I wish it was easier to post pics also. This weekend I am going to sit down with my husband and have him try to do it for me again....we did finally manage to get a picture of the one dog on the post I started about dogs being good therapy, but then he couldn't get it to do it again. Several women on here have given me instruations before and I did sign up for photobucket and I think another one....flick or something like that maybe? At first I was thinking maybe people were just saying my hair looked good to be nice also, but then I started looking at it closely myself and thought you know what, it does look good? Sometimes I look back at pics of my hair before it came out and think What was I thinking? But who hasn't thought that. I lived through a lot of styles...ratting or teasing, ironing it. perms, shag, bleached, frosted, Bo Dereck braids, asymetric. Jose Heber, huh? What did that haircut cost you?

JUDY- You look so good! I love it!
I am mastering the hair goop to make mine somewhat spikey and getting the hang of the faux hawk!

Thanks so much TrishK! I am using a Loreal anti frizz cream. It gives it a "wet" look and seems to hold it in place quite well. It is growing upwards and looks like it may have waves - I wanted straight...never mind, I am not complaining!
Helen, how are you doing???
Hugs to all for a good weekend, Judy xxx

7.5 weeks PFC and still no sign of new growth. Not complaining - just saying.

TrishK and JudyNaomi -- How far out of chemo were you two when the avatar pics were taken? I need some encouragement! I'm 5 1/2 weeks out and very little change. Can't wait to get to your stage. Hard to believe it will happen. UGH!

JudyNaomi, I'm in the same place. There is absolutely nothing happening. I have a think layer of fuzz all over my head but my scalp shows through and there are some bald spots. I also have developed a mild case of folliculitis it seems so I am using the prescription that I had from the first time. And the growth from the fuzz is painfully slow. I have been taking pics every couple of weeks and in the past month there is no change. I'm afraid I'm going to be one of those women who never get their hair back. I think it's because it's my second time. I'm very very depressed about it. I haven't seen a dermatologist yet and I will but I'm not optimistic.

((((((((hrf)))))))))) Maybe the folliculitis is from your follicles trying to sprout more hair for you. Remember Chelev had an awful case of folliculitis which slowed her hair growth, but it did come in and looks great now. I hope the dermatologist has good news for you and can help your hair get going for you.

revricki - that photo was taken last week and my last chemo was 27th July, so it is over 4 months. It does take time. I also never believed it would look like it does.
It has also started to grow more quickly since I took off the headscarf.
Helen - hang in there, I think of you often and wish that I could do something to help you other than write to you here! Let us know if you see the dermatologist.
Have a good evening, hugs to all, Judy xxx

Hi, ladies! Everyone ready for the holidays? I cannot believe I am finished shopping!
I also can't believe I'm coming up on 8 months PFC. Here is the latest - it seems like about 3" on top - the sides and back aren't as fast, but its definitely a full head of hair. Had base color and some very tame highlights to get a little depth in. I need to get out into the sun to lighten them a little more, but I don't want to go crazy yet.

Helen, you should have the dermatologist look at it - and try using some hydrogen peroxide to help dry it out - I was told that the folliculitis is from the follicles getting clogged, and some of it was from the hair trying to push through the skin and there was definite improvement once it cleared up.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Hello Hair thread, Just catching up this morning. Went on a 6 day vacation, Had lots of fun. On the going topless. I had some hair growth during chemo. Last chemo was Octobwer 25th. Wore a stocking cap bacause of the cold, but had enough hair to cover the scalp and went topless inside all over Omaha and LIncoln and saw many people with a short do. It felt good. Never wore a wig and I am saying to all that have enough hair ditch the wigs. It is so great and A great Feeling to be the one in control of your look , not the chemo. Had one person say I looked great and they did not know me or what I went through. Strength to all Dianne

I am waiting for results from a follow-up lumpectomy to get clean margins. Chemo will be scheduled for 2-3 weeks once I am clear. I am scheduled to get my hair cut tomorrow. Does it make sense to cut my hair shorter than normal to get ready? I had read that makes it easier for when you lose your hair. Or do I stay with the normal style until I find a wig? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Chelev, you look fabulous. I love your hair. I will call for referral to dermatologist

