Hi ladies. Well, just picked up my Rx for Tamoxifen today. Actually happy to be finally doing something to help fight for the future. It's been a long recovery from my UMX/Latissimus surgery.
Any tips on the best time to take it? a.m. vs p.m? I guess I'll just try it in the morning and see what happens.

Jo-comeon. no apology needed. If you can't laugh, what the hell use is there.
Tink-Hurry up and wait is something that should be reserved only as a form of corporal punishment.
mpeaches-How sick that we are all happy over herniated discs, really? Glad Mammo over and done with.
Kay1963-know that scared you, but they really can raise the heart function pretty easily.

Hey girlies!!! I have my love back for 3 weeks, yahoo!!!!! I am so excited to have her here even if its just for a short time. I did get to spend the day n night with her yesterday, but she ditched me tonite. Go figure, lol. I guess I'll have to share her with the rest of the world, for now atleast.
I am so tired of the dang hot flashes. I was hoping that they would let up but they haven't, grrrr.
((((Tink)))))) I hope they get your squared away and quickly.
Sherry Im glad you had a blast on your trip. Do you have pics to post?
Welcome to you new gals here. This is the best place to be. I know in the beginning its so scary. But just take deep breaths and you'll do fine. I did at the start cut my pills in half and took one in the am then the pm. That got to be a pain in the arse after a few weeks so I just went full force and took the whole pill at once. I do have hot flashes like crazy still. But I keep hoping they will just go away soon. Joint pain for me comes and goes. I just pop a few Advils and go on my merry way. Good Luck!!
June I pray all went well with your mammogram!
(((jenn))) I will have you in my prays as well. I will make for sure June doesnt whack you with any pillows, lol . If she comes at you I will get her for ya, lol
Take care my Tammo sissys and have a fab night!!!!!!!!!

Hey Paula sweet lady everything came back totally fine, as I knew it would. I have no idea why I make more out of it than not......well I do have an idea.....duh!! Oh yea and just when your not looking I will find you and not sure how hard of a whack it will be, but it will be a doosy.....kiss kiss friend, that is so you wont be mad at me,.....he he
When I started the pill I took it at night but ended up with huge insomnia and me and no sleep is not pretty......so I switched it up to the morning and all is fine. Yes there were minor issues and I just deal with them as they come along. Like right now I am 1 1/2 years into the pill and I am having huge stomach isses. They say I have ulcers, but funny how I never had them before so I basically live on prilosec and so far so good.....we will see what happens next...I say swallow that little white pill and we will all be here for you when you need it.....these gals are AWESOME!!!
I did this once before and not sure how the font got this big......grabbed your attention now didn't I????
WHACK...WHACK....WHACK and this one is just for Paula......

survivor - At times, I consider myself the "class clown" on here. Constantly trying to find the positive and hopefully make all you wonderful gals laugh or at least smile from time to time. We all need it.
jwilco - I started taking a split dose - half in the morning/half at bedtime. Had stomach issues with Arimidex and Femara so Tami had me concerned. No problems to speak of. I got tired of splitting the stupid pill and decided to take the whole thing at breakfast with a glass of milk. That worked great for me and I do think my body adjusted to it and now I don't have to do the milk thing and it just ends up in the mix of all my other pills. Good luck to you.

jwilco - Welcome to the club..
Paula - Hope you enjoy the time with your daughter.
Kay - Best of luck at the cardiologist on Thursday.. Can't join the pocket party that day as I have surgery that afternoon but will think of you .
Wishing all my Tammi sisters a good night.

Hi there. It has been a while but I check in on all of you from time to time. Hang in there. Question: any of you having problems with nightime leg cramps??
0 -
Hi Teklya - Sure have missed you. Can't help with the leg cramps but I am pretty sure someone will come along with some help.

Thanks for the welcome. I will take my first pill tomorrow a.m. so we will see how it goes. I'm optimistic. I've had gastric bypass so I don't think I will have stomach issues since it won't get there to begin with.
I guess I'll let you all know how it goes....

