Illinois ladies facing bc

Good afternoon!
We're getting some light flurries here as I type. It snowed pretty hard for about an hour this morning but there was no accumulation to speak of.
Jackie...go figure! I actually gained weight while doing chemo! LOL
Blackjack....I haven't been to Captiva but I did go to Sanibel when were in FL last month and they're neighbors and supposedly very similar. I loved Sanibel. The shells were outstanding on that beach compared to the one at Fort Myers. I've never been to Hawaii so I don't have a comparison there, but Sanibel is just lovely.
Laura, the computer isn't here yet. It shipped yesterday and its projected arrival is Thursday so it won't be long. Then they'll have to catch me at home because it requires a signature. Hmmm............ So keep us updated on any changes in the Botox area!!!! I'm crushed that you didn't see immediate instantaneous results.
Connie...thanks for telling us again about your upcoming surgery. That will be here before you know it and both you and Michele will have something new to sport! I'm sure I would have made the same decision if I was your age.
Hope everyone is doing well today. I went and bowled (very terribly I must admit) and had lunch with the gals so I need to get motivated and do something productive around here. I'll probably be back later.

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Leesa and Calypso. Leesa I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow. I get all my tests at Rush North Shore, but I had chemo at my docs office. Calypso, I'm not sure we ever get over it, but in time we do learn ways to cope. I think the ladies here helped me the most with that part. For many the toughest time is right after treatment is finished, and our docs recognize that, but I don't think they always know how to help. I really needed people who had been through it, and that's what I found here.
Connie... Good luck with your appointment tomorrow, and with your upcoming surgery. It's another milestone conquered!
Laura... Can you see results yet? Hope you can, but truthfully I couldn't see a line on your cute chin. I know, it's how you feel that counts, but I think you look terrific! I'll be out of town from the 20th until the 27th, so if you go to lunch please take pictures! I'm sorry to miss another one. I can't believe I'm also leaving March 5th through the 9th. I'm either going nowhere, or it's everywhere at once!
Rita.... I take a size 10AAAA shoe. The only store I can go to is Nordstoms, and luckily I only live a few minutes from Old Orchard, so that's okay. I also have a few catalogs from which I can order. They are marylandsquare.com and auditionsshoes.com. They even have some that are reasonably priced, because shoes that fit me best are costly Stuart Weitzman's. My poor son got my foot, and 12 narrow for men is tough to find. When I was young I hated having such big feet, but now I'm happy when they don't have tingling and burning.
Wedding was great, and I ended up with black pants and black velvet top. The bride and groom are African American, and they still dress up with skirts for church so I didn't want to offend anyone. I'd never met either one before, so wasn't sure what to expect. The groom is the head of anesthesia at the U of Chicago Hospital. They were very nice, and many of my friends were also wearing pants so I didn't stand out. I think I'm like Hillary with the pants suits!
It's snowing here, and looks beautiful, though it is getting a bit tiresome! Two deer were cuddled up resting right next to the bricks under my bedroom window. I think even they are getting tired of this, and ready for spring. Soon there will be little Bambi's in my backyard.
Stay well and warm everyone.

Hi Girls,
Wendy and Jackie I was up at the crack of dawn..5am that is. Had to take the dog out as he is still getting readjusted to beaning home again. I do hate this cold weather..but love the snow..but I can be ready for spring in a heart beat. I decide to do my spring decorating early..spring flowers, bunnies, and butterflies. It does feel like spring and makes me happy.
Laura..I keep my boat at Lake Delavan in Wisc. It is 15 min from Lake Geneva. I am up there every weekend during the summer.
Boating season is so short you have to make the most of it. I really am a water girl at heart. Wave running is my fav thing to do up there. Have you tried it?
Wendy.. I do love Angle food cake too..I like lots of cool whip on mine. I saw some really cute heart shaped jammies..flannel ones at the mall yesterday...Any idea's for sexy flannels..maybe heart shaped flannel pants for dh..lol
Leesa..who are going to see at Rush. My onc is at Rush too. I see here 2/14 so I am nervous too. I really don't want to go has I have some lung issues that could be related to the chest wall from rads.
Connie..I see you and I both have Valentine dates with our doctor's. Do you think that they will give us ladies heart shaped candies for being sweet. lol
Jackie..If you like to read I have a ton of books I could pass on to you esp. if you have to stay in Marion for rads. pm me and I will let you know what I have that may be of interest to you.
tdbear..could you please send sun our way. We need it more. Keep those cute pics coming.
Karin and Julie sending you both a big hug to make you feel better. hang in there. We are all here for you.
Nancyla and Lindamen...how are you doing? let us know
To everyone else take care, stay warm and be happy,be healthy.
Hugs to all

