Chelev - where did you get those extensions for $25??  Seems like the prices around here are much higher.   I will have to wait for the extensions because I do have completely bald patches so I guess they wouldn't be able to attach to the lid.  I stopped at the drug store today on the advice of my friend and invested in a couple of different lengths and styles of strip false lashes along with adhesive and blending mascara.  I will practice over the next couple of days and see if I can make them work - thanks Marie, I don't have anyone to help me with this!!  I only spent $30 on everything and I may just get what I pay for Kiss  Do you apply your other eye makeup before or after??

Hi MarieK...I was just wondering if you have to have some eyelashes for the fake ones to be attached to?  Also, with the strip ones, can you use them on the bottom lid?  I'm a little past 3 weeks Post Taxol, and my hair is light, colorless, peachfuzz all over my head, but my last 2 eyelashes, and 5 eyebrows have fallen out:(

    Best Wishes to you,

Pinkribbongirl - you need to have some eyelashes to attach the extensions to.  So far I have only had stuff attached to my top lid lashes - I have never heard of bottom eyelash fake or extensions.

Bobcat - eyelashes first and then your eye makeup after.

A friend of mine had lash extensions put on for $100. She told me that she could put mascara on them and use eye makeup remover to take it off and the eyelashes stayed on.

Mine were not like that - basically they went on and you didn't touch them until you needed to add more.  I think I paid around $65 for mine.

So when you are looking into lash extensions you should ask about caring for them afterwards before you have them put on.

MarieK,  I was going to have fake eyelashes put on before our Christmas party, but they were the kind that fall out with your own natural lashes, and I was afraid that they would make all of mine fall out, so I didn't do it...needeless to say, they all fell out anyway:)!!  We are going on vacation at the end of the month, and it would be nice to have some eyelashes at dinner...I'm wondering if I could just go to Sally's Beauty Supply and get some that sould get me by. Where did you get yours?

Hi all! I know this was posted a while ago, but if this helps anyone out there now, I will add my 2 cents. I finished my chemo in May of 2009. It is Feb. 2010, and my hair is about 2 and 1/2 inches long. It has come back thicker, very, very curly (pretty curls, not frizz) and much darker than it was. No gray, all dark brown, but I never had gray before. My hair was stick straight and blonde before. I like my new hair. Before that, I had three different wigs I wore, and then a lot of scarves. I was glad when my head was covered with hair so I could go without!

My hair all came back on my head, but all of my eyebrows did not. I have some, but my eyebrows used to be thick. Has anybody have this happen and if so, did your eyebrows eventually come back? I have been out of chemo for 9 months now.

Pink I'm sure you could get some strip lashes at the Sally Beauty - I picked up mine at the local drug store.  Ask them for tips on applying - the cosmetics girl told me to try them on first and then trim some off the FULL outer edge if needed.  Also to put them on like they are in the package - ie LEFT & RIGHT - and to put them away the same way.

I would get them well ahead of your trip and try them at home first!

Anna2 - I had dark curly hair before chemo maybe I will end up with your blonde straight hair! LOL!

Right now mine is coming in like this.  White and stick straight!

I'll be happy if I end up with Annie Lennox hair!!  Maybe I should start practicing drawing my eyebrows on like hers?

    Happy hair growing to all!

Thanks for the advice Marie, hope you don't get as much facial hair as the first picture haha!!!  How long has it been since your last chemo?  My hair is looking pretty white right now as well.  It's just sort of white peach fuzz all over my head...not sure if you can even call it hair yet!  My last chemo was Jan 14th.  I think by the looks of your picture, my hair was similar to yours.  I had to straighten mine to get it that way though!!  Right now I'm looking forward to being able to run my fingers through it again!!

Marie - OK that guy is adorable :)  I wish my hair was as thick as his!  LOL

Yeah that Annie Lenox look rocks.

Pinkribbongirl - I'm with you!  Looking forward to running my fingers through my hair again.  Curly or straight, I don't care!

Deen, It seems like it takes forever, I know how you feel. I have been growing my hair back since Oct. Well Waiting for it to grow.

It is now Feb. 9th, and I have a hair appt. on Thur. to get it colored and evened up. I can hardly stand it.

It came in almost black and I was a light light brown, it also is a little wavy and much thicker than I remember, It also is very soft.

Seems like it takes forever, but I know exactly what you mean about the squirming, I have been doing the same.

    Good Luck.

Just a quick post to give those starting out hope.  Take a look at my avatar.  This me one year after I lost my hair, pretty much to the week. I don't think anyone would guess I was pretty much bald a year ago.  I had 6 rounds of TC.  I never had an absolutely bald scalp but pretty near to it.  Just fuzz.  You too will get to the other side.  If you can have fun with the bald head.  There are so many choices each day- red hair, blond hair, pink hair, fake tattoos, fuzzy hats, turbans. Anything goes, including just embrasing the bald.  If you smile and walk tall you will look beautiful.  It is the attitude that makes a bald woman beautiful, not the shape of her head.

eta - I just had my hair colored and highlighted to get this look. It was quite gray a few days ago.  Before it fell out it was brown, with some highlights added and starting to show a few strands of gray, but certainly not to where anyone would say my hair color was gray.

Since my avatar may change in time and people may read through old threads... the photo I am referring to was posted in February 2010 showing a short but full head of brown hair with lots of highlights, that looks rather reddish.

LOL Ren re: dating the photo (as it surely will change).  It's too bad the system changes ALL the photos when you update.