Thank you ladies all I can say is that I would be so lost without you all! I kinda feel like having a little temper tantrum tonight lol!!!! hmmmm where is my whacker lol!!!
I have an appt for my 6 month check with my onc on Dec 5th I wil discuss this with her as well. I know she mentioned it would also be time for a bone density test because of the Tamoxifen.. will let you know her thoughts on this
thanks again and hugs to you all!

I was just wondering about a bone density test also. I'm 40 and just had ooph a month ago. Been on Tammi for 4 months. When should I get my first test?
0 -
@ Teklya: Yes! I am having nocturnal leg cramps. I see my medical oncologist this week and will bring it up with him, along with the ongoing joint pain.

Teklya, I too have leg and foot cramps from time to time. No real pattern to it, they kinda come and go. Eating a banana everyday seems to help some. I also heard drinking tonic water before bed can help, too.
Dawn, I am having my first bone density scan end of this month ( same day as the mammogram ). I'm 44, my ooph was in September, and I've been on tami for 9 months. It wouldn't hurt to have one in a month or 2, as a baseline. My PCP ordered it for me, and I hear they are simple tests.
Hope everyone is having a good week!

Teklya where have you been hiding? I don't have leg cramps but I had toe cramps and I just ate a banana a day. I also have very bad joint pain but according to my team of Doctors here, it is not a SE.....
Hope you ladies are having a wonderful Wednesday!!

I had leg cramps but I think mine was from not enough liquids. Atleast thats the info I got of the www. Since I have increased my water intake I have'nt had any.

Thanks for the info on bone density test ladies. Will be sure to talk to MO and GYN about this.

hi all - tekla I had/have major toe cramps from time to time starting right after when I started Tamoxifen. Like the other ladies who suffer with this I try to eat bananas at least every other day and it helps.

I was also told to bump up my calcium intake and drink more water. They are painful and definitely from Tamoxifen. I have also had my new hair thin out (also from the blessed drug) and returned to wearing my wig! Cancer, 3 steps forward and 4 back. . .

Hello ladies! Has been a while since the last time I posted here... to be honest I tried to forget last year and the bc thing but with tamoxifen on the wagon, is hard to forget sometimes.
Sorry I come here to vent, I just need it! Hubby tries to understand and be supportive but he really doesn't get it and same happens with friends, they think is something you can just "turn on/off" as you want and that is something like simple "hormonal changes" like when you are having your period.
Oh well, tamox side effects on me:
hot flashes heck yeah! All time! Like when dressing my girl to go out (winter is here in Oslo) sometimes I wonder how many showers a day I really need
mood swings... I'm in! Sometimes I fear tamox makes me a terrible person with my husband and a horrible mother for my baby girl. I have less patience than before and can get irritable for the simplest things. Is not always, but often when my period is around. The combo "happy days" + tamox is really explosive!
leg cramps and joints pain... Me! Me! Although need to confess that I have seen an improvement since I joined the gym about 2 months ago. I'm with a personal trainner (bloody expensive here in Norway!) who kicks "gently" my butt and helps me to workout all those muscles that I forgot I had. The workout is far from what I used to do two years ago but is doing the job. I feel better, my endurance is improving and in general I think it worths every single cent I'm paying. So, I totally reccomend it! Join the gym and do exercise, easy .. step by step.
weight gain I gained like 10 kilos! ok not all of them are tamox fault, post pregnancy weight was stuck too. Now, the gym workout helps and I can see some changes in my body but still I know that on this not even the best PT will help me to loose that extra tamox kilos.
That's it! I'm feeling better already just by posting this... aaaah tamox I have a love/hate relationship with youuuuuuuu!!!!
Hug to all!
Joy

Hi Joy - This is the place to let it all out. These ladies are great - lots of support here. I really don't have any side effects from the Tamox - guess I am one of the lucky ones - or perhaps part of it is because I am on an antidepressant for the nerve damage I have from rads. Come here and vent anytime you want - we are hear to listen to you.
Good Morning Tink, June, Paula and all the other Tammi gals out there.

Joy.....totally ok to vent to us, that is what we are here for and it feels good sometimes just to get it off your chest. Hi Jo, Tink, Sherry, Paula, Odie and all the other wonderful tammy gals......hope you are enjoying this Thursday, 1 day closer to the weekend.....woo hoo.....I hear a pillow fight coming on and Paula starting it!
