Harley....thanks for the invite. Folley Beach is just 15 minutes from Charleston.....you would be north of there. If I can manage to save enough money in this economic downturn....I would be bringing my husband, son-inlaw, two daughters and 2 grandchildren. We would rent a house and hopefully they will all be able to come. My husband has some business travel in June...so scheduling will be around his calendar.......BUT I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE INVITE!Cool

If I manage to make it over there.......I will be sure to get in touch with you.

Harley, I was an intermediate metabolizer of Tamoxifen *1*4......and taking tomoxifen for 2 years and then Arimidex 3 years has a better outcome per clinical studies. I was wondering if after the 3 years of Arimidex should all go well.......would I be able to take another AI for 5 years???

    Talk to you soon,

    Love,

    Terry

Well, dh didn't get the mulch, so I was safe.

    Terry,

Oh, we are planning a trip to Charleston in the Spring, with my MIL.  Your vacation plans sound fun!  I hope you can go.  It would still be nice if we could meet somewhere along the way, but I understand.

Yes, I heard about the studies which suggest that 2 years of Tamoxifen followed by 3 years of Arimidex were better, but I wonder if we could keep taking the AI for 5 years, to extend our benefit a little longer.  At least, I hope so.

Good luck!  Let me know what your onc tells you.

    HUGS

    Harley,

If I make it over to S.C. in June........I definately will get in touch.....your state is not that longLaughing. My husband loves to golf....and teaches golf as his second job. He is preparing for his retirement and golf is his retirement job. My retirement job is taking care of my grandson. My other daughter is having her first child first week in May 2009......so I am hoping for a little girl.

Anyway......I hope all works out and we can meet. I think that when any of us sisters travel to a different state....we should research which sisters on this message board are near by....and then see if they would be interested in meeting.

You know......I think each state should have a annual gathering of sisters. My state of California would have to be divided into 3 or more sections because it is so long....but I would love to meet with fellow sisters.

Well....I will let you know what my onc thinks.....I see him in November.

    Love,

    Terry

    Terry,

I will pm you my phone number, so you can call me when it gets closer to your vacation time.  You are right.  This is a golf mecca, and there are just tons of golf courses around here.  DH and I don't play golf, but most of the people we have met at the coffee shop DO play golf.

Congratulations on the new grand baby on the way!!

I agree, we should have get togethers for all the bc sisters who live in our area.  So far, I have met two women in NC, one lives near me, in the Sunset Beach area, and the other lives in Wilmington, and I see her whenever I have a dr. appt. in Wilmington; my onc and my ps are both in Wilmington.

Hope to hear from you soon!!

    Hugs

    Hi girls,

My cousin was taking tamoxifen, then switched to arimidex, now on Femara. Anyway, she has a bottle of tamoxifen . We hate to see it go to waste. Can anyone use it?Please send me a pm and I will send it to you.

Hi Harley, nice to see you.

Hi to anyone else I know. I am not on this thread as I take arimidex. Hugs to you all.

Murph- I'm very mad at your BoSox...  I wanted them to win b/c I am a Mets fan...and I don't like the Phillies as much as Yankee fans dislike the BoSox...  Oh well...  I will have to root for the Rays...

Barbie!  I'm here...this is me waving...  I've been trying to figure out what "normal" is now that I'm not sick anymore and I don't have to take care of my Dad...  It's been weird.  Been trying to clean up and organize my house...

Posted a new Doofie picture of myself.  I swear I am so unphotogenic it's not funny.  These pics have been horrible.  I guess I am almost getting to the point where I am going to have to break down and get a trim...

    Hugs to all...

Virginia - I like the new pic!  I noticed it right away.  I've found my hair to be super dry since taking tamox.  Probably just another benefit we had from estrogen in our bodies.  Oh well, Aveda has a nice product for dry hair too.  Is that house cleaning a Wii game?  ;-)

Candie - your avatar photo looks like somewhere I'd like to be.

