Viamin D should be around 80 according the Vitamin D conference video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emjCzaHtSrg

Mine D level was 70. My friend's was 30 and they gave her weekly vitamin D shots because she wasn't aborbing the 4,000 units a day she had taken by mouth for months. I was taking the same amount. Mystery, huh, why some people don't absorb?

gelati- you are ON!!!!  Water Ice, YUM!

OK for you and PattiB and anyone who'd like a visual aid, this was today's trip:

That is 212 miles, but add a half hour at the end sitting outside the Holland Tunnel waitin' and a hopin' to get back into the city I love...

Patti B- thank you- but that's also more of my worry... I mean its bad enough if I fail to get him in as a parent, but if I fail to get him in as a writer too, this will also suck much.  like suck squared.  But ya know, I also decided not to apply to other nursery schools.  I looked into them and they don't flip my lid.  We're doing music classes at Lincoln Center, and lots of the museums and cultural institutions have classes, maybe some are also difficult to get into, but there's plenty to learn and do in this town.  Someday my kid may come after me because I didn't get him into the stream of the "right" schools where he'd meet the "right people" and make the connections for the rest of his life, but I'm focusing on him learning about everything and being exposed to culture.  He can be the one who makes it (or fails) on his own based on his ability, not who he knows- and we all know that's a much tougher road, yeah, but I'll like him as a person more for it.

On Vitamin D, I am just so happy everyone is  getting checked.  I forgot what mine is and I forgot what the "sweet spot" level is, but it was checked and my ONC said it was good so... yay.  Will be interesting to see what it is in January when they test me again.  sigh.

Visiting family was kinda weird on the cancer front.  I guess that's another reason why I hang out here.  I want to be able to say cancer when I mean cancer.  It's hard to speak about anything without it coming up, and they all mostly squirm in their seats or mouth off stuff they think they know...

Patti B yes it reminds me of the movie Baby Boom too except I don't get the handsome veterinarian!!!

gelati- we've got a big old Rat Pack of PA girls here... welcome!

Kari, Lake Tahoe sounds wonderful. I thought it has already snowed however - some friends canceled a climbing trip last weekend becuase it started dumping.

I went down the coast today, towards Big Sur. I did a couple of shorter hikes, but headed home early because it was overcast and cold. The sun never came out.

Rachel, reading about the application process for the nursery school doesn't make me want to puke (iron stomach) but I am sure glad my kid is all grown up and I don't have to deal with such things any more. It sounds so competitive, so awful!

I gotta say, for all my bitching and moaning... I think this school is really special.  Here's a link to the school

they have a little video that kinda sums it up.  I hope we get in, but hey, if we don't, we'll do OK with the rest of NYC :)

Most of all, I am happy that this is the kind of stuff I have to worry about today...

Hi, all--Just playing catch-up here after needing several days of rest. At the least I almost always can depend on this thread for a great laugh, and I certainly find myself learning new information as well. And I look forward to hearing how everyone is doing and coping. I've made it almost to 2 months on Tamoxifen, and I am not stir crazy, so that's a relief!

Rach, I think I want to go to that school with your kid, where each voice is heard and valued! NICE!  but then this thread ain't so bad, I feel pretty special here as well!  LOL!  So you went on that trip to visit family??

lisa-e, Lake Tahoe was so beautiful!  65 degrees, clear and gorgeous, I guess they did have snow once but it melted off.  Boreal is open already and we saw about a hundred skiiers this a.m. on our way home (man made snow).  That storm is supposed to be intense and heading in tomorrow night.  Big Sur, simply gorgeous!  but no sun does sucketh.  Heard on the radio that San Fran was fogged in still at noon and they were hoping it cleared for the Blue Angels performance @ 3pm (Fleet Week there, my younger DD was headed there to check out all the 'boys').

Feeling pooped, need to move my butt now...wanted to check in and say Hi to all!

