Nancy....doing the happy dance for you!!!!!

Linda...hopefully you understood that I was not telling you what to do.  Heck...not sure if I am doing the right thing.  But what we need to do is read, listen and then decide what is right for us...which is exactly what you did.  What I did.  What we all do.  So that being said...YOU GO GIRL!!!!  And never look back!

OK...now the REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF I HAVE LEARNED AT JEWEL THIS AM....REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF.

I love Edy's slow-churned ice cream (50% less fat - and oh shut up of course I do not eat 1/2 cup of this...get real)...new flavor that I have seen.  For your own sake, if you love banana splits...stop reading RIGHT NOW.....

They have a new flavor (well, new to me) called "One Split Wonder" - the American Idol Series.  It is banana ice cream with swirls of chocolate and strawberry and something else...maybe marshmellow/creamy something???  And it is low-fat.  OH MY GOSH!!!!  I brought it home from Jewel and just had to have a little taste.  You are the only people I will tell this to...

ate my way thru between 1/4 and 1/3 of the carton.  It was that good.

You have been warned.  Oh...and Jewel has it on sale....2/$7.00 so actually buy one, get one free.

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!!!!!!

Yes, I too, LInda,  will always respect anyone's decision to do what is right for her.  I think the word "horrible" hit a raw nerve.  Now I understand that you meant it was horrible for you but would be fine for others.  Have a great evening.

Nancy LA  I'm so happy for you! It is truly a great day when we get news like that.

Wendy   The only time I eat a half cup of ice cream is when that is all that's left! I think it should be a food group all by itself. I'll look for the new kind at Jewel, but I really like the pineapple with coconut by Haagen Daz I think. Did I say how much I like pina coladas? Yum! I traveled to Hawaii last November with out a sleeve, and have taken several shorter flights since my tx. My docs all felt I didn't need a sleeve, but I did worry. So far, so good though. My surgeon said I could get a mosquito bite on the arm ten years later, and that could be enough to get lymphedema. I'm completely paranoid about mosquitos now.

Linda   Naperville Riverwalk is absolutely beautiful. My eldest daughter did a triatholon there several years ago, and of course I went to watch. It was at 7AM on a Sunday morning, and I had to force myself out of bed.  It was to raise money for bc, and I had just lost my mom from it.  It was 99 degrees out, and they did the run, swim, bike thing, and I thought I'd die from the heat just watching. Needless to say, I was very proud of her, and we explored the town a little after. Riverwalk is wonderful, and the downtown is so charming.

Rita   Miss you, and hope you are having a fantastic time.

    JanClare   Miss you too.

Laura   Thanks for the kind words. It's so great that you are getting such a deal on the botox! You desreve to have good things happen, as we all do. I've never been to MX, but it sure sounds nice. By the way, you are anything but vain.

Jackie  My sis and I always have our animals neutered. My mom who lived in the city, used to catch feral cats, and take them to a vet for neutering. There was even one who barely charged for it, because he wanted to reduce the problem of all the homeless cats. I just wondered about their quality of life, I guess. I know they'll live longer, but one room isn't the roaming they are used to doing.

Susan  I too have heard only good things about the Life program. You know what? Going at your own speed is a good thing. There isn't a right or wrong way to handle what's been thrown at us. I'd be very interested in knowing what they say about having a glass of wine. I dearly love having a glass at dinner, but I usually only do it on the weekends. It would be so hard to give it up! By the way, I know that medicine on the cat's paw usually works, but mine walked over to the rug and wiped his paw! Grrrrrr.....what a mess!

Hi to everyone else, and have a good evening, and a great Superbowl Sunday.

    Good Evening all,

Nancy---Hooray for you.  Way to go.  I'm jumping for joy for ya...

Linda....it is a personal thing and if you do what feels right to you, you will be ok.  Anytime I've not heeded what comes through loud and clear I've had regrets, so if it feels right do it.  No one could ever fault you for being true to what your heart tells you.

