so sad... I called Michelle, Pat's daughter, after I read the news (and Alyson told me)... what a lovely young lady, Michelle is!  Pat was starting a new round of chemo (but not PARP, she did not "qualify"), and developped a bad infection... to the bitter end... so, so discouraging.  At least she is in peace, no more suffering...  Michelle is surrounded by family, which makes me feel better...

I hadn't been on to visit with you all in so long. I came by to say hi and started reading where I last left off. Your stories all made me smile. Then I read where Pat had passed. I'm so sad and sorry to hear of this. I agree with Melanie, I think she held a lot of her tx, dx close to the vest so as not to worry us. She was such a warrior spirit and I will miss her little notes and smiles. Soar with the angels Pat, we will miss you here.

I will tell you that all is fine here. I have only been MIA due to work. Since we last talked I am working on a presentation with a team for work for the Board of Directors meeting. My shortest day has been 12 hours, but there have been a quite a few 16, 18, and even a 20 hour day. It's kept me out of trouble, that's for sure! I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I don't think it's a train. ;)

DH & I are also volunteering on a Senate campaign. It's been very rewarding to be a part of a grassroots effort that we believe truly believe in.

Until I can wave back at Vegas from the Phoenix NASCAR track, I'll leave you with these pix. I had the pleasure of meeting Margo & Neesie; both from here at BCO and sometime posters at No Surrender. DH & I met up with them after a petition drive, weekend before last;  so no, we dont make a habit of dressing alike. ;)

So, holding you all a little closer. You really all are in my thoughts and prayers each and every day FCC'ers.

I am so sorry for Pat's family and friends.  I suspected she was "worse" than she let on, as she really didn't go into a lot of detail.    I wish her peace and rest in the next life.

I have been away, just busy.  My mom had a total knee replacement on Tuesday, so I have been at the hospital a lot.    Trying not to dwell on breast cancer.   But think of you all daily.

    Marsha....hugs to you((((Marsha)))))

    Love you all,

Nice pic, Carynn... nice couple!! Wink  We must about the same size... and your DH is tall...!!  Good luck with your campaign efforts, and do not work too hard...

Terry hope your mom is doing ok and not in pain, and that Spring is in PA (it is here, even with the 10 inches of fresh stuff we got on Friday...)

Fasting today (on a home made fat free chicken broth with all the veggies of the season... and strained... delicious, if I can say so myself... and lot's of water and tea).  In 30 minutes, I start drinking the yuck stuff (no idea of what to expect), colonoscopy is tomorrow at 1:45 pm... hope it will be a non-event...

    Sending hugs to ALL...   Catherine

Just stopped in to catch up and am just devastated to hear about Pat. Sadly our little group has another angel. Rest peacefully, my dear, and know that you will live on forever in the hearts of your family, friends and chemo sisters.

Nice pictures Caryn.  You and your husband have about the same difference in height as Mike and I.  Mike is 6'6" and I am 5'5".  You are a beautiful couple.

Thinking of you Catherine as you prep for the colo.  When I had mine the prep was the worst part.  I slept through the entire colonoscopy.  When I woke up the whole thing was over.  Be sure and let us know how things went.

Terry, hope your Mom is on the mend.  That is a big operation, but really worth it if one has had severe knee pain.  Take care of yourself as well.

The DD and three children returned tonight. We enjoyed the 5 day reprieve, but it is nice to see them again.  Her husband got a call from the plant where he applied for a job.  They were at the  beach in Galveston and his phone was out of range.  By the time he found the missed call, it was after 5.  He called, but no answer.  He emailed them and will call first thing tomorrow morning.  Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer for him to have a job.  Then he can move here and they can get their own place.

My asthma is acting up and I have been coughing and wheezing alot.  I have started my nebulizer treatments.  Hope to feel better tomorrow.  It was 38 last night and only got up to 68 today.  The wind was blowing 28 mph.  Tomorrow should be better and Mike and I can finish a new area we are landscaping.  We pulled out a bunch of ground cover and ginger.  Ginger is like bamboo.  It has a tremendous root system.  Mike really got a work out pulling it out.  We will go with a more tropical theme to match the rest of our yard.

Well, better get to bed so I will be ready to go to work in the yard tomorrow.

Hugs and love to all, Sammie Kay

    hi, girls...

well, I am back from the colonoscopy: uneventful... no big deal, really, prep included (they had me drink moviprep, no pills).  Report: "nickel-chrome" as we say in French, no polyp, no nothing, no biopsy... have to go back in 10 years (here is something worth living forSmile).

I woke up before the end (did not feel anything), so I had a "commented" visit by the doc (very nice guy), and the technical translator in me went home "more knowledgeable"... all in all, a very good day, so whatever the CEA marker is about, this is not my colon... Smile

And the best of news:  I can EAT again!!!

    Have all a nice evening,

    Hogs and quiches,

    Catherine

    Hi all,

Mom did great.  It has only been a week, she is walking with a walker, able to lift her knee while sitting.  Went up and down my DS's 4 steps.  She is doing well, even while whining.   My DS, well she is having her style cramped a bit.   I will try to go out to her place and relieve her so she can have a run and do some errands.

