Leggy J - I think your hair looks great.  Some of us have been told our hair looks great short and are choosing to keep it that way.  I may keep mine short too, quicker at getting ready for the day.  Although, I've never had wavy hair so I may want to see what happens when it is longer.  If my hair had stayed straight I would have gone with a Jamie Lee Curtis style def!  The Relay and luminaries are very moving, enjoy!

Kari--Congrats on the good news after your test! Big sigh of relief for you....

Helena--Happy to hear you got your mojo back! Are you still smiling?

Rachel--What fun to meet another BCO woman! I'll let you know if I'm ever your way....And by the way, you never shared the topic of your book. Are you keeping it private until publication?

AJlive--I had to tell my onc about the CYP2D6 test; my result: intermediate metabolizer. I took Arimidex for a year+ and came close to losing my body/mind/spirit (perhaps only a bit of exaggeration), and I am tolerating Tamox relatively well (with some interesting side effects for sure, but I'm coping). I hope you will get news that will help you make the right decision for you.

Koryn--I had not heard of anyone with a Tamox allergy, but then most people are surprised when they hear of my toxic/allergic reaction to Zometa....

Leggy--I understand what you're saying about the weird and often rude reactions to short or no hair. Throughout chemo I wore scarves, and everybody told me how cute I looked (yeah right...). Since I recently decided to be "out there" with my super short hair (1 to 1 1/2 inches), I have heard how much better--and "normal"--that looks than those "weird scarves"--this from some of the same people who told me how cute I looked. And I have had the second/third looks as well as some interesting comments. Yeah, sometimes it is really hurtful, but I try to remind myself, "Hey, I've got F&%$*#@ hair, and I don't have to worry about the people who have no clue!" I agree with Patti; I think you and your hair looks great! (And I am not just saying that because you don't have a "weird scarf" on your head!)

Thank you Patti and Brenda, it helps to know we're not alone out there.  I don't think any women who hasn't been F*&$ing bald, can understand how hard it is.  You see bald men all the time, when your bald, did you notice that?  Sure I would love to have nice hair again, and hopefully I will. I wore baker boy hats, all through the bald thing, never could keep the scarf on my head.   Brenda, I took the CYP2D6 test in May, and was also an Intermediate metabolizer, but my ONC. said the hot flashed were a good sign, but then you probably already know that....

    Hi girls!

I am at work and didn't have a chance to read and catch up. But, I did want to tell Spring..Hi and how did the surgery go?!!

OK...THIS GIRL IS ON CLOUD NINE!! I AM IN LOVE. READ BELOW....I PASTED AND COPIED FROM MY OTHER FAVORITE THREAD!

    Ok...HERE IS MY SCOOP!!!!

Let me start by saying, my heart has never ever felt this wonderful and full.  I knew by our emails and long phone conversations, that this guy was SPECIAL.  He is everything and more that I have been looking a lifetime for!!! OMG....I can't contain my excitement!! I walked into work this morning...and my friend said...wow...how was your weekend?  She said...something good happened, because you are glowing!

Tony is 1/2 Italian and half Russian (just like me italian and Ukranian). He is 55 yrs old, 5'10, nice build, good looking, smells good, dresses nice. Anyhow..he lives 3 hours East of me.  At first I didn't want to even talk to anyone that far away (wayne..issue) but, after his 1st email...on the dating website...he started it off with Ciao Bella!! Well....he had me at hello! lol.  I love for someone to talk to me in Italian, which he knows allot of and wants to teach me!

Ok...I am rambling..but...so so happy! We decided to meet 1/2 way at an huge outlet mall. I got out of the car Friday at about 12:30pm...and he was there...with roses for me! He looked like his pictures...and I felt instantly that I was seeing my old friend!  We conect on so many levels it's unbelievable! We have the same values, love chilren...but are excited for grandkids. He has 3 kids all married and one daughter is expecting his first grandchild. Anyhow...I go home the next day at 3:45am!!!  I will try and make a long story....short, if I can!  We went and had a drink and lunch right away. Then we shopped allot...looking mostly.  I helped him pick out shoes, and I bought some books. He bought me the book "Twilight", because he said it was a beautiful love story. From there, we went in his car to Erie PA, which was about an hour drive.  It's on Lake Erie. We drove to the beach, and walked in the sand....but the weather wasn't cooperating, so it was cut short. Then we drove around the really quaint town.  We stopped at a really cool place and had a delicious dinner.  Then we went to a place he has been too before, that is a bar and has Karaoke. He loves to sing, and he does it pretty well. He sang several songs...and 2 were for me! We slowed danced...and had a great evening.  Then he drove me back to my car...1 hr away...bought me coffee, because he was concerned about my drive home.   I AM IN LOVE!! Plain and simple..not sure if that can be after one date...but I felt in in my heart...and it's real, it feels great, and I prayed allot about it on my way to meet him.  And nothing has ever felt so right in my whole life like this does.

