Helena,
I remember now about the fires you all had in Oz. When was that, I think I was doing chemo. then? Speaking of chemo. I watched The Food Channel, all day long, trying to think of food, so I could eat, but it didn't work. I lost 35lbs. during chemo. and now think of food all the time. One of my male buddies, who called me every day, when I was sick, still tells me what he has for dinner, since I always, ask. Now I've gained back 15 lbs....time to push myself away from the table.
Lisae, I have a pass to Sonoma Co. regional parks and beaches and go once a month to Bodega Beach, but it ain't no Big Sur...

Laundry all done, had my nice hot bath and I am just veggin' for a bit!!!!!
Good night ladies.

hi everyone! I survived the hike - about 8 miles with about 1,100 feet of elevation gain. But my 'good' hip (i.e. the one that hasn't been replaced) is sore and I have a big blister on the inside of my big toe, where it rubs against the other toe. But it was a beautiful day, not too hot, not too cold and the views were wonderful! Also, we stopped at the Rocky Point Resteraunt afterwards for a beer and to enjoy the view!
Leggy, when I lived in the Bay Area I used to head up the coast all the time. It may not be Big Sur, but it is beautiful!
Rachel, carrying a 29 lb kid on your back is enough to make your feet hurt. And remember he is growing, so as you get fitter, he just gets heavier. I think I'd use a stroller.
Mary, you reminded me that I have to do laundry tonight - to get ready for the work week. I bet it feels good to get it all done and to take a bath - that is where I am headed.
Take care you all.0 -
Just about to go to bed and was washing my face and remembered someone posted about break outs on tamoxifen ..
Pringles1 - I get hormonal "sweat pimples" which are just a joke at 47. I'm not sure how it works with tamoxifen as it is supposed to suppress the hormones getting through and pimples are supposed to be hormonal... can't work that one out. I have bought a face wash which seems to be helping but hate using anything harsh on my already ravaged old face!!! What with the pimples, squeaky foob, dry squinchy eyes and dry skin it isn't any surprise I'm not the only one here at home who has lost their mojo LOL.
nite all
big hugs
Helena

My complexion has cleared up since I began taking tamoxifen. No more pimples, which I got on a regular basis. But I'd take the pimples over my loss of libido any day. And insomnia...it is 4:40 am and I can't go back to sleep.

Hi, all. Well, week #2 has gone well and I will ramp up with full doses now. Only thing I'm noticing is an increase in the flashes - which aren't terrible and I'm so used to them anyway, that its no big deal. Am noticing increase in vaginal lubrication, which is a great thing! Insomnia hit yesterday, but it's a normal thing in menopause, again, no big surprise for me, as I've been dealing with all of that since 1997. Took an ambien last night, first one in weeks, as I realized it was getting later and later and I needed to go to work today.
Rachel, how is the weather in NYC? I can't wait to get there - only 2 weeks now!!!!!

chelev- I am asleep at the wheel, you are coming here???? Can we play? Weather for the holiday was amazingly beautiful, today is gray but still beautiful. You will be arriving at a spectacular time, the heat is gone, fall is in the air, everything is easy in September

Leggy, I asked my onc and all the chemo nurses about veins...they all said, they will come back with a good long rest! That's GREAT news!! 35 lbs?! WOW, that's a lot of weight, poor thing, you must have had a tough time during chemo? chemo sucks! I posted on another thread that I had this weird panic flashback yesterday regarding a school bell that I heard behind my house go off and I panicked and started crying! When I was home for the few days after my dose dense A/C chemos last fall I would lay out back in the sun with sweats/sweatshirts,socks trying to get warm (my DH and others were in shorts/Tshirts) and I would hear that bell all day. Its like post traumatic stress syndrome I think!
For those of you on the east coast or midwest, the Calif. coast is spectacular!!!!! I grew up in Cali but lived in N.C. for 7.5 years and in Okla for 5 years and always just wanted to get back here! haha....I saw a lot of beautiful countryside and have driven the I-40 route a lot.
Helena, the mojo comment was too funny!
Lisa-e, I'm with you, I want my mojo back! and to be able to sleep! LOL
Rachel, Top Chef - all caught up! That one with the Thunderbirds was awesome! Hope you and Chelev can meet up and play in a couple of weeks!!

oh and Lisa-E- that was my plan, to work out with my kid on my back from the start, so as he gets larger, and as I get stronger, the weight increases... then when he's running I hope to keep up with him...
kari- wasn't that fantastic? this is what I have been trying to show the troops since 2003... that real americans of everywhere support them regardless of political affiliation and love them, not to believe the political propaganda and staged events. Any time people have a chance to do something to show their love for the troops, they go all out. Civilians have no opportunity to demonstrate their love- but if you wanted to protest there were pre-printed signs and rock star events, breakfasts and lots of TV cameras...
And at every level and every gathering of any group everywhere someone has someone they love serving.