Wendy--would you please save me some of that ice cream.....I love banana splits, and Haagen Daws ????  coffee ice cream...Yum-Yum.

Did I say paws....well, a bit higher up on the leg is fine.  Some cats are smart enough to out-fox.  Far as being in a room....they get used to it and I think start to enjoy the safety.  I've had cats that never stepped foot out doors....though they did go in a crate to the Vets. office.  Cats are generally quite adaptable.

Beautifully warm today, but chill again tonight---probably a small re-freeze overnight of a lot of melted slush.  Tomorrow when I'll be hiding out....it will warm greatly again and stay up for overnight so we won't have our snow too long.

Hope you all have a fantastic Saturday night.

    nancy; GREAT NEWS.

that is what i try to tell everyone, get it early and you can be CURED! That's what i read anyway. Some people feel a lump and worry for a year. BAD BAD!

i give my little speech (one in 8 women), get it early, do self exams, mammo didn't find mine, doctor did and _I_ didnt feel it either the week before.....

whenever someone's nice in customer service, irs lady the other day, said, "i know, i had double mastectomy and reconstruction" whoops!!

I was so frustrated last january, i faxed them my BC report instead of filling out zero number my sales tax annual form last year, and i found out last week they pulled my sales tax number that i've had more than 20 years. @#$#@$#$# now i have to do monthly reports for a year ...boo hooh.

Graphics: if it loads fast, it's cause you've already been to that page and it's in your cache (saved for fast viewing later on your computer), it will never load fast on dialup the first time...your computer sees the new graphic.

arimidex: yes....Linda MEmm, you have to go with your gut.....we were just making sure you new the statistics.

It reminds me that at our last lunch meeting several of the girls remarked that "a voice" made them feel a lump which they normally would never have felt.....listen to that voice and know your body they say.

Also, a girl told me that her cat was kneeding her chest one day and found her lump which was cancerous.

Cats rule! So far they just leave a lot of scratches on me. 8-)

Hi everyone!  I am back, but I sure hated to leave those 50 and 80 degrees temps and the SUN!!!  I have a tan and 5 extra pounds from the fantastic food and cocktails on the beach, but I'm so glad I had the week away.  As you can tell from the time reference, it's the middle of the night.  I am still "wound for sound" and can't sleep....so look where I showed up!  LOL

I really thought that you gals would have controlled the weather a bit more while I was gone!  LOL  It was so depressing to see all that white fluffy stuff when we landed.  Hurry up spring!!!

Michele, I immediately thought about you when I heard about the Vegas fire.  Glad you weren't in the vicinity and so glad you enjoyed your trip.  I think that the Vegas atmosphere is a "jackpot" in itself.  I hope you came home as relaxed and perky as I did.  We went to an Indian casino one night in Florida.  I won about $40 and spent $10 of it on food!  Then we took a casino cruise one night.  Unfortunately it didn't turn out so good because the gal I went with got seasick and spent the night camped outside the bathroom door.  I felt so sorry for her.

Welcome to the newbies!  Nancy...such good news!!!!! I do believe in faith!  Linda, it's so good to learn more about you.  All of our decisions about our treatment and our journeys need to be OUR decisions.  Everybody is different and everybody's cancer is different.  Most of us will offer suggestions or give opinions but we respect everyone's decisions, just as we respect and love each other.  We're glad you found us.  Joan...you will NEVER be alone on this thread.

Ginny...so it's back to work, eh?  How's it going!  I've got some good low fat recipes so give me a call if you need a few.  I'm proud of you!  I have to get back on my diet, too now that the vacation is over.

Julie...great pics!  What a wonderful supportive family you have!  As everyone has said, you are indeed beautiful..with or without hair.  Your smile and sparkling eyes tell the tale!

Susan...so glad you have a spa day planned.  What fun!!!  We will need pictures of the new you when that day rolls around!

Kater and Jackie...I'm absorbing all the info that you're posting on the feral cats, as I have the one that I faithfully feed.  She does let me feed her when I put the food out, but will not approach me if I come out of the house without food.  It's been a year now so I don't think it will ever get any better, do you?

