You did it!! Your hair looks great but it does take a while - be patient. Hugs.

Thanks bobcat, now if I can figure out how to make these huge pictures smaller, LOL!

I am 1+ year past TCH. My first hair was like a baby chicken and snow white I shaved it off. Now (post chemo) it is without gray, thicker and just past my ears on sides. The back flips
I did not get my eye lashes and brows until a few months ago. No nose hair yet... I love not shaving my legs or pits hardly ever. I think we are all different. My friends hair is way longer than mine. Either way it grows back, I promise!

Hi Juannelle...I should have mentioned that my Onc told me that one of the bonuses to the Prenatal vitamins is the Zinc. He said that this is clinically found to be beneficial. I asked about the Biotin...he said I could take it, but didn't believe it was helpful. Who knows. I have the Biotin (5000K dosage) too...but for now, am only taking the Prenatals as I am undergoing Rads. The Nioxin is a little stinky, and I don't know if it actually helps the hair follicles, but it certainly makes the hair have a thicker texture (until you wash it out!). LOL
I should clarify, my hair is only about 1/2 long...not that long. I am just happy that it is dense and my scalp is finally filled in with hair. It's gonna be a slow go...but, at least its going!!! So fun to put shampoo in it and actually have it foam up again...forgot what that was like. Someday, I hope to feel the little guys move with the wind...then it will be reality!
Have a great weekend...hugs

Sansia I am so glad you mentioned prenatal vit. when I was pregnet with with my kids way back when baby is 19 now you had to have a prcrip for prenatal vit. and my hair was the best with them so I am headed to walmarts tomrrow to buy some I have taken biotin and I dont think its helped iwth hair probaly made me full of energy a little more but I have used Nioxin and now I have been told not to wash the hair every day its too new and tender so some days I just wet it down. I also feell like some of us take a very long time I am also on for my Lymphedmia something BC gave me I use Spriotoen or something like that its a water pill I take 200 mg a day and it helps with hair loose and I have to take it anyway for my arm so its doing 2 things for me I can still see my scalp after 18 months but I have HOPE that is all we have now if anyone has trouble with eyebrows do I have a solution its great stuff too

enjoyful, does Lasix help with hair growth? I am taking in for fluid retention, but not for Lymphedema. I have ordered the biotin, but haven't received it yet. I will not start it until after rads which will be in 3 weeks. I am so ready to get through this and get own with life.
saniasa, is your hair still the soft stuff that comes in first? How long before hair with texture will come in? I have thought about shaving it off, but am not sure if that is what I want to do. It doesn't feel anything like my hair before chemo. It is so hard to know exactly what to do. What is good for one, may not be good for another. Know what I mean?

No its not Lasix its like Sprinot something I dont have the bottle with me right now but you dont have to take any potiusm with it as it doesnt get rid of your potisium at all and its the only one for hair growth but I ahve been done for a long time with chemo and rad but not to burst your bubble I dont think the biotin did much for me I thinnk the water pills and time and also Rogain twice a day helped plus I am going to start prenatal vit. I also get it trimmed every 5 weeks too and its helped allot but after 18 months I can still see scalp ..

Maura, I wish you luck on growing your hair. I certainly know what it is like to be bald, but I can't imagine being without hair for 18 months or very thin hair. I guess in the end, as for me, if it grows, then I really wont know if anything helped or not. If it doesn't grown, then I will have to try something else. It is sort of like bc recurrence, you don't know what bucket you are in until much later.
Hope you have a great weekend.

Just jumping in to say that I'm a little more than 1 month PFC and woke up this morning to see that my lower lashes on both eyes are gone, gone, gone. Is this the start of the dreaded loss of all eyelashes and eyebrows that I thought I'd avoided? I'm trying to be lighthearted about this, but ....
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

The hair on my head is not the problem...(last chemo was end of July) .it has grown back nicely and I have even had it cut once because I decided I liked not having to comb my hair, but now it is not as soft as it was....I loved that soft hair, just like a baby's. The problem I am having is my eyelashes....I had some more eye lashes plucked out at the opthalmologist's on Wed.(had some previously removed on both eyes Jan 11) and the way they feel scratchy and itchy now, I am afraid there are more that need to come out. He says they are growing back with a vengeance....the problem is they grow down and some of them then turn back in toward the eye and they scratch my cornea. When I close my eyes it is sometimes difficult to open them because I think these downward growing lashes sort of catch on my lower lashes. I asked Is this a normal SE and he told me No....said the clogged tear ducts he sees a lot of, but not this. Figures.
Lottie, They sometimes don't come out until after chemo is finished....usually the eyebrows are the last to go. BUT they do grow back. Is anyone else having the problem with their lashes growing toward the eye?
0 -
Lottie -- Yes, as Marybe said, the eyebrows and lashes sometimes don't fall out until after chemo is done. Mine were like that.
Everyone's experience is different, but mine have still not come in as heavy as they were before. I don't bother with mascara because my lashes are so short they look funny covered in black makeup, so I just use some smudgie black eyeliner. Maybe someday...
(What few I have, have grown out straight.)

