Graceembraced I plan on leading our team again for the American Cancer Society "Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk again in Chicago (October). It's 3 mile walk. So if you don't do the Avon walk this spring consider the Strides Walk.

Kristin: Yay!
I, too, have problems with sleep. My MO does not want me to get too hooked on Ambien or lorazapam, which both help me sleep. I will be starting biofeedback next week-20 sessions. Supposed to help me sleep with no drugs. We shall see...

YEA Kristin! Hopefully you feel a little better now about the additional tests!
Hi C-Squared! Glad to see a post from you. I've never taken anything for my insomnia and probably should have done so. Now I think it's evolved into a bad sleep pattern for me. I exist on about 5 hours of sleep a night and I know that is not good for you.
Loved the quote today, Jackie! How true!
I hope everyone had a good Monday!

Jackie, Loved the quote too! I love all your quotes! Thank you!

Timbuktu hahahahahahaha---U'r right an arthritis walk--LOL it would only be about4 or maybe 1 mile for the better ones. I'm laughing cuz at the beginning I was told I had some arthritis but nothing unusual--at the end I was told I am loaded with loads of it and it must be painful--duh yea. Sometime we forget what else this beast has caused.or we ended up with all of a sudden.

Did the cancer cause the arthritis? Is it the AI's? I had a bad knee before the cancer. Then the Ai's hurt on top of it.
And the weight I've gained from the treatments haven't helped.

Yikes! 60 miles in two days, maybe the Strides is for me. I'm also looking into our local Relay for Life. I am so ready to lose the weight chemo and steroids put on me the last ten months. Sorry for complaining about the weight, as my DD tells me...I'm alive!
Have a great day to all0 -
Yes, but carrying too much wt. seems to be not too good for people --- it can 'encourage' cancer. Theres your out.....but yes. We are alive and complaints remind us that there are things we can change and do that are better for us Now if I can just keep re-reading what I have written here and apply it to myself.
Love & peace,
Jackie

Hello Ladies, I have a friend that is about to lose her health insurance and will not be able to afford cobra. She has melinoma and multiple other health issues. She lives in Illinois so I was wondering if someone here has a name of an insurance company that would accept pre existing that they have been pleased with. Thanks Onward

Also I was at the American Cancer Society yesterday filling out my application for being a part of the Reach for recovery program. (Breast cancer patients who want to reach out to others). They are having a class on Jan. 28 in Oak Brook Terrace if anyone is interested. I would be glad to pick you up. Onward

Onward - did you get a call to go to the training? I signed up a few months ago and then someone called me and said they would send me information and I never got anything. I don't have the phone number to the person I spoke with anymore....anyone? I want to get involved but they are not responding......

I've been a Reach to Recovery volunteer since November. My training was just a 1/2 hour phone. I think I was matched with someone a few weeks later. This is out of the Chicago office. If you need a contact in the Chicago office let me know.
I've also signed up with Imerman's Angels but haven't been matched with anyone. I think they focus more on younger survivors.
Onward I hate to say thing but Cobra might be the cheapest option. I don't know if any health insurance is excepting pre-condition till 2014 when it's the law. She might also contact ACS (since she has melanoma) and they might be able connect her.

Timbuktu---I have no idea what the cancer caused but I do know that sometreatments cause more SE than was ever thought about. And we all have something depending on what treatments we had. So IMHO I think arthritis is from one or more of the treatments that I got.

Just dropping in to say "hi".

HI everyone from me too. I have gotten so far behind in reading posts but I think of you all often. I am heading into the city tomorrow to see my BS for my annual check-up. Not expecting any big news, but glad to touch base with her.
Unfortunately, my DH came down with that ugly flu last night and is having a tough day. We both had flu shots so hopefully, he will be able to knock it out pretty quick and that I will not catch it from him. We were supposed to head out on our road trip to Arizona this weekend where we plan to spend a couple months. Obviously, we will be delaying our departure til DH is feeling better. This flu bug is serious stuff this year. I heard today that the flu shot only is about 65% effective in preventing the flu, but that it should help lessen the severity and length of the illness. Guess my DH falls in that 35%.
Sounds like we have alot of insomniacs in the group. I have a good friend who is a pharmacist in Denver. She says that Ambien is by far the biggest seller in her pharmacy. Personally, Tylenol PM knocks me out good and I have no problem waking in the morning. But now that my spine surgeon put me on Lyrica, I have no problem sleeping, zzzzzzzz!

cami, I've been off of the Aromasin for a week now and I feel like a different person. The same person I used to be, if a little more tired. But the aches are going and I feel so much clearer thinking and happier. Of course I'm scared to be off of it but what a choice!