bbd - if you have LONG hair now - like down to your bra strap, it seems to help you get over the shock of losing all of your hair if you cut it short and wear it short for a little bit. Going from long to bald is a shock. I cut mine to a short bob for 2 weeks prior to starting chemo so I could handle losing my hair a little bit better - not that it helped that much.
Marybe - Yes, I had Jose Heber do my hair one time. He has a shop in Hollywood (LA), but he also goes to a shop in Dallas, Texas about 3 x per year and you have to book your appointment at least 6 months in advance to get in there. He determines the color and the style and then has the stylists do your hair as he watches over them, he reviews what they have done and has them make adjustments, etc. I told him I didn't want any color because (1) I didn't want to spend the money and (2) I had natural blonde hair. Between the consultation fee and the haircut - the cost was around $230. Mind you that was back in 1992. I am sure the cost has risen quite a bit since then. I LOVED what he did, the style was absolutely perfect for my face, age, etc. it was just too much work as I had to blow dry sections of my hair with a large roller brush to get it looking like he did it so I just let my hair grow out.
Chelev - I WANT YOUR BANGS!!!
BTW - A horse buddy of mine gave me a christmas gift last year of a soap product that exfoliates the skin. A light bulb went off last week - what if I used that soap on my face to get rid of the peach fuzz growing on my cheeks from chemo? Remember, I was the one that was too scared to shave. I have used this product 5x now when I shower - just on my face and I scrub my face really good and the peach fuzz in finally disappearing. It is not all gone but I would have to say 50% of it is gone!
If you want to try it - I found it online at www.bodycompletenow.com You click on Skincare and it is called Sugar Creme Skin Smoother - size is 13.4 oz and it costs $13.95. You could probably buy it in a local bath soap shop - I don't know. She gave me the orange ginger smell one and it does smell good and it does make your skin feel smooth when you use it. Oh and as little as I use this stuff will last me 3 years.
Question - the top of my scalp is very tender. I have a ton of hair (not long - just lots of it) so is the tenderness from the hair trying to grow or what? The only time before I felt my scalp feeling tender was right before my hair started falling out from chemo. This has been an on-going issue for weeks but kept forgetting to ask the question.

bbd -- you might want to go wig shopping before you cut your hair - especially if what you want is to get a wig cut and died to look like yours (some do). I got a wig that looked better than my real hair... but then I didn't cut my hair short until just before my second chemo treatment (they say the hair falls out after your second if you have them every two weeks DD as I did). So I got my chemo on mondays and on the friday before my second treatment I went and had a buzz cut (I had very long hair). First my hair dresser cut my hair to about 4 inches in length and it looked surprisingly cute! But then I decided to buzz if down to like 3/4 inch because my reason for cutting my hair was so that I wouldn't have to wake up in the morning and find fistfuls of my long hair on the pillow. It worked too... but it still sucked to lose my hair. Though, because I cut it short first, I felt empowered. And while it did pain me it would have been far more painful, I think, had I not cut it. Now I sit here waiting oh so patiently for signs of growth (amd 5 weeks PFC)... oh sigh oh sigh I only smile because I do fully believe and expect that my hair WILL grow eventually.
Oh and Chelev you look gorgeous!
Cheers,
Lilah

Just dropping by to say to Chele and JudyNaomi
Now just look how cute and adorable you girls are!
Here is me at 15 months PFC. Hair is still just as curly!
Hugs to everyone, Lori

Lori, you are looking fabulous!!! Thanks for your kind words.
bbd - I had shoulder length hair before chemo and had it cut after my first infusion. I think it is hard to lose your hair whatever the length beforehand, but at least if it is short it doesn't come out in huge clumps, which can be very upsetting. I found it one of the hardest things about having BC, but now I am over 4 months pfc and my hair is coming back - I never believed it would. I did have my wig styled on the day I had my hair cut, but in the end, I only wore headscarves.
I wish you all the best for your upcoming treatment - hang in there and come here to share or vent whenever you need to.
Hugs to all for a good evening, Judy xoxox

bbd- I had long hair(My entire life) and wore a ponytail most of the time. I went to pick out a wig and then went immediatly after for a dramatic haircut. I really liked my new style and hope I will get back to it once my hair starts to grow back. I can't imagine dealing with my long hair as it started to fall out after my 1st chemo tx. As it was, it seemed that hair was everywhere. I lasted about 5 days with the shedding and then had my DH give me a buzz cut out on the deck. It is a very emotional time but afterwards there is a relief and a feeling of OK thats over and done. And then you just start concentrating on getting through each chemo and staying healthy to keep everything on track. I am 2 weeks PFC and I do have the fuzzies growing on my scalp. So hang in there.........what ever way you get through it will work for you. good wishes your way as you start this journey. Stay strong.
Hello to every one else, too. I don't post very often but I read everyday! I love seeing your photos. Very encouraging.

Lori, that is adorable!!! I love how you can style it - and I can't wait to get to that stage - only 7 months to go!