Smerf,
Who do you go to at Rush North Shore? I had my surgery there last year by the head of the surgery dept. He also also teaches at Rush Medical school.

Connie....Just want to wish you good luck tomorrow on that first 3 month check-up. Hope all goes well for you.
Karin...love the hanging cat graphic! How cute! Spring still seems a long way off to me! (sigh, sigh) I didn't realize that you'd be so much earlier than us. Interesting!
Oh my gosh, Pat! You do have narrow feet and here I am whimpering about AA. I found a pair on Zappos that I'm going to order and I'm going to check out those sites you listed too. I love shoes but I haven't been shoe shopping in ages and really need some more variety. It is TIME!!!
Laura, we're anxiously awaiting additional updates on the chin! Still pondering this, Wendy?????
Jackie....hope you had a comfy day and that you're feeling a little better.
Wishing all of you a good evening.

Blackjack,
Sent you a pm. I just had my onc appointment at the end of January. I've been promoted to every four months which feels great! As you may know, I had some back pain issues, but the MRI showed only mechanical back problems. It still hurts, but I don't care right now! My dh thinks I'm slightly crazy, but he doesn't quite get it. Good luck with your three month check up. I'm hoping that it goes ever so smoothly for you, and you can come here to give us all the good news.
Big hug to you!

Hi all! I have a few minutes before having to head for bed! Have to get up at 4 am again.
I'm up for a meeting on the 22nd- just let me know when and where!
Blackjack and Connie- I'm seeing my onc on Valentine's Day as well! Didn't even occur to me what day it was when I made my appt. LOL. It's another 3 month check-up. I'm not really worried about it, since I'm not having any symptoms. Hoping your appts go well!
Leesa- (((hugs))) please let us know how your appt goes tomorrow.
Calypso- it's only been 16 months since my diagnosis and about 7 months since treatment ended. I went through a dark depression last Nov and Dec, but feel better now and find life is too full to think about bc all the time. Hugs to you as well- things will get better!
And hugs to all currently going through treatment. My chemo brain is bad- I can only remember Jackie right now. Who was having the bad vomiting?? I wanted to ask if she was getting Aloxi before her treatment?? Probably is, since she said the doctor had tried everything, but thought I would mention it anyway.
I'm missing all you tough Illinois Gals! Things should be less hectic in my husband's business in the next couple of weeks and I can spend more time reading posts then!
0 -
Jan Clare how fantastic to hear from you again. Gosh, no one round these parts takes off Valentine's Day do they.......well, to much to ask and disease never seems to take a day off so !!!!!!!!!! Glad to hear that things could be less hectic business wise in awhile....
You may have me confused with Julie in regard to vomiting---she posts on the Jan 2008---Ain't It Great mainly, but we are fortunate that she visits us here too. She has had lots of issues...uses Emend I think....some combination isn't just right as she should be doing better. I on the other hand am still working through A/C#4---hooray--hooray, last one of this group but I'm struggling through. Have used hmmmm 3 or 4 paper towel rolls with all the spitting to try and get my mouth half way clear of the mouth liquids the Adriamycin causes. Five days of this now and it's quite tiresome. Not eating well yet....too much darn liquid in the mouth---makes you wonder how much of you is left inside when you keep spitting you out for five days. Well, I'm putting my violin away.......
I've better things to worry about or talk about......just all you be well, have good Dr. appts. and I'll see ya back here soon.
Love, Jackie

