Lori - You look beautiful. I wish it were closer up. 9 months PFC today and I've already lost lashes twice. Now some of the lashes on the left side have just broken off leaving stubs. The gift that keeps on giving. I still have only about 2 1/2 inches of straight hair (doesn't lay flat though). They say it's probably from the Femara.

I used the follicle booster twice a day and just left it there. The smell goes away. Morning and then at night. If I could have put it on more during the day, I probably would have at that point too!

Linda - it will come. I am 12 weeks pfc today and am stil wearing a headscarf. The brows and lashes fell out and came back all at once.
Take care, hang in there, Judy x

Okay I must ask I am about 22 weeks out from my last chemo. and my hair about 1 1/2 in. is straight. Do you think this will mean it will stay straight ??
0 -
Jaimieh- I'm no expert, but I am sure you are safe. I'm 24 weeks pfc, and the curls are very obvious and have been for a long time. Congratulations on skipping the curls. They make the hair really difficult to deal with, and make it seem much shorter than it really is.

Hi Girls... I haven't been on this site in months. I really had a heck of a time with my chemo, had to stop, switch etc. My body apparently hates chemo I now have chemo infusions every Monday (Abraxane), which extended my chemo treatments by two months. The good news... I only have two Mondays to go ! Monday, Nov 2nd is my last one. Man oh man it has been a long time coming. Nice to see some of the same names out here (Chelev). Where's Lisa 1964 ? I am now just so excited to begin the regrowth of hair, brows and lashes. I'm going to go out an buy every single thing you girls have discussed!! I am so sick and tired of bald. My brows have been gone for a couple of months now and my lashes are falling out. To hear that some of you grew them back only to have them fall out again is disheartening (to say the least). I hate the whole brow thing - seems like I can never draw them on to look alike. Or my favorite, when I draw one higher than the other... This is a great thread and am looking forward to chatting with all you girls as we go through the hair thing together. Chelev - how long is your hair now ? Are you going topless now ? Happy hair growing everyone !0

Jaimieh - I think we are on the same schedule. I don't do math but my last chemo was May 27th. I have around 1-1/2" of hair also and it is straight with a little bit of wave in the back. My problem is that my hair is sticking straight up at the very top of my head and I can't get it to go down so I have started apply mouse and making it a little bit curly that way so it is not so obvious. I think of of spanky and the gang ( I know - that was years and years ago) and alfalfa had those hairs that stood straight up at the back crown of his head. That is what I look like when I get up in the mornings.
I have SO MUCH hair on the very top of my head but less on the sides near my ears. I haven't done any coloring yet - I figured I would wait another month until it got longer. I can't tell if it is mouse brown trying to turn blonde (my original color) or gray with white in it. I really do need to get my eyes checked! Still checking the mirror every night when I go to bed

Lucy, you are cracking me up about the eyebrows!! I did the same thing! Some women are using the eyebrow stencils, I think Anastasia and a few others have them. When I had enough clear / gray brow hairs to get waxed into some sort of shape, I did that, and the girl then filled in the rest with a light brow pencil so I would have an idea of what to do. So far, so good. The brows really aren't too bad, though I honestly thought they would come in much fuller. Lashes seem to be growing back - the right eye is longer than the left, but at least I can put mascara on again and not look like a deer caught in the headlights. They'd better fall out randomly from here on out is all I gotta say.
Okay, so I am 6 months PFC on Friday - here is my hair now. I have had 2 trims about a week apart last month, so the fuzzy chemo hair is gone. I am getting lots of wavy hair in the back that no matter what I do I can't straighten, but I've found I can get my tiny flat iron to straighten my bangs and I am using lots of product - both before blowdrying as flat as I can get it, and after to make it piecy. Still too short to really use the iron but I am cramming what I can in there to help soften the weird waves. On day two after shampooing, I make it spikier. At least it looks more like a planned haircut than growth. Jancie, mine is almost identical to yours with growth - lots of hair on top, the back isn't too bad but the sides are really taking their sweet time!

I have had professional color (thanks to the wonderful Joseph Mullen in NYC) in September and am scheduled to have color again at the end of this month by my stylist here. Now that the cuts are growing in, I am trying to resist the urge to get trims and let it get shaggy and grow . . . Must Not Go Near Scissors!!!
Lucy, I have gone "topless" since late July - it was just too darn hot here to wear wigs and once I had enough hair covering my head, off with the bandanas too. It was very freeing!! I am just glad I did this during the summer, I can't imagine our sisters going through baldness in the winter in northern climates where it's already cold. I have to wear a scarf on chilly nights if we are out riding around in our jeep - the back of my neck gets really cold!!

