kookiesmom--occasionally I'll take Valerian (can get it in the vitamin section) to help sleep. It probably isn't a good thing to take constantly either, but it does seem to work, and very gently. I originally started doing that pre-BC when I used to have trouble sleeping right before periods.

Have many of you had pelvic pain after taking Tamox (I've seen a few comments about it but not anything recently)? I've only been on Tamox 1 month, but in the past week I've had the kind of cramping you get at the beginning of a period (but no period - haven't had those since chemo in April). My primary care doc did an exam and said everything looked normal so it probably is the Tamoxifen. Ibuprofen helps, but I wouldn't want to go on this way for very long -- it is very uncomfortable.  I'm going to talk to my onc, but thought I'd see what experiences others have had.

    Thanks,

Hi..Helena..Rachel...Kari...Mary...and all the other wonderful ladies here at tamox!!

I have been MIA for a little while. Sorry, unable to catch up with all of your lives and posts. Maybe if I have time here at work...I will try.

Just wanted to stop in and say hello!! I was in Florida with my daughter for a long weekend. In Michigan for my free botox etc! ..that was great!

Looking forward to Friday.......have a first date...with someone I am very excited to meet! He is like no one else I have talked with yet.  Keep your fingers crossed! I will fill you in on who he is after I meet him.  I don't want to jinx myself!

    Have a wonderful day!!

    xoxo

    Lisa

I started Tamoxifen on Friday (6 days ago) and haven't experienced any side effects yet - nothing at all. Is it too early? I'm so nervous about the hot flashes that I'm actually losing sleep because I'm nervously waiting for it to happen. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. J

Rachel....I like the second pic.  Just love the sassiness in the pic.......beautiful child you have!!!

I just discovered I am taking TWO meds that can interfere with the Tamox effectiveness.  Someone mentioned it here so I went to read about it.  I take Prozac AND a over the counter sleep aid that has diphenhydramine in it.  Now I'm upset that my Dr. didn't say anything about meds I shouldn't be taking.  I feel like I've taken the Tamox for the last two months for nothing..........

I'm gonna print the page of meds off and take it too him the next appt I have....which is the 23rd.  In the meantime.....I think I will call and see if they can call me in something else.  Effexor and Lexapro was on the list of meds I can take.  I've taken the Lexapro.....it worked really well.  The only reason I went off of it was because of the sexual se's.  But hey.....I have NO desire right now anyway....so no big deal.

hugs to you all......and thanks so much for your help

Genia, I've heard that you *can* take Exeffor (something like this) and it doesn't interfere with Tamoxifen. I think that's what a lot of the ladies take...

Since I welcomed Spring back on another thread, I'll just say 'hey hey hey'!!  so happy to see ya!

Lisa, I was wondering about you last night!  You've been all over the place...ohhhhhhhh can't wait for Friday's date!  Does botox hurt???  can you smile or does it feel weird when you are surprised, does your forehead freeze?  LOL!!!!  I've always wondered those things.  So happy that you out playing while not posting!!

Genia, thank goodness for these boards, we sure learn a lot from each other don't we??  Geez, do we have to do all the research ourselves and educate the docs??  guess so at times!!  Please call them and report back what they say!!

j414 - welcome to the tamoxi train!  I think some people just metabolize it better than others.  I didn't really notice anything either.  then at times, get this warm flush feeling...I don't perspire or turn red just get warm/hot and sometimes really cold after that happens.  Have had a stiff neck though ever since starting it and had low back/hip pain.  Did some searching online this a.m. about the stiff neck and it brought me to BCO and a thread over a year ago just dedicated to tamox and stiff neck!  what do you know...good luck!

Leggy, awwwww friends and chicken soup!  nice!  I had a couple that brought me soup religiously!!

Mary, what's CCD?  sports?? you had a long day.

Lisa-e, cellulitis - poor thing!!  hope you get better fast!!

    Hi Helena!!

    Rachel, you out playing today??

    Shout outs to all!!

aoandrews: Sometimes  I too get a "phantom" period.  Low abdomen pain/crampy feeling, bloat, lower back pain, tired & bitchy for a few days.  I really think I am gonna get my period and then *poof* the symptoms go away.  I haven't had a period since June and I have been irregular before that.  I know the Dr. said the tamox. would speed up menopause for me so I think has.  I'll have to look for Valerian & try it.  Is that what is in sleepytime tea?  I used to drink that if I was stressed out before BC and knew I would never get to sleep & it helped.  I should try that again - forgot about it!