Jan thanks for the hug!
Smerf, you're trip neg also, tell me what they treated you with if you don't mind I'm looking for all the info I can get.
Am I the only 2nd timer here. It might just be how I am, I'm always trying to exceed expectations.. ha ha ha
I'm so glad to have found you all.
Thank you thank you thank you

Leesa, I also went to Rush for Surgery, I had Dr. Godellas and I liked him a lot, great incision, etc. He is very good and personable, too.
IT WAS GREAT, AND SEEING SO MANY DOCTORS FAST WAS GOOD TOO. that was the best thing about Rush ...they got me in in days,....Univ of Chicago was slower so i never got there for an opinion.
I always took the train after the first time. taxi then is a short ride to rush.
ON THE DOWN SIDE, WATCH OUT AND COMPLAIN IF THEY DONT TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOU! I NEVER GOT AROUND TO IT...
Recovery room, they left me 1 hour 15 minutes and ignored me, I was pretty mad, I just kept watching my blood pressure at 139 over something. 8-)
they acted like, it was like they didnt get an order to take me to my recovering room, but what kind of excuse is that?! I heard some guy looking for apartments in the background, complaining that he was leaving in two weeks and they asked him to do over time, etc. 8-)
Yet when i asked for help they couldnt hear ME.
Also the nurse was flirting with guy next to me, telling him monday was best day for surgery. because he had to come back.
This was the first surgery of my life....and i was used to watching the monitor when my Dad was in the hospital....so seeing my blood pressure was making me even madder!! 8-)
But all in all, I was very glad I went to Rush, then I went locally thanks to Wendy...25 minutes away, to Delnor..for chemo and radiation.
I'm close, to...west of Elgin. 22nd might work for me..too
Kater
49 and holding. chuckle
as for the lumpectomy girl with clear nodes
(chemo brain and also my dish went down,
must have snowed awhile)
with good results, I'm so happy for you,
i preach and preach and tell people, if you only get it early,
you can be cured...YOU DID well! no lymph node action!
The rest of us just have to be a little more diligent at watching out...
Leesa if you go back we talked about rush a few times.

Leesa? Did you say if you were on tamoxifen or ?
So far no side effects on arimidex, unless maybe it's insomnia right now...could be the Pepsi I had at 2 pm.
Wendy, do you know a good kennels around? Might try to find something when i have to go away a couple days in the future...Kane County...not sure my Mom can handle them this time...I guess there is always the vet!
Did I mention Mom had a good CT scan....chemo seems to be working (ovarian cancer)....carbo and taxol is all she has had and this is the third recurrence.

Morning All! Well...it's cold but at least it's not snowing. Karin...you are right...we don't like you anymore. 60 and you have flowers??? Blackjack...I like your idea...come FRiday am..all Valentine's stuff comes down and up with the flowers and bunnies. I NEED SOME SPRING !!!!!!
Kater...boy you were up early! Actually..one of the gals who works at my gym has a dog sitting business! Donna doesn't work until tomorrow so I will ask. And boy, you were up early!
The 22nd sounds fantastic, unless of course we have another blizzard.
Leesa...of course you are invited! If you don't come, we talk about you, you know!
JanClare...nice to see your pretty face!
Laura...still waiting to see that botoxed chin. And yes Rita, if it worked and it lasts at least 6 months or so...I would be willing to cough up the $300 or so to inject my crater. The rest I will leave alone.
Jackie...jeesh! You are having a bad time of it. I am sooo glad this is the last one of these! I have books as well that I would be glad to lend to you...let us know.
Julie...how are you doing?
Smerf, everybody else having/had appts....you are doing good! And I agree...so what if the back hurts, it's not anything CA-related!!! Yippee!! And my DH doesn't get it either. Only we "special" people do.
I see by all these posts that I am going to have to start checking in in the evening...we are such a chatty little bunch! And that is good! Off to get DH off to school.
Leese...only if you want...you could PM LauraGTO and send her your add, Phone # (cell too), BD, bc Anniv date. It's just a private little list that only our little group has and we of course would never give out info...just our way of maybe sending a little note, or a card or whatever. Just an idea. I did get your PM and I will save your number. HAVE FUN IN FLORIDA !!!! You sure deserve it and you enjoy every single minute of your time with your kids!
Later.....

