Mary: Waiting is awful, but we all know that. Your quote really helped me today, "What lies behind us and what lies before are small matters compared to what lies within us."
I need to find my strength within me NOW during this waiting time so I can help my daughter in her wait. That is the strength I need to find within me right now. Thanks for sharing that quote.

Susan - Odds are in your dh's favor. I know that's not much comfort right now...but try to remind yourself of this. I can imagine how much, as a Mom, you must fear.
---------------------
Girls -
I have had a very busy week...have not had time to read all the posts, as little miss Shelby Laura has been here since Monday! Geesh...she keeps me busy! Last night we worked, for 3.5 hours, on her book report that's due on Monday about the city of Pompeii! I learned alot and we had a great time working on it. We downloaded photos of the disaster and bought a posterboard and pasted all the photos on it relating to her report. Yikes...what a tragic chain of events those people were thrown. If she doesn't get an A+ - then that teacher is just downright WRONG/BLIND/RUDE! LOL
Also, she wanted her hair cut and styled. She normally goes to the small shops in her neighborhood, but she loves the "big girl salon" that I go to, so I treated her to a new do - complete with a scalp massage and deep conditioner treatment. She is such a girly, girl! Sydney, her sister...wouldn't be caught dead in a "salon"....LOL So...it has been a very exhausting week, to say the least.
And then, this afternoon I had my PHONE HEARING with the county tax dept - because I disputed our latest property taxes. Talk about
S T R E S S...CRAP...they really try to intimidate you into submission, but no way...no how! I WON! I got our taxes reduced 15%! YAY, ME! LOL I pulled up comparible properties, etc, and they ruled in my favor. I saved us $3,000 this year! Whew...but look out tax dudes...if you raise it again next year...I'll win then too! LOL
----------------------------------
More later...hope you're all doing well. I will catch up this weekend with you all...be well, be happy and be tough!

Afternoon to all,
Wendy, I got a fantastic shirt in my mail today and I nearly laughed my face loose. Way too funny....can't wait til' DH gets home to see it.
Mary it is very hard to have relatives living with you.....even though you love them. Seems to be little end to the many ways you can pile up stress is there !!!!!!!
Susan I'll pray for some strength for you. You may not feel it til' the very second you need it but you'll have it.
Ok, Wendy is so fortunate in getting to live her Love Story that I thought I'd share mine with it more funny than tender like Wendy's.
DH and I have been married 32 yrs. but back when we first became engaged, I had a girl friend who in all seriousness asked if I really intended to marry Denny. I asked her why she would ask ? She said you know your taller than he is ( and I am by 2 inches ) and I just calmly said " Yes, I know, but it's too late, we're already in love".
Julie...hope you're hanging in there.
Rita it is really wonderful to spend some time watching some of Gods graceful creatures isn't it. I know that we get way too populated with them if the hunters don't thin them out but it bothers me anyway.
Connie, hope you are having a good time.
Talk with you all later.
Jackie

Kats...this one is for you! I'm sending you a PM this weekend.
Jackie...gee, you got a t-shirt? Hmmmm...wonder what great little group sent you that! And I loved your love story! And I guess I could say something here about inches not mattering, but I don't know you all that well!!!!! LOL And the nuns would kill me!
Hint.....Julie...PM your address and stuff to LauraGTO and you never know what may appear in your mailbox! Of course if you don't want us wackie IL girls to know how to mapquest you, I totally understand! No pressure.
Laura...you did great on the tax stuff...yay you! How's your finger thingy by the way? Your time with your nieces sounds so nice! My nieces and nephews are grown and married so now I get to have some fun with their kids! I have 9 grandnieces/nephews. Of course they are the most gorgeous children around! And this Hannah Montana/High School Musical phenom is CRAZY!!!!
Rita...where are you? I don't see you for a day and I start to worry.
Susan...I don't have kids so I can't truly feel what you are going thru. You doin' OK? Hugs, sweetie!
Blackjack...your bronchitis? Better?
OK...guess I have bored you all enuf for tonight...Hey, where's Nicki!
And Pat(Fitzpatti)...I remembered to woohoo. When Dh said again, for the 10,000 time...want to go out for dinner? I said...I would love to! And we went to Claddagh's Pub. I remember Pat...I remember. Hugs and smiles up to heaven my friend!

