    Smerf,

I have a big pond and waterfall in by backyard. It has 15 multicolored kio fish. They are very big about 1-2 pds each. I also had 6 new babies this summer so I hope they survive the winter. I keep a heater and a bubblier inside the pond all winter but turn off the waterfall. My pond is my pride and joy as the fish will eat out of my hand when I feed them. It is so relaxing so sit outside and listen

to the waterfall and have a glass of wine. So you see I am truly a water girl at heart. Only thing missing is the beach and the cabana boys lol . Have a great trip and talk to you when you get back.

Laura..my dh had his b-day yesterday too. He is double nickles now lol. I made his fav poppy seed cake. But big cookies sound very yummy too. Hope the weather clears up soon..I am getting pretty soggy from all this rain.lol We need sun soon!!

Good idea Laura about giving a loved one the phone number of one of the gals on the thread so they can contact them if needed.  I will give both Dave and my son your number and of course Mary Jane will also be aware of any problems that I might have and she'll pop on and tell you, I'm sure.  Although we hope we never have to make that call, it is a good idea.

Pat...have a great trip!  I am so glad you and your hubby can get away and enjoy new areas, activities, and each other's company.  I think it's great.  Just have fun!!!

Today was a very lazy day for me.  I spent most of the afternoon playing with my new computer and then made a trip to WallyWorld for all those things you need but just hate to buy!  All in all, it was pretty nice just to be lazy.

Now I think I'll finish off the lazy day by reading my book.  I hope you all had a good weekend.

    Catch you tomorrow!

    all off topic

    NIU and Laurie Dann incident

    Smerf

I dont remember the LD incident.

I was thinking today, they have to start changing things. We know these people are sick, i have relatives myself who need help but because of privacy laws, unless they SAY they are gonna kill themselves or us...for sure...police wont take them.

This relative said I WANT TO KILL MYSELF but I'm not gonna.

hmmmmm how can they say that is normal and not dangerous???

Two years later she is STILL having delusions and paranoia and now after NIU incident...I wonder if she'll ever shoot me, as she thinks i'm in cohoots with some secret imagined being.

One of my friends, had niece who was close to two of the victims through friends and she is pretty shook up, she might have trouble picking a college as I was told she already stresses about things and this is really upsetting her...

    CHICAGO weekend past

Had a "we are turning 50" weekend in Chicago, just got back

    offtopic

(TOOK MOM TO CASINO MICHELE 101....THOUGHT OF YOU A LOT! I WAS WINNING IN 5 CENT SLOT MACHINE probably 20 + times, countless times for 2.5 hours and then i finally lost my 40 dollars invested). 8-)

I usually do 10 but I figured i was having midlife crisis.

    6 girlfriends gathered...

St. Louis, 4.5 hour drive...Door County 4.5 hour drive

    flights from colorado, south carolina

    two locals plus me

Palmer house booked us a smoking set of adjoining rooms...

    wrong!

so they put us on executive floor so we had free passes to breakfast, lunch, beverages, wow! had a lot of perks.

fitness center was also free cause the pool was closed for reconstruction.

    my favorite was the spa...

finally got it coordinated to get facial....most everyone got pedicures...

    one got a massage...

my face feels great! The girl kind of SNORTED when she asked,

"when was your last facial?" and I said when I was married, 1985.

Went to Back Room blues band thing....Italian restaurant....Chicago Pizza friday night, had a lot of cab rides...and

non stop talk of grade and high school and some college. chuckle.

Oh and saw Millenium park the other side of it...ice sculptures neat...

that mirror thing was AWESOME, much better than the photos i've seen of daytime..the night skyline was just too cool...(of course i forgot my good camera memory card so only have treo shots)...

Life is good....BC instigated this get together no doubt...but next time they thought maybe NOT winter....the WI friend had to leave saturday night cause of storm midnight, and sure enough, it started raining at midnight (of course we were still out!!)

Morning!  Sure was glad to see they were wrong about the snow.  Flurries here but wind picking up and I see it will be 3 in Chgo by this time tomorrow which usually means 5 degrees less by me.  Oh well....at least no snow so my fairy did her work well!

