Charmaine-  My last chemo was Dec. 1 so I have about 1/2" of growth.  The sides are fine growing down but the top is odd.  The top left is growing out sideways toward the right and about 3/4 of the way across it meets with the top right side and which creates a peak or short mohawk!  If that is the definition of "pointed" then you are not the only one.

    Growing back "pointed'?!

I don't even know what that means! LOL!

Congrats on your final treatmen, Charmaine!

CC Baby -- your hair looks FAB -- I can't wait to have that much hair again :)

Re: facial hair -- I had noticed some peach fuzz that I hadn't remembered ever having ... but now it seems to be gone (so I guess it fell out?)

Re: eyelashes falling out one month PFC -- also that was what happened to me as well (and I too was feeling like "whew dodged that bullet"!)  -- final chemo was Nov 9... by Thanksgiving eyebrows and lashes were started to drop and by xmas I had none but by New Year's all were growing back; now both are back to normal (and then some).  Hang in there.

Christy,   I really like your hair. I think hair length is a very individual preference. I had super long hair at one time, but that was many moons ago and I would look ridiculous with long hair at this stage of the game unless I wore it in a twist or something.  I started wearing my hair short a long time ago and also liked the asymetical cuts, but have discovered because of chemo, that I really like my hair super short and actually get more compliments on it this way than I had with any of my other hairstyles for the last decade. I don't think anyone really appreciated their hair until it is gone like so many things.  Now if I wake up and my hair is sticking straight up, I don't think of it as a bad hair day, but think I am so lucky to have hair.

How many of your got curls?  Everyone told me mine would come back curly and it did not...maybe a few waves in the back, but not what I would call curly.

Re the facial hair....I had that fuzz on the sides of my cheeks, it was sort of like fur and I was actually able to pull it off and it did not come back.  The onco at MDA told me you should not be afraid to shave facial hair...that everyone thinks it will come back darker and thicker, but that is a falacy and poeple think that because of men and their beards.  He said this is based on young men who are going through puberty....at first it is just fuzz and being anxious to shave they do and it seems to come back thicker and coarser every time and it does, but because they are maturing, not because they shaved.

    Hi, all!

Please tell me if this happened to any of you.  I finished chemo mid January.  The sides and back of my head are growing back thick, but the top is sparce.  Yikes!  I look bad enough!  Am I going to need a wig forever, too?

I had areas that looked like bald spots for awhile on the top when it first started growing back and it seemed like it took a long time for the crown area to fill in, but eventually it will all even out.

jteach, I'm the opposite.  My top is growing faster than the sides, so I've got the mohawk look going.

Does head hair grow like brows and lashes (in stages)?  Just curious.  Maybe that's why some see variations.  For me, I have hair pretty evenly placed (slightly thicker at back of my head)... but when I look closely at my scalp (front view) it seems to me I can see lots of dots where, I assume, there are hair follicles or hairs coming in (but no hair yet)... which gives me hope that there is a thicker head of hair in my future :)  It does seem to be getting scruffy around my ears (but hell if I'm cutting ANY of it at this point).

Yes, it grows in stages. Here's a good link, which gives a good overview of the different stages of hair growth:

Charmaine its up to you but I would never shave it off again as long as its taken me to grow my to any kind of lenght I keep getting it trimmed off every 5 weeks it will eventually shape up. I did shave mine on my 2nd treatment also and that was 18 months ago so hang in there and jsut trim it every few weeks.

Maura my hair still isnt back yet but its growing I think more than it had been.

Bucannersdj - you are looking good! Hang in there, it takes time, but it does come. Today, I am almost 7 months pfc. I had a second cut today and had highlights put in. It is still v short, but at least I feel a little normal.

CCBaby - You look gorgeous!!! You look just wonderful!!!

I had 4 does A-C and 4 Taxol and around 1 month pfc, my lashes and brows came out, but they grew back in very quickly.

It all really sucks I know. And I don't think that things ever go back to how they were, but they do get better.

Hugs to all for a good week ahead, Judy xxx

Well the very top of my hair is literally growing upwards..

Since your hair is growing forming sort of a mohawk.. you gonna wait until you hair grows to a reasonable length until you decide what to do with it or have you thought of shaving it off and see if it would grow back normally?

Thank you all, you are too kind. I know that losing our hair is devastating for everyone, but I think it was a little more for me, since I am a hairstylist. I worked through all of my chemo and radiation treatments. I had to deal with client's hair and hear all of their complaints of them wanting their hair  thicker, thinner,  curlier, straighter, longer, shorter, a different color and etc. I just wanted to say to them, at least you have hair, and you don't know how lucky you are!! But of course I didn't. A lot of my clients are telling me to keep my hair short, but I personally liked it better longer, and I really can't wait for my bangs to grow down to eyebrows! I have another word of advice....take a pic of yourself every week or every month and you will be surprised at how much more hair you have!

    Sugar....thanks for the hair link!

ccbaby- I think your hair looks great.  I love the style.  I am 11 weeks PFC and have some funky hair growth going on. Fuzzy on top and short on the sides. I look forward to the day when my hair looks like yours!

