O.K. thanks for the feedback on the pictures. My neighbor came and helped me and we thought we had it figured out as the pictures appeared on my comment box. We'll work on it again later in the week and see if we can improve the situation. Karin...I can see the picture that you posted of me with the kids in the golf cart. It was taken this last summer and we were just using it to see if we could get one to post. Thanks for trying to help me out.
Kater........wow! It sounds like you had a great time! I stayed at the Palmer House when we came up to the big city for our eighth grade trip. We were kids from a tiny little river town and the only thing I remember about the whole trip was the escalator. I know we rode it hundreds of times. LOL It was better than the Museum of Science and Industry!!!
It's snowing here now and the temperatures have dropped rapidly all afternoon.
I went to Borders again this afternoon to write questions. When I couldn't get on their wireless network, I asked one of the workers about it. It seems that you have to subscribe to T Mobile and pay to use Border's network but if I go down the block I can connect to Panera's for free. Such a deal! He said that Barnes and Noble had gone to the same system. I really don't need the Internet while I am there anyway.
The fish ponds sound really neat! I bet you have lots classier fish than we have in the creek. My neighbor feeds the fish in the creek and they come right up to the bank to eat.
Well, I need to find some food! Catch you later. I'll keep trying to learn this photo uploading process. One of these days!!!!!!

OK...these are the cold-be-gone fairies. I sure hope they do their magic!
Marj....another nurse! What school in U46 to you go to? DH is principal in Bartlett at Centennial. If you feel up to it, c'mon over on Friday, even if only for a coke or something.
Rita....I had the same trouble a few months ago...remember? Did you upload the pictures to an on-line service like photobucket.com? That was the only way I could do it. I personally think it had something to do with my Norton anti-virus in addition to all of AOL's safeguards.
Jackie...I will make up a list for you, with some descriptions of the book and you choose whatever you want.
Just heard on the news that Castro is stepping down. Is that good or bad? I wonder what will happen down there now. Remember in all the really old movies when Cuba was the "it" place for the rich to go and party? Maybe things will change and they (and the USA) will let tourism back in - could only be good for their economy.
You are so right, Laura...staying light longer and longer and I see dawn when I hit the kitchen every morning. Just have to hold on a bit longer...is it Feb. 67th yet????
I'll check back later....y'all have a great day.

Mornin'
Good News !!! It's not raining or snowing and the trees aren't moving much.....just cold. Wind chill is near zero---would be nice to have a consistent something. I'm going to be doing a need/prayer for Spring to come early.....tired of this stuff.
Long day today so I'm saying hi early and probably won't get back here til' sort of late this evening.
Wendy, thoughts of Cuba always bring thoughts of President Kennedy and the missile crisis......we all held our breath I think afraid of the next move.
Thinking of you all.
Jackie

marj - Good luck at your appt. It will help once you know what the plan is. Keep us posted.
kater - Wow...lots of fun! I love spas...

It is really cold this morning...went into the forest and fed the deer and birds and squirrels and who knows what else is down there! Foze my butt off though!

Hi ladies -
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I am sooo sick of this cold weather.
Busy weekend - son's "graduation" to boy scouts on Friday. Yes, Laura they still have the pinewood derby races (not soapbox). That is the highlight of the year. My son hadn't been feeling well for several days (off and on fever and sore throat). Saturday I took him to the Dr - yep strep throat. He feels much better now with the meds and no one else has come down with it yet. Saturday night we went out to dinner with some friends for a friend's 40th birthday. We went to this restaurant in Downers Grove called Zed451. It was pretty cool - one price for all you can eat meat and salad bar items. These guys walk around with big skewers of beef, chicken, fish and they serve you what you want. It was interesting! Sunday, we just vegged out and yesterday I spent looking for pants for my son. He is a toothpick - about a 2 inch waist and it is soooo frustrating looking for pants. But, he needed jeans and we found some slim ones that fit at Sears.
Wendy - I would love to borrow the S. King book if you don't have anyone else waiting for it. I do most of my reading in the summer because the school year is so busy, so it will probably take a while for me to read it. Maybe not though if it is the page turner you described. If you have someone else looking for it, I can wait until summer. Thanks!
Sparker - your son is awesome. What a special guy!
My thoughts are with all of you with tx and Dr. appts this week. This group is just growing by the day.