I also watch all the Top Chef shows (sometimes I have to catch the end later since I tend to fall asleep sometimes) and also Project Runway!
0 -
Oh yes Project Runway and now the show that comes after that shows the models bitching!

I love love love the Top Chefs shows--the Masters one was great. Made me want to go to their restaurants. Went to a few of Tom C's in NYC when we were there this summer--that is not a good town to diet in if you like food! Too many great restaurants! I also got teary at the Thunderbirds show...and also at the ball game we went to yesterday when they showed two different men who were about to ship off to Iraq--the whole crowd stood up and cheered.
Helena--LOL on your mojo comment--I'm sure that's not it!!
Rachel--loved your new pic also...
Kari--yes our CA coast is spectacular! I love it. I am a coast girl--moved from one to the other...We were just up north of San Fran a few weeks ago--so beautiful...and got engaged in Big Sur so that is always a special place for us...
thanks for the news on Spring...

Seriously, thank you Allie. This town is NOT a good place to try and diet!! I mean yeah, we have all kinds of specialty food places, but really, not easy go to the raw food vegetarian place when it's sandwiched in between a street of Indian food restaurants (we actually have two streets that are full of Indian restaurants, only a mile apart) and a home made ice cream joint. I have a foot thick file of menus of places that deliver every kind of food you can imagine, and I can hum you half of the phone numbers.
Whenever I am going to leave town, I think, "but where will I eat?". For years I didn't leave because outside of NYC and LA most states still allow smoking in restaurants. Gross!!!!! Remember how Sally ordered in When Harry Met Sally? When I leave town its hard to believe I can't order my sandwich on my choice of bread, my coffee with a variety of creamers, the thickness of my cut of meat, how much fat... I can show you where you can eat like a pig and not spend money for trying...
But one kind of food you can NOT get in NYC for unknown reasons is real Mexican food.
Another tip about NYC: If you want to go to the Statue of Liberty, the line is 3 hours long even with the necessary "reservation"... except for members of the military and first responders like police. Its a secret few know, but with ID military and first responders can simply show ID at the front of the line and walk right on the boat to go to see Miss Liberty. For the Empire State Building though I understand military have to come in uniform, which is a bit annoying, but then its free when its otherwise $$$$.
I brought a returned troop from Iraq (originally Texas) to do this and it was so funny... after 2 tours in Iraq and with her Texas trooper hubby they were both more scared of the mob of waiting tourists than they were on duty!!!

Rachel, the first picture for sure.

Chelev, how often do you use the Ambien and do you have any SE's from it? I have a few left and they let me sleep but I get a headache the next day, not sure if it is from work stress or the ambien!
Do any of you who use sleep aides find you can't sleep without them? I am afraid of using them too much don't want to get hooked. I hate this restless sleep shi.....

First pic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, he is sooo adorable!!
Love Project Runway, and I finally get to watch it again since its on Lifetime now!! Yeah!! Have to check out the bitchy model show, I was wondering about that one! haha
It flipped me out when we went to Texas in '05 that there were smoking sections in the restaurant we went to. I had forgot that not all states still allow that! Calif. is very strict about smoking, it bugs me when this one lady smokes at the building entrance next to the sign that says to stay 20 feet from building entrance when smoking...maybe she's illiterate too? moron
Allie, you coastal cutie! Big Sur for an engagement...your DH rocks! Mine was in Lake Tahoe on a pier, so pretty!! he's a keeper!!

Carollynn, when I told my onc that I wasn't using the prescribed sleep aids much for fear of getting hooked (while going thru chemo), she suggested over the counter aids, tylenol pm, etc. have you tried any of those? I tell ya, I tried everything and I never slept good, seems they make me toss and turn and dream lightly like I'm half awake...weird

Thanks Helena, I felt it. Have a nice day at work! Hugs back at ya!

I was taking Tylenol PM every night for a while and it really helped. Then I read on a link from this thread that benedryl - which is what is in Tylenol PM to make you sleep - can interfere with Tamoxifen so I stopped using it. Maybe ask your dr. I am sleep deprived too so hope that made sense! I keep hoping I will get tired enough and will sleep a whole night but not while I am having my own personal summers - the hot flashes are gonna do me in I swear! If only they burned calories!

First photo, Rachel. Very cute!