Spent the weekend outside...hung sheets and rugs on the line...mmm  the smell!  Cleaned out the flower beds, DH and 2 DS's and I spent 3 hours picking up sticks and branches.   3 big loads of brush.  That is the problem with living in the woods!   But we love it.   I think spring has finally sprung.

DS has 1st baseball game Friday...so the fun begins again!

Got to run to work...Be well, everyone!

    Hello,

A flyby post... work work and more work, but a taste of spring has me rethinking that thought...

I am so sorry about Pat. But love to all my fellow cruisers. Officially 3 years since the end of chemo for me, so I am cautiously optimistic about a whole bunch of things in my life.

    LOVE....

    Hey there!

Did anyone watch Grey's Anatomy?  Fabulous episode about someone's right to die in Washington State.

Not too much else going on with me, but Lauren got laid off from UMass due to another lab losing its funding and there being :"free" PHD candidates around... so she is back to looking. Wants to move to Austin with some friends. Anyone have any contacts there????

Talk to you all soon. We are under water, literally. Merrimack River will be cresting tomorrow.

    Love.

Oh, Leah... so sorry to read about Lauren's job evaporating so soon... Would the other contacts she had still be an option?  Austin is a very nice town (not cheap, though)... but we do not have anybody there (DH's sons are in Houston and San Antonio)... and the Hill country is full of lakes and fun things to do in the great outdoors...  Hard to undertand the funding of universities... Lots of people at the top "managing"... they do not get pay cuts.... and yet with the salaries they get, that would fund a lot more research people... Frown CU is hiking tuition in Boulder, but nobody takes pay-cuts... so much for solidarity in tough times...).  Wishing her to find another interesting venture soon... Texas might be doing better economically, especially Houston (there was a good article about that in the FT last week-end).

Stay dry, girl... I never watch Grey's Anatomy because I do not understand what's going on... they all seem highly dysfunctional... or maybe it's me... :)

    Hugs to all,

    C.

    Wow, jackpot on posts.

Leah, my son and his wife live and work in Austin.  My son just went to work for  the University of Texas, great job.  He has a daughter (my DGD) who just graduated from Texas A&M.  She has been looking for a job.  She may have one, I will ask.  Her degree is in Human Resources Management.  Austin is expensive as far as rent and purchasing houses.  But there are so many things to do.  Big music center and lots of movies made there.

Another of my granddaughters is graduating from UNC, Chapel Hill with a degree in finance has an internship in Washington, DC.  She is very excited.  After that she is returning to Houston for law school.

I will try to find out about job markets etc. from my kids in Austin.  What is Lauren's degree?  Lauren is my granddaughter's name, the one going to DC.

I am off to bed, work tomorrow.  Love to all, Sammie Kay

    Morning all.

Hope the water has gone down Leah and that Lauren gets another job really quickly. Jobs in universities here are as allusive. Erin has work next semister but had none this one.

Every one seems as busy as ever. Hope you all have a happy Easter. Friday and Monday are holidays with no shopping Friday or Sunday. And the schools have two weeks off. It is a chance here to enjoy the last of the summer and get the garden tidied up before winter. We are actually praying for rain, things are getting very in many parts.

One month today until our trip.

    Big hugs

    Happy Easter everyone!

No, for the first time in a long time, I am not working this weekend. It has been a very long 3 weeks, with 70 + hour work weeks. We have tomorrow to put on the finishing touches, then the package goes out to the Board. I've never been so happy to see a project come to an end.

We spent the first part of the day yesterday getting our errands done and getting groceries ready for our upcoming redneck get-away. I spent the rest of the day getting myself pampered. And it was wonderful.

Does anyone else watch the 10 Commandments every year? I'm thinking that I have seriously seen it 30 or 40 times by now. So many in that movie that I just adore. DH doesn't really care for it and asks me how many times I have to watch it before I know how it ends (we have the same conversation about the Wizard of Oz, It's a Wonderful Life and the Christmas Story). I think that's hysterical so I make sure I give him updates while he's reading or working on the computer so he knows when Moses meets his birth mother, when the slaves are free, when everyone leaves Egypt, etc. He just shakes his head, cracks me up. ;)

Off now to spend the day with family. Wishing you all a joyous day.

    xoxo

That's too funny Carynn.  Its funny how some movies become as traditional as holidays themselves.  Not a holiday movie, but one that I will watch over and over is Secondhand Lions...love everything about it.

We had 3 of our 4 children over for Easter lunch and then we went to friends for a huge egg hunt.  I had bought matching outfits for the DGD's and of course they were adorable.  We did have one little incident when we returned home and Natalie did not want to leave our house.  She is an instigator and she managed to find a place for them to hide so that 9 adults could not find them.  Seriously...the house is big...but you think "how many places could they hide".  Finally...in my very stern voice, I yelled "Natalie...YOU HAD BETTER COME OUT RIGHT NOW.  Martha was in her room and heard her whisper to Abby..."do not say anything, we are staying here"...CAUGHT! There is a very small jungle gym in the room and they had managed to get under it behind a basket of toys. The parents had really gotten worried...me...not so much as I am used to their little pranks.  If they were able to spend more time together, they would be in trouble all of the time.

