My hair never fell completely out. I buzzed but did not shave.  When I was PFC, the regrowth went pretty fast, because I had a 'head start' (lol) with those little short hairs that were there already.

I had thick eyebrows before bc. They never fell all the way out, but they never regrew completely either. I used to have to have them waxed and shaped, now I don't do that any more.  Finished chemo in 7/09, so I think this is the way it is going to be now. They're not GONE ENTIRELY, but just more 'weak' compared to how they used to be.  I don't miss the plucking and waxing, but I don't really like the way they look either. I wonder why that happened.

Earlier this week, I finally had the chance to take advantage of the "Look Good, Feel Better" program that's being offered by the American Cancer Society.  It's worth your time to check out this free opportunity to learn some great makeup tricks, creative scarf looks, etc., in a hands-on environment.  For example, I still have my eyebrows and eyelashes after my second treatment, but I'm now prepared to apply eye makeup to cover up the loss when it happens.  We also learned how to make some cute head and neck wraps out of scarves and t-shirts.  Best of all, you're given a bag of free makeup, etc., upon arrival.

If you haven't gone yet, here's a link to the "Look Good, Feel Better" website.  You can just enter your city, state and/or zip code to find a program in your area.  HAVE FUN!  I did!!

I loved that class and highly recommend it also.  I had no idea a whole bunch of cancer patients in one room could have such a good time. It is a definite pick-me-up in the middle of chemo.

Lucky - I also had a terrible rash on day 11 after my first TCH treatment. It was mainly on my hands, but went up my arms. Also there was a small amount on my back, sides and thighs. My hands were so itchy it drove me crazy. My onc suggested using Benadryl, but it didn't help enough. The rash went away after a few days, but I now have a prescription for Atarax in case it happens after my 2nd treatment (which was 3 days ago.)

How long does it take for eyelashes to grow back?  I started losing them 5 wks post chemo and now have none!  My eyebrows were thin, but I noticed that they are going as well.  My hair is growing back, but it is patchy,  longer on the sides and still very sparce on the top.  I've tried using fake eyelashes, but I usually just end up with glue in my eye!  :)

It seems so unfair to make it all the way through chemo and THEN lose your lashes!  I am just six days PFC and I lost about a third of my lower lashes on one eye, and overall thinning elsewhere.  Not too happy at the prospect of losing the rest...  However, I have read that lashes grow surprisingly fast once they start coming in - hope that turns out to be true for you, anafoefana

I know people have used Penguin cold caps to keep their hair and have kept their nails by icing.  Has anyone tried cold packs for eyebrows and lashes during taxotere tx?  I was thinking of trying it just to see if I can minimize eyebrow and eyelash loss.

20 months PFC here and still waiting for the eyebrows to come back completely. Till then, using a brow pencil to fill them in.

Overall hair length is 9 to 10 inches. Only one haircut since the regrowth started. I have been cutting my bangs myself - getting pretty good at it - they have lost all their chemo curl. For me, hair growing much quicker once I got done with Herceptin.

I had my first treatment on Tuesday nothing really event fully that day, but I did sleep and sleep and sleep after I got home. I think that was more so that I didn't sleep the night before and anxiety just catching up to me. Next day I am experiencing some upper body achiness kind of flu like symptoms, but again not too bad. Someone on here said everyday is a winding road......yep that pretty much says it all.

kenyo, not sure what all you get, but I know they put Benadryl in my prechemo meds.  If you get that too that may be what knocked you out.

My first chemo tx is next Wed. the 21st.  I am going to cold pack my eyebrows and eyelashes to see what happens.  Certainly shouldn't hurt anything.  I'll let you guys know if they still end up falling out.

Judy 67 I did rec the benadryl with pre meds and am positive that along with 36hours of no sleep did the trick. I kept waking myself up because I was snoring, DH didn't say one word just said when I started to get a little loud he would touch my are and I would quite down.....lol gotta love him

judy67, Although I didn't, I think some of the Penguin Cold Cap girls did use the frozen gel bands on their eyebrows. The super cold temps recommended were hard to handle on the eyebrows they said. I think it would probably work though, because the cold caps do. You should post your question on the cold cap thread. They are very helpful.

There is some research on how cold things need to be - LINK it sound like past a certain point going colder doesn't produce a significant additional decrease in blood flow. another LINK

From the first article - "The minimum perfusion we cite in our measurements shows that cooling beyond 12C (54F) does not significantly reduce the supply of the drug to the skin any further."

I never lost all my hair and never buzzed it. On day 21 after my first TCH is when I started losing my hair. I just cut it all myself one Friday night and left it alone.

It started growing back before my last TCH in July. It's been sprouting like crazy since then ... I've also been using emu oil on my head and I don't know whether that has helped. My hair is actually thicker now ... growth is very even. By the second week in November I was already going around without my wig. I probably could have gone a week before that but couldn't quite work up the nerve.

All my new hair initially came back silver ... a shiny, glittery silver (I plucked out three to look at!) but now I am starting to notice dark roots! The nurses at the infusion center told me that it usually takes about two years for the color to come back but mine is coming back and I am not complaining!

Eyebrows were back about 3 - 4 weeks after the last TCH. Eyelashes are in too but thinner so last night I started moisturizing with emu oil. If I develop killer eyelashes, I'll let everyone know so they can invest in a bottle of emu oil.

I've had longer hair all my life but there is something freeing about short hair ...

    Hey ladies,

I've been away for too long! Just catching up on everyone.

I do have a question: I had my last mammogram 6 months ago and they did both breasts. It was the first one since being in treatment. My Onc told me I would get another in 6 months, but only of the breast where the cancer was. Does this sound right? Why not do both while I'm there? I'm about to make the appointment, but wondering about this before I do. Seems crazy to me to not check both. Also, any other tests I should be getting? I can't believe they don't do more.

michon they typically don't do other tests unless there is a symptom. As far as the Mammos I can't really speak to that because I had a bmx. I would think though if you have dense tissue they would do an MRI once a year on both breasts. My "good" former breast had LCIS. They would have never found it if it weren't for the MRI. That's why I did the BMX.

    Congrats NMoss, great news.

Need some help here though.  I had Herceptin alone for the first time this week, finished chemo 3 weeks ago.  So, 2 days later I have horrible pain in my neck and arm socket/shoulder.  It has kept me awake most of the night and I can't lift my arm this morning.  Not the surgery side, phew, is this Herceptin where it says body pains, headache etc?  Anyone else get this?