Hello ladies,
Yes it's coooooold in Shaumburg, but I have a window cubicle so at least the sun is on my back as I write. Those of you with fish ponds must find them frozen solid....? Or do you have to keep the water moving for them...? Sounds fascinating. I also wanted to know about the Chicken Paprikash. Who was making that? Can't remember, but sounds so yummy. I got energized and made a pan of butterscotch brownies yesterday at 5pm, but teenage son and his dude buddies came in and had only one lonely square left to put in my lunch this morning. Sigh. Growing boys..
I'm procrastinating and not calling to make a follow-up after surgery, and not getting going with an onc, and not.... etc. Sooner or later I'll have to face the music I guess. But am easily distracted. Anyone read any good books lately? Need something new!

Oh ok. Now I went back and read Blackjacks post about the heater and bubbler in the pond for fish. Will now stop worrying about fishes. Sorry all. Fuzzy brain, even without chemo. What might I be like on it??

Hello ladies and good morning.
Had a good but cold weekend. As you all know. It is beautiful outside but don't let it fool ya. I have met a new friend and we went out to lunch yesterday I actually had a good time except for the cold.
Connie I know what you mean about shopping for your boy. Mine is the total opposite of yours. I had problems finding huskies. He was short and big. I am glad he has grown and is taller than me now. I don't have to cut half of the pant leg off any more. And the boys now wear there pants so big on them it doesn't make a difference on the size.
Tomorrow is tx #7 and one more to go. Thank God...Just pray that I get through this one with minimal pain as the others. Have to go today and get blood work done. I hate these weeks. I go into depression mode. Not quite depression but why me mode...
I have put my life on hold the last 5 months not knowing what to do or what to expect and now it is time to make some choices. My life wasn't all bad before but I made some choices that I wish I could do-overs. Want to start off fresh and new. Mentally, physically, emotionally and financially. Where do I start??? I guess one day at a time. It's like being in prison and getting out after years of incarceration. O.K. I think I am venting, but what better place to do it.
I read on a previous blog someone mentioned the Komen walk for a cure. I sent off for information for it. Do any of you participate in it. Or is anyone participating in it this year?
Well I am off to the Dr. Just wanted to check in and say hello to all.
Have a wonderful day

Hi Calypso....I was the one making chicken paprikash yesterday for dinner. I don't really have a recipe, but here goes...
I put some butter/oil in a BIG deep pan and brown up some onions/garlic (to taste - whatever you want), then I add a container of chicken stock (not the campbell's version, but the kind that comes in the little wax carton - it's real stock), then put in chicken (I just use boneless, skinless chicken breasts but Mom always used a whole cut-up chicken), then start adding good, fresh paprika until the color of the broth starts to look reddish (nope not a clue how much - if I had to guess, start with 3 heaping tbls. and go from there - I always add prob. another 2 tbls. as we like it like that), then cut up 2 big potatoes in chunks, a big bunch of celery and a whole lot of carrots. Toss in salt and pepper as you like it, put a cover on it and simmer for about 1 1/2hours. You can also mix this whole thing up and shove it in the oven at 325 or so for about 1 1/2 hrs if you'd rather. Just keep tasting the broth and add whatever else you think you might like. It is sooooo good and actually so healthly, low in cal/fat and I think the teenagers would like it as well.
Hope that helps!
Connie....I will bring "Duma Key" on Friday - it is a huge book but was a page-turner! Spring break is coming up.....reading time maybe for you!
Sabrina....what a pretty name! And I know exactly what you mean about a fresh start. I think that's why I am so anxious for spring to get here - just want to start the next chapter of my life now that the year from hell is over and this lousy weather has me feeling that I can't - that and waiting on my next mamm. on 3/3. I think after that I'll be able to look ahead. But then too I feel like I am wasting days that I will never get back, waiting for something else. Does that make any sense? Good luck with #7! We all will be there with you, holding your hand. You are almost there, honey...almost done! Hold on...you can do it! You are a TOUGH ILLINOIS GAL!!!! If we can leave the house when it is -32 windchill, what's a little chemo LOL!!!!
Off to do some laundry and clean out some slow-moving drains. Boy - doesn't that sound exciting.