He is honest, loving, romantic, kind, caring...and he has told me over and over again...that I will come first in his life. He knows my past, and he is not afraid at all of the BC, because his ex wife of 19 years had BC, and had a radicle mastectomy (no reconstruction) and he is very familiar. He said he will love me forever, and wants me to be in his life. He wants to take care of me he said, if I will let him (he knows already how stubborn and self sufficient I am), he wants to spoil me.  He is such a complete gentleman...I am blown away.

Yesterday...he drove to my house (3 hrs) We watched a movie and had dinner at my place. Then he slept on the couch (that was very difficult)!! We had a good make out session, but want to wait for the right time to be intimate!.

Well...girls....can you tell I am floating?? I think God has answered my prayers....he is the man for me.  I feel it with every inch of my being!!

Ill be back in a bit!! back to work!

Thanks to all of you!! I couldn't wait to get on here and share!

BTW...he took his profile off POF, and I took off my pictures, and deleted my words...then added...I AM GLAD I GOT BACK ON POF...AND THANKS TO POF, I FOUND THE MAN OF MY DREAMS. ALL THE BEST TO EVERYONE OUT THERE LOOKING.

I did that mostly for all the  guys I had given my number too, but took forever to call me...and just emailed. I am sure they are thinking...WTF? haha.....too late..snooze you lose! haha...I WON!!!

    xoxo

Leggy, first of all, I think I am going to have to start calling you Smiley- what a fabulous smile, and I am not just saying that... i mean, what a box of chicklets you got in your mouth honey!  And eyes.  PattiB is of course correct to point out that a lot of women like short hair, and in that vein, yours looks great, but I totally get it that its not the hair you want... but I was expecting like an ugly chick, to frank (Ok I am that anyway).  What a surprise you reveal yourself to be quite pretty.

Lisa wow wow and wow wow... what the heck is POF?  I gonna have to get me on there!  All sounds wonderful.  When do you see where he lives?

    Morning all,

Leggy, nice to "see" you - great photo, great smile - and what is with those comments - I swear there are more idiots around now!!

Mary - I had a nanna nap yesterday afternoon (1 hour) and still managed my 9 hours last nite!!  And we had Chinese on Friday nite .. and we had a big football weekend ... spoooooooky!!

Lisa - how wonderful - and why not!!  You are gorgeous both in body an spirit.  And slept on the lounge, I remember from my old days that if you don't get up to any mischief then you REALLY like them.  Not that I got up to any mischief mind you !!!

KorynH - so sorry about your experience with tamoxifen, just horrible for you. ((hugs))

Hi Brenda - yes, I am still smiling but of course we forgot condoms in the midst of it all so now have to worry about that!!  And of course my period is late - can it happen that quick LOL.

Kari - it is great you guys get out and about sooo much. And what is with all this hunger stuff???  My period is a week late and I have been eating everything!!!!

Gidday Rachel - frank .. you??!!  hugs.

So after 6 months (so got the time on tamoxifen wrong - what is with that?!) my periods have decided to go missing.  They were spot on time every month.  Mmmm.. didn't see that one coming.

Well going for a run then seeing my surgeon who did my bilat mast and tissue expanders today - haven't seen him for 7 months and feel I have moved on a bit since then.  Anyway going to ask about all sorts of things so will get my money's worth.

Have a wonderful day/nite you guys.  And hello to anybody I may have missed.

    big hugs

    Helena

Rachel, glad you asked Lisa what POF was...I had food on my mind so much, I couldn't think anymore while posting! LOL

So Lisa, plentyoffish.com.  I went thru my coworkers trials and tribulations for the last year while she was on match.com and she would always get so disappointed when they would meet face to face.  She finally is dating a guy 14 years younger!!!!!  The guys in the office call him her boy toy!  too funny.  I said go for it, man life is too short.  A year before my dx she had a scare, she was told she had lung cancer and they cut out 25% of her lung.  Turns out the hospital had switched her records with some other persons and she only had some bug, shoot I can't think of the name of it now, stupid chemo brain....some bug in her lung from Arizona that was treatable with antibiotics.  She sued and was able to buy a house, but not her lung back.  She was there everyday for me while going thru this whole SFBC mess and has listened to me vent and watched me cry.  I was lucky to have her next to me.  We are the only 2 'staff' in our office, the rest are real estate agents, so we run the joint! haha

Helena, lounge and mischief, can I tell you sweetie that I just adore the way you speak!!!!!! You are soooo cute.  What's up with the period all of a sudden going off the straight and narrow?  Is that due to the tamox?  hmmm  Do report how your surgeon visit goes!!