Chelev, what a wonderful picture. Your hair is looking great. It really looks thick and healthy and you look vibrant! No longer looking like a cancer patient. You can see the wave in there, I hope it doesn't turn into those awful chemo curlz and you get to keep just that little wave. BEAUTIFUL GIRL

Be good to you!

Chelev - Girl, loving the pic !! I can't wait to go "topless". Two more weeks and then I get to start the countdown to "PFC". I just keep telling myself I'll have hair for summer. Though the no armpit / leg hair thing works for me.. Have a great day girls. Here's hoping for a full inch during the month of November !0

Chelev... you have bangs? WAAAHHHH.... I want me some bangs! What kind of shampoo/conditioner are you using? Also, are you using any of the Nioxin products? Lastly, what is your vitamin routine?

chelev the picture is fantastic i know you have had a rough time isn't it great to look like you planned that hairdo not chemo do i love mine with the wave have learned to deal with it and i just blow it dry and go i am almost 9 mos PFC and have had two trims and two real hair cuts my hair has always been short so i am thinking i will keep it that way for now it is nice because even when it grows out i don't have to rush for a trim the curls make it look great whatever the length
KEEP GROWING SHARON

Thanks, everyone! Momofboys - I'm sorry!!!!! I've been pulling on them - maybe that is why they are growing?? No, really, they are pretty short and curly until I drag them into the flat iron (risking third degree burns to my forehead, but I don't care) and then use molding paste or something to keep them from curling. Otherwise, they are all curly and weird looking. I am still taking biotin in the a.m. (5,000 mg), then in the afternoon, I take a hair/skin/nails supplement that has some other stuff in it plus more biotin, and then my multivitamin in the evening. No biotin in it, but it is loaded with all kinds of good for you stuff. My shampoos - I was using Mane & Tail in the beginning, but am back to stuff I used to use pre dx - I mix it up and wash every other day with either Bed Head for brunette stuff; Matrix flat out shampoo & conditioner or David Babaii for Wildaid shampoo & conditioner. Nothing really super different on that front. I did use Nioxin follicle booster up until I had mostly the entire scalp covered and I had to use rogaine for the top portion until it filled in too. That's about it. Plus I use a couple of different styling products, Short Sexy Hair pomade and some shine serum stuff.
Sharon, yes, it is definitely a relief to have the hair after the struggles I went through this summer! Yes, getting the first trim was rough (I don't wanna cut any hair off!) but it really helped shape it up and now hopefully it will just keep growing and I will learn to deal with the waves, curls or whatever sprouts out of my head, as long as it keeps on sprouting!!

Chelev....nice pic! I think we are all envious of the bangs. I didn't realize how many wrinkles they kept under cover!!

Or hides the sweat - I swear, I never knew my forehead could get so shiny so fast!!! I am constantly blotting.
I want them longer but am happy that it looks more like bangs and I planned this hairstyle than the other way around.

Jancie~ We sound exactly the same. I had blonde hair prior and it is really and odd (and not flattering on me) color. My hair also stands up and just plain does whatever in the hell it wants. I walk around with it going in all directions and I feel like a beauty queen (after all it's hair). I go today to the hairdress and I am going to see if there is anything I can do or color that I can add to make it look a little better and a little less bedhead like.

Chelev you look fantastic! I am desperate to take off my headscarf. I am 12 weeks pfc and my hair covers my head, but you can see my scalp through the top. I also need to color it - when do you think it is safe to do that?
I am not feeling brave about uncovering it. Any advice out there?
Thanks and hugs, Judy xxx

Judy - you can use some non-ammonia hair color - you can find it in the health food store. It did an alright job to cover those first hairs - and it also colors your scalp a little at first until it washes off, but I kind of liked it, it made it seem like there was more covering my head than really was. You can also try, I can't remember the name - help, ladies - but there is a hair color that is non-ammonia and gentle you can get in drugstores to put the color back in. Just keep in mind these store products don't give you the same depth of color, but some color is better than none or all of those pesky gray hairs.
I would get brave in stages - wear my wig to work but take it off in the car on the way home and wear bandanas or hats everywhere else. Then, I started wearing bandanas and scarves or hats to work, no wig, and less everywhere else. One day I just said the heck with it, and off it came - actually, looking back, I forgot my bandana at home because I was running late and oops, too late to go back, so I went uncovered at work and that was that.