Jackie..love your pictures.  It's so good to be able to put a "face" with the written words.

Laura...I'm really interested in your procedures.  I'm such a wimp though!

Wendy...So glad to hear that the port is out.  Hip Hip Hooray!  Sorry you had some pain afterwards but now that part of the journey is completed and you can go on with your life!

Connie and Pat...I always love reading your posts.  Connie is our young perky voice and Pat is always to well informed and has such good ideas and info for us all.

Mary Jane, Kats, and JanClare......sending out the search engines for you gals!  Also Jan from Clinton.  We still need to plan that lunch or coffee break, Jan.

Nicki.....so glad to have you back!

Well, I guess I missed Blackjack's departure for warmer temps and I didn't get through all the posts that I missed, but I had to skim through and be sure everyone survived the rotten weather.

Take care ladies.  Enjoy those superbowl parties tomorrow!

Rita's BACK!!!!!!  Yay!  Gee Rita...can you tell we missed you?

For those of you on Laura's list (you newbies...just pm Laura GTO with your add, phone #, BD, Dx date and you too can be on the LIST), I sent you one of those silly little questionnaire thingies.  I get a lot of these, but this one I passed on to you guys as I thought it was a good way to get to know each other.  If you don't want to do it, by all means just delete it.  I got it back from Kater and it was very interesting!  Only I have to keep her secrets!  Don't worry Kater - I will stay silent!

Well...seems like everyone is doing well.  Julie, haven't heard from you...hope chemo is treating you OK this go-around.  Blackjack I'm sure is enjoing her Hawaiian sojourn....lucky stiff!  JanClare....Belize soon?  Laura...off to MX end of the month?  Wendy...off to Elgin to see the dentist?  Hmmm...wonder what I should pack for MY trip?

Enjoy the game today...I know Nicki will be watching.  Me...upstairs either reading/watching hopefully something good.  You wil have to tell me all about the commercials.  Who's doing the halftime show?  I don't think I heard....

Well...off to check for the newspaper!

Yah-hoo, Rita is back.  The voice of calm and reason.  Hope you did have a really super time.

I did another slept for hours thing yesterday and last night....hope I caught up.

Rita--you noticed.  I never talk about my kids, but hey....ask me about a cat and I'm up on the podium in a flash.

So glad your back and hope the rest show up soon.

    Talk at ya'll later.

    Jackie

re: your feral.....you never know for sure...it's less likely since she/he has gone this long.  Some I feed took a couple of years.

Hip, hip hurrah!  Rita returned safe and sound.  I was beginning to feel a little, shall I say "twitchy"  without you, Rita.

Wendy, I am going to pull up the attachment you sent.  Now I am curious.  I sure hope I know how to proceed with that.

Have a great SuperBowl Day.  This week is important what with Tuesday's vote, too.

Good morning.  I just glanced at my last post and noticed that I said 50 degree temps...WRONG!  I meant to say 70 degrees as it was usually in the low 60's in the early morning hours and later evening hours and MUCH warmer during the day!

Gosh, gals.  Thanks!  It's niced to be missed!  I am, however, having sun withdrawal already!  Gripe, gripe, gripe.  Just think.  I could be Wendy planning her trip to the dentist!  LOL  You crack me up, Wendy!

I know there were a few other issues that I also wanted to address but I can't remember what they were without going back and I don't want to lose this post so I'll get to them later.

As for the SuperBowl, I'm not a football fan.  We're going to a party and I'm going for the food (how about that, Jackie???) and the socialization.  If I was home, I'd probably be reading a good book too instead of watching the game!

I hope everybody is enjoying the weekend.  Hopefully this snow is done for awhile.  If not, I might just take another trip....up to the northern area of the state to sit under Wendy's table!  LOL

Catch you all later.  It's good to get caught up on your posts.  You are all such a great group of ladies.  Thanks for welcoming me back!