Mary, are you enjoying your long weekend and all this football today?  of course my 49ers are getting creamed....sigh

Patty B - the Perkasie is the dot after B... B is Frenchtown :)

kari- yeah, that's why I am still in it to get him in... and today was another great class at Lincoln Center.  I am thinking all the time when I am lifting him up and stuff how lucky I am that I can do that again.  People don't understand how terribly proud and happy I am that I can lift this kid.  (Diane, hang in there!!!!!  ).  Recently he's been grabbing my boobs a lot (I didn't breastfeed, so this is new). When I hike him on my back, and everyone seems to notice (and its funny because its usually people don't smile at me in NYC, but with the kid, they do... first I am like, what are they smiling at?  Then I remember, oh right, the kid...) and especially when I am loading him up or letting him down, and they offer to help and they don't understand, this is my victory over SFBC TX.  For every mom who can't, I will and can.  Yes, I CAN.

Visiting family was a part of the trip, stopping by to leave a playpen at my step-mom's so we can more easily visit her later, her house is full of glass figurinesSurprised

if we stay over, and I have to take a shower, where can I put the kid?  My Dad isn't allowed to lift over 20 pounds due to hernia (and he's 86).  Then on to my cousins, who are THE BEST but I never get to see them.  So busy.  They keep my car stuff in their garage (see, they are the BEST) and my cousin swaps the wheels from summer to winter for me (I know, you have to google "winter" you cali beeetches).  Oh wait, you can drive to winter in Cali... and you did.  Sheesh I love NoCal.  Tahoe is sooooo gorgeous- you deserve it!

And I got to drive the roadster top down... VRRRROOOOM VRRROOOOOM

Well, I'll admit, I was starting to get that 'hurly' feeling reading about the trials and tribulations of getting your kid into the special school, Rach, until I visited the link to the "Blue School" and saw it was founded by the Blue Man Group guys. Wow, pretty interesting there. It certainly sounds promising! I hope they live up to your expectations, but you know what, it sounds like your little one already has a head start with all the cool things you're already doing.

Speaking of Tahoe, I thought Yosemite was one of the most awesome things I'd ever seen, until I saw Lake Tahoe. OMG!! I particularly remember one year when I met my California cousin in Reno and we then went on to Tahoe. My uncle has a small plane and picked my Mom and I at Tahoe and flew us back to Reno to catch our commercial flight home. Seeing that deep blue sparkling hole surrounded by snow-capped mountains from the perspective of that little plane was just amazing!! Sheer beauty.

Rachel - great photos!!!  I hope little man gets in to the school!  That says a lot about getting New Yorkers to smile - I know it's tough to pull those corners of the mouth up - it's much easier to frown.  :)  I usually wander around the city and I smile at people and they look at you so surprised, like "Whoa, what on earth is she doing???"

When my daughter was around his age (geez, feels like it was so long ago - she's 25 now, so yup, it WAS a long time ago, when I was young and carefree and ,. . oh, yeah, the thread), and we would ride on the bicycle, she'd reach around from her babyseat and grab my boobs, or put her head under my shirt.  People would laugh and I was trying to keep my balance on the bike, because she'd sway from side to side.  A real comedian.

Okay, so been riding the tamox train since august and am now getting some achy hips and low back - is this normal?  Not crippling bone pain like with Femara but enough to feel twingy and annoying.  I just keep on working out, and pretend it isn't there.

PattyB, where in OK do you live?  I lived in Enid for 5 years and one of my best girlie's just moved to Norman.  Tahoe from a plane, very nice!!!!  The Washoe Indian tribe were the first to inhabit the area and they say its a spiritual place.  It just does somethin to me!!  I love it! and only an hour and 15 min drive, we're lucky.

Rachel, I had the BIGGEST smile looking at those pics!  Keep sharing please!!!!

Chelev, great story of your DD on the bike with you.  My older DD is 25 too!!  So many great memories.  So I got the low back and achy hip when I started Tamox.  I started Tamox at the same time as Rads so I wasn't sure where the pain came from.  I kept telling my doctors it was from me laying on my right side for over a month straight.  But the pain never let up.  My onc and pcp thought I had bone mets, did xrays and another bone scan (all clear thank goodness) and I've been seeing a PT since April.  He thinks its from my muscles going phooey all through treatment and he says my whole hip/low back area is very tight from sitting/laying so much during tx.  I think it has to do with Tamox since my neck has been stiff ever since the beginning with pill #1.  I've accepted that this is how it will be for 5 years.  Heavy sigh...