Its just really hard to try to get it to look half way decent. Trying to grow long hair from scratch is harder than I thought it would be, and then to have to deal with the curls! I keep thinking people look at me, with my hair style (if you want to call it a "style") and they are thinking "WHAT WAS SHE THINKING!"
But thanks for the compliments girls. Chelev, you are looking really cute with short hair. I know you had a pic on here with your hair before chemo, you should post side by side. I'm thinking you look younger with the short. Would need to see your other one again tho.
For new gals, I have a hair journal picture on my profile.

Thanks for the pictures Lori. My last chemo was almost a year to the day after yours so I appreciate the preview of what my hair may be over the next few months. Your pictures are very helpful and I love your hair. My hair now looks very much like yours did last December. I'm thankful my hair is coming in but kind of upset with all of the gray in it given that I had very few gray hairs before my chemo. Kind of selfish and vain of me given that I have my life and at least the hair is growing back!
I love chelev's and Judy's hair and everyone elses who has shared pictures. Thanks for the encouragement.
Thanks to all who've posted on this topic, it's been very helpful.
Warm regards, Suzette

Lori...we need new pics...you haven't posted since July! I judge my growth by your pictures...please keep sending them!!
I had long hair prior to chemo. I got it cut short after my first TX. I hated the shorter style so wasn't as disappointed when it came out. When it started to fall out, I shaved it to about an inch. My scalp hurt so bad, then. After a few days, I clipped it to the scalp and the pain went away. I kept it shaved during chemo.
Hope this helps!
Chris

Suz, I started out (new growth) with more gray than what I have now. When it first started to grow, it was all gray. So give it some time, and you should get your natural color back. It may have a little more gray tho!!!
Chris, I'll try and get that done and update that photo (the one on my profile). Sorry, I had no idea others were using it as guide! I'm flattered!

Thanks Lori! I love looking at where you are and thinking "it won't be long and I will have that much hair too!"

Revricki- the pic i just changed to today is from last weekend 18 weeks since my last chemo. I went and got a little tiny trim around the ears and neck and my girl put a chocolate brown on it. I am naturally a dark blonde, but the color growing in right now was really mousy. So she felt going dark would really make it look thicker. It did the trick, just coloring the few grays i have aquired made it look so much better. I agree with Judy, once i stopped wearing hats and scarves a couple weeks ago it is growing faster. I notice a difference each week when I style it. i can actually move it aournd with gel, before it just was "there", no amount of goop would help.
Dont forget that my nurses told me that you cant really count the first 3 weeks after your last chemo in your count. That is time that the chemo is still killing any hair that is trying to grow. So it is not unusual to see actual stubble week 6 to 9. I am 18 weeks post chemo, but my hair growth is more like 15 weeks.
CHELEV- your hair looks great! you have bangs! that is what i am trying to be paitent about. I like having some hair around my face, which is silly since i almost always wore my long hair up in a ponytail!

Trish you look adorable and give me hope
My last chemo was Nov 9. Eyebrows and lashes still falling out (as far as I can tell). I actually think I've lost MORE eyebrows and lashes SINCE my last chemo. No new hair growth, just the stragglers that have been there all along. I am assuming the first NEW growth I see will be white fuzz -- no white fuzz yet. Sigh. I am so ready for hair. If I count18 weeks from my last chemo (in the hope of having as much hair as you do) that would mean: March 15 for me. Gosh. I will probably be having exchange surgery right about then (for my RMX, which I had last week). Well something to look forward to! I wore my wig into surgery last week, with the blue shower cap over it lol -- vanity thy name is woman!

Lilah! i know exactly how you feel! i was counting back in the summer (my last chemo was August 6th) and was realizing that i probably would not be able to show off any hair until Thanksgiving, and that was the day of my great unveiling! And now my hair is even noticably longer since that day a few short weeks ago! It is just slow to start, very slow in fact, i thought i would loose my mind! But once it gets past that military buzz length, it jsut really starts to bloom.
I just had to keep (and still do) telling myself that this is just a short blip on my radar screen of life! It is temporary, it only feels like forever!

Ok Chris, per your request, I updated my hair collage! It is on my profile. I don't know why it is stuck in the middle of a sentence, but I can't fix it. Just click on the link, it works. I have not been as consistent lately with my pictures. I am thinking of just doing them every 2-3 months now. I have had 4 teeny tiny trims!
Trish, you too.......are looking adorable.
Amazing what a little does, eh~!!!!!
Hugs to everyone and God Bless Us All
