite good at it.

     Still waiting to get my turkey on. DH claims it will be ready in 1/2 hours. It sure does smell good!

    Recipes for Indan food!!! Great now I can make my neighbor jealous. (One of my next door neighbors is Indian. Not sure if I mentioned that. She's the one that burns things every so often).Thanks so much for sharing.

    BTW I live right behind Hemas Kitchen and down the street from Indian Grill. The food isn't as good as what you get on Devon Ave. though but still delicious. They've toned down the spice a bit.  I would love to make my own. I've never had banana flower kofta. I had Vegetable Pakoros for the first time a couple of months ago and loved it.

    Happy Thanksgiving friends!  I hope everyone is having a great day with family and friends.

    We are in MI and have been relaxing most of the day.  My son helped me with the turkey and it was delish!  I am absolutely stuffed!

    Sorry I have been MIA on the boards. This year has been very busy.  My daughter joined a swim team this year and my son has been in football and now wrestling.  It has been go, go, go.  I try to check in here every once and awhile to read but it has been tough.

    Looking forward to the holiday lunch.   I have my grab bag gift and I will be wearing jeans too!  Ha.

    I think about all of you every day!

    Gobble, gobble and then wobble, wobble! Hope everyone's day was deeeeeeeeeeeeelish!

    Our day had an unexpected twist! Called one of my friends to wish her a happy t-day. She was volunteering at a homeless shelter about 20 miles from us. She said they were struggling to keep up with the amount of people. So...dh and I threw on coats over our jogging suits and headed over there to help. Quite a rewarding experience. Dessert was being served when we got there. And people were still arriving. We helped serve and then helped clean up. What a mess! lol For the first time in 15 years, I have dish pan hands! lol They truly appreciated our help. We decided that we will volunteer every year, god willing.

    Our dinner (at home) turned out great. Lots of left overs. Black Friday for us will be spent at the "Y" NOT at a mall. You couldn't get me near a mall tomorrow for all the tea in China! lol

    Have a great evening.

    LauraGTO: Last Christmas Day we served dinner at the local homeless shelter. They normally have 30-40 people. I brought 80 chicken parmeseans (homemade) Pasta, Salad, Italian bread and dessert and ended up having only 12 show up. It was the lowest showing in over 5 years. It was a strange day. You were thankful that they found places to go but felt a bit dumb with all the food we brought. Luckily we have good hungry firemen that we were able to pass off all the extras too.

    Onward - Wow...although your hard work was admirable, I am "happy" so few showed up (I'm sure you "get" my point). I can't help but wonder what this years turnout was. I was shocked to see so many needy people.

    I read your post about your chemo treatment. I'm sure you made a big difference in the young patients' treatment session - so nice of you. Way too young! Hope you're feeling okay - post treatment session. Hang in there!

    Jackie - I love the quote d'jour! So appropriate and so true. I love to volunteer. If I was a millionaire, I'd help many, many people. The disabled, elderly and sick childrens families. So until then, I give my time! lol  ;  )

    Paul and i work at the Greater Food Depository in Chicago.  WE do not serve people but rather, prepare boxes of food.  These in turn are taken by bus (with a nurse to check blood pressure, provide medical screening and advice) INTO a central point of the neighborhood.  The thought is that going to a food kitchen can be embarrassing, whereas delivering into the neighborhood and dropping food off eases embarrassment as the people in need are in their own neighborhoods.  It was odd because the bus went into the neighborhood destination and at first it appeared no one was there.  Then all these families, so many of them, came out from the dark and picked up the box per family. I have no idea which model is better.  I just think the new poor would have trouble with a soup kitchen concept.

    That's great that you and Paul do that. The one out here is attached to a church, so maybe that's why people openly attended. Not sure though.

    Totally off topic but I need some fashion help:

    I want to get a pair of boots (fashion not snow) - what makes you look taller: ankle height, calf height, knee height or above the knee height? I'm only 5'3" and I don't want to look "dumpy"! lol I will end up trying some on, but I would like to just buy a pair on line.

    Any info is appreciated!

    IL have a pair I bought from Nordstrom Rack that is so comfortable. I wear them all the time. They look exactly like these but the brand name is different. I think the company might have been bought but this new one: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/3101759?origin=category

    I also got these last year in tan (only color they came in that year). Also very comfortable to walk in:  http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3057960

    I would love these but I doubt I can walk for very long a 4" heel:http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3105041

    `````````````````````````````````````````
    I'm 5'6" with a 33" inseam so I look pretty tall and leggy. My mom and sister are short with short legs. I would never recommend high boots. I think they would cut your legs in half making your legs look shorter rather than longer. I would also be careful of mid calf too. Depending on what you are wearing them with they too can cut up the leg making your legs looks short.
    I don't wear leggings. I have thighs. And when I start doing squats and lunges again I will have bigger thighs ;-)
    The first two links no way. The heels are just not high enough. The third link maybe more like biker bitch than a ho. I'll let you borrow my Harley Leather to complete the outfit ;-)
    BTW this pair ran small: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3057960. Not sure if it runs small this year. I usally wear an 8.5. I bought a 9.5.
    I just want to clarify that I believe any way of feeding people in  bad times is good.  The bus delivery was mentioned simply because we are seeing a new poor.  These are people that had it great but now are on hard times, and like we would feel, are often embarrassed to bring in their family for food.  But I think any and all efforts  to feed and eat with people who are dealing with setbacks is a good thing.
    I thought personally I would never be hungry again after yesterday, but I am!  I hope all had a great Thanksgiving. One of our guests is stage four liver colon cancer survivor.  It spread to his liver but he is doing so well!  He is now NED and of course we hope that stays that for a long time.  He is the sort of person who can just get on with life and TOTALLY shelf  any concerns regarding his future....something I have never been able to with any success.  As far as he is concerned, he will be here for a very long time. We had fun!
    My love for all in treatment (and out) and hope life is good.
    Susan