I'm not a church goer at all.  I'm thinking that if there is a God up there, he (she?) can hear me just fine from my deck, or taking a walk along the Fox River.  That I don't do the church thing I am sure stems from Catholic schools and my DH spending 23 yrs of his career with the archdiocese and seeing what really goes on behind closed doors.  I like Jackie's thought re: need/prayer.  That makes a great deal of sense to me.

Kater...wow!  You had some weekend!  Good for you!

Laura...good idea about the phone numbers.  I'm just going to print out an extra copy of the addy list and thumbtack it up in the office and tell DH where it is, just in case.

Blackjack...lucky you with the pond/waterfall.  I just have a little plug-in water feature on the deck but I love the sound of the water splashing.  So soothing.

Smerf...have a wonderful time!  Wishing for your DH those free tickets!

I know I wanted to comment on some of the other posts but as usual I forgot what I wanted to say to who, and if I go back a page I will lose this comment.  I think I need to start printing out again...this time for me!  So...those I didn't say anyting back to...well...duh, chemobrain.

OH......the book-thing.  I don't read true-crime books.  I do medical mysteries (the nurse in me) and I do Koontz and King (eerie, sci-fi stuff) so if any of those you would like to borrow, Jackie...let me know.

Connie....would you like to read "Duma Key"?  I'd be glad to lend it to you on Friday.

Time to move my butt...Oh.....nope, not a clue what the word "avatar" means.  Maybe I will look that up on the on-line dictionary.  Well...I mean I know what it "means" but not what it means.  Oh--never mind.  You know what I mean...

    Have a good one!

    Hi everyone,

It was 57 here most of yesterday....and occasional sun as well.  Made you feel so hopeful...almost energetic.  Well, I knew it was a wee bit early....today it is in the 30's and snow flurries due whenever so I guess we will continue to do the winter-spring---winter-spring for who knows how long.  Takes the happy out of camper for me.

Ok...I probably mentioned somewhere along the way...I don't do the Church thing either.

I know our spirituality exists within us...there is none in Church--other than what you give to this building while you are there.  My Church is always around me.....in the trees, the sunsets, definitely the water, beautiful animals.  Ok done....

Kater:  When you were in St. Louis...you were just about an hour or so from me.  Centralia, Illinois is almost directly due east of St. Louis.  Surprised to see that.  You sure sounded like you got the star treatment.....good for all of you.

Like Wendy....thought I'd copy my phone list for Dh.  I often speak of all of you and while he doesn't keep up too well, he knows that this is a major part of my life now and will probably be that way for a long, long time.  He is fine with that.  Anything that will help mescores high points with him and he is thrilled and is always encouraging about my time on the computer.  I have a list of several things I need to do that are costly......and he even thinks I should get the new pc first.....and I might.  This thing does a reject on lots of things simply because I'm past being able to update things any longer.

Wendy....good idea about copying pages for reply.   I've always had some trouble with memory....but lately it's pathetic.  I'd feel bad, but I had to forgive myself about that and move on after my stroke--so I can sure do the same now---rather easily.

I like the idea of any medical mysteries.....that has an appeal since I did some nursing ( Medical Corpsman ) in the army.  Pick out the two you enjoyed most....I'll like them.

Blackjack....you can do the same--pick out your two favorites...I'll like them.  There, I'm all set.

    Hope you are all fine.

I'll  close with this saying which I decided I really liked.

If you stand up and be counted from time to time you may get yourself knocked down.

    But remember this:

A man ( or woman ) flattened by an opponent can get up again.

A man ( or woman ) flattened by conformity stays down for good.

OMG Wendy (forgive the pun here) but you mention of being able to find G.d on the deck as easily as in a church. That really reminded me of when my girls were little and we took a pass on church on Sunday. We have woods behind us and I would say we were going to do "Outdoor Services" today and we would go into the woods for some thoughtful silence. They actually grew up believing it was a legitimate alternative to services (maybe they were right). Recently, as adults now, we all sat around talking about how nice those outdoor services were. Funny!

hey, crime story lovers.....do go see Michael Clayton. I also think there is a book.

