Illinois ladies facing bc

If
you can work sincerely and correctly on what is at hand, and do so with energy
and calm, not allowing distractions, but keeping your spirit pure, as if you had
only borrowed it. . . hoping for nothing, fearing nothing, but satisfied with
modulating your actions to the way of nature, and with fearless truth in every
word you utter, you will live contentedly.
And no one can take that from you. Marcus

Brrrr, which I know is going on for the northern ladies as well. We had a couple inches of snow overnight and spit flakes for several hours already today. It will stay fairly cold. Just glad I don't have to work again until Saturday.
Hope it is not too bad for all the rest. I knew winter would be back....but the thud at the bottom. Wow !!!! We seem to still be in the pattern of one extreme to the other. Stay warm and dry.
Blessings,
Jackie

It's been snowing for 3 days and it's still coming down, in Chicago area. We haven't had a winter like this in a while, if I remember correctly. Not that I trust my memory!

I live in Northwest Illinois near the Wisconsin border..it is freezing up here and I have enough snow for an entire winter at this point. When does spring come again?

not soon enough!

Well Im officially back to work delivering the mail! It wasn't to bad today but Monday and Tuesday are going to be bruta with below zero tempsl. My husband on the other hand has been plowing snow at Ohare since yesterday around noon and hopefully will be getting off soon, over 28hrs straight as of now. And he and my son are planning on driving to Ohio to visit his sister in the morning

Hey Cateyz2, I don't envy neither you nor your husband...delivering mail in this weather and plowing for hours and hours. Here I am complaining about the cold and snow and my butt is sitting in the house. You guys deserve so much credit for doing what you do, especially for big crybabies like myself. Most people don't even think about their mailperson being out in this weather and say "who would go out in this weather..they must be nuts." We forget that there are dedicated people that have to be out there. Thank you for the jobs you guys do..police officers, firefighters, mail personnel, road crews, etc.

I was regretting the past and
fearing the future.
Suddenly God was speaking. "My name is 'I Am.'"
I
waited. God continued.
"When you live in the past, with its mistakes and
regrets,
it is hard. I am not there. My name is not 'I was.'
"When you live in the future, with its problems and
fears,
it is hard. I am not there. My name is not 'I will be.'
"When you live in this moment, it is not hard.
I am
here. My name is 'I Am.'"

What a great quote! So true!

Brrr......This white stuff is all over the state and the temps are horrible. Everyone take care! I ran into Kohls to use some cash back bucks today and the checkouts girls near the door had on their winter coats and gloves.
cateyz.....I admire the letter carriers who bring the mail through all times of weather. My son's father was a letter carrier before most routes were motorized and I know how hard it was on him. I neeer forget my letter carrier during the holidays and I try to let him know that he is appreciated. It is not an easy job.
I think I'll light a candle and curl up on the couch with a book for a couple of hours. We are venturing out tonight for dinner with friends.

My post man came to the door with 2 boxes today, I felt bad he had to get out of the truck. Yet he/you have to drive around with the window open all the time! Yikes! Im really dreading next week and the cold temps coming. I have to be at work extra early for a meeting Monday, 530 am, so that is going to stink. But only 3 work days next week and then exchange next Friday, so I guess I can stand it!

I am going kinda nuts. I have a head cold (not complaining....could be a lot worse) and I have been in the house for like 72 hours! I feel so yucky. Every time I think about going out for a walk, I think again and retreat from the front door.
I go for my nearly seven year check on BC next week. I kinda got the shock of my life a few months ago. I was stage II at dx and then the American Cancer Society starting reviewing things and I became a stage 3 after nearly five years of being stage 2. Nothing changed, I never saw a doctor or took a test....just went from 2 to 3! I had the pagets which includes a rash (not inflammatory). It had not gone to the nodes but was IDC and involved the skin. The latter moved it to srage 3. Frankly I was better not knowing. Of course the survival rates changed and it certainly put a damper on my confidence level. I guess knowledge is power....but in this case, I am not so sure. I am wondering if I should bring it up when I see the doctor. Doesn't it seem I sohuld have gotten some sort of notice (I am partially kidding here).
I wish all of you a happty and healthy New Year. I know all of us hate cancer, but the worrisome nature of it does lessen for many of us with time. I too admire the mail carriers and those who work in the elements to keep life going as normally as possible. In the summer I give my mail carrier a nice cold glass of water onreally hot days......but a hot chocolate on days like this? I do not think so.

Zap discuss this with your doctor but it seems most mets happen in the first 2 years followed by the years 3-5 years. You have passed the 7 year mark so that "stage III" statistic might not be as high as you think. Granted we all know we can recur after 5 years but that probability actually goes down every year your survive. You're doing great! Hope you feel better. That head cold and flu seems to be going around.
Happy New Year Ladies. Hope all are keeping warm.

I wish my route was a mounted one, however its not. I am considered a city carrier so basically I drive to said block and then dismount the vehicle and deliver the mail door to door and then return to truck and drive to next block and repeat. So I am literally outside anywhere from 7-8 hours. Majority of the houses have steps to their front door, and a lot just don't get it that it would help to shovel them. And of course management wants us to take the shortest distance from one box to another which means trudging thru the 10+ inches of snow across each lawn, never knowing what is under the snow. Today wasn't so bad but I am dreading Monday and Tuesday.
Ok done ranting, enjoying sitting in front of the fireplace for the rest of the evening, unchaperoned LOL. My husband and son left for Ohio at 230 this morning so I have the house to myself for the weekend.

