Hi! Haven't been here in awhile and just wanted to see I'm coming up on 7 years. I'll be done with Tamoxifen soon. Happy to see so many happy stories here!

  • Amazing! Thank you for dropping in and sharing your story! You give me hope!

  • Hit my 6 year anniversary this past week! I spent many hours on these boards looking for hope in the beginning. I don’t know how I would have made it through without the friendships, love and support I found here - and the knowledge shared was priceless! I am grateful to be here living life and watching my children and grandchildren grow.

Monday marked 19 years since I heard those horrid words. Still living life NED regarding breast cancer. I feel blessed to have seen so many milestones with my children and husband. Now lots of other health issues including a second cancer, but I'm still up right and vertical. There are more and more longer term breast cancer survivors. I have several friends that I've met here on BCO who are 19 and 20 years survivors all living life with NED.

It's been a while since I've posted here. I had my surgery on Feb. 09, 2009 so as of few days ago today (Feb 9, 2025), it's been 16 years. I only had surgery and did not have any other treatments. I was 42 years old when I was diagnosed in January 2009, and I am currently 58 years old. I can't believe how fast the time flew by.

During the initial months after my surgery, I kept myself so super busy that I didn't have time to entertain any anxiety or dark thoughts. I enrolled in nursing school to keep myself crazy busy while acquiring knowledge and skills. Other than the occasional follow-up medical appointments, I didn't have time to even think about my BC, and perhaps that was for the best. Staying busy prevented me driving myself crazy from having doubts about my decision to skip additional treatments. I took the Oncotype test and fortunately, my lab results came back with a low score which implied that I would not benefit from chemo. It may not be for everyone, but I was grateful that such test are available these days, where your treatment guidance is not generalized but rather based on your own personal specimens submitted.

I still remember how this forum provided me with much comfort and encouragements during my early initial period when I was scared and nervous. I got more help from here than anywhere else, as my poor friends and family were awkwardly at a loss as to what they should say or do for me. Often, they would just not say anything to play it safe. I don't blame them. Thankfully, I found this forum.

Not only did I get the information and the support I needed from my Sisters in here, but I also felt joy and relief when I read posts reporting many years of NED. I decided to return here today to post the same, in case it may serve as some degree of encouragement for anyone, like it did for me 16 years ago.

    My blessings to you all!
