Hi all!  Quick drive-by post to say hello to everyone and that I'm looking forward to the holiday party on Saturday.  Also wanted to post this link to an interesting article about Vitamin D research-  I haven't been able to decide what I think yet (I take an extra 2000 IU a day) , but know that there are many here that might be interested.  http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/30/health/30vitamin.html?ref=us

    Have a great week!

JanClare I think the article is referring to people who don't have any D deficiency. Last fall before I even had my cancer diagnosis I was checked. My D was so low my doctor 1st put me on prescription D for several months. I was on 1000iu after that but I still tested low normal. Since my cancer diagnosis my bone density scan indicated I was osteopenia. Now I take 1400ui of D and 1200mg of Calcium. My onc is going to test my D levels again next week.

So in some cases some people do need supplements.

Hi all!  Jan, my husband forwarded me that NY Times article (he was the one who was taken off D because his skin started itching all over. I have got the addiction to milk and it is loaded with D so I stopped my supplement.  Like everything else, mixed messages on what to do or what not to do.  My Vitamin D levels were never low, so really not an issue YET!

I am stopping in to the party.  As I mentioned we have a family thing planned, so I can only stay long enough to say hi. Don't change a thing for me.  Just seeing you all will be fun for me, even if for just a little while.

Yum---I'd be loving the Tiramisu....for the coffee flavors.  Glad you had a nice Anniversary.  As always Jan....thanks for the info.  I think I'm ok this minute --- but never sure what the next test is going to say.  I welcome anything I can read on this subject.

SameDayNurse/Jan.....how fantastic that you can make it to the party.  Of course I'm jealous but I almost made it once.  I will one of these days....of course I think I might be hearing something like -- Oh, there she is.....the gal in the purple slacks and the green sweater.  Wow!!! is that a red blouse, and orange shawl.....and poor thing her walker looks a little rusty and those hearing aids are so big.  Guess she forgot to take off her galoshes.  I don't think she recognizes us.

Ok, just kidding....I do hope it is not quite that bad.  Marvelous too that you Susan can make it for a short while.  I hope you will see to it that you get into a picture,  We who cannot make it need to enjoy vicariously so its important.

Elf.....I think your hubby meant for you to take the day off and get to that party.  Ok, I guess is transposed all over yes in my book....but that is my book.  I hope you can go.....I need some more vicariousness you know.

See you all in the morning.....for which I hope to sleep in just a tad --- it is a nice thought.

    Hugs, Jackie

So, my DH has spent the past 3 days looking for the Christmas tree lights and has been annoyed at the college boys for not putting things away where they belong. Today, I had my sister drive me to buy new lights for the tree. (too foggy to drive myself) DH comes home and says"why didnt you buy the big colored lights?  The answer that I didnt have the heart to give him is that we have used the mini whites for the past five years. Now at least I know what he has been searching for....lol. And I am worried about MY CHEMO BRAIN....

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO OUR DEAR LITTLE SPARKLY ELF!

    ------------------------------------------------

Hope you all had a nice day! I mustered up some ca, ca, ca, courage and dyed my hair red! It's not REAL red, but it's definately much different from my brown/blonde highlighted look. dh loves it and imo - it really makes my eyes look much bluer. It's amazing what a bottle of hair dye can do for a gals spirit! lol Just call me Ginger! lol  Maybe I should change my screen name to GingerGTO!

    ------------------------------------------------

As for the vit D article...do what's right for you. Do your own research. I am going to continue with my D3 supplement. jmo...It's all about balance and definately on an individual basis.

    ------------------------------------------------

dh is at it again! Cooking my FAV pasta dish...bow tie pasta, in a bacon, tomatoe and onion cream sauce...it smells so good! If anyone wants the recipe...PM me.

    ------------------------------------------------

For those going through treatment - I hope you're feeling okay.

Carolyn - Did you go back to work?

    Jackie... Ratley is soooo cute!

Renee... I was surprised to end up with a few dental problems while going through chemo also.  Me?  Never.  I ended up getting one wisdom tooth pulled just prior to first chemo treatment, then had a fractured tooth, trip to endodontist for root canal and back to dentist for crown, then a cavity right at the end of chemo.  WTH!  And my dental hygienist was always commending me for such good work.  Maybe the chemo?

So, my nurse navigator from my ONC office just called to tell me that my Vitamin D level just came back at 14.  What?  A couple months ago, it was 28 so I started taking an extra 2000 a day and now it comes back lower?  She said the doctor will be calling me sometime later this week to let me know what he decides to do about it.  So, all this news about Vitamin D today and now I don't know what to think, but I am sure that 14 is waaaay too low!

Well, I went bald today on the tennis court for the first time.  I play with the same ladies group every Tuesday and have been wearing a scarf or head cover of some type, but just got too hot today and took it off.  Whew!!  That felt sooo much better and I got lots of nice compliments so think I am ready to go bald in public more often... except that it is pretty darn cold out there without something on my head.

Really looking forward to seeing so many of you on Saturday!  Can't wait.

After chemo ended, I had a huge cavity! I had not had a cavity since I was 15 years old. I truly believe that chemo was responsible. Cancer...the gift that keeps on giving!