Hi all"
Whenever things get tense in my family, we go to the movies and that is what we did today. Got the "twilight" price so got in for cheap! We saw Juno and what a great film. I went with my daughter and she id doing just fine. Thanks, Laura, with words of encouragement. I do know that everything is in her favor. Your adventures with your niece are soooooo cool. How lucky she is. If I were her teacher, and I wish I could be, I would give her A's along with a zillion 's. I think I got the bloody face wrong. I wanted the friendlier one!
Like Wendy, I want to get the indoor and outdoor Christmas decorations back in their boxes sooner rather than later. Wendy, you do not to have kids to know what I feel. You take care of us all ( I am with you, a few hours without Rita is scary). We need to see you, Wendy. When we all met in Long Grove, Laura said she really wanted to be with you. Me too!
Thanks, and Rita.....log on!

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to check in to see how everyone was doing. As for me I still feel horrible. I now developed this sob and cough w/ chest pain.. The cough med helps a little. I am wondering if the radation did damage to my chest wall were the tumor was and I now have lung issues. I am sooo tired all the time. I am trying to get my kids back to school, shopping , packing and celebrating there b-days this week has left me exhusted. I start back at school Monday so I have to get better.
Has anyone developed lung problems post rads??? I think if I am not better by next week I am going to ask for a chest xray. Can you get reoccurance this early post 6 months of rads?? I am soo nervous.
I hope allis weel and haveing fun this weekend..back to bed for me now..
Good noc,
Blackjack

Morning Everyone!
Hey Rita...where are you? I'm actually a bit concerned as you didn't say you were going out of town. Hope everything is OK.
Blackjack....so far I have no lung issues from rads. A chest x-ray certainly couldn't hurt, esp. if this has been going on for a while. That being said, DH has been sick since 12/20 with bronchitis/sinusitis (he's much better) and my nephew has had a severe case of bronchitis since mid-December AND while I was at my internist yesterday he was telling me about all the cases of bronchitis their office has seen in the last month or so. Get some rest this weekend. When I have a really bad cough I speak up and get some cough rx with codeine for the nights. I find that if I sip tea with honey and lemon during the day, and then take the codeine at night for the night coughs, my throat heals much faster and I am done.
As for getting together again, can we do a Saturday/Sunday daytime? I need to meet you guys face-to-face and I need HELP with my Don King on steroids hair!!!!!! Kats doesn't like to drive at night and until the Herceptin is out of my system my night vision is strange...very "halo-y"...so days would be better for us.
Julie...how did it go?
Jackie...send a pic, wearing the you-know-what!
Susan....glad you and your daughter are spending time together. And I really don't know about the bond between parent and child but having taken care of my one grandniece for her first 2 years (she still calls me "Mama Winnie" and she is 6.5) if anything happened to Kelsy...well...I don't think I would like that very much!
Well...I'm hungry!!!! I'm reading a new Michael Palmer paperback "The Fifth Vial"...you know how they always seem to draw extra blood? Well....very interesting fiction on what they might be doing with it!!!!!
Everyone...enjoy the warmer weather today and HAVE SOME FUN!!!!!

Hi gals!
I am alive and doing well. I just had a hectic few days trying to help the guy who bought my business. (He's behind as you always are in this business and in need of help.) Since I'm going to Florida later this month and leaving Dave at home to fend for himself and the cats, I can always use the extra money. A great trade-off, I'd say. Anyway, I had good intentions of logging on last night and fell asleep in the recliner so..........Thanks for checking on me!! :-)
Laura, Congrats on beating the system again. You have lots of grit!!! LOL I also think you're a wonderful aunt. I had an aunt like you when I was growing up...my mother's sister and I still talk to her every week. I'll never forget our memories.
Susan..so sorry about your daughter. The waiting will be a real challenge. As for your inner strength, you've already begun to find it because you're angry about her having to go through this turmoil. I've no doubt that you'll draw upon it whenever it is needed!
Mary...ahhhhh... go ahead a bowl a few frames on Sunday! You might just surprise yourself with your talent! If it bothers you, you can always quit.
Blackjack..A chest x-ray probably wouldn't hurt, but you have to remember that our immune systems are shot after chemo. We tend to catch every bug that circulates and it takes longer for us to fight it off once it's settled in! I do understand your worry, though. We've all been there.
Julie..hope you're doing well! Let us know how it's going for you.
Hi Michele, Pat, Jackie, JanClare, and Kater! Hope all is well at your houses...and of course Hi to anybody else who might be lurking also...like Mary Jane or Ginny???? Nicki? Mary from Taylorville???? Jan??? We have several missing in action! This cold weather must have gotten to them or they've found a winter project like I did. Check in gals. We know Connie is snuggled away in Michigan with a good book and her family so she has a legitimate excuse!
Wendy, you're right! We need to meet! Maybe we should plan an early spring outing where the weather will be good for everyone. Anyone have an idea of a place that's centrally located for all of us?
Well, I have to run to the vet and pick up arthritis meds for my cat so I'd better get in gear. Hope you all have a good weekend!
We're heading for Macomb tonight for late Christmas with some friends. The treat is Aurelio's pizza...which originally started in the Chicago area (in Homewood, I think). If you haven't eaten this pizza, you need to find the closest place to you and give it a try! It's the best!!!!
Catch you all later.........Rita