Charmaine, congradulations on your last treatment!  I am 6 months PFC and just got my first hair "cut", although my own daughter couldn't tell I had anything done, but I could, gave it some shape and got rid of some frizz. I did actually shave my head again after the last treatment, I had a mohawk, or shark fin, look on top, about 1" blonde standing straight up, and "fuzz" on the side, looked more  like duck down than hair, and it was falling out again at the same time, so I just decided to shave it so it would all be growing at the same time, but mostly because of the hair falling out.

ccbaby, your hair is beautiful, I'm looking forward to the bangs day myself, even though I've never been one for bangs, too many cowlicks lol.  I'm sure it is difficult being a hair dresser and dealing with so many people who are unhappy with their hair, when you didn't have any.

It does grow, but seems slowly, and I had straight blonde hair before, and now it's curly and, well salt and pepper, never had hair this dark. Everyone tells me it looks good, but to me it's like looking at a stranger in the mirror. I want to do something to the color, but decided to wait until it grows a bit more.  My eyebrows and lashes came back blonde, although they have fallen out and growing back for the second time, have like 3 long lashes on my left eye and the rest are really short, everytime I try to put on mascara I wonder why I am doing that.

I read on here a lot, but don't post usually because I have a hard time remembering who said what, but enjoy reading and am inspired by all the strong women on this site, and appreciate the helpful hints.

I am 3 1/2 months Post Chemo and got my first (clean-up)  today!  I say that because it's not long enough to call a hair cut...  My hair has grown back straight and salt and peppa color.  I am 43 years old and debating on whether to color it again or keep it natural?

I think I am going to shave my face today and pray it doesn't grow back thicker!!!

CC Baby-- Your hair does look amazing and ladies it even looks more amazing in person!!!  Believe it or not-- CC Baby and I had an appointment with our Oncologist on the same day and I noticed her by her pic on these threads and introduced myself!!  Small World!

ccbaby - your hair looks great!!!

I'm catching up after being off boards for a few days, but I saw where some of y'all mentioned facial hair.  I had quite a bit of facial hair show up while I was on Taxol in November and shaved it off!!  good news, the hair did not return.

My eybrows and lashes are growing like crazy - I had my eyebrows professionally shaped 1 1/2 weeks ago and I think I'm going to go back this weekend again!! My eyelashes are growing fast, but like others said in a more outward way than before, but not too bad.  My hair is getting much thicker, looks like it may try to curl, but still very very short.

Mine started growing back within a few weeks.  What's fun is every month you will have a new hairdo.  I am 1 1/2 years from Chemo and I love my hair.  I let the gray come back and it has white highlights.  People think I am highlighting my hair with white.  I would never have cut my hair as short as it is now.  I love it.......keeping it short and sassy.

I can see more hair every day.  It looks like my head is covered, with the top shorter than the sides.  I am also noticing some color in the back.

I am also losing my brows and lashes.  They have stayed in all this time and now  that I am 8 weeks PFC, they are just going away.  I am very light skinned and my lashes and brows are light also, so I am not sure anyone but  me will even notice.  But that doesn't mean I want them gone.

Hope all is going well for  everyone.

Juannelle - that's encouraging that your head is covered.  That's wonderful as it seems like it's started coming in rather quickly. Did the eyelash loss just start all of a sudden?  Mine are thinning, particularly on the bottom so I don't know what to expect. The top ones are still pretty full but thinner than usual.

It doesn't seem right what's going on with my eyebrows. They are thinning in the part that I want them to stay and are still growing in below meaning I still have to tweeze.  This is just not right! I'm also anxiously waiting for the day when I won't have to shave my legs. lol

I lucked out the other day. I found the Nioxin 2, three-piece kit at the Canadian version of TJ Maxx for $30.00 CDN for the large size bottles.  I thought I'd give it a try since I've read posts on here about it.

Sherri, it as all of a sudden.  My brows are almost gone completely, but there is  very fine and light hair coming in, so maybe they wont be gone long.  My lashes are falling out fast.  All of a sudden about half of the top lashes are gone.  Today I didn't try to wear mascara, because I thought it would  look  strange.  I think the rest will be gone in the next day or two.  I just hope they come back fast and that they don't come in then fall out again.

I am going to go by a store and see if I can find some Nioxin tomorrow while I am out.  We will just give it a whirl and see if it helps.

one-L --- I also didn't loose brows or lashes until Chemo was completed!  I lost all of them probably 2-3 weeks after my last treatment of TAC-- HOWEVER the good news is that they grow back rather quickly!!!

Hi ladies - Once the brows and lashes are out, you are that much closer to having them back for good.  The brows will grow quickly.  Lashes my take a little longer.  Top of the head took a while for me.  Had a rather wide "part."  I take biotin, and it seems to help.

Sorry I do not agree everything doesnt grow back there are some of us who used Taxotore and havent got our hair all back and for sure its not thick I dont care if my hair ever grows long I just want my thickness back my hari and others are thin and limp and I use Rogaine and Biotein a water pill Spior something 200 mg and vit D and prenatal vitiams massage and now warm on my head its still so slow 18 months I do have eye lashes and very few eye brows so its not a for sure thing that it does come back and quickly so if its not your not alone. I use a eyebrow stick from QVC that is so great not like pencil very real looking but NO not everyones hair comes back like before I dont know why I got picked but I am not married and its a lonely path for sure and women are the worst critics I work and have had allot of comments like why are you wearing a cap lets see your hair how rude... ok my vent is over \