Ooops...Karin...I was only kidding. I still like you. Just the thought of flowers and 60's....boy, you are one lucky girl!
Jackie...love your new avatar!
Stupid chemobrain...just easier to write a 2nd post than to try and correct the first!

Morning ladies -
Wow - we are all seeing the Dr. on Valentine's day. Weird. My appt was actually supposed to be Monday, but they called in the am and said they made a mistake and only had me down for labs so we switched it to Thursday. I was already planning on being home from work Thursday to help out with the V-day parties at school.
I think I might be able to make lunch on the 22nd. I am usually off on Friday's. I would just have to be back by 3 to pick up my kids. I remember last time you guys had like a 20 hour lunch!
Glad to hear your mom had a good scan, Kater! Keep the faith! And cute pictures you emailed out!
Have a great day ladies.

Hi all,
Well what a big surprise..........not really. We are having a light snow. Not too menacing but as it's my day to go to Marion I'm not at all taken by surprise. Seems since my dx it has always been crappy in some way when I go to Marion....rain, wind, etc.
A little good news.....I told Dh last night that I was basically ready to scream and would tear my hair out if I had any.....which probably meant that I was ready to turn the corner on this set of se's. It's been a long 6 days.....but I was able to drink a half a cup of coffee this a.m. Yah-Hooray-Wa-Hoooooo. This is definitely the start of something good. I will probably be able to eat nearly a whole meal sometime today and hopefully find something to drink....skin is pretty papery????right now so I need fluids.
So thankful for the offer of books to read Wendy & Blackjack. It will be a boredom lifesaver. Of course......I'll have to return them in person won't I?????
Couple of things....Blackjack--you said something about a tubular cancer---is that the same as Papillary which I'm told grows something like a finger??? Maybe I'll do a search....interesting...
As well, how long do the breast bruises take to go away after surgery???? Anyone still have theirs???
Ok, I'm going to just say a great big warn non-snowy hello to everyone this bright and beautiful morning ( se's be gone ) and wish you all a great day like I plan to have.
Jackie
oops!!!Wendy, I meant to tell you......love the graphic this a.m.

Hi to all,
The sun is shining, but it's 12 degrees. Oh well, I'll take it. After all, you can't have everything, can you? At least not all at the same time.
Jackie...good luck at docs appointment. It may not be a bruise by this time. They often use a blue dye when mapping the sentinal node for biopsy. It's not unusual for that dye to leak into skin lymphatics and takes a LONG time to go away. It happened to me, and it took about a year and a half to resolve. I referred to it as my smurf boob, but it's back to normal now. Glad you're feeling better, and can take fluids now. I had to give up coffee and diet coke for the whole duration of chemo. Water tasted terrible, but crystal lite worked. It's all so individual, isn't it?
Connie...Good luck tomorrow at your appointment. I had surgery the day after Valentine's day in '06. It did inspire my dh to start sending flowers again, so there's a positive side though I'd probably give up flowers rather than have bc!
Leesa...You can ask anything, anytime. I'm happy to be helpful if I can. I had 4 txs of AC, followed by 12 weekly taxols. My oncs first choice would have been taxotere, but I had so much tearing and swelling of my eyelids from the adriamycin that she switched to taxol. It's rare during AC, but is more common with taxotere, and since I already had it they thought it would just get worse. Then I had seven weeks of radiation. My tumor is right on the chest wall, so rads doc said he would want to do radiation even if I had a mastectomy so I went ahead with partial mastectomy {lumpectomy.} Hope this is some help. I had another opinion who would have just used AC for me, and then radiation. I chose the more agressive chemo because of size of tumor, and triple neg. I'd love to meet you at a future get together, but take pictures for those who can't make the 22nd! My dh and I will be in Colorado where he skis, and I hike and visit art galleries, and read without guilt about cleaning house.
JanClare....So happy to hear from you! I guess it's a good thing for hubby's business to be busy, but yikes! 4AM? I always marvel at your energy.
Kater....Great about your mom's scans! I had insomnia before bc, and now it's just worse. My kids think I don't need any sleep, but they are so wrong. I never had a hot flash, so I'm grateful for that, but menopause made me more of a nightowl than I already was.
Julie...Hope you're feeling better, and I'm sorry it's so tough on you. hang in there, you'll get it done! Big hugs to you.
I'm off to look at more tile, but I think I have one bathroom chosen. I didn't know there were so many choices out there! I also need two sinks for each, and counter tops. I'm getting tired of thinking about it, but it must be done. Also, have a mammo on my good boob at 1PM. I hate that time, right in the middle of the day, but they are usually on time. The docs just want to start watching the scarring from the reduction surgery.
Have a great day, and enjoy the sun!!