Must run now...work to be done!

Hi, girls... wishing everybody a nice week-end... lovely weather here...

Thinking of those with check ups, scans and the like and hoping for NED for everybody.

I am truly concerned about our dear Marsha... I wrote, I called... nobody's there... Terry, did you have some news?  I wish we were all together in the same town (by the beach, preferably...) .

Marsha, if you come visit here, big hugs to you, sweetie, and check your mail box (the postal one)... I wished I'd have your parents' phone #...

    Love to all, take care...

    Leah,

    Did you get my email?

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  It is late and I have a little one who has escaped from his bed.  His parents put him in bed and went to bed.  He came sneaking in the living room to see if Gammie(aka SammieKay) would be his partner in crime and read him another book.  That will be book number 5 tonight.  Then I have a 14 y/o Siamese cat howling and why I do not know.  He does that periodically.  Mike and I think he is getting senile.  Oh Lordy.

Hugs and love to all, Sammie Kay

Hi, Tiffany... you are on the same schedule we all were in... 2007... and see, we are still keeping in touch... Karen does not visit much anymore, like many others, since 3 years have gone by since we were going through chemo, but we kept our little spot here... For companionship during this journey, you should look for threads started in Feb. 2010, so you are on the same page with women like you... Wishing you to benefit from all the good advice on this site and others to eat well, exercise as much as you can (helps ith the tx and good for body and mind) and be gentle with yourself, you need to boost your immune system, so do not overdo it between tx session... rest, try to avoid too much stress... I know, easy to say ...

    Take care,

    Catherine

    Hi guys,

We are moving down the list here to the bottom of page 2, so thought I would add a post and maybe bring us up. LOL

I had a funny experience and thought I would clarify my name. My birth name is Sammie Kay Taylor, married to Mike Beeson, so now go by Kay Taylor Beeson.  I used Sammie Kay on here back in 2006.  Most of my mail and FB and AOL. will be Kay.  I don't mind SammieKay, kinda like it, but it does get confusing.  Side story, I was Sammie Kay until I entered the public school system.  My first grade teacher decided that Sammie was a 'boy's' name and changed my name.  My, my how things have changed.  The school's had authority over the parent's wishes at that time.  So I became Kay in first grade.

Well, our kids are moving out this weekend,.  We will still watch the little one until the end of April while mom works.  It is so quiet here and I love it.  I love them, but really, really like my peace and quiet.  I am sure they are just as happy as we are to have their privacy as well.

I best get going, need to head over to their house and pick up my purse, I forgot it there last night, and head for the store.

I hope and pray everyone is busy, healthy and happy.  Love and hugs to all, SammieKay

Was thinking the same thing. Came on to bump us up id we were too far down.

Trying to get organised for our trip and we have visitors arriving tomorrow!!! My brother and his wife are here for a week, trouble is they don't have a car with them and won't drive here. I am looking forward to seeing them but I wish it wasn't this week and the trouble is that because my sister lives with us suddenly I become the little sister again - I am 9 years younger than my brother and 12 years younger than my sister.

At least the planes are flying again - that was a worry for a few days. My nephew has been stuck in Prague not that he is worrying as he was visiting his girl friend over Easter, he doesn't mind missing a week of school.

Going to the orchestra tonight which should be good. I need to relax.

    Hope you are all well.

Good morning all... sorry for being MIA for so long:  deadlines!!! Lots of work these last 10 days... I informed my clients that I won't work on the 7 and 8 th of May... ;-)  Boy, it is 2 weeks from now... Alyson, looking so much forward to seeing you... and hoping the weather will be better: we are in a (very needed) rainy spell... grey skies... cooler, could be Brittany... just when I had delivered my translated files and wanted to work in the yard!!!  Oh well... there is always vacuuming and knitting...

    Loved your story, SammieKay  :)

Wishing all a nice and sunny week-end... Sending hugs,

Thinking of Alyson and her DH, and Terry... hope everybody got there ok and that you'll get together... wishing you decent weather...

Melanie, I saw horrific pictures of tornadoes in Central Arkansas (Conway??)... does not seem very far from your place... Hope you are all safe and sound...

Denver forecast for end of the week:... stay tuned... keeps changing... planning on a raincoat and a warm sweater may be a good idea!!!  If it is like this week-end: manageable... grey and cool with sunny spells... 3 drops  here and there... but not bad... very comfortable to walk...

    :)

    Till soon!!!

Hi from Pottsville PA. We walked miles this morning and it was so hot. More site seeing tomorrow and then Amish country on Wednesday.

Today saw a chipmunk and some squirrels, I know thats not strange for most of you but I haven't seen a real chipmunk before.

We do have rain jackets Catherine and a range of clothing.