Joan - FREEDOM...you have guts! Good for you...your confidence is admirable...hats off to you!

I ended up with a root canal and a cracked/broken off tooth during chemo.  My dentist said that the chemo dry mouth definitely contributed.

Hi ladies!  Hope everyone is doing well and had a nice Thanksgiving.  We had a good time in MI but it was cold!!  We went to see Tangled and Megamind over the weekend.  Tangled was absolutely excellent.  Even the two 13 year old boys that were with us enjoyed it.  Megamind was good too, but definitely not as good as Tangled.

Elf - wish I could give you a ride Saturday but I am spending part of the day with my mom as she lives really close to Pompei.   I think you should go and enjoy yourself.  Call the sitter and enjoy your day.  I remember those days with the little ones and you definitely need a break.

I ended up with a detached gum after chemo.  I am convinced it was caused by the chemo.  I had to have oral surgery to correct it.

    Night everyone!

Joan, so cool of you (no pun intended) that you went bald on the tennis court.  It almost sounds like a great title for a book.  I think that shows you are a very sure of yourself and you know who who are your true friends.  Good for you.

Jackie, that dog is adorable.  Oh my goodness, how precious!

Have a great week.  Lots of work for me, but that is good as I can use the money for holiday!  I am having so much fun getting gifts for the grandchildren.  I love these floor puzzles with huge pieces (I have the solar system and Thomas the Engine.   They are great for kids (big pieces) and great for grammies (big pieces-----LOL).

Just wanted to say that I feel so lucky to be an Illinois gal. I don't see any other localized threads as active as we are. We Illinois gals rock!

I'm pretty excited to meet everyone on Saturday. BTW I'm bad with names. Having to remember real names and screen names might really boggle my mind. Please to be offended.

Laura --- you are too funny with your HATS OFF to Joan.

Onward, did you change your avatar....or maybe my brain is MIA again.  Can't believe how many times it does that....totally w/o my permission of course.

Lago -- this is generally the only place I spend time.  It is my real HOME. I think it is perfect the way it is.  I do lurk on one other part of BC. Org for the most part.....and lurk on a completely different cancer blog. This is it for me.

Hope you all have a fantastic day....we are having a chilly one here.  See you all later.

    Illinoislady, Jackie-

Love your Jonathan Lockwood Huie quotes today. As a Mother, in my own home I try to create a loving atmosphere... and radiate warmth. Smiles go a very long way... especially with my crabby coworkers! lol

Lago-I see snow here in our neighborhood too! The first few snows are so pretty. I guess by March I grow tired of the snow. At that point, I am impatiently waiting for my tulips and daffodils to come up!

I think it is great the the illinois thread is so active!

    Have a wonderful day! Cathy

Good morning everyone... Yes, it looks like it's starting to stick.. and I'll come out and admit I AM the big woos on the roads when it snows.. :(   of course have to go to the Hospital today for my Ultrasound for my leison.. I have to drink 32 oz of water an hour before the test.  I can't hold in 5 oz of water for more than 10 minutes.. so this will be very very interesting.. BUT, as long as the results are fine, then I'll be fine.. if I have an accident when they press on my stomach during the test.. their fault!!   Will report back when I get home.. they usually tell me right away.  Patients is NOT my vitrue when it comes to these tests...

Hello ladies --  Just wanted to say hi. Even though I don't write often, I read regularly and ask Rita questions when I've missed out on something. I think of you often.

Had something funny happen a couple of weekends ago that has limited audience appeal, but I knew you would appreciate it. My friend Marilyn and I were in St. Louis at my sister's, Christmas shopping. (We've done this every year for 40 years.) Every evening we bring our purchases in to the house and have "show and tell", so the room gets quite cluttered. One morning I couldn't find my foob! I looked everywhere and finally interrupted Marilyn and Susie who were in the kitchen drinking their coffee. I said, "Girls, I can't find my foob and I can't go shopping without it!" So they came in the bedroom and the three of us searched. Finally, I found it under some presents. The things "normal" people don't even have to worry about!

Hope you all have a wonderful time on Saturday. Wish I could be there and see everyone!

MaryJane..I'd want to find it desperately too.....but an old nylon stocking or some toilet paper would allow me that shopping trip one way or the other.  Good to see you.  I think of you often as well.

You know what.....I'm not sure we knew how normal we were....when we were normal.  No wonder  we will always need each other.

    Have a beautiful day.

    Hugs, Jackie

Happy Hanukkah, Lago.  The grocery store in Northbrook was  jammed today.

So, so happy for you Marina.  YES!

Wendy, good to hear from you.  I didn' t know what the temp was on  the deck and went out in a sundress!  Of course not!  But I do look forward to hearing from you each day.

Jackie is there a train from Centralia to Chicago?  If so, climb aboard and come to the holiday party.  You can stay at my house! Bring Denny along!

Mary Jane, such a wonderful story.  You will smile every time you remember it.  Such great girlfriends you have.

Elf, I hope you can work something out so you can get to the  party. I really need to see your shoes!

    Take care,