Zap, I too would ask your Dr. a few questions.....just for over-all peace of mind. I have kept my head in the sand to a degree figuring my positive attitude and some strategic not -knowing would allow me to immerse myself in many other things and the less I think about it, the farther it can retreat. I did work in the medical field and normally was never bothered by patients' diagnosis, or even studying up on medical maladies. Just this once though.....I really felt that I had fantastic care with people who had high intention to see me well/NED, and so allowing myself to hone in on all the figures and possibilities was for me something I felt would lengthen my path to my personal normalcy again. So, I willfully chose to just let it go. So far, so good. In reality....I'd have to keep looking up things to remember percentages anyway.....so, I'm ok with things this way.
I really hope you get answers that satisfy you and hopefully help you lay to rest any lingering nervousness about where you are. I think of you often and wish you well.
Blessings,
Jackie

cateyz2 In MA when I was growing up, if the walk/stairs to your mail box wasn't shoveled the mail carrier wasn't required to deliver.
0 -
Yes Lago that is correct, but it really is a pain to bring the mail back and then out the next day and back and out the next day etc especially when you consider how many may have not shoveled. The route I am on has around 700 deliveries. I just go up and down those steps very slowly hoping for no ice underneath and hold onto the handrails if they have them
And Thank you ladies for appreciating my coworkers and myself

Funny to be here again and to feel so grateful for your responses (Lago and Jackie). I think you are correct that I should ask the doctor but a part of me just doesn't want to. She actually "inherited me" as my surgeon moved away and so she became my doctor and she knows so little about me...never even did the surgery. What with DH being sick, I really, like really need to be healthy. I just am so grateful that I can step back in and two people get it already. Lago, I get the stats, and they are comforting; it is just so bizarre that the stage changed and really changed somewhat radically! I feel jinxed by the change and I know that is ridiculous given that I have survived for nearly seven years. Enough of me. Just thank you for your words and for genuinely caring abut me. That is one thing about this thread....just about every one genuinely gets it and cares about YOU!
Have a great week!

Zap I really hope this doesn't bring u down, u've been doing good whatever stage u are, but like they said talk to u'r Dr. and get something for that cold.
Catey as far as I'm concerned when it's this cold the mail could wait, people mostly get crap mail now and u'r all out there in this horrid weather trying to deliver magazine sales.

see how bad my yard looks.

Cami,
What's so bad about that picture? Get out your skis and collect some Vit D!
Zap,
Now that I'm through treatment and on to reducing risks for recurrence and a new occurrence, I've kind of tuned out statistics and revisions. As it is we lost the lottery initially, but are now winning it. It's got to shake you that now your cancer is deemed worse that at DX. But would this have changed your TX any? And TX 7 years ago may have been different than if DX today. Breathe deep, you are where you are, and that is as a lovely person.
0 -
Catey there should be a rule that if its under a certain degree we can skip mail delivery. Its not even safe for you deliverers! I peeked out the window when I got up today to check the roads and watched the snow plow take down my mailbox! The post is still up so I have to go tie/bungee the box back on. With some luck I hope to retire in about 5 years and not spend winters here anymore.

There
is an Indian proverb or axiom that says that everyone is a house with four
rooms--a physical, a mental, an emotional, and a spiritual. Most of us tend to
live in one room most of the time, but unless we go into every room every day,
even if only to keep it aired, we are not a complete person.

Thanks! I feel I am just in a slump with the weather and the lack of activity. I realize now I may sound shallow focusing on the stage thingy when others have so much more on their plates with treatments, etc. It was not the actual stage thing that upset me; it was just how it changed out of nowhere. It again shows just how sneaky cancer is and how I tend to fear the unknown. Thus, I need to do just what you are all saying to do....talk to the doctor about it and stop googling it! Thanks again for allowing me to be self-centered without criticism. I need to move about the "house" Jackie has created for me.....like I need to get out of this room I am!

When I was diagnosed I promised myself that I would never complain about the weather again, I've been trying to keep that promise, after all, I'm still here. However...if I don't get out of this physical house and soon, I just may break my promise!

This week I've been doing my powerwalk in my home following these videos by Leslie Sansone. I don't have a lot of space so it's perfect. Some of the higher impact or challenging stuff you can just walk through (like high kicks or light job) but it's really all about walking. I do videos 1-4 (4miles). Haven't tried mile 5 yet. All you need is a good pair of gym shoes. linky
She does have others that might be even lower impact.
Dr. Google isn't so smart and is constantly changing his/her stance on things.

Tim everyone is complaining right now---it's going to be a bumpy ride the next few days. I was just watching the weather??? Why right??? Well it sound so wicked it's scary, they were showing some stores with empty shelves, everyone is really reacting to this crap. just stay in and keep warm is all I can say and if u have to go out don't, no one needs u that much I hope.
Well I saw my Card. Friday--yes I know more test and tests hahaha, well as we were talking I for got the word I was trying to say and I did deny being a necrophilliac (sp) he looked sideways and laughed and I knew that wasn't the word but if u know me, I do say anything that comes to mind.