Timbuktu are u off already? Did the Dr. take u off or how did this happen.?

I take a half Klonopin at bedtime to help me sleep thought the night. I started a few years ago with a whole tab at bedtime, but then I decided to try and stop. I was still on Femara then, and between that and my surgipause, I started waking up in the middle of the night again. So I started back on the Klonopin, but Tried just half a tab and I sleep great!
I've also ceased caring about whether or not I'll get dependent on it. Sleep = Good.0 -
I hope I didn't put this quote in last week and forgot. Some I really like I leave for a bit...not always the ones I use....if this is a repeat from a short while back, my apologies.
"Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start."

I found out that my genetics test was negative! My husband and I were both thrilled! What a relief! Although, now it seems I have a sinus infection starting up and my surgery is only 8 days away. Waiting to see if my dr orders an antibiotic or not. Hope this doesnt interfere with my surgery.
Thanks for the welcomes from everyone! I'm finding these boards very helpful!

jzog...What good news! Those sinus infections have been pretty wicked this year. I think just about every family has somebody who has been hit with it.
Onward, I have been part of the Reach to Recovery program for 5 years now and it is so rewarding to be able to help someone who has recently been diagnosed. In fact, I have gained some very good friends through this. You will be very good at this!
Joan, I hope your trip is not postponed for very long. I'm sure you're ready to get out of here. Hope hubby gets over that stuff quickly and that you avoid it.
Hi Spunky! Glad you popped in! Have a great day.
Timbuktu...I'm not sure that cancer causes arthritis but I do think that it aggravates pre-existing arthritic conditions. I've formed that opinion just from my own situation. Once I finished with the Arimidex, my joint problems have diminished. Every once in a while I have some aches but nothing like when I was on the pill.
Well I'm off to write some scholastic bowl questions. Catch you all later. Have a good day.

Welcome chgogemini. Glad that you found this great forum. Lots of help from experienced ladies. I will PM you with the name of my BS at Northwestern. I am sitting in her exam room right now for my annual follow-up.
Renee.. what the heck is Klonopin? Available at Walgreens?0 -
Hi chgogemini--welcome, but I'm truly sorry it has to be here. It sounds like u've had some tests done--what Dr. did them. There are so many good Drs. in the Chicago area I'm sure they'll be a lot ofsuggestions. I was in Elmhurst hospital and I had a great team of Drs. so I was happy with my Drs. but I would think u'd want to stay close to home, adnd there are a lot of Drs. in so many hospitals No one wants chemo and anything else with this beast of a disease but please remember there is so much help out there now with good results. And u can certainly be one with good results. Others will come on, if u are western, how far are u--I'm now at Cetral Dupage Hospital and zI like my team of Drs. (I moved)

cami, I took myself off. I was taking so many pills my stomach was a mess. So I decided to give myself a week to get normal and then introduce things back one at a time and see what the problem is. I'll go back on the aromasin now.
Then each week I'll add something else. I've been taking atenolol and Tekturna for blood pressure, aromasin for bc, metformin for bc, 4000 vitamin D, fish oil, calcium, lol that's all I can remember off hand! And you're not supposed to take them on an empty stomach but then it's hard to lose weight too! lol
I feel so great today, i hate to start again. But the aromasin is a must.
I saw a friend today who is a dr and his wife had bc. She was on arrimidex for only 2 years! Ive never heard of that before. She had a double mastectomy. She must have been at a very early stage or something.

I saw a friend today whose husband had brain cancer. SHE developed arthritis! She said since he got sick she's developed multiple physical problems. Stress, inflammation, etc. She swears by fish oil.

Joan - Klonopin is Clonazepam, and its a prescription only medication. It's given a lot for anxiety, as well as some other stuff.

Timbuktu-I haf a friend on AI for four years and she asked her doc what studies showed regarding taking it for 4 vs. 5 years-he said there hadn't been anything that showed a benefit beyond 2 years. He said its common to lump AIs in with tamoxifen, which has been proven to have the greatest benefit at 5years. Of course, this is just one opinion.