Dh and I both are off today (courts for him and school for me) so we are trekking to the art museum. Sorta like playdate for the two of us. Rita, is this what retirement is all about? You just get up and go somewhere where other people work to make things work for me? I like it.

    Have a good day!

Blackjack, I too have a pond & waterfall! My dh HAND dug it for me (us) 16 years ago. We have so many Koi now I can't count them!  When the grand kids were little I'd let them stick their toes in the water & the fish would "kiss" their toes! Now to many cats loose in neighborhood have to have a net over it.

Busy weekend, sun was out and almost warm! Don't hate me but my crocus are up! But rain for rest of week!

I for got .......never mind d*mn chemo brain!

tdbear..I love my pond as it is sooo relaxing listening to the waterfall. Do you have a problem with lots of algae in the summer?.

I get it all over my lights and can't get it off with out hitting the lights and moving them. What kind of water flowers do you have inside the pond? I am always looking for new ones besides water lillies.

Thanks for any info you may have.

Blackjack, Yes algae is a problem I've found a new product that sounds like it will work ( The PondMarket Pond Scrubber Combo Kit  http://www.pondmarket.com/Algae.htm ) I've been using stuff that looks ground charcoal but it just makes the algae clump & fall to the bottom.

I used to have "seaweed" type plants but my fish kept eating them! I do sooo love the sound of the waterfall I put a small fountian right outside my front door!

    We should trade pictures!

    FAQ:
Red X in Web site and/or email - What does it mean?

    Answer:
Red X's will typically appear for one of the following reasons: 1) a link to an image has changed, 2) a link to an image has been removed, or 3) your email client or browser is unable to display that type of image.

In the case of the first two instances, the image will need to be reinserted in order to appear. This may be a problem on the sender or host's side. In that case, it may be helpful to notify the host that the image is missing from his/her email or Web site.

In the case of a browser or email client unable to display images, there is typically a setting which would allow a user to turn the display of graphics OFF, which would cause the X's to appear. To fix this, place your mouse cursor over the obstructed image and right-click your mouse. If available, select the Show Picture link to see if the image reappears.

    Hi all,

I only got red X's as well....nothing I tried made a difference.  In fairness to all......my computer needs to be replaced as likely the program that handles opening pics and other things is so old that it will only do certain ones now......and I don't know which those are.  I'm not too good on this machine though I have a couple of my friends fooled big time.  I have patiently explained that I'm only teaching them things I learned myself accidentally or that someone else taught me...........and the well will run dry soon....but they still think I'm an absolute whiz.

Had to take my friend Maggie to the hospital today before Dh went to work.  Feed all her cats and dog and then do all the feral cats....don't know where I got the strength, but I managed it.  Going to be hard keeping up the next few days....I called someone else and they will do the afternoon feeding at Maggie's and as well a couple of the feral cat places.  I'm pooped but that's ok.

Tdbear and Blackjack....the fish ponds sound so pretty.  One thing...water, any water is very spiritual so you are nourshing yourself in that way.  Even a fountain on the deck....doesn't have to be an ocean.  So good for you.

Wendy...do send a list of the Palmer stories.  I'm sure I'll really enjoy....just as long as I don't have to so a book report.

Well, I'm going to go rest for a bit....been on the go since before noon and it's just after 6p.m. now.

    Talk to ya'll later.

It's great reading all your comments.  Lunch sounds great, but I don't think I'm up for that yet, maybe next time.  I am a nurse, and work in home health.  I care for medically fragile children.  I take one girl to a U46 school and a boy to Palatine High.  I really miss not working, I love my job, and they have all been so caring towards me now that I need the medical attention.  My surgeon hasn't elaborated on my chemo, only that I need it.  I see her tomorrow and hopefully I will get more details then.

Thanks for all your inputs, I enjoy reading everyone's comments.  I look forward to meeting you all.