HI:
I WANT TO GO TO FLORIDA! I am jealous. In fact, my vacation ends at 6:20 am on Monday. I tackled 18 of the 80 term papers. I will be busy today.
BlackJack, I did not have lung issues with radiation but like the others, I know people with bronchitis right now. My cousin has had it for three weeks! I know yu are frustrated, especially with kids in town, but just sleep and drink liquids.
Someone here once told me to get tests rather than spend anguished days worrying about it and I did and I was free of further cancer. I actually healed quickly (whatver the hell it was causing the leg pain) and it may have been that the worry was removed and I could get better. I wish you a better day.

I just noticed my profile info is wrong. I was diagnosed in 2006 and not 2007. I want every bloody year I can get. I changed it but it doesn't show corrected on the posting. Ok Laura, you know how to cut through any bureaucracy. Any ideas?
Susan

OMG:
Now the whole thing is gone. I am wrapping this up and going to the movies! I guess I could just delete but that always looks too ominous. So I will just admit I am a klutz at computers.
You breast cancer sister gone berserk after 70 term papers (bad ones too I might add)

You have been a teacher for a long time.
Me, not all that long. I STILL tell myself, I would much rather be doing the grades than going back to school again. It will be over soon!

Morning All! Gosh...almost all the snow is gone and it is already 47. If the sun would come out I swear I would take the convertible out for a little zoomin'!
Kater...I didn't know that you were a teacher. What did you teach? Or did you tell me this already and I forgot?
Suan....computers are great, when they feel like working. Like these graphics...sometimes this board makes be go thru the copy/paste/insert thingy up to 3 times, sometimes it works the first time. Arghhhh!
Nicki...."NuttyNickiNurse"? I Love it! If I might ask, why did you change it? With all the posts on here about privacy, I wish sometimes that I had not used my real name but then I really never write down anything I don't care if the world sees. Hmmm...what would I change it to? We could have a contest and the winner could come to my house for an elaborate lunch (right after she puts away all the Christmas/Fall/Decorations that are littered across the basement floor).
Rita...where in Florida are you going? We have relatives in Satellite Beach, Viera, Melbourne and Coral Gables. Heck...why am I staying up here? I should leave Tom home and I should go too! I think, Rita, you and I could do so damage down south!!!!
Poor Susan....by the time she gets back to school tomorrow she will be "slaphappyzap"! Don't let the computers get you down, dear. Just remember, you can shut those off...those dear, sweet little children tomorrow...well, not so much!
OK....I'm going to look AGAIN for the paper in the street, sidewalk, neighbor's bushes. Who knows where it will be today...always an adventure! Anyone know of someone who is looking for a house in South Elgin (St Charles schools tho)? The house next door to me has been empty now for 1 1/2 years and the bank just took over and it is up for sale $279,000. This is a huge reduction and I know that they would probably take a lot less. It's actually my house, but I have the 4th bedroom with the kitchen bumpout and media niche in the fam room. It's only 8 years old too. Let me know and I could always PM the MLS#

wendy, thanks for the update, my back yard is full of snow but I'm hoping that the front where i drive is melting like you say! Foggy here!
I have taught computers since about 93, usually did public relations and marketing, but it extended to teaching thanks to a brilliant wonderful boss years ago. ! 8-)