I'm fast approaching my one year anniversary from my surgery.  I took the day off work because I don't know how I will feel.  I just am not in the mood to celebrate anything.  harumph...

Virginia - I felt badly for the Red Sox, but truly happy for Rays.  What a great story, from last to first place.  Now I won't have my picture take with 3 World Series trophies.  The picture I have posted on this site is of me and my two kids with the 2004 & 2007 World Series trophies.  I'm relieved I won't have to try and stay up late watching the games.  LOL!

You lucky ladies who live down South and don't have the winters!!  My mom lived outside of Wilmington (Hampstead) and I would visit her frequently while she was undergoing her ovarian cancer treatments ... haven't been down there since 1996, since she passed.

Good luck to the folks who are job hunting.  I hope something comes along for you!

Have a nice evening ... I'm pooped, I'm almost ready to go to bed and it's only 7:00 pm!!!!

    Hi Dear Gals,

Thanks for the well wishes for my boy. It's a bumpy road anyway for a college student, then add in the bipolar piece. My dh and I think we'll be actively parenting till we're 90...

I think it's the Tamox that's causing all the joint pain. I've always been athletic, but never had such consistent sore back, hips, feet. Grrrr! Yoga and massage do help.

Just stopping by to say hello and wish everyone a great day.  I'm on my first real business trip since returning to work after BC.  Two back to bacjk conferences - in Las Vegas.  Been walking miles each day between the Expo Halls, the size of the hotels here and doing some sightseeing.  Treated myself last night to see "Menopause the Musical".  If you haven't seen it, put it on your list.  I laughed all the way through it!

    Take care all.

    Hi, ladies--

<:AtomicElement>I've been reading but not posting.  It's been a busy week!

<:AtomicElement>My nasty vein is much better.  It's still distended and a little tender, but not like it was.  I've been taking anti-inflammatory drugs and sleeping in my compression socks, so it seems to be helping.  I guess the crisis has passed...now I have to have my bill from the Japanese hospital translated so I can submit it to BCBS.  It's always something.

<:AtomicElement>I don't know about y'all, but I can't wait until this election is over...win, lose, or draw re: my candidate, who will remain nameless.  At least over here we don't have the ads on TV that seem to be endless; I'm just so sick of all the mudslinging.  Ack.  Enough already!

<:AtomicElement>VA, I love your new picture!  I can imagine that you feel a little strange with no one to take care of.  Be good to yourself...lots of Wii games. :-)

<:AtomicElement>Basha, glad you had a good trip to England...sounds wonderful.  Hopefully the son will be on the right track soon.  Welcome back!

<:AtomicElement>Harley and Terry, how cool that y'all will get together in the Carolinas soon.  Harley, good luck w/ the job search...keep the faith.

<:AtomicElement>Barbie and Murph, hope you're doing well.  Barbie, I love your two-tone shoes!

<:AtomicElement>Joan, glad you're enjoying Vegas!  I've heard that "Menopause" is hysterical.

<:AtomicElement>It'll be a busy weekend.  Friday is bunco; Saturday is laundry, and mass in the late afternoon.  Sunday I'm catching a bus at 6 a.m. for the Nagasaki half-marathon.  This time last year when I was undergoing treatment, several of my bunco friends/teaching colleagues had t-shirts made and ran the half marathon as "Team Rynn"--it isn't a myth that the Japanese can't distinguish between l's and r's.  They're running again w/ the shirts, so I'll don mine and act as cheerleader.  It should be fun.  Then another teacher is having a Mexican feast in the afternoon, so I'll be putting on the feedbag there.  Sigh...I'll never fit into my cold-weather pants, and the cold weather is fast approaching.

<:AtomicElement>Take care, everyone...hi to all I didn't mention by name.  Sorry...

So Lynn, your post was hilarious!  Then the followup with the bold...priceless.