Good grief....listen to me...a whole lot of carrots and a big bunch of celery????? Well...it's one of those inexact recipes! Just cut the veggies all about the same size so they cook at the same rate.
Julia Child I will never be!
0 -
Wendy...no, actually I get it. Big bunches of veggies. I can do that. I wanna try, but one question - what is "good, fresh paprika"? Does that mean NOT a can of it from the baking aisle but something perhaps more delicious and exotic from perhaps Whole Foods? If so, I could do that, too.
0 -
Sabrina (but I still love your Spark!), I too wish for a fresh start. Maybe we can help each other in getting going. I've been thinking that maybe that's one thing this friggin' disease can do for me is provide an opportunity to re-evaluate everything and push me to make some deep changes. Though it sounds wierd, I feel like I met Death last month, and She had some things to say to me. Maybe I don't have tons and tons of years left.....(I have no intention of dying of bc, btw, but could get hit by a giant snowball and go anytime..) so maybe there's no time like the PRESENT to make those changes. Don't really have any idea yet where to start, and wouldn't mind boucing off someone with similar thoughts.

Sabrina - that's too funny about the pants. As my son was trying them on yesterday, I was trying to tell him that it was the style to have his pants down low and his undies showing - he wanted no part of that!

Sabrina Gud luck w/ tx # 7 your almost done!!
I'm planning a quick trip to Elgin in March (18 to 21) anyone available to meet for lunch or ? You should start a monthly lunch bunch! Almost makes me wish I still lived in IL.....but then you all bring me back to my senses w/ talk of snow and cold!!
Rita your computer and mine must be on the same "wave length" since it seems U & I are the only ones that can see your pic!! LOL
Every have a great afternoon

Hi Girls! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...can't wait to LEAVE TOWN! I NEED SUN, SAND, ___! lol
Karin - I'm sure some of us can meet up with you.
Sabrina - Good luck with #7! But remember...#8 is great! It will be the last one! woo-hoo Which Komen walk are you talking about? We have a team for the Sept 1 mile or 3 mile walk. I might be doing the 3-day in August. Let me know which one you're interested in.
CHIN UPDATE:
I am a total loser! The wrinkle did not go away (if they tried removing a third eye I'd really be disappointed! LOL). Bummer...so when I get back from MX, I'm getting Juvaderm done to it. Minor procedure - teeny tiny needle filled with gel to plump up the ol' wrinkle! LOL
Looking forward to Friday...

Wendy... that sounds delicious. I have been trying out alot of different recipes lately since I have been home. I will have to try that one.
Connie...thank God your son has the good sense God gave him not to want to wear his jeans sagging off of his behind. My son knows if I see his butt I will smack him on it. Momma don't play that. Be and dress respectable and you will be respected. I wish i had spakin rights to half of these kids around here. How would they like to see my butt and my underware? (shudder the thought)lol
Thanks all for the encouragement. Yes Laura #8 will be great and I can't wait. Rhyme tyme. Yes I was talking about the one in August. I got the brochure and a dvd. I bout bawld watching the video. So many women affected by this I did not have a clue. It's heart breaking yet inspiring. I will be volunteering and walking as a survivor in the Relay for Life here in May. The good thing is that it is right down the street from my house at Aquin High School. I have been a couple of times as a spectator but now I will be a participant. I would like to form a team but don't know how yet. Waiting for more info from them also. Just want to be involved for the fight for a cure. So more women will be educated and hopefully find a cure soon.
Well all I am gonna rest up tonight and get ready for my big date tomorrow. Those four hours go by so slow. Atleast I won't have to be watched like a hawk for the next two. I get back into my private room.
Have a good evening
Sabrina

Hi everyone! What an awesome Illinois site! I'm located 20 miles southwest of chicago. Nice to know so many people from Illinois are here. I just had left mastectemy on Valentine's day and am recovering fine. Tomorrow I go see the doc and he should have some pathology reports by then. I am so nervous. I was orginally diagnosed with dcis from a biopsy, but a lot more was found on the mri so I have no idea what could have been in there. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But as least I got the surgery over with and now I am looking forward to the Cubs spring training games. Hopefully the 100th year will be the year that they win!
Take care,
beth

Hi Beth! It's great to read you're doing so well. You sound like a real trooper too! Good luck to you tomorrow. I'll keep my fingers crossed too! Sometimes "things" appear larger on MRIS's and even Mammos... But...regardless of what you hear tomorrow...you will be able to do whatever is necessary to get you to the next chapter...we'll help you along the way! Best wishes...let us know.0