Hi Neighbors!
If any of you want to be on the private e-mail list, here's the info we'll need (you don't have to provide all the info if you don't want to - we use the list to send b-day cards or congrat cards. And...it's good to have each other's phone numbers just in case.) Just send the info via a PM to me and I will update the list and e-mail it to everyone:
Name (first and last)
address
home phone #
cell phone
e-mail addy
birthday
dx date
mets or recurrence date
-------------------------
I'll get the ball rolling here...please make suggestions!
How about Schaumburg for a meeting place? I think that might be a good central location? But I realize for those of you who are further west...it might not be. Or perhaps somewhere off of I90 - one of the west exits...Huntley or rte 59 or Randall road...don't know...help! Also, once we know who wants to attend...that will help determine the location.
Lemme know!
Have a great day...gotta get back to work here. I'm creating Easter products...

Hi again....I can do any of the places that Laura suggested for lunch. Connie wants to come but she needs to be back in Aurora by 3pm to p/u her kids so maybe she could suggest a place.
Connie...what N/S street/main drag would be good for you? 31? 59? Randall?
Hmmmmm....Schaumberg = Woodfield=shopping!!!!!!!

Flowers & spring thoughts to you all!!!
It's OK I'm used to people being mad at me for our nicer weather!
We had an indoor picnic last weekend BBQ in the garage ( with door open!!!) Fake spring flowers and picnic tablecloth. Was kinda fun!
At least you get sunshine with snow.....we just get rain & wind and MORE rain!
Keep warm!

Hi all,
Connie, just popping in to say good luck! Julie and Jackie, I hope you are both feeling better. Yes we are getting people mixed up here because there are so many, but I do know that Jackie and Julie are on watch list here for not feeling so great. I hope this momenet finds you turning into a healthier mode.
Have fun at lunch. I will be right in the midst of parent teacher confeerences but will be thinking of you all.
Susan0 -
Rt 59 or Randall is a good main drag for me. I'm not sure what restaurants are up near those roads and I90 though. Woodfield is also fine. My mom lives right near there so I know I can make it up there in about 45 minutes. If we did lunch around 11:30, I would just need to leave by 2pm. That should be plenty of time to be served, then I can take off and you guys can stay till 5 pm chatting!!

Quick question, anyone have the BRCA test? My grand daughter is doing a term paper, plus we will be "taking the test"soon.
Thanks

Ladies, THANKS for all the support. Calypso here. Almost feel bad about feeling bad, because I'm supposed to be feeling "lucky". Hah! Am supposed to be making a follow-up appointment with my surgeon, but have been putting that off because just kinda don't want to walk into that office again.... bc.....EEYYUUUUUK!
But am feeling much better today now that the sun is finally shining again here in...Schaumburg! Yeah, I work here 5 days a week (live further north in Mundelein). So Schaumburg would be great for me! Would love to get one of those hugs in person. And have some to give you all, too.