Meg, that is funny about the friend's kid.  LOL!!!  Ooph next week....and yeah, why would you or your DH want to look at your ovaries...the things that turn on surgeons!  haha

Mary, enjoy the day off!!  I'm at work....another heavy sigh...

    Caroline--

didn't actually enter grapefruit, but put in other things like Tamoxifen and CoQ 10, I think. Try another supplement and your results will come up showing to avoid grapefruit. Often grapefruit and alcohol and even aspirin will pop up in results when you check other items.

Lisa- when you say the second time on Tamox, no pain or problems, was it that you took a Tamoxivacation?  I forgot :(

Here's the article I found todayhttp://www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/fashion/zip_tuck_bb9rHYMhQmFs1CCmadIp7I Hmmm, might be that link will not work after a week, so I will post here, and I am interested in a bunch of this stuff... especially the non-surgical as with Tamoxifen all that jazz about blood clots and surgery... I am thiking of going for a bunch of it:BROWS
    Procedure: Latisse
    Cost: $120 for a two-month supply
Done by: Dr. Bob Bernstein, 110 E. 55th St., 212-826-2400
Latisse transforms over-plucked, spindly arches into thick, sexy brows worthy of Brooke Shields. “It stimulates the anagen phase of hair follicles, which thickens and prolongs the hair’s growth,” Bernstein explains. “We would use it on the scalp, but because of the amount we would need, it would be extremely expensive.“BREASTS
Procedure: Augmentation with “gummy bear” implants
    Cost: $8,000-$9,000
Done by: Dr. Nina Naidu, 160 E. 72nd St., 212-452-1230
The latest “gummy bears” are more like natural breast tissue than past generations of implants; Naidu says they feel a lot like Jell-o. And because they are not as liquid there is less chance of leakage. “After the FDA re-approved silicone gel implants in 2006, [more] women are undergoing primary breast augmentation with silicone gel implants or exchanging saline implants for silicone,” she says. Currently in clinical trials, gummies are ideal for women who have lost breast tissue after childbirth as well as those who want to enhance their décolletage.CHEST
Procedure: Microdermabrasion, laser and glycolic peel
    Cost: $600
Done by: Dr. David Colbert, 119 Fifth Ave., 212-533-8888
Colbert has devised a triad of treatments to restore skin that appears mottled and uneven after a summer of sun exposure. He gives patients micro-dermabrasion, 12 minutes of a Cutera laser — he swears “it feels like warm raindrops on the skin” — and a glycolic peel. The result is soft, smooth skin devoid of dark brown spots. “We’ve had a lot of celebrities come in to get their faces done, and they forget the chest,“ says Colbert. “It’s important to keep things uniform.” THIGHS
    Procedure: Scorz; Cost: $750
Done by: Dr. Neil Sadick, 911 Park Ave., 212-772-7242
To treat tenacious cellulite, Scorz uses sound waves to improve dimpled skin. “Cellulite is fat which makes its way into the dermis instead of staying in the subcutaneous layer,” explains Sadick. “The fat cells are also oriented in such a way to allow the fat to pouch out. Sonic waves produce heat, which softens them like silly putty and pushes them back where they belong.” While there is still no miracle cure, patients report significant improvement.  FEET Procedure: Acid peel; Cost: $100
Done by: Dr. Suzanne Levine, 885 Park Ave., 212-535-0229
Never mind vigorously scraping away at calluses. Levine uses a 70-percent medical grade acid peel to eviscerate them. “Your feet will tingle, but you will have no pain and it gets rid of all those cracks you have from wearing mules,“ she swears. After the peel, she zaps unattractive spider veins with the EPAT ultrasound machine and injects fat-busting phosphatidylcholine around the ankles.NOSE
    Procedure: Open rhinoplasty
    Cost:
     $4,000-$5,000
Done by: Dr. Bob Cattani, 159 E. 74th St., 212-772-0505
“Rhinoplasty is a surgery of millimeters, not centimeters,“ says Cattani. Traditionally, a small incision is made between the nostrils to allow access to cartilage and bone. Cattani’s open rhinoplasty lifts the skin to offer the surgeon a full view. The scar is minimal and, to perfect details, he injects Juviderm and Restylane.THEETH
    Procedure: Laminates and “Gumoflage“
Cost: $1,800 per tooth for thin veneers, $2,200 per tooth for super-strong veneers and $1,500-$2,500 for gumoflage
    Done by: Dr. Lana Rozenberg, 45 W. 54th St., 212-265-7724; Dr. Steven Butensky, 16 E. 52nd St., 212-486-6622
New thinner laminates not only create a more natural look than traditional porcelain veneers, they don’t require shaving your teeth down to nubs. Previously, thin veneers didn't work for those with deep stains, but new color blockers can be painted on natural teeth. “Even teeth severely stained by coffee and wine can now look white and pearly,” says Rozenberg, who tends to the mouths of Scarlett Johansson and Kim Cattrall.
Butensky, who brightens the smiles of Molly Sims and Tinsley Mortimer, uses a new stronger laminate. “The material holds up better, especially for people who are grinders,“ he explains. Rozenberg also now has a procedure she refers to as “gumoflage,“ which corrects a smile that shows too much gum by lowering the lip slightly, without bone grafting as in the past.JOWLS
    Procedure:
     Aculift
    Cost: $3,500 to $5,000
Done by: Dr. Jon Turk, 800-A Fifth Ave., 212-421-4845
Previously, droopy jowls were firmed with a classic facelift — cutting and tightening skin and muscles. Now, Aculift, a thin laser fiber, removes fat from the area and tightens skin. “It’s less traumatic and safer than liposuction, with a much shorter downtime, “ says Turk. “I suggest people consider this at the early signs of aging, in your 40s.”ARMS
    Procedure: Short-scar arm lift
    Cost: $10,000-$15,000
Done by: Dr. Larry Reed, 45 E. 85th St., 212-772-8300