Rachel, well a dream is better than nothing??!!

OMG, so I went to this Mexican place where the guys at work said was so good and got a big fat chicken burrito, it was sooooooo good.  I am just a piggy...its due to starving the other day, and all those chemo days, I tell ya, I just eat like a pig!!  maybe its the tamox???

    Love to all

Yeah, I live in the Napa Valley, and everyone thinks you have to be rich and beautiful, oh most of them are. Kari, when you loose your taste buds, during chemo., and they come back, food just never has tasted so gooooooddddddd.  Now I'm starting to watch the scale, since I'm now at a good weight, for me, but it's tough.  They feed us at work, and most of the time, I have salads, unless my co-workers tell me the main course is really worth it. Luckily, I don't really cook very often, and on weekends eat mostly fruit and veggies..Can't seem to eat anything, I was able to eat during chemo. The nurses warned me about that.

Good luck to Lisa on the new BF and to Helena for the mojo thing...at least someone is getting lucky!!!

Just sitting here cooling down after my run - heating up over here now - will have to go out before DH goes to work I think (which means 6.00am ... groannnn)

Rachel - with all those firefighters I'm not surprised you are having dreams!!!

Kari - I work for a property valuation company - just me and 2 guys - and you're in real estate - snap!!  Can't own up to running the joint though - what with my 11 hours per week.  And that just SUX big time about your co-worker - what a horrible thing to happen.

I think my periods going AWOL is a side fx of tamoxifen - good to bloody get one I reckon - little disconcerting about when they are going to pop up again though.

DEFINATELY going this time, got to make myself beautiful for my surgeon - now I have the implants I don't really feel like stripping off for him - their mine now.  Anyway if I have my ovaries removed he'll be seeing a lot more of me!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Patti.

    big hugs

Helena--you are too funny. I have a male surgeon also and sometime it does feel weird 'stripping off' for him. :)

Leggy--I'm in SF! I just love going up to your area--so beautiful--like an instant vacation.

Lisa--congrats! He sounds wonderful. This sounds paranoid and don't laugh but pls google him. I just saw this show where this guy who seemed completely charming and wonderful married a handful of ladies at the same time and ripped them all off. Don't mean to burst your bubble but you have to be careful! :)  I'm sure he's fine especially if you are mtg his daughter...

Kari--I can't believe your friend Lisa's experience. How awful!! Yikes--I guess second opinions are a good idea...!

Spring--glad you are back!! Hope recovery is going well...

    Morning,

Quick post b4 I go to work - yeah I know it's Tuesday - my boss keeps changing days - totally does my head in .. but anyway...

Saw my surgeon yesterday, he is the one who did my lumpect, bilat mast & tissue expanders but not my implant exchange surgery - he is starting to do exchange surgeries next month.  I told him about my squeak and he wasn't concerned and said to wait to see if I can live with it b4 getting it redone!!  He also said "if I can get great results like that I will be really happy".  How excellent!!  I felt so proud of my squeaky toy.  Sigh.

I also received a confirmation letter from my Genetic Counsellor who said "a causative mutation was not detected in either the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes."  So officially I am negative.  Sigh.

Hey Alllie, won't have to strip off for him now for another 6 months.  Yay.  I see you are coming up to your 1 year anniversary.. how do you feel.. are you going to escape or celebrate.  Mine is coming up in October and thinking of having a party.  It is breast cancer awareness week that week so it will really be in my face.

Oh Leggy just noticed the new snap.. how gorgeous are you!!!

    have a great day/nite everyone

    love you all

Leggy, love the photo!  And yes on the food thing!  There is still one spot on my tongue that feels burnt...used to be my whole tongue.  Don't know if its a late Taxol effect or from my clinical drug, but its soooo much better and as far as not wanting the same foods, I'm totally with you on that one!  I'm even like that on clothes I wore to chemo!  The nurses warned us about that too!!  so weird.

Allie and Leggy, we could get together some day!! a northern Cal. girls club kinda thing.  hmmm we'll have to think about that!