J414:  It took me about 4-6 weeks to get SE from Tamox.  You may not get any though - alot of women don't.  Mine just kind of snuck up on me until I was thinking what the heck is going on with my body....Oh must be the Tamox. so I looked at this website and that explained 'em all.  Good luck!

Yes Effexor was on the list Bev.  I've never taken that one.  The Lexapro I have taken.  I wonder what I need to do to wean myself off the Prozac.  I've taken them for SO long.........or will I need to if I start on another one.

I'm supposed to have Herceptin tomorrow.  I feel like I'm gettin a stomach bug or something.  Had the runs since last night......ugh!  Guess I'll see how I feel tomorrow.......I hate getting STUCK for the IV.  I'm such a baby anymore!!!  lol

Genia, picture me there with you tomorrow holding your hand, when they come at you with the needle, deep breath in, you're at the beach, well you get the drift...one step closer baby!!!  Ask the nurses about the prozac thing tomorrow, those ladies know so much!  I've heard you have to wean off of it, but not sure about replacing it with another...hmmm

Aoandrews - I also take valerian - I usually have 2 nights just before my period when I can't sleep (I usually get about 9 hours!!!!) and pop some valerian, which I did last nite.  Can get about 5 hours sleep out of them.  Hope they are OK to take, haven't heard otherwise.

Kookiesmum - I also get some pressure and swelling around my bits as well, which I have now, I can feel pressure when I sit down.  Not sure whether it is tamoxifen related or getting close to peri-menopause OR BOTH!!!  Also I get very emotional - you'll probably see me here posting how much I love everyone.  LOL.

J414 - welcome aboard - no hot flashes for me (7 months down the track) - try not to focus on it as you can see here sleep is sooo important - 6 days and all going well sounds terrific!!

Genia - aren't Docs a scream!  My Onc didn't tell me not to do the tumor marker test when I had my periods.. what the.. what a nightmare that turned out to be.  Thank heavens the women here are so on the ball about everything.  Thinking of you tomorrow.  hugs.

Spring - gentle hugs to you.  Bet you're glad it's all over and its time to heal.  :)

Hey Lisa, great to see you.  Let us know what you think about the botox.

Kari - big wave, have a great day.

Everyone else who may be lurking - have a wonderful day

... and I love you all heheheh

    big hugs

I saw the doctor this a.m. and the cellulitis is improving. So another shot and some oral antibiotics. I can resume normal activities when all the redness is gone; until then I have to elevate my leg. Kookiesmom, I have no idea why I got cellulitis this time. It is something you have to be very careful about if you have LE; that is why you have to so careful about your arms. But I got it in my leg and didn't have any cuts or anything.

Genia, I hope you aren't coming down with anything and that tomorrow goes well. And Lisa - a date - it sounds like so much fun! To everyone else, my wishes for good sleep, no hot flashes or other se.

    Take care!

A quickie (sigh..wish it were the other kind): I also had several days when I felt like I was having menstrual cramps followed by several days of vaginal pain. I think I mentioned before that I have had increased vaginal secretions/discharge, which is hugely atypical for me. And the stiff neck effect: I have it, too. I have really had a problem with a stiff neck over the past 1+ week, and I could not identify any particular cause for it. I have been doing some serious stretching over the past few days, and that has helped, but each morning when I first awaken, I am really cranky about the neck experience. With regard to sleep, someone told me about a product called "Sleep Like A Baby" that is supposed to be "all natural," but I have not had the chance to research it yet. Well, actually I haven't had the need, because I am one of those people who--so far, since starting Tamox--hits a wall of fatigue by mid-late afternoon and needs to sleep, sleep, sleep just to recover before the next day. I occasionally have a restless night but I have really been sleeping the sleep of the overtired. I am still staying very warm all day and night, although the heat is occasionally broken by a spell of intense coolness in my head! Go figure! In spite of it all, I just keep saying to myself, "At least it's not all the horrible side effects of Arimidex!"

Ugh--no way on the PIE. I know a lot of people get colonics which is what this sounds like but I think I'd rather poop it all out!