The fix for loose, jiggly arms used to come with a huge scar from the chest to the elbow. Reed has introduced a short-scar arm lift with a smaller incision that’s tucked under the armpit. It not only tightens the skin, it gets rid of the fat pocket on the side of the chest and fullness in back of the arm. Bonus: it eliminates hair and some sweat glands in the armpit! Drawback: recovery takes longer — you can’t raise your elbows above the shoulders for three weeks.

Hi Rachel! No...I was on tamox for 1 year, had a total hysterectomy, and then my OC put me on Arimidex, and that lasted for 5 months (horrible). Then I tried another AI for a month or more..not any better. So, then she put me back on Tamox. This time around has seemed easier than the first. Maybe it's because compared to the AI's...it's so much easier on  my body.

    Hi Everyone,

This question has probably been asked before, but I can't find it. I have been on Tamoxifen for 5 weeks. I had one glass of wine on Saturday and was REALLY drunk from it. Has anyone else noticed this? It has to be the Tamoxifen. I would occasionally have a glass of wine even while going through chemo, and did not have a problem.

    Thanks!

Crystal - I noticed the SAME thing!  I usually have a glass of red wine at least 3-4 times a week with dinner - only one glass, have been for years, and did so during chemo when I was feeling well - did not notice feeling tipsy at all, but YES, I feel tipsy while on tamox.  Wonder what the correlation is?

hey, Kari, I'm in Stillwater, OK -- home of Oklahoma State University (the Cowboys, NOT the Sooners). I have relatives in Enid as well and have been there many times.

Yeah, would have to agree, there is definitely something spiritual about Tahoe -- you definitely don't have to be a Native American to feel it, but for them it contains sacred burial ground.

On the subject of Tamoxifen and side effects, I'm wondering this.... Just think about all of us and our life circumstances at the time we are starting Tamoxifen. Most of us have been through one kind of hell or another and our bodies must be in turmoil. For example, due to my tissue expanders, I haven't been able to sleep on my right side like I've done for years and years. Therefore, I'm sure I'm not getting as much sound sleep as before. Also, I'm probably contorting around all night trying to find a comfortable position. In the process, different body parts could be strained. So I wake up after a sleepless night, with a sore hip and a sore neck, and proclaim it's all due to the Tamoxifen.

Entirely logical, I would think, until I think about all the other things going on. And I had a little bit of wine last night and didn't get the least bit tipsy.  (Darn it!)  Anyway, just food for thought....and speaking of food, now I have the munchies....

**Cute pics, Rachel. What is the little guy playing in? (the pic with the water)