Hi squeaky, I mean Helena! LOL!  Great news on the negative mutation!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And we are in the same line of work!  see - kindred spirits!  I knew it!! smiles....the surgeon appt. sounds like it went very well!  I passed my surgeon on the stairwell again today!  2nd time in a week...weird.

Had a hearing test today at lunch.  Hearing has worsened from chemo/rads...SFBC!  the gift that keeps on giving....

Have a great rest of your day!!

Helena--LOL on your "squeaky toy". :)  So great that you are officially negative!! I have been thinking about my one year 'cancer-versary'. It was actually this week that I had my biopsy I think--found out the news the following week and then surgery in Oct (and follow-up in Nov). Not really wanting to celebrate but maybe I will be happy on the anniversary of the day they took it out. :)

Kari--sorry to hear about the hearing issue (no pun intended). I keep meaning to ask my eye dr about issues on sight with tamoxifen. Don't think I have any but want to know what I should be aware of.

Allie, a friend of mine, who had Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma five years ago, took me out for dinner, on my anniversary, and visa versa.  She's the lady who made me the chicken soup, when I was doing chemo.  She's in her 70's, and looks 60...She says she's my Jewish sister, cause she's too young to be my Mom(and more fun). We had the best time, Chinese food and we split a beer, a big one...So go, celebrate, you'll have good time!!!

Leggy Smiley girl... another fabulous picture.  Although I do miss the doggie.  But this is a great great picture of you.  And now I can say your mom was right, you were totally trippin when you thought people were noticing your hair as a cancer patient.  Totally.  I get it that that is not how you wear your hair or see yourself, but for an outsider looking in, it looks perfectly normal and attractive.

I don't know if Effexor really does that but the gal I met last week (lbrewer) was very smart and knew a lot of stuff I didn't know, and this worked for her so.... and remember she said you gotta up the dosage.

I also saw something on another thread about someone who got a scrip for xanax to help her sleep on Tamox.  Just some possibilities.  Still never heard of anyone who had a problem with Effexor or even a side effect???

Leggy, re your hair length - I think it is about the same length as mine. I never had chemo, but normally wear my hair shot. It is very thick and just irritates the heck out of me if it gets a bit long. I like to be able to get up in the morning, take a shower and forget about it. Wash and go, so to speak . . .

A northern CA get together would be fun! I vote for the Napa Valley, in part because I have a friend in Napa I would like to see. The hot baths in Calistoga would be fun!! You used to be able to go for $4 or so. Any weekend but October 17 -18. DH and I are going to Death Valley that weekend.

Allie, tell your optomitrist you are taking tamoxifen. My sister is my omptomitrist; she says vision problems are pretty rare, but you should have a yearly eye exam while taking tamoxifen.

Everyone talking about their 'cancer-versary' made me think; it has been almost one year since my mastectomy and to me that is the most important date as it was the most life altering part of my bc 'experience.' Sigh . . . I have also been thinking about my surgery because a work friend had a bilateral mastectomy and immediate reconstruction last week. I have been thinking about her and how she is feeling. Her boss was in my office today and I asked about her. When he started to tell me about what the surgery involved, I just told him I knew exactly what was involved.

Next Thursday is my one year also.  I can't believe it's been a year and a long one at that.  I have a mamo this Friday and I must say that I'm nervous.

I took the mamo xrays after diagnosis on the advice of a friend in the medical field that felt that there was something wrong with the fact that I had just had a mamo 5 months earlier with no indication of cancer.  She said I was too advanced to have had a clear mammogram.  After my DX I took them to another town to have them reread.  The Doctors assistant call to tell me that they refused to look at them stating that I needed to move on with my treatment and get well.  Suspicious hey?  So I did.  I really forgot about it until they called to schedule my mamo and asked me to bring them in.

What would you do?  I'm not an expert but I see the spot clearly on the film.

Hi Renee, do you mean you had another mammo done after diagnosis?  And you can see the lump on it?  My lump was 1.3cm and didn't show up on my mammo yet was clearly noticeable on the ultrasound.  If I look at the mammo now I can see all sorts of scary stuff but it is just because I have dense breasts.  Oh shit, used to.  If nothing showed up on the mammo the first time, as far as they were concerned, shouldn't they be doing a ultrasound now?

    Yeah, bloody long year.  Hugs.

No.  I went right to the ultrasound after I found a lump five months after a supposed clear mamo.  Good question.  I'll ask on Friday.