Hell everyone!
I'm packing the warmest sweaters I own, and wondering why we're not going to MX like anyone sensible would do. My dh says he needs to see the beautiful mountains, and I know he loves them, so I will be quiet and enjoy. He's not so much a Hawaii person, but he didn't complain, and enjoyed making me happy. I'll have to do the same for him. Brrrrrrr......I'm not up for looking at more snow than we have here. Right now there are seven deer running around the yard. They seem to be enjoying the weather, if you can believe it.
Karin...I'm sure we can do lunch while you're here. It would great to meet you.
Welcome, Beth. I have my fingers crossed for you too. I guess it would be a good idea to cross them for Cubs while we'ra at it. Kidding aside, we're here for you, and glad to know you.
Sabrina... I am so with you on the exposed butt issue. I'm not too happy about the girl's and the exposed midrifs either. I have a son, and two daughters who are all grown up now, but they loved to see my shocked look when they were teenagers. I think I provided them with more than a few laughs. You know, motherrrrrrrrrrr, or my favorite, whatever. Thank God they do outgrow it.
Connie....I wish our sons were close in age because it sounds like I could have passed down some skinny jeans to your son. Mine would outgrow them so fast, and no one else could wear his skinny butt pants. Now he's 29, and 6 feet two inches weighing in at a hefty 160 pounds. I'm looking for some long pants with a 32 waist. Not so easy!
Laura...You are so NOT a looser! Lol Sorry the tx didn't work, but honestly, I can't see any wrinkles. Have a wonderful time in Mexico, and then let us know about the Juvaderm. I've heard of it, but don't know anyone who has used it. My sil loves her Botox!
Marj...Another nurse! I'm a nurse too, but retired. Worked in critical care, how about you?
Kater...Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. Palmer House is so nice, and close to everything. I am impressed by Millenium Park. The whole museum campus thing was a great idea, and really adds to the beauty of Chicago. Maybe I'm partial, but I do think we have a great city.
Wendy...The chicken sounds delectable, but I also wonder what do you mean by fresh paprika? Do you mean Hungarian from specialty shop?
Calypso....I felt the same way you do about a fresh start after a very tough year. I know I'm changed forever in some ways, and I'm still finding my way.
Rita, Susan, Jackie and everyone else... Stay warm and safe as we all wait patiently ???? for spring to show herself. I can't remember that saying about if March comes in like a lamb or a lion, or is it the other way around? Anyway, take care all.
Pat

Pat, you're such a good wife.....You have my vote for wife of the year!!!! :-) Enjoy your time together..no matter where you are. If you're freezing, you can always just snuggle more!!!
Laura, what site did you use to come up with those directions for me for Friday because I'd like to run them backwards so I can get out of the city once I get there!
Connie, I had to smile when I read about your son's pants. My son and now my oldest grandson had exactly the same problem. I went to Sears and bought my grandson four slims for Christmas and they worked better than any others we had found. Also...the scouting program is so excellent. My son is an Eagle Scout. It was quite an accomplishment and was mentioned at his job interview as an indication that he would complete projects. I'm sure that he will get involved in the program again when his boys get a little older. He really was in an active troop and they went all over.
Sabrina...good luck tomorrow. Wow! Just think, when it's over tomorrow, there's only one more to go! Doesn't that sound fantastic???
Welcome Beth. I'm so glad that you're doing well after you mastectomy. Please let us know what your pathology reports show and rest assured that we'll be here to help you along the next part of your journey. Also...I've been a Cub fan all my life. In fact, I even drive a Chicago Cubs golf cart on the golf course! True Cub fans get irritated but never change teams! One of these years..........LOL
Karin...I'd love to meet you!!!
Well even though I failed "Inserting Pictures 101" I will continue to work on this. I refuse to give up!!!! How's that for assertiveness???
I need to get ready to go meet a friend for dinner. Hope everyone had a good day. Hello to EVERYONE.
Rita