Rachel--first pic for sure. Second one is fun and sassy but he looks cuter in the first one since he's smiling--he's adorable by the way!

Lisa--good for you on the botox. I had it once before my wedding last year to try to get rid of the deep crease between my eyebrows that makes me crazy--of course it didn't get rid of that since the dr said it had been there too long (ugh!!). And now I am afraid to get anymore--I haven't heard of a cancer connection but figured if I am working to get on a really healthy diet, that maybe I shouldn't stick botulism into my forehead! I'm sure it's fine but I just worry. So my forehead still looks like a sharpei...  :)

Allie- if it's any consolation, I went to several dermatologists about my RECENT crease between my eyebrows, caused I am SURE by a disastrous experience in the MRI after my DX, and they also wanted to do juvederm or botox but said it wouldn't do great... didn't seem to help me at all that it was recent.... FWIW Oh and I asked about laser resurfacing, but he said they had to do the whole face and again, not to expect everything to be wonderful, just maybe some improvement.

Yes, PIE not fun, and the whole colonoscopy prep not fun, but regular prep not working for me so let's stay positive, mmmmmK?  And I have friends who do that colonic stuff (or did, in the 80s, not now) none of that is for me, thank yew very much... but PIE not like that.  Its a machine that basically washes out your innards, sending warm water in and swirling it out.  It is not comfortable, but not painful.  Just annoying.  Less annoying than colon cancer however. Muy expensive :(

Hello ladies. Glad to hear from you Lisa. Where in Mich was the free botox, I have relatives in Mich, can I get free botox too?  LOL!!!!!!!!

Kari, CCD is Catechism catholic Doctrine= religious education=Sunday School. My son is 6th grade, my dd is 3rd grade and my youngest ddis pre-k. I teach the 5th grade class.

Tonight I had to go back to work for open house. Only 3 students' parents showed up, only the moms and one was actually a stepmom. We had fun talking with a career counselor for our district who is also a behavoir specialist(BSE), he sees many of our students in their home setting.

I did got some very upsetting news today. My friend, who is the music teacher at our school, who is a bc survivor, has a brain tumor. She just had her rcon and a tummy tuck, she has one more surgery and one more procedure, and now SFC again!!!!!! She was happy at the beginning of the year. She starts rads at noon tomorroow. She will be at work tomorrow morning. I have to go talk to her, but do not know what to say. We were just laughing last week about whether we were both having a hot flash or if her room was just hot! She is truly a remarkalble lady!! How does SFBC go from your breast to your brain?

Sorry to vent and spread bad news, I just needed to tell people that I knew would understand!!!

On a lighter note, my uncle had to had his colonoscopy, he did all the prep, went in for the test and they could not do it, he was still full of it. Image all the jokes that started. we told him he did not need to go to the Dr., because we have told him all long that he was full of it!!!!!!!!!

    Have a great day ladies.

Mary - that is just such terrible news about your friend - getting so far into getting her life back and now this.  It's our worse nightmare isn't it.  Here's hoping the rads beat the crap out of that tumor so you can both be laughing and hot flashing together soon.

Mary, I am blown away.  I keep hoping its some benign tumor, but you said she's going for RADs so they must not think it is possible to be benign.  Did they say it was her breast cancer or some other cancer?  Not that I know if that's better. I am just blown away. So terribly sorry.

And bummer about the failed prep, if that don't beat all...

    Many hugs

Colonics, enemas, cleaning out, prep work, it all sucks!!

Mary, that is just awful news about your coworker.  It really is all of our worst fears coming forth.  I remember in chemo class last August the nurse telling us if you are dx with SFBC and then years later we find SFC somewhere else in your body, you have SFBC not lung c or brain c....TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!  You did a thoughtful thing with the note and she will come to you if and when she is ready or needs to...OH so ccd isn't sports its religion! haha...I was brought up with no religion so I am clueless.  DH went to catholic school and he is still clueless! haha

I have those 2 little creases between my eyebrows, oh brother! SF creases, haha!!

Took my 3 little laxatives 2 hours ago...nothing to report! LOL!  Not looking forward to that gloppy drink at 3pm today, I gagged that stuff down last time and swore never to take it again...never say never!!

Home today and going to watch TV and veg out now!  what fun! heehee