Rachel - 1st photo, absolutely beautiful!!
Hi All,
Sorry I haven't posted for ages but by the time I catch up on reading all the posts it's either too late or I'm too tired to post!! Hope you all had a good holiday yesterday. Well it's 40 days since my first Tamox - just a little less than that since I had a full nights sleep. Hohum!! At least I am managing to lose a tiny bit of weight as I go along. I'm just over 3 months since Chemo and 1 month since rads - is it unusual to just cry unexpectedly at this stage. I still find myself crying when I try to explain myself - i.e. if I'm trying to explain something to my DH and the words just won't come or when I try to have a chat without mentioning BC but as it's been a big part of my life for the past 9 months it's hard to avoid it.
Anyway - sorry I haven't done individual comments to everyone - there was just too much to cover but I hope the klutz phase is passing (I avoided it so far but DH has fallen twice in the past week), yeah Rachel - good for you fixing your own machine!!!
Hugs to all.

I wonder if some of the other over the counter sleep aids do not have benadryl type drug in them, will have to check them out, tylenol pm used to work but over used a year ago when before I had my hip replaced and it does not seem to work and it is not reccomneded for users of Tamox. Humm maybe I should go back to darvocet with a glass of wine, oh shoot they don't reccomend wine either!! LOL
I had a month or so once my hip surgery was well into the healing process and before BC when I actually slept most of the night oh well, pain, hot flashes, restlessness,, everything but sex keeps us awake. Oh well at least Hells Kitchen is on tonight, my DH and I love that show, don't know why but we do!!!
Thanks for the advice, hope we all sleep well tonight, I am taking an ambien need 1 good nights sleep.

Carollynn, I also had a hip replacement before my bc dx also. For a while, my doctors were patting me on the back and saying "my, you have been through a rough patch." Anyway, I have a stash of pain meds left over from my various surgeries and have seriously considered using them to help me get to sleep. It seemed like the only time I have slept well in the past year and a half is when I was taking a pain pill at night.
I am lolling around today with my foot elevated - I have cellulitis in my shin again. Went to the doctor this am and got shot of antibiotic - have to back for a re-check. Last time I had cellulitis I wound up the hospital on IV antibiotics for four days. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in and I will avoid that.0 -
Rachel, first picture.
It is 9pm and I am just now getting on the computer. After work went MIL's for dinner, dh is working on her deck. Then had to go register my kids for CCD! I got home finally just after 8pm. Helped dd with homework and now I am veggin' on the 'puter.
Hope all had a good day. I just just skimmed over the post. I like to watch Chopped, and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Oh yeah I love Unwrapped!
Have a great evening and a Marvie Day tomorrow.

Lisa - Hope the antibiotic works and you are up & running real soon! How the heck do you get cellulitis?
I admit to taking a vicoden or muscle relaxant frequently to sleep. Maybe I am making a mistake but all I know is I don't function well when I am up off and on all night. I am working full time at a fairly stressful job, keeping track of 2 teenage kids and a DH (who works alot of hours doesn't help much either!) doesn't make it easy. I am beat! I am only 3 weeks out from exchange surgery so I am still having some aches & pains so thats my excuse for the prescription drugs! I know I have to find another way to sleep but if anyone figures it out let me know.
I love Diners Drive-ins & Dives too! Guy has even been to one of my favorite dives up in Mass. He makes everything look like it tastes delicious! I watched a bio about him & he seems like a real nice guy too. I like to watch Househunters International on HGTV. That usually lulls me to sleep!

Rachel, my vote goes to the first picture, too cute!!!
Hey Kari, thanks for the info. on the veins, I had a list of questions for the Onc. when I had my 1st 6mo. visit, but I forgot the list in my truck...Yes I had a rough time on TAC. I don't know what I would have done, if I didn't have a friend who made my chicken soup.
Ainm, I still have chemo. brain and it looks like it's here to stay, and I cry at the drop of a hat.
It was the Year of the Hat, hey where is she anyway, hope she's doing OK.
Off to bed,
Leggy

Working Wed and Fri this week ... boy don't know what I'm doing ...
Patti - well I only know of our Ugg boots and they are big sheepskin boots that cost anything from like $50 to $200 Australian dollars (and baby I ain't doing the conversion ... long story!!) Really comfy and warm though.
Leggy - our fires were in Feb this year - just horrible - but there was this big rush of love and compassion amonst the Australian people and just from personal donations we raised over $10million for the victims. It was very moving.
Carollynn ... ssshhh about the wine ....denial .. denial ... denial ..
Ainm - good to see you
All going smoothly this week but probably shouldn't say that out loud!!!
Hello everyone else .. hope you are having or had a great day.
big hugs
Helena