    AfternoonWink

and the countdown is about to begin.  It's not looking too nice outside...good thing I got the ferals done with.  Let all the outdoor dogs out for a romp.  Baby Boss growls and barks and carries on like he is 300#'s or so instead of 10.  Very noisy inside while the others are running to and fro across the deck.

Your right Rita....it's roughly about the food and friendship, and if they let me know in time....some of the commercials.  Bout' the same for Denny....good thing we are a pretty good match that way.

Hope you all have a safe, happy day..and where's the ice cream anyhow.

I sure miss the sun today, and it's snowing now. A good day for curling up on the couch either with a book, or watching the big game. I usually watch with my dh because i enjoy his company, not football. One game a year, that's all for me. He is a huge Packer fan, so outcome is not important to him today. Thankfully.

Linda  I hope you had a great b-day! We ate next door to the Yard, at Roy's when we were in Honolulu. Would have tried the Yard if I had known, but I think we have one in GV now. Of course it wouldn't be the same!

Rita   Welcome home! I'm sorry we greeated you with this weather, but it'll change soon. For the better, we hope.

Kater  You're right about Oberweiss milk being hormone free. I just returned from Jewel and they have Oberweiss and two other brands from which to choose hormone free. I got the new ice flaver Edy's churned, and also my usual pineapple-coconut by Haagen Daz. That one comes in light and regular, and I like both! I think Wendy found the new Edy's, if I remember correctly? memory questionable these days though. I also noticed they now have Oberweiss ice cream for hormone free choice. I live closer to Oberweiss store than I do to Jewel, but I never go in there. I'm afraid of what I would weigh with no will power when it comes to ice cream!

Jackie  Thanks for the cat tips. I did take the vet too literally when he said put the medicine on the paws! My kitty was pretty smart, I think. He was a very vocal Siamese who lived for 22 years, and I miss him a lot.

Everyone, have a great afternoon and evening. I'm off to make some snacks for the game.

    Good morning!

Thanks for the welcome back, Pat!

Wendy, I learned from your little friend info sheet that we wear the same size of shoe.  Aren't we lucky????  Where in the world do you find stylish, fun shoes in aa widths?  All I can find around here are shoes that my grandmother probably wouldn't have worn and even they cost a small fortune.  I thought I'd find some in FL but only found medium widths which is just wishful thinking for me.

Laura...have lots of fun in MX!  The sunshine does wonders for the morale and spirits!  I'm so glad that you're pleased with the procedures that you've had done and you are so lucky to "fall into" these great opportunities!  Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket or hit the boat soon!  LOL

Hello to everyone else.  I need to get the dishes out of the sink and get ready to head out for a hair appointment.  I am OVERDUE for a cut and color.  That should lift up the spirits a bit, too.

I just heard thunder too! We had about 3 to 4 inches of new snow last night. It did look beautiful, with deer wandering by and leaving tracks all around, but now the fog is rolling in and I can't see much in the backyard. It is weird!

So there I am, out with the snowblower, figuring I have survived breast cancer but I am going to found dead in my driveway...STRUCK BY LIGHTENING?  What is with this weather????

Fog, sleet, ice, snow, rain, thunder, lightening, hail.  Wonderful day.

Rita...I've pretty much given up on finding AA shoes, just get med. width and deal with it, or put some moleskin in the heel part.  Zappos has them, as Laura said but as I am shoeaholic I stay away from there!  A bit too pricey, but VERY nice if you need a special pair.  Famous Footwear has them sometimes as well and I get lucky.  Don't know about DSW, but they might have them as well.

Well...enug goofing off...laundry, dishes, housecleaning await without.

Always wondered what the expression meant...without what exactly???

    Good Mornin'to ya,

Just checking in to say we here in southern Illinois had our share of thunder last night and a bit this a.m. as well.  I say Al Gore is right on.  We have had the strangest concoction of weather and you never know what you'll be getting.

We awoke to near tulie fog ( tulie's are what often happened in California ) which basically starts at ground level.  Often scary since it's thicker and takes longer to dissipate.  It's 11:30 and is only now that I can plainly see a couple of houses.