Hi everyone,
Laura- Great job on reducing your taxes! And what a special aunt you are.
Kater-I didn't realize you taught computers either-what grade level? How is your mom?
Rita-Florida sounds great! Meeting place for the spring? Vegas?
Blackjack-Hope you're feeling better. Like the others said, get it checked so you're not worrying.
Susan-Thinking of you and your daughter.
Wendy-Did you find your paper yet?
Jackie-Did DH laugh at your shirt too?
Ok, what's the solution/tips for waking up during the night with hot flashes? I wake up around 3:00, can't fall back asleep until around 5:00, then before you know it, the alarm goes off, then I'm so tired. I may ask the doctor for a sleep aid, although I really don't want to take anything.
Have a great day!
Michele

It's so rewarding to be a teacher or a nurse. I've often thought that if I could do it all over again, I would probably be a teacher. I don't think I could be a nurse because I could not deal with the emotional aspect.
Susan - You have a great job and you're so dedicated. Have you decided to retire?
Rita - FL! That's great...wish I could hide in your suitcase.
blackjack - Hope you're feeling better. I've read that a chest CT is better at detecting lung probs...as apposed to an xray.
Wendy - If you and Rita went together...that state would never be the same! LOL Add me to the picture and OH CRIPE....
I hate this time of the year. It's so ugly outside! Everything is brown and wet and....yuck! I can't wait until everything is green and bright and happy! LOL I have a major case of CABIN FEVER! So...I am going to paint my sitting room and dining room today. It's funny, I painted my bedroom and bath a couple of years ago, and remember saying to dh - "I will NEVER paint another frickin' room as long as I live!" I guess I forgot the pain! LOL
Michele - Night sweats are the HORRIBLE! I take a Trazodone (R/X) at bedtime...it puts me into a sleep that's deep enough so that I sleep right through them.
0 -
Hot flashes,
It seems I'm putting hat and so forth on and off all day long.
I would like to invent something with a pulley to hang over the beam over my couch, so I can pull blanket off and on easily during the night...and also i've learned that it's easier to sleep with a hooded shirt so I can find it instead of my hat when i'm cold in middle of the night.
I'm convinced hot flashes are natures' way of getting rid of toxins...I hope I'm washing them off fast enough, or do they evaporate?!!
Michele, junior college. Just basics, no programming or animation or auto cad.
Right now I'm getting a kick out of downloaded "ebay countdown", it's really cute!
Kater

kater - Your idea of a pulley is SO funny! LOL How about a hat with a mini fan mounted on it.
Michele -
There's also a pillow that supposedly helps. It's called a Chillow:
0 -
I swear I'm going to rig something...(pulley to the beam)
I have a hat with fan, it's kinda dangerous when sleeping I think.
They sell them on ebay, mine I had given my Dad years ago.
My whole body needs warmth or cold off and on all day long.
I'm sitting here with blanket and hat on...til I get hot again.
Kater

Good Morning;
It's a windy but warm morning here. Weather said up to 60. Last wk. we were freezing our tushies off, now look.
Susan, I'm with you on computers. I always think of a little engineer in there somewhere deciding "today is the day, let's screw up her world".
Mich, Denny did have a good laugh. What a way to take off some pressure. I have been feeling some lately...don't know why. Nothing has changed. Probably just the chemo cycles.
Laura, I'm with you. I don't care much for the overcast and damp wet and muddy ground, although put a little sun in it and my tolerance level goes way up. Just hasn't been near enough this year.
Going over to SIL's today ( late ) for a card game of May I. One of my favorite games.
Wendy you and Rita stay out of trouble, ok.
Everyone else that I haven't mentioned, have a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Jackie

Good Morning:
Although it is almost afternoon. One of my New Years reslutions is to get my Avatar up. Thank goodness! I have over 358 days to do that. Today I will fix my profile. You know me so well now that you will notice if I try to make it look rosier than it is. Kidding.
Laura, it is rather bleak out. The idea of redecorating is so good. I am retiring one year from June. I have a "package" in place. They give older, more expensive teachers a boost in salary so the pension is better and I am a part of that plan. I have loved being a teacher. I am looking forward to time off, however, and I believe I will be ready when the time comes. In Long Grove I said I had no plan. I do not think I need one. I would like the time to get to know me better and to do things I have never taken the time to do. I do not bore easily and this BC has taught me some valuable lessons. Unfortunately I obsess on it when given too much time. I need to work on that and do more positive things connected to BC...things like lobbying for more BC research monies....advocating for minorities...etc. Right now I am just caught of with myself. I think it is a process, so there is hope if there is time.
Have a great day, ladies.
Susan