Pat....do enjoy your trip---at least you will see someone else's snow and not your own. Aren't the deer beautiful to watch in winter? They seem like they should be freezing...they all seem to have so little hair to keep them warm, but do just fine. Our deer here have a circuit so we are not seeing them quite so close right now---but they are still within a couple blocks.
Back in my day ( boy am I dating myself ) no one unless they were one of those kind---wore anything very revealing and skirts and dresses had to be at least mid-knee or slightly below. We could wear slacks or jeans on Friday, but only if your grades were up. Things have changed so much.
Hi to you Beth.........this is a great place to spend time and find support.
Sabrina...good for you......your so close now. Hang in there and know we will all be sending good thoughts your way tomorrow.
I may have to copy Wendy's recipe too. I'm always looking for low-cal type foods....good for you. A lot of my family are saboteurs and after all this is through Dh and I will have to get a little tough---we once were about three or four years ago and have allowed those little once in a while slip up's to become almost permanent because no one else is much interested in eating healthy.
That is one of the good ( if anything could be looked at as good ) parts of having a cancer incident disrupt life......does make you think about good things you never did for yourself....or things you let go by the wayside because you or your family found them in-convenient or hard to implement. It's wonderful that we will get a second chance to evaluate/repair/re-do/re-affirm and make positive changes that will carry us through on a better level.
Laura...I forgot---when is your trip?????? We are all jealous you know!!!!!!
No one won at DTL tonight so pot should be nearly $1000.00 this coming Tues. They make such good Patty Melts there. I'm just getting back to being able to eat a whole meal and boy is it nice.
To Marion tomorrow....got put off this last Wednesday due to the ice storm and no one there could get to work. Hope all goes well....have to stop in the lab for blood work...then on to X-ray before I see Dr. Lingamurthy. It's going to be a long week and by Saturday....I'll be hitting the walls I imagine. I'll catch up then I hope.
Hope you all have a great day tomorrow and don't work too hard. I have to get a shower and wash some clothes and get ready to settle down for the night. All take care.
Jackie

Jackie...good luck tomorrow. I related to your skirts and dresses comments!!! If it got real cold, you could wear long pants (slacks) under your dresses. Then when you got to school you had to take them off! I bet we could brainstorm enough to write a book about "way back then."
Everybody have a good Wednesday. Those of you looking for good books....you might want to try Lisa Gardner books. I'm hooked on her. They're crime/mystery type books and you can never figure out the ending.

Morning! Will write more later as DH has to get up and out early today.
Good, fresh paprika means (well, at least to me)...not the spices that come in those humongous containers from Sam's Club and not the little grubby jar in the top cabinet in the back that you bought the first week you were married (which in my case was 30 yrs ago!).
Sorry if I had you guys ordering special stuff off the internet from Russia or someplace.....McCormick from Jewel is just fine!
Welcome Beth!

Morning everyone,
Just a quick hello before my day starts.......was thinking ( I'm dating myself again ) about the Smothers Brothers for those who may remember them. Here is what Tommy Smothers had to say about food---red meat. "Red meat is not bad for you. NOW blue green meat---that's bad for you !!!! Apparently back that many years ago there were issues about eating too much red meat....this back from the late 60's at some time.
Wendy.....if we make the Chicken Paprikash....most of us would end up using up our paprika ( the new one ) instead of all those old cans and jars that we warehouse in our cupboard. Anything in a jar I think could be put in the freezer and would probably be fine. I keep my chili powder in there.
Anyway, hope you all have a very fantastic day and once again I will probably end up back here late....lots going on.
Jackie

Good morning ladies,
just wanted to check in and say hello. Getting ready for my date with MR. TAXOL. Oh and picking up my boob. It has finally come in so they said. Hopefully I won't have to go through all the fitting stuff this time. Well to infinity and beyond.....
Have a great day all

From Mr. Taxol to Ned (no-evidence of disease).
Hi Girls!
Another cold one today...my driveway is like an ice-skating rink...I'm so worried about sliding right into my house! Does salt even work in these temps?
Hope you're all doing well.
I need to start packing...
Rita -
Are you liking the laptop? How is the mouse? dh uses a wireless mini mouse instead of the little ball one...

Hello Ladies. I've been a little anxious about joining you. You all seem to be from the "big city" and I'm from small town, west central Illinois. Home of the "Red-Neck Fishing Tournament". (Did I just admit to that?)
Just wondering if anyone is taking arimidex and if you've had any side affects?
0 -
WELCOME Chiefette!!!
We're not all from "big city" Is that the same fishing tournament we see on TV?
I'm not on arimidex now, had probs w/ lots of body aches, am on aromisine now, I seem to have less se. But then everybody reacts differently to the drug ( at least that's what they say!)
Laura can u pack me in you suit case? On second thought I'd prob end up in Pat's in the snow!!! LOL Have a great trip !!!