Most of our snow left with the all night warm rain so we had  no more slipping and sliding.

I'm coming up for the #4 and last A/C on Feb 6th.  I know I'll have other issues with the Taxotere, but sure glad the A/c will be done.  I think I would definitely start complaining big time if I had to have more of it than I'm having.

I know I'm doing the RIGHT thing for myself in doing all the chemo, but I have to say....since I really was never close to anyone who had cancer and did the chemo rounds, I did not truly appreciate what I would actually experience.  Still I am a tough Illinois girl and I would not change a thing.

Well, I'm in need of getting a few things done for today so I'll be checking in later.

    See you then.

    Hello Illinois ladies   Smile

This entire 2008 has been so weird, so what else could be more appropriate than snow with rain, lightning and thunder.  I am SOOO glad I can not go out and shovel.    Actually, I really do not mind shoveling.  I loved surprising my husband with having the driveway and walk cleared off before he got home.  I looked at it as a great workout.  1 hour and 15 minutes of cardio and weight lifting...

    Hi all!

Have you women noticed how kind people with BC are....not just here but in so many of the threads.  We are just nice people!  I am not sure if it is because we have been through a lot, or we have brushed up against a life and death illness...or if we just born to be KIND!

Nancy, my family and I do the Mother's Day walk.  I walk with my DH, my two girls, one sil,  and my grandchild.  I would love to meet up with you.  Laura, we could meet too  if you are interested as well.  I love that walk as it is along the lake.  I also did the September Komen walk  with Laura, Jan Clare, and Rita (among other people) and loved that as well.  I was to be with Rita for the Mother's Day walk in Peoria, but my grandchild is getting baptized that weekend.  Rita, are you still doing that one?

Jackie, I keep forgetting that you are still in treatment. OUCH!  I never had the A/C treatment but I heard it was rough.  My taxotere was not that awful....again it  is so individual.  You are such a trooper  as I actually forgot you were doing all this stuff.  You are tough!

    So long,

    Susan

Rita-Welcome back! Glad you had a wonderful, relaxing time. 70-80 degrees sounds great. Vegas wasn't very warm at all, although I guess we didn't spend much time outside anywaySmile!

I would like to try to do a walk this year, I hope my feet will cooperate. I think I need newer, supportive walking shoes!

Sorry to ask this again - what is the differ. b/t Vit. D and D3? My multi vit. has D, do I need D3?

    Hi there!

Gads!  What goofy weather!  I never made it to my hair appointment.  I got 12 miles down the road and turned around and came home.  The fog was so thick that I couldn't see the car in front of me.  Semis were in the ditch along the interstate and it didn't take long to find a place where I could turn around and creep back home.  Now it is thundering, lightning, and raining again here!  Strange!!!

Michele, yes you still need the D-3.  Our skin makes vitamin D-3 for us when we're in the sun.  It is this specific type of vitamin D that we need for the joint aches and pains.  Believe me, it does work.  I was about ready to give up Arimidex (which I certainly didn't want to do) before I added magnesium and vitamin-D to my arsenal of meds!

Laura...thanks for the shoe site.  I've never tried it but I'm going shopping there this week and see what I can find!

The Peoria Race for the Cure is always the Saturday before Mother's Day...that's May 10th this year.  Mary Jane's daughter is organizing a team and volunteered to include any of us who wanted to walk.  I need to check with her to be sure she still wants to do this and if not, I'll get the info that we need.  I'll get back with you on it, but the date is firm.

Jackie, you are almost finished with the first leg of your journey!  Yeah for you!  I hope it goes well this week for you.

Well, it is lightning so much here that I'm going to get off the computer.  I'll catch you all tomorrow.

Take care ladies!  I hope you all had a good day!

..." authors note that vitamin D3 and calcium, alone or in combination, are often recommended for prevention of osteoporotic fractures. Inadequate intake of vitamin D3 and calcium intake might increase fracture risk by increasing bone resorption and loss from secondary hyperparathyroidism, and vitamin D3 may also protect against falls resulting in fracture. Data from randomized trials suggest that the combination of calcium and vitamin D3 may be helpful."

