Samsue, when you have a vacation property you keep it stocked with food and clothing during the season you use it. When you don't plan on being there for a while, you empty the fridge and cupboards so the food doesn't waste. Sometimes you have to turn off the water in case the pipes freeze in the winter and then burst inside your home!! Some people take linen back home as well as extra clothes. There are insurance reasons for securing a property.

The boys are back on the beach!

Barbe, I guess I just didn't understand why you couldn't go to the "summer house" all year long....

Marlegal................we will have to meet up one of these days................What a gorgeous weekend you had...............good for you...............I would love to stay open longer, but I have to do what the kids want, since they are my help, and they do have lives of their own.........enjoy yourself.......................hugs.

Samsue................when my husband was alive (20) years ago, we went to the shore (as Philly people call it) every weekend summer, through till the next summer................nothing kept us back...........hurricanes (unless they made you leave)...........snow, cold, or extreme heat............but once he died no one wanted to go down other then the warmer weather...............Thus you close it up...........for all the reasons Barb said...............it gets cold down there and you have to worry about everything..................I have an inground pool, so I also have that to be concerned about..................everything gets shut down, turned off, and emptied out......fridge doors get left open after unplugging, and the dishwasher door is left open too.......I have my sprinkler system drained too..............many think a vacation home is something that you go to, and when your done, just close the door and leave..................no so..............they are a lot of work................but when the next season comes, and your sitting by the pool, having a drink, or on the beach with your grandchildren you say to yourself............"yes, this is all worth it", and it is....................0

Hello, I also just found this thread too, I so love the beach but never seem to be able to get there ! I live 800mts above sea level, and have a haven of wild feathered friends to keep me company on there passing daily journeys, and a few hopeful treats along there way include seed, honey and meat for the kookaburras, chabba your image has a resemblance to the Australian Kookaburra family, I wonder how close ! I am not fluent in ornithology but am a massive bird lover in general, I will have to learn how to up-load an image as I am always taking images of them while they are playing among the mountain-ash eucalyptus trees, chasing and now mating/nesting as it is spring here now, love this time of year.0

mum, your dh's bird pix are exceptional ..they always are but I love the last ones

I just found this thread and I LOVE the pictures. I live in RI so I'm surrounded by the ocean. I love it even in winter. After treatment? Kind of.... Surgery 'check', Radiation 'check' (after 4 more boosts) antihormonal errr.. 5 more years. Cheaper apt 'check' Now, to: 1) find a job and 2) a guy (Maybe) My daughter says forget-about-it Mom, you've already had enough. lol I gave birth to an old fart.

bedo, Not sure how old your daughter is, but I think she is a lot like my daughter. I cannot believe she keeps telling me she is going to try to get me on What Not To Wear. If she tells me one more time what Stacey and Clinton would say about my outfit, I am going to scream.
Been going back through some of the pages. Love the pictures too! I love the beach. I know some people love the change of seasons, but I really miss summer already.

Kay, I have been told never to wear my "prison outfit" (Black and white striped top and black pants) or "Jolly Green Giant outfit" (green sweatshirt and sweatpants) Haha too bad. She took me shopping at the Gap and told me "no unauthorized purchases" I told her, oh, yeah? I bet you don't even know why it's called the Gap. It was named after the "Generation Gap" a long time ago. I'm not as stupid as I look, so there.

LisaI just went to Newport to an old theater who's name I can't remember and saw "Sarah's Key" then ate at a restaurant across the street. I would not make a good critic. Don't remember the name of the movie theater or restaurant, as my Volvo is 15 years old and has 235,900 miles and no one will let me drive, so I just day dream on the way there. I love Newport. I want everything I see in the stores there.0

Thank You so much ladies for your welcome arms, how gorgeous are the flip-flops, I like the pink ones...The boys are back image, wow I just love looking at that one. I too have some dear come to my back yard as it backs onto a National park, I think they are English of origin and they know to seek refuge where its safe on my property. The " Rainbow Lorikeets" are the local boss of the birds lately, fearless, but so small, you may have to google that one until I work out how to load a picture. Have a lovely day to you all, cyber hugs and Thanks0

Samsue, our "home" is a 35=foot trailer with two additions built onto it. We own the land, it's a condo camground (I kid you not) and between Nov 1 and March 1 you can only be there on weekends, and because the pipes aren't very far undergound they could freeze easily, so you'd have to drain the pipes and pour antifreeze down the drains every time you went down during that time period. We start going in the spring and usually be late October, we're ready to just stick around the house and do those projects we ignored all spring/summer/fall, get ready for the holidays, etc. etc.
Kay, I love going over to the boardwalk in Wildwood during the summer and being part of the craziness - that's part of the whole shore experience that I never get tired of!
Ducky, when our kids were younger and in school we didn't go down much after Labor Day either - too many school activities going on. Now that we're empty nesters, we can do what we want, but I still find that once cool weather hits, I'm ready to close it up.
Welcome to all the newcomers - I love seeing this thread grow and thrive

Mar.............this is the first year that I had our house system winterized.......nornally I just put the heat on low in the 2 bathrooms, and the laundry room..........last year I got "killed" with the heat bills, so I decided this year I will bite the bullet and really "close" it up.............I have the both houses to pay for in the winter, so I can use a break, and decided this is the season I am doing it.............Watch, this year will be a warm winter, after I paid a plumber to winterize the house.
My kids are all grown............54, down to 42, so I have been an empty-nester for years.....My oldest grandchild is 29, and has 2 babies of her own, so the children I had down the shore were my grandchildren..............my youngest was 17 when we bought the house.
Was on the Wildwood boardwalk this summer just to go to Sam's for pizza.............you would not belive what has happened to that place...........horrible, and it is a shame...........Wildwood regardless of what the advertisements say is not a "family town" anymore..................North Wildwood is, and so is Wildwood Crest, but as for the Center, forget it............terrible...........as a kid when we would go to the boardwalk we would be clean, dressed, and the people were great...............the only ones you saw sitting on the benches were the elderly watching the crowd go by, enjoying the night air off the ocean..................not anymore..................it is a disgrace, but that is another story.
Well I am looking forward to next season already, can't wait for the months to go by, so I can get down again, to my house, and my pool.

NEWBIES NEWBIES NEWBIES!!!!!
We welcome one & all to our beach -- it certainly doesn't matter to us where you are in your BC journey..... as long as you like the beach, you're welcome here!!!
Continue to hang out & you'll get to know us in time.
Thank heavens Samsue was acting as hostess and Welcome-Wagon chairperson.
Come and go as often as ya like...... soak up our sunshine and friendships. We are a pretty global collection of sand & surf lovers.
I have 'worked' the last four days in a row presenting a series of concerts for fall festivals and a school or two..... glad to put my feet up tomorrow and attempt to get caught up on all things cyber.
My almost 28 year old DD (how is that possible?) and her neighbor and I went to see the movie, "The Help" tonight. Her sweet neighbor is black and from Tennessee and between our ages.... it was a very meaningful night of womanly bonding, conversation, observations and reflections. Sigh.
These are several shots from the summer -- now fleeting images in my heart & memory from our amazing summer in heaven. Hope they bring a sense of calm.