Afternoon from Centralia
Well, it quit snowing and the sun is out---there is a God, but I did know that. Turns out that my Dr. couldn't make it to the hospital today so had to put the appt. off till this coming Wednesday. Truthfully, I would have liked to have gotten it done........I've been in a bit of a hurry to get all my cancer type things done and out of the way. Not only is it a devastating disease, but the life interruptions are hard to tolerate.....if your young and have so much that HAS to be done, or a little older like me and so much you just WANT to do. It definitely is a life changer when you meet it.
Smerf....if you were here I'd give you such a hug. I have been avoiding asking the still have a purple breast question. I talk braver than I am apparently because I should have been "checking" about this long before........so a million thanks. I can now RELAX-RELAX-RELAX.
Speaking of the mouth/food issues that are better today......I found some Luigi's Italian Ice at the store and wow do they taste good. Even eating them on my cheap Wallace stainless ( set for 12 ) doesn't impart any bad aftertaste. Just kidding.....when it's time for my body to accept food stuffs nothing much throws a monkey wrench in the works....mores the pity.
Followed that up with a can of Dole's pineapple/orange juice. Something I ordinarily like....tasted like grapefruit juice..go figure.
Anyway.....sure wish I could do a lunch date..........hmmmmm, one of these days it will happen.
Calypso.....of course you will feel better---sunshine improves everything and as far as a visit with all the Illinois BC girls, that has got to be the best icing on any cake you have ever had. I bet you'll hardly think about ---- you know what --- and that is a lot of what its for......so go, have fun, relax and enjoy ----and just remember who is sitting in Centralia all by herself going boo-hoo. Just kiddin' which is something I probably do best.
See ya'll later.
Jackie

Ok, now I'm going to finish my post. I may try some crystal light later. I can do Coke all right....and coffee with creamer---only drink one cup anyway.....so that's why I hate to give it up.....but just can't tolerate it during those few days after a tx. At least of the A/C.
Do you still get "weirded out" on food with the other chemo's???
Is it just for a few days after or like Smerf who just had to get through the whole thing first?
Inquiring minds want to know?????
Well, at least I do.
Jackie

Hi Karin....I had the BRCA test due to my Dad and his Sister having bc, bu they had it in their 80"s and each lived another 10-14 years respectively with no recurrance. I was negative by the way. Does she need some info or something? The website FORCE is great for genetic testing! By the way, my onc did say that since male breast cancer is so rare there probably is a genetic link, they just don't have a test for it - so he told me for now just to keep my breasts right where they are!
Connie said either Randall Road (we could go back to Algonquin area - there are other rest. in that mall) or on Rt 59 and Rt 72 there is Claimjumpers or by Woodfield - TAKE YOUR PICK!!! Laura, you are so good at arranging - got any ideas? Or Blackjack lives in Schaumberg - any ideas????
Well...back to "Hannah Montana" and my 6.5 year old grandniece. I HATE "Hannah Montana".

Good afternoon!
What a busy day! I bowled with my new bowling team this morning. They are so much fun and I didn't disgrace myself.......bowled about average. Then I grabbed a quick snack and headed for Bunco, where I ALWAYS have a ball and NEVER win! Still, I wouldn't miss it for anything! LOL Now I've got about an hour and I need to head for the Youth Night at the church. I think I will be exhausted when I get done there.
I'm so glad that some of you gals are planning another outing. I do wish I was a little closer. I'd love to be able to join you!
Jackie, I had my sentinel node biopsy and surgery a year ago at Christmas. My boob is still blue around the nipple area. It is beginning to fade a little, but still very noticeable. I'm so glad that you're feeling a little better today.
My laptop has arrived. My cleaning lady signed for it and it was waiting on the dining room table for me when I got home a few minutes ago. Maybe later I'll play with it a bit and see if I can get the battery charged, etc. I have a friend who's going to help me set up the wireless connection and my email account on it on Friday so hopefully I"ll be ready to move into town for a few afternoons of research and question writing next week. Technology does not come real easy for me so it may take me some time to get it up and working but I"ll get it done eventually.
The sun does wonders for my spirit and moods, too Calypso. Spring can't come too soon for me. I'm so envious of Karin! LOL
Kater...glad to hear that you Mom is doing well. That's so great!
JanClare...always good to hear from you. You have a very demanding schedule. I know that I wouldn't be able to keep up with you anymore!
I hope everybody is doing well today. I need to get moving.
Rita

O.K. Blackjack....I think we were posting at the same time. You've made me hungry and I'm going in search of a snack, too. LOL All of those places sound wonderful! We did eat at the Cheesecake Factory when we came up and did our Christmas shopping trip...........oooh......wonderful!