    Michele

yet another part telling about a study said there wasnt much dif. between d and d3, maybe use these up and change next time? kater

    Good Morning everyone,

FrownIt's gray, gray, gray here, with a little fog.  Maybe two inches of rain later ( could we get any soggier after the warm rain that melted our 11 inches of snow ) and the late afternoon brings the threat of tornadic activity.  It's going to be anything but a nice day for sure.

As to vitamins...I am on a vitamin D supplement, along with what is in my Centrum, and then in addition Calcium.  The Dr. said the D and Calcium are synergistic with each other and if you are taking extra of one....I guess you should get some extra of the other.  I'm thinking all D vitamins have some 3 in them....just how much is the question.

I think I used to be a bit more well read about many of these things, but I seem to forget more every day.  I'm reading things over and over and finding any powers of retention seem almost non-existent Hmmmm.

Well may as well get the day started and let little Boss have an outside romp before the rain.

    I'll be checking in later.

    Jackie

Good morning on this mushy, slushy, wet day!  Get out those golashes and babushkas!

Nancy-Susan-Mich-I would love to do the Y-Me walk on Mother's Day. Since it's a small group, maybe we can all register individually.

And...I will still be organizing our Team: No Surrender for the Komen one in Sept. - Heck...it's a tradition now!

Rita - I will definately be a part of your Peoria team. Keep me posted about the details.

These boots were made for walking...

Afternoon!  No graphics today as photobucket is down for maintenance.

Jackie...you know, I was thinking about you in the shower (and everybody, put your eyebrows down!!!).  You don't have a port I know and no one offered one to you.  So you had 4 AC and now are going to have 12 Taxotere's, correct?  That really surprises me.  Good luck tomorrow with chemo and getting there!  I don't think you will be getting what we will be getting...right now it is up to 12-15 inches.  C**p.  Double C**p.

Nothing else much new around here....just ran every errand I could think of as I know DH will want to take the SUV tomorrow.  School will most probably be called off but administrators still have to go to their buildings.  And no, I have no idea why.  The maint. staff takes care of the snow and parents SHOULD BE intelligent enuf to either check the radio/tv or the school website.

Well....I'm hungry and then I promised myself I would sit down and work on the taxes...already did an hour and I figure a couple of more and then I will be ready to fill in all the blanks on the forms from the acct. and then I will be done with that!

Everyone....enjoy today and tomorrow...well, tomorrow is whatever Mother Natures brings us, I guess.  And short of moving in the next 12 hours, I think we're all stuck.

    Hi gals...

Gee Wendy, a day without graphics is indeed a gray day!  And speaking of gray, it is raining here and we are expected to get snow tomorrow but nothing like what they seem to be predicting for you northern gals!  Yikes!!!  You'll really be buried in the house if it all shows up!  I can't believe that your hubby has to go in to the school even if the school is closed.  Our administrators make bus runs sometimes if they are in real doubt about the conditions but that's it for them and sometimes I think they just go by the reports and a quick look out the door.

Jackie...good luck tomorrow!  How far do you have to travel for your treatments?

Laura, I will keep you informed on the Peoria Walk.  Mary Jane said that the registration site is not yet open for registration.  They are willing to change their team name to No Surrender for us, too.  Who else wants to join us?  Spouses and other family members are welcome, too.  I think the survivor walk starts at 7:15 in the morning and the regular walk is at 8:00.  I have an extra bedroom and a couple of couches if any of you want to come in the night before.  I'll post more on it later.

Hope everyone is making it through this depressing weather O.K.  It's so good for the morale!  LOL

I have to get a few things done around here.  Bowling kept me occupied this morning and now I have about an hour before I have to take the cat to the vet for his check-up and arthritis med refill appointment.  To put it bluntly...the trip to the vet is a gut-wrenching nightmare and one I'd rather not participate in, but we're going to give it a valiant try in a bit.

Travel safely, ladies.  Catch you later.

    Rita