Susan - I'm sorry, I failed to respond to your plea for help! To fix your profile go into My Home and then to My Profile and then just click on edit. Also...If you need help with your avatar, let me know. You could e-mail me your photo, I can size it for you and e-mail it back to you and then you can insert it. Just let me know.
Jackie - I hear ya! We definately have not had enough sun! I'm craving vitamin D!
JanClare - Let's get together soon! Today's good walking weather, but I'm such a bum! Still in jammies with hair sticking straight up! Scary sight, indeed! Knowing you...you probably walked 30 miles this morning!
0 -
I think I did it. Thanks Laura!

Just a quick pop-in! Isn't this weather glorious! Took the Z out for a spin, but kept the top up due to the mist.
Count me in to re: cabin fever. This is the time I start haunting Lowe's etc for ideas on what to paint/fix/decorate. Just want something new to look at.
Susan...once you retire you can always get on the sub list, don't forget...I think it's about $100-$120 a day (of course our temp supt out here in U46 is getting $1100./day, but that is a WHOLE other story!!!!) And you can pretty much pick your school and your day.
OK...off to do something outside, maybe a walk. Don't really want to waste this warm weather.
Everyone....ENJOY TODAY!!!!

Hi gals...
Hey Wendy and Laura....great minds think alike. We spent all afternoon at Lowe's and ordered all new bathroom fixtures, ceramic tile, wallpaper, faucets....the whole works for the main upstairs bathroom remodeling project. Most of it was custom order and won't be here until mid-February but the "ball is rolling in the right direction." This room REALLY needs a facelift! I can't wait!
As for Florida...gee Wendy, I wish I'd have known you were interested. We could have really created some lively capers in sunny FL. I am going with a friend from Macomb who is also single and semi-retired. Neither of us have had the opportunity to head to warmer climates during the winter because of work so we're only going for 8 days this year to give it a try. We're flying down to Fort Myers Beach with our golf clubs and swimming suits and just planning on having a ball! One of my friends has a condo on Sanibel Island so we're driving over the island one day.
Oh Michele.......I LOVE your suggestion for the spring meeting....VEGAS! Can you imagine what about 10 of us (or more) could do to that city???? Or if that's too far for everyone........how about Tunica?? LOL We should plan something really fun followed by dinner and time to really talk! Mmmmm.........such good ideas you have, Michele!!!!
Jackie..I love to play cards but I've never heard of May I. Do you use a regular deck of cards to play it or is it a boxed game?
We usually play pitch or euchre.
Ginny...hope all is going well with you. Mary Jane, we're still looking for you!
Hey, Kater....you could make some money with your inventions!!!!
Susan, I think you will be perfectly content for awhile as a retiree. It's only as time has progressed that I've started to look around a little. At first, it is just such a luxury to be able to sit and read the paper leisurely in the morning with your coffee and to stay in your robe for as long as you want in the morning. And of course, there's always good books to read.
Well, I've got a pot of vegetable soup started and I need to check on that. Hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather and having a great weekend. Hugs to ALL of you.

Rita- This one is for you. See the name A and score 93, my granddaughter and I bowled as one bowler with bumper pads and
that was our score? Oh yeah, the spare and strike you see
weren't mine, they were my granddaughter's.

Hi all:
I took a walk in the woods with the family! It was gorgeous!
Blackjack, I sure hope you are feeling better. Your e-mail sounded like you were doing a lot of stuff and running around a lot. I hope you could rest well today.
Susan

Hey Mary! I'm proud of you and your granddaughter. You made an awesome pair! You were the winners!!!!!! I hope you had a good time! :-) Thanks for sharing!
Rita

Laura-Thanks for the 'night sweat' suggestions. I'll look into them.
Kater-Sorry you're having the same probs as me
Jackie-I know what you mean about feeling pressures. I too am trying to teach myself how to deal with all of this. I admire Susan and anyone who is trying to steer towards accomplishing positive things for BC. Most of the time I just want to forget about it. I hope I can positively influence someone (or many) some day.
Wendy-$1100/day-yikes!
Rita-Maybe in the spring, we should plan bowling (or cards) then dinner? I've never been to Tunica!
Later-
Michele
