    Hello all,

My grandmother had bc in the "70's, when she must have been in her fifties (noone talked about it). I believe she only had a mastectomy on one side, and maybe radiation. She lived until her late eighties, passing 3 years ago, NOT from bc.

Wishing everyone health and a long life,

    Cat

15 years ago when I walked in to the hospital to be operated upon for the removal of breast cancer tumor, I never imagined I will be blogging about it after 15 years. I did not know computers, I did not know blog and had not much hope of surviving this terrible disease back then.
Today I am grateful to God and all the people around me who have in some way or other contributed for my survival today. Yesterday, while celebrating a party for Farheena, I all of a sudden remembered it is my BC anniversary. Lately I have been living in a way that I have almost forgotten that I had once been through cancer.
I am busy getting my son into a final career oriented course, getting my daughter ready for her adult life, being focused on what I need to do for my own self actualization etc. Mere survival is not important anymore. As for me I want to finish my M.A (Psychology) and then go for PhD. The goal itself is so motivating for survival. After giving up my studies when I got married according to the wishes of my parents, I never imagined to take it up after 23 years and that too ààsuccessfully. So far my results have been very good. When I think back on the day I went for my surgery I now realize that God had better plans for me than my prayers to him.

For all those who are going through tough times, my advice is to hold and hang on to anything (even the last straw if possible) until the good tide comes over. God has much better plans for you at times than the best of your prayers.

Hello all, I too have an uplifting story to tell, and have posted many times here, i was diagnosed with IDC, 3 months, of chemo to shrink the tumor before surgery (L mast)then 3 months of chemo after and then I went on to marry my wondeful husband, you see I was in the process of making wedding plans when I found my lump and had soreness under my left arm.  After we were married(we put off honeymoon to later)I finised treatment with 7 weeks of radiation(5 days a week).  On tamoxifen (for prevention of reoccurrence) worked for me(Praise GOD) 3 lymph nodes involved, reconstruction(body rejected it) and now wera prothesis.  I am now 17 ys(Cancer Free) God is GOOD, and 17 yrs married to the man who stuck by me and loved me even when I was bald as we say(. I DO) Encouraged by my husband to write about the experience, "The Healings Of Breast Cancer, (A Physical and Spiritual Healing Of My Body And Soul) is on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble, God Bless Us ALL.  msphil

Farila- Thank you so much for posting. I would like to share something with you. You were one of the first bc survisor I had encountered on this board when I first logged in last year. Back then I was still at the begining of my treatment and was desperately looking for others' insiprational stories to help myself get through what was ahead of me such as surgery, chemo etc.. That is when I found your story. I want you to know that you are a great inspiration to me and I am truly happy to hear that you are doing well and thriving. Thank you !

Hi there:  I don't know if I qualify has a long termer but I was dx in Nov. of 2003 with pleomorphic lobular tumor with node involvement.  I was 44 at the time with a 12-year old and nine-year-old in tow.  I honestly did not think I would have the pleasure of raising my children to adulthood but here I am with my son in college and my daughter ready to graduate high school in '12.  I don't know what the future holds but I am so grateful for these years I have had.  Bottom line is it is now 2011 and breast cancer is a survivable disease and I hope those of you recently diagnosed are optimistic because the present medicine is great and it is only going to get better.  My money says my daughter will be taking a BC vaccine ten years from now!  It will happen soon and I hope we can all look back at breast cancer as an eradicated disease!

I love how many posts and how many stories. One thing would like to change from so many years ago when I forst posted here. Would like to call stories of Hope instead of success. The title implies that there is success and failure here. That is not true. It is about hope based upon opportunity. If they did it so can I.

Just a thought, if anybody knows how to edit a post title? I would be so scared to lose the thread.

I'm still waiting for my biopsy results, thank you for this forum, thank you for these promising stories. I still hope to not have to walk this journey but even if my results are B9 I am a better person for having to deal with the "what if". It has opened my eyes to the things that matter, opened my mind to the fights so many people face!

I don't think it's ever too soon for me to say that my wife is a survivor of 14 months!  It's been one heck of a ride for both of us, but now for her, 14 months out, and she's doing great... feeling great... and looking healthy!

I blogged our way through the journey and have gotten some good feedback from those newly diagnosed, husbands and friends of those in treatment.  It may help as I've written about our daily lives in the journey and how we dealt with the daily trials and challenges.

    Thank you Heather,

Just what I needed to hear today after having a cry fest last night with my husband worrying about my Her2+ cancer that went to four nodes...worried about it going to the brain due to no protection from chemo or Herceptin. I am almost done with treatment here, two more herceptins to go....getting scared. This gave me the hope I needed!

A few years before my dx, I met a little old lady at a card shop. She was intrigued by the portable cd player one of  my kids had. She started telling me that she had been diagnosed with cancer and listened to her music all through treatment and still continued. She felt that was the secret...now that 30+ years had passed since her terminal diagnosis! I was floored. They had told her she would not make it and there she was, decades later, giving me advice. (Little did I know I would need and use that advice...makes you really think about it when you meet people like that. I had goose bumps when I met her and felt like I'd known her for years. She was so sweet!)

My cousin, who is 2 years out, just told me of a woman she knows who has been living life to the fullest with stage iv breast cancer for the past 20 years! She is currently NED...gotta love it!

The mother of a family friend had a mx at age 41, new primary in other breast and mx at age 47, then she lived to the ripe old age of 91. Stay strong!

Hey Girls, made my 9 year since diagnosis earlier this year...just wanted to post that my Great Aunty Daphne was diagnosed with Breast Cancer when I was a teenager, so about 30 years ago, she had a mastecomy and 20 years later she had a lump in her remaining breast so had another mastecomy, she is still going strong and is now in her 90s!   My Mum gives me updates and she has just bought a new car and still teaches piano.   What an inspiration this women is.  I love her:)