I have about one and a quarter inches of (grey) hair and it's becoming seriously kinked. Very little hair over my forehead which is a real give away that this is regrowth rather than a deliberate short style. All other hair has returned and my eyelashes didn't fall out anymore. My only problem is a very dry scalp - I've tried almond oil and listerine (as advised) but so far I'm still my very own snow storm!! I use 'simple' shampoo and I haven't used any other products, colours or conditioners (except for the almond oil and listerine as mentioned). I went 'topless' quite early on - I didn't realise how sparse my hair was at the time until I saw photos - asked DH why he left me go out like that and he said if I was comfortable with it why not!! I was dropping my DH at Uni last week and we overheard one guy say to another - 'look, my hair is longer than hers!!' I like my new hair!!!

Thanks Chelev, I will try the non amonia colour.
Have a good evening, Judy x

Hey Lollys, i am like you, about 11 weeks out and my hair is now growing noticably each day or two. In fact i went to bed saturday night and was staying at a relative's house and on sunday morning they went "wow, did you hair grow since last night?" and i had thought the same thing and kept it to myself. It will grow in areas in little bursts, right now finally the front and sides are growing!
For those of you who are just out of treatment, HANG IN THERE! that first 5 - 6 weeks are so frustrating but it really does start to grow after that point. I am ALMOST ready to ditch the scarves, but not quite!
My eyebrows have grown back and are a bit unruly, i am scheduling a wax very soon, my lashes are still growing in but now at least i dont look like my eyelids are bald! Im going easier on the eyeliner now.Hey girls, did all of you notice your hair to be super soft? I am wondering if this is just how it starts out then gets courser after a while, mine feels like down feathers. it is coming in pretty thick and dark but super soft to the touch. Just wondering if it will stay this soft.

Hi TrishK. I am 12 weeks out and my hair is also baby soft. I hope it stays that way : )
Take care, Judy x

I went to see my hairdresser today to see if it is long enough for her to do anything with it and can she color or highlite it being that it is only 1-1/2" long in most areas and some places it looks like it is 2" long.
My stylist MOVED TO OREGON! I remember right before I started chemo I told her that she could not move away as it took me 8 years to find her. I never found anyone that I liked when I moved here until I saw her - at least she understood what Texas Hair meant!!
The good news is she is coming back into town once a month for one week and she will do my hair on November 2nd. I will be sure to take before and after pictures. This is really perfect timing as I will be 5 months out of chemo and it should be safe to put a semi-permanent hair color on my head. And yes.....I am going back to blonde.
I am so excited!! I told her that she would need to "trim" it ever so gently as I really don't want to lose 1/16" of my hair but talking to CCBaby - I know that I need to get the ends trimmed.
0 -
Dear jancie:
Do we have to have the ends trimmed for the color to take?
0 -
Chelev-you look so cute!!love the bangs--
Thanks Trish--mine still seems like it has slowed down but maybe a watched pot never boils!!! mine is a mousy color with grey sides was highlighted blond before ( in fact all my life it seems--just cant do anything about it right now way to short ( Maybe 1/2 inch on top --side remain short and flat--lovely!!
anyone out there on arimidex???need some feedback!!
0 -
lollys, I'm on Arimidex .... has been about 9 - 10 weeks. What do you want to know?0
-
Little Red - I don't know. CCBaby is a hair stylist and she suggested that I trim the ends when my hair gets to be 2" long so that I won't have damaged split ends. Believe me the thought of even cutting off 1/16" of an inch scares the crap out of me. When I do put the comb through my hair I notice right away that my hair is very uneven as though I am way overdue for a trim. Believe me, I will get the least amount trimmed off as possible as my hair grows so very slowly but if trimming it every 8 weeks is going to help it grow better then that is what I will do.
I was told that by several people that until your body is rid of the chemo then the hair color won't turn out right. This might be TMI but I was always able to tell I still had chemo in my body based on my urine, it had a strong odor and was bubbly. Now my urine is back to where it was before chemo so I think I am finally past that point.
I only ever colored my hair three times in the past and that was to put strawberry highlites in it. I am going to be very cautious and have my stylist use a semi-permanent dye that doesn't have chemicals in it (or very few chemicals) as I don't want to damage what little hair I have.