I have to tell you gals that for the past few days I have been having horrible hot flashes!  Like WTH!  I've been on the danged Tamox for almost 1.5 years...  I don't know if it's because now I'm starting to use heat at home and I'm not regulating it well, or what.  I'm sitting here at my desk now sweating and I'm usually FREEZING in my cube b/c I have a high ceiling and I swear all the heat get's sucked up 20 feet in the air.  I have a space heater under my desk that is usually cranked.  Just so weird that I'm all of the sudded back to having these hot flashes...so annoying.

Ok, thanks for letting me vent....

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

    Hugs...

    Murphmort,

I am glad to live here in NC, where it is warmer, but we have had a cool snap, and it is staying rather cool here lately.  UGH!  I've been wearing sweat pants and long sleeve sweatshirts!

    Basha,

I think of you often, and pray that your son is doing ok.  I have a sister who is bipolar and she is also mildly mentally retarded, and it is very difficult at times.

I have been having some success with taking Alleve for the joint pains, but maybe it is just all in my head.  I also do yoga, but sometimes I over do  those stretches, and then I am even sorer!

    Joan,

Good Luck with your business trip!  What kind of work do you do?

    'Rynn'..... lol   too funny!!!  Lynn,

Glad the anti inflammatory drugs are working!!   That is too funny about your friends, it's nice that your friends are going to run the half-marathon for you!!

I may not get to meet Terry, but I am hoping so.

This has been a busy week for me, job hunting.  I went into town and asked a few shop owners if they needed help.  They did take my name, address, and phone number, and one sounded promising, because she said that she is expecting someone who is not a 'permanent' resident here in NC to be going back home soon.  Since I'm not too thrilled about working retail again, I am hopeful that one of the other job possibilities, with the county government comes through.

I agree with you, Lynn.... I'll be SO glad when this election hooplah is over!  You are lucky that you are not getting phone calls from the campaign offices, like me.  Every night, when we sit down to dinner,  we get a phone call from SOMEONE wanting to convince us to vote for this candidate or that, or to ask us who we are favoring in this election!  We get 2 or 3 calls a day from them!  I guess that part of it is my fault, because I refuse to pick a party...  Dem or Rep, so I list myself as ind.

It sounds like you will be very busy this weekend!  Dh and I are going to pick tomatoes Sunday morning, and later in the day, we are hoping to can them!  This is a tradition that was started by our mil and fil, before my fil died, about 3 years ago, from metastatic kidney cancer.  When I lived in MD, we had to can tomatoes in late August, but here, we can wait til late October!!

I am going shopping with my mil today.  I should re-phrase that... I'm going to lunch with my mil today.  She always suggests that we go shopping, and we end up just going to lunch!  I can not fit into any of my cold weather clothes, either!  Just that one pair of sweat pants!!  If I get a job, I'll look real professional, going to work in the blue sweat pants and one of my sweat shirts!

    Hugs to all,

    Harley

    Virginia,

I was posting while you were posting!!   I am sorry that you are having trouble with those darn HOT FLASHES!  I find that when I am feeling stressed, I am HOT FLASHING like crazy!  Since it has gotten cooler here, I seem to be getting less of those flashes.  But now that I mentioned it, I will be sweating all day and all night!  We have a little ceramic heater in our bedroom, because the heat pump heat in our house doesn't get into our bedroom.  It gets SO COLD in there, that sometimes I get icicles on my NOSE!!

    Hope the situation corrects itself!!!

Hi girls - well, the hot flashes must be contagious.  I wear winter Under-Armour when I go to my son's football games to try and keep warm.  It's pretty funny when I get the hot flashes during a Friday night game!!!!   Its like a furnace!  This weekend, I won't have to worry about wearing my Under-Armour as it's an away game on Saturday game at 1:00 pm.

Still have not got my period .... it's 8 days late and I rescheduled my colonscopy from next Tuesday to mid-November.  I would have preferred to get that over and done with.  My sister was really on me to get the colonoscopy.

