Driving during the day, maybe, not possible at night. Plus, I don't read French so too crazy. Let's hire the Frenchman and hope he rests up to have a fun time for the likes of us!

I can only say one thing in French, which is "je ne parle pas Francais" ("I don't speak French")! I think that rules me out as the driver too. At least they drive on the same side of the road in France (I think). I never even tried driving the year I went to college in England because of the left-side issue. I was afraid if I ever got in a situation where quick evasive action was required, I would "zig when I should have zagged" and make matters worse. So let's hire a limo and a chauffeur and hit the town. Besides, who knows if we could even pass the driver's tests to get our licenses in France?

I'm in such a state, Curve, did I miss something about you living in England for a year? That sounds like a cool experience! What school did you go to?

It takes smarts & dedication to attend school in a "foreign" country...does it count as a foreign country when they speak English :).  Anyhoo...want to hear what you loved the most!

@2TA, heeeheee it was a "cool" experience. I went from the mild climate of the SF Bay Area to a much cooler climate closer to that of where I live now in the Pacific NW, and where most of the buildings aren't central heated. I was "freezing to death" almost the whole school year! Yes, England counts as a foreign country. I think the main thing I learned in England is that many Americans have no idea how cushy we have it here, even compared to other economically developed countries.

One thing I really liked is that England is OLD. I went to the University of Bath, which is a relatively new university, but it is just outside the city of Bath, which was a hot springs resort in Roman times and also the 18th Century. There are many buildings in the city, for example  the famous Royal Crescent, which are older than the United States, and not only are they still there, they are still posh addresses. That isn't the oldest either. There is an Abbey which I think survives since Medieval times, and the ruins of the Roman town were rediscovered in the 18th Century (I think) by a house falling into them while it was being rebuilt. But now that I have said all that I don't know how to get to my new word, which is skate.

Well I like this travelogue, so I will not wipe this slate clean. I know, its weak, really weak. But it was all I could think of to get to slate.

Let's follow this TRAIL of thought a bit. I have always wanted to go to Australia, but I think you would need at least 2 weeks, maybe 3 off work, in a row, to do it properly.

I'll go to Australia with you, Red.  And I'll even buy a liter of Foster's Lager beer for us to drink. I really want to see a kangaroo while we are here!

I see wild turkeys all the time, I think someone FREED them from captivity though. I like turkey for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. I like barbequed the best but roasted is ok too.

in this part of the country the leaves begin to turn color, crunch under our feet, but it won't be long before we find ourselves battling a snow drift

We need to find a craft to work on while we hibernate this winter.

I have a huge crate of half finished crafts from last winter still. (I was going to note that after a winter of hibernating we'd also need to find an efficient way to get the farts out of our house, but I figured that might be politically incorrect, so I didn't. Do you suppose bears have that problem?).

I'd love to go to the Rockies by train. Will it take long to get there? I'm a bit tired of that lady at the front of the car. She constantly rants about one thing or another. I hope she will get off at the next stop.