You look FAB and indeed you are an inspiration.  My head is covered with very very very short, black hair... thin but evenly distributed (if a bit longer in the back).  I think it looks cool and am enjoying it mainly because I know it won't last forever (I sorta came to feel that way about the bald head too -- but I definitely like having hair better).  It's good see where you are now!

My hairdresser who had BC/chemo 5 years ago has absolutely gorgeous LONG black hair with a bit of a wave (not curly, NOT frizzy)... she also inspires me.  I can't imagine her bald (she just became my hairdresser last year.

Renrel - thanks for sharing.  Your hair looks terrific and one would never know you had lost your hair to chemo previously. Once I got over the trauma of the hair loss, I, too, have had fun with different wig choices. I have a really good human hair wig, styled like my old hair...but admit that I have purchased a bunch of different, fun and cheap wigs the past month or so.  One of my favorites is a Raquel Welch wig I got really cheap on eBay.

Yeah, I agree with Lilah--it's too bad that when you change your avatar, the system changes all your pics.  I can't tell you how many times I have gotten confused when a new pic pops up and suddenly I can't remember or figure out who's who anymore!

Beautiful hair and color, Renrel.  Can't wait to have that much hair again!

Hi everyone! Update - I am 14 weeks post FN chemo and I ditched the wig last week!! I did not expect to do it so soon but I simply could not take another moment of hats, scarves and my wig. Surprisingly people love it. I get so many compliments on my hair... it's crazy....and from strangers! It looks like an intentionally VERY short pixie. Felt so great to put away the wig...in the back of a drawer. Today I bought a few pairs of new earrings, necklaces and scarves to accessorize and make my look more feminine. I'm actually looking forward to the different stages and styles that my hair will grow into. For all of you waiting for the hair growth, it will come back and it will surprise you how fast it grows. Each week I notice a difference. I will post pics. Feel good everyone!

    MarieK,

You may get my straight blonde hair after all! I like variety so this dark curly hair is so different. I am enjoying it. You may enjoy the straight look. Everyone wanted to guess how my hair was going to come back. They all wanted to touch it. It amazing how much emphasis is put on hair, isn't it? Lots of luck!

My hair (3 months PFC) is coming back quite dark which is a surprise. In England I was a redhead, though in the US I was told it was strawberry blond. Admittedly it did get lighter over the years as more grey crept in. But the new hair is certainly different. Still only 1/2 inch long it looks quite thick and the more it comes in the darker it seems. But my eyelashes and eyebrows are so pale they barely exist!

I bought some Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and scalp therapy on ebay.  It's only a $35 investment, but I hope it helps.  I'm taking 5000 mcg of Biotin (Walgreens) daily, and I think it is helping my hair, and my nails are unbelievably strong and long!  I'm planning my first trim (I can't really call it a haircut) on Friday.  The hair around my ears is weird--curly and uneven.  I'll also have her trim up the back, where it is thick and curly.  I'm 6 months PFC and my hair is about 2" long (a wee bit shorter and thinner on top).  I've been without the wig for about a month now and the self-conscious feeling is getting better, but oh how I long to have hair that I can blow dry and style again!  Wash and wear is easy, but I need more hair to feel like myself again.

I bought mine on ebay.  There were plenty of sellers offering the Nioxin 2 as well.  Just type Nioxin 2 in the search line and you should get a lot of results (and it should be a lot cheaper than Penneys).

One thing I noticed--some sellers were offering 5.1 oz. bottles, and some were offering 10.1 oz bottles.  I kept searching and got a 10.1 oz bottle of shampoo, 10.1 bottle of conditioner, and 6.4 oz bottle of scalp therapy for the same price as the smaller bottles.  Look at the sellers' descriptions carefully before you bid.

enjoylife...just thought I'd pass along that I'm using Nioxin #2 as well.  I bought it at a store called Ulta Beauty Supply.  It was a 3 pack that had the shampoo, conditioner, and scalp treatment all in one kit.  I think it was around $35 or $40.  I'm 5 weeks out, and have about 1/2 inch of fuzz all over my head!!!  I think it's starting to get darker, my normal hair was very dark brown, almost black.  My oncologist told me to expect about 1/2 inch per month growth.  Seems like this will take forever!!  Happy hairgrowing to you:)

Just a quick update...9 weeks PFC and my head is covered with very dense hair.  The scalp is no longer visible at all...even if I try to find it. Been using the Nioxin scalp treatment and taking Prenatal vitamins since finishing chemo (my Onc told me that if anything will help the hair grow fuller and faster, it will be the Prenatal vitamins...so, taking those!)  I thought it would never happen!

I went and had the tiniest trim last weekend (to get rid of the chemo whispies) and I am hoping that in one more month, I will have enough to dye the tips a nice blonde and go coverless. For now, I still don the cover, as my ears have no covering yet! I am going to try for the short style that Ellen Degeneres was sporting on Idol this week :)  I thought it was pretty cute: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/02/10/article-1249901-0838DFD9000005DC-893_468x457.jpg

saniaisa, you go girl.  I am 7 weeks PFC and I don't think I will  have  that much hair in 2 weeks.  It is covering my head, but not long enough to cover  my scalp.  I am taking a good daily vitamin, but I may switch to Prenatal just to see if it will help.

I think  I will go by Ulta tomorrow and pick up some of the Nioxin and  see  if  it helps.  I am soo ready to get my hair back, just like everyone else.