I declined attending a business meeting for mid-November.  It's going to be held in Tampa, nice and warm, but I just didn't feel like I could go.  The dinners are very long, with speakers and awards/recognition presentations afterwards.  It was not an issue with my manager - his wife is also a breast cancer survivor.  She was diagnosed in June and has called me several times, just to talk.   She's done with her rads, and is doing well.

Well, I'm off to make an apple pie.  I promised my son I would make one this week for him.  I'll have a slice for all you ladies!!

prayrv---finished the tamox on the 15th, but just saw this  thread now! Thanks so much for your support... It does feel strange not to be taking those 2 little white pills every am. My hot flashes, insomnia and achiness have not subsided as yet, but it will be interesting to see if they do as time goes on.  Apparently it takes about 6 weeks for tamox to get out of your system. After a short break of a few months, I may be starting on Evista (still doing my research, but all my docs think it's a good idea for my situation--high risk due to LCIS and family history).  I don't relish the idea of another long term medication, but it beats the alternative. I only hope I can tolerate it as well as I have the tamox.

    Barbie,

That was my vacation I took this past Feb....Riviera Maya in Mexico...it was so beautiful!!!

I also find that stress brings on hot flashes. I know that some girls take effexor for that. Ask your Dr's about it.

My GYN suggested Black Cohosh for managing hot flashes.  Anyone try that?  I've been fortunate to be able to handle the periodic ones I am experiencing so haven't tried anything yet.

Joan!  LOL, I work for a major manufacturer of foods/beverages in R&D in New Jersey!!  (I'm thinking you can guess which one, although I have "given it away" by recounting my Ben & Jerry's binges...

Rynn- I LOVE the pic!  You should have had one take with you in it as well!!  :)

Harley- HUGS girl and thanks for the support...  You are a gem...

Murph- my cycle was kind of wonky as well...  who the heck knows what goes on.  I've given up trying to decide.  Rays won last night, didn't they?  That made me happy as I can't stand the Filthies...

Still battling the crazy hot flashes...don't quite know why...  Oh well...  Like you gals all say, just another question to add to the list for the onc.

Monday is my mammo...getting a little freaked over that...  I'm sure it will be fine, but always at the back of the head, eh?

Oh, and I can't remember who the SHOE person was but I ordered 4 pairs of shoes on line yesterday and they are "out for delivery" today!  I can't believe how fast that was!  So, I'll be parading around my family room in my new shoes playing my Wii tonight...  LOL

    Hugs girlies...

Hi All - Crazy couple of weeks.  Spoke in Chicago about Exercise and Breast Cancer...the other half of the slot was about the Komen 3 day and how they made the Chicago one accessible to all.  I am ready to go on one of those walks now....I did sign up for the Shamrock 1/2, I ran it last year right before my 2nd chemo...bet I can PR this year...ha ha

I am sick with a bad cold, cough, can't talk and my DH is making me go to the dr....I never got sick before BC....and I was supposed to get the flu shot yesterday...but they wouldn't give it to me b/c I had a cold.  Hope they can get me better soon.  I have a group of friends who meet regulary....and I missed the ya ya meeting last night b/c of this stupid cold.....ok, enough whining.

Posted a new pic...but you really can't see all my curls...had to buy a pick to keep it all even.  I had a little wave before....but these are real curls...its easy to handle for now

Sorry to hear about everyone's ups and downs....it is that way here too, my Mom is in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer....that or they nicked something when they did her cath a couple of weeks ago...they have already given her 4 pts of blood...she is 78 and not in the best health...and everytime I call her she is worried about Dad driving back and forth to the hospital alone...he is 84.  They are about 90 min away, so as soon as I get well I hope to get down.

    Off to the doc

Basha, it was me having my mammo this morning...  I had a 8:30 appt. and they had me out of there by 9:00.  I got the ALL CLEAR!  Now I just wish the lump in my throat would go away...I was so nervous this time.  I don't know why.  MRI in February and a followup mammo in 6 months, although my onc didn't send me for that last time...

Good luck Basha that you have as good a result as me...  :)