My lashes are growing down (I think someone previously referred to them as camel lashes) but they don't seem to be grwoing into my eyes. What a nuisance that must be! I do notice, though, that my lashes are not slick and straight like lashes are normally. Instead, they look really dried out and crinkly, almost like a "crimping iron" look to them. Anyone else have crinkly eyelashes?
0 -
I have short stubby eyelashes, but not crinkly.
My head hair is coming along. I ALMOST felt like combing it this morning but decided that was a bit premature. Though I did actually use shampoo in the shower for the first time rather than a quick wipe over with the body wash. I also noticed it took a bit of vigorous rubbing with the towel to get it dry rather than one quick swipe. So it is definitely getting better. Hair in left armpit (non cancer side) has just started to grow. Nothing on the right. As this was radiated does that mean it won't grow there?
And I shaved the sides of my cheeks this morning! Aggghh!!! I was tired of that soft fuzz so many of us have had. Definitely looks better.
(last chemo end of October)

Ooooh Gillyone, I have that same face fuzz and am soooooo afraid that if I shave it off, it will come back in darker and thicker! Please keep us posted as to what happens since you got brave enough (or perhaps annoyed enough is a better word) to shave it off!
0 -
Yeah weety, I had to gulp before I did it. I might be brave, but probably stupid. Oh well! I will post with any developments. I did try something else first though which might be equally stupid. I found some foot cream in the bathroom that is supposed to get rid of rough skin. It has "bits" in it from peach pits surprisingly so I thought if I rubbed that on it might rub off the fuzz. But it didn't.

I shaved my facial hair and it did not come back - thought I might start some sort of weird 5 o'clock shadow, but I didn't!
I think the lady who did the eyelash extensions did them for me for so cheap because I am an old client and she felt bad for me. I still have most of them on, but some have come off (I am an eye rubber too and it is so HARD not touching my eyes!!!). I hope they stop falling out en mass and just fall out here and there soon.
One year cancerversary tomorrow - and at least I've been told that I don't look like I was chemo girl anymore - I had my hair washed and blown dry and styled today, just for the hell of it, and the stylist couldn't believe how thick it was (and how curly - we all had a good laugh as it looked more and more like Little Orphan annie, until she flatironed and spiked it out). With the kinky-curly hair at the bottom actually straight, it touches my collar. Yay!!! 10 months PFC.

Here is a pic of me at 31 weeks PFC. Thats roughly 7 months. I have cut the tip ends off every 5 weeks since the end of chemo and have colored it 3 times. I used Nioxin shampoo the first 3 months after and take biotin everyday. My hair got thicker before it got longer in the beginning. It is exactly the same color, texture and straightness as it was before. I think my hair would be a little longer than this if I was not still on Herceptin. But I only have one treatment left, so hopefully it will grow faster afterward.
My advice is to just be patient...I used to have long hair before the chemo, and I am waiting patiently for it to grow back out long again.

ccbaby - your hair looks terrific. I don't know what your hair looked like long before but it looks so good in the shorter style...maybe think about keeping it like that!! I really like the way the top is styled.

Look how beautiful you are, Christy!

By the way, Juannelle, I was way back reading your early Feb posting about your 5-year-old grandson and what he said about your being "bolt" -- My 6-year-old grandson is very much like yours. He said, "Nana, will the medicine that makes you bald kill the bad cells?" "Yes, Isaac." Then "I don't care if it makes you balc. We don't want you to have the bad cells anymore. At least you will stll have your arms and legs. You can still hug me, you just will have a shiny head. That's all."

I also get my hair trimed and one of my BF saw my hiar today she couldnt get over how much its grown thicker I dont care if it takes for ever to grow longer I jsut want the thickness also went to Walmarts and got the prenatal vit. its good for hair growth like the bioten so lets keep filling in fill it up on the top is my thought...

ezscriiibe, are grandchildren wonderful? Hair is nothing to them, but arms and legs are important and they are so right.
Christy, your hair looks great. We all can only hope ours looks as good as yours in 7 months PFC.
gillyone, I noticed today that I have lots of hair on my cheeks also. I didn't notice it yesterday, did it just grow overnight, probably not, but I guess I wasn't expecting it. I did notice that I have short hair over my lip, hope I don't have to start shaving that.
My eyebrows are finally beginning to fall completely out. They have hung in there through it all and now they decide to take an exit. Eye lashes still good, but that probably wont last long either.
My hair on my head is getting thicker and thicker, but I can't say it will be good hair, but at least it will be hair.
Happy Valentines day to everyone.

Christy, I love your hair. My hair didn't start growing until after rads, and it's been 14 months, and my hair still doesn't look that good....Sure wish I had tried the Biotin, and the Nioxin sooner. Ladies, I jumped in here recently, and don't know about the Nioxin shampoo deal. What's the info. on this? Is it too late for me? I still have to keep my hair short with a trim every 5 wks. or I'd have a mullet. My hair is thin on top and would be all party in the back!!!

Thanks so much everyone!!
Maura...Mine came in dark too and I just put some highlights on top of the color last week.
Leggy...it is not too late for the Nioxin, keep using it.

I just finished chemotherapy February 2nd.
My hair started to grow back a bit in a fuzz before the 3rd treatment only because my Oncologist had me on steroids as of the 2nd treatment. I still only have fuzz showing on the top of my head, although it becomes a bit more noticeable everyday.
I went to my hairdresser just to show her what it looks like. Before chemo I use to dye my hair as it was salt/pepper - I lost my natural color years ago at a young age. Now my hair color is coming back white. My hair dresser says that my hair texture is coming back 'pointed' and pointed slightly upwards hmmm - as she put it and she says that I should shave off my hair.. (I shaved off my hair before my second chemo treat treatment). Did anybody else's hair start growing back pointed?
I told my hairdresser that I want to see if my hair can grow more of a normal length and not so much pointed before I decide to shave it off.. hmm
