Thanks Sugar77 - but how do you know which one you should use? I guess I could contact the retailer here in Oz and ask.
Are you happy with it?

Sue - it was on this thread that I first heard about Nioxin 2. I'm happy with it so far. It's hard to tell because I'm just 7 weeks out from chemo and I can still see my scalp at the crown but it does seem to be coming in. Good luck!

Hi ladies,
Thanks for all the really nice compliments re my hair!
For those ladies enquiring re hair colours post chemo - I went to my hairdresser for a colour on Wed - she said because it was so short, that she would go for something really 'funky'.....so she put in a permanent bright red! (I was auburn/light brown pre chemo) I thought it was WAY too bright so went to a different hairdresser and she put in a semi-permanent brownish colour to tone it down...its finally looking decent. So no adverse effects with getting a permanent and a semi-permanent colour in one day only 13 weeks post chemo!
Went back to work yesterday (after a 6 month break!) - got lots of compliments re hair colour and length!

I ended up ordering Nioxin system 6 starter kit because I have coarse hair. Also ordered the follicle booster. System 2 was for fine hair and I sure never had fine hair. I remember in high school in our physics class we were learning about micrometers and they measured the thickness of my hair. I had the most coarse hair out of everyone.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Treadsoftly: glad to hear the hair color worked out well. What brand of haircolor did they use? Just wondering if some products work better than others on post-chemo hair.

love this pic, it's exactly where I'm at right now, except 3 out of rad, it is giving me the courage to give up the scarves, I am throwing my hubby a 30th b-day party in 2 weeks and I think that will be the day. Thanks for the courage:)

I am really glad that I gave up the wigs and scarves this week. I have had very positive feedback from everyone. Some express how proud they were that I felt comfortable enough to go short in front of them. You can practically see my hair growing, like weeds in the spring. I am 14 weeks PFC and proud to be alive and have hair.
I am also using the Nixon, I don't know if it is really helping or not, but I will use it until it is gone.
Ladies, have a wonderful weekend ang enjoy some egg hunting

Juanelle: I'm proud of you that you were able to give up the wigs and scarves so soon. I don't feel brave enough yet but all it might take is another warm day with my scalp itching under the wig, to finally forgo it. You must be so happy to have chemo, rads, wig and scarves all behind you!
Nicole: here's to new beginnings the day of the birrthday party.
I think Easter and Springtime will have an extra significance for all of us this year. Today I bought some pansies to put in planters. The little flowers look so cheerful.

MaryNY - Sorry, I dont know what brand they used, all I know is that it was the usual colour and what they use on everyone in the salon. Happy to report no adverse effects whatsoever. The rads technicians didnt recognise me when I went in for #22/33 on Thurs!
Happy easter everyone, heres hoping for some rapid hair growing!

Hello Ladies!
I've been reading your posts and following along with your growth and stories of going "topless". I'm not ready yet to go "topless" in public but no longer wear a head covering at home or when guests come over. So I'm getting there I guess...
Here is my update:
I am now 10 1/2 weeks PFC and I'm happy to say that I have full coverage! The colour is salt and pepper and I'm going to leave it that way.
The length doesn't seem to be changing any but like I said full coverage so you can't see my scalp anywhere.
Right now it's at the stage where it is lying flat on top and growing down my neck. I think I'll have to get it tidied up soon.
Hair in other places is coming along nicely as well - full eyebrows and eyelashes. This morning I felt my eyelashes scratch on my pillow! Weird growth in the "nether regions" but I won't get into that - TMI!
Have a great holiday weekend and happy hair growing to you all!
Hugs,
Marie

Hello everyone!
I am 18 weeks PFC and I had my one inch long hair colored yesterday. It is a very light shade of blond now and I love it. I was blond pre-chemo and I feel like an old part of myself came back. I feel normal again!
I came out of the hairdresser not wearing my headscarf and haven't worn it since. It is very liberating.

Sure do enjoy all of your comments and suggestions. Reading this gave me the courage to color my hair this week. Pre-chemo I was a bottle brunette due to early gray hair (at 52 I'm still not ready to be gray), so the post-chemo hair is not the color I care to be seen wearing! There's about an inch plus of hair growth and have been leary about how soon to color so that I don't damage what hair I have. Used Clairol Natural Instinct since it is a semi temp and not as harsh as the totally permanent. Using medium brown, it came out light brown because the gray is so hard to color but I LOVE IT! No more gray!!! I just might go without the wig once or twice this week.

Juli - that's very encouraging that you were able to colour your own hair and it worked!
Marion - Your new "do" sounds fabulous! I'd love to see a photo!
I've heard it mentioned before but I'll say it again "I sure do miss bangs". I never realized what a big forehead I have until now. My hair is just sweeping the top of it - I comb it to the side rather than go for the "Julius Caesar" comb forward look.

Maron, good for you. I know you felt better after the color and then going out without the head cover - priceless.
Juli, glad you didn't have an episode with your hair color. I think I am just going to leave mine salt and pepper, I am 60 and was a natural red head, but am not willing to go down that road again.
Marie, sounds like you well on your way on all your hair growth. When you finally decide to go topless out side your home, I think you will be surprised. You just have to remember, that people are use to seeing all sorts of different hair styles and colors of hair these days and so you have really short hair, it is no big deal. Some people take a second look, but no bad reactions yet.
MaryNY, I am so glad to be through will all of it. Now it is just my Arimidex and checkups. I can handle all of that. I have been on the Arimidex for about 2 weeks and haven't noticed any SEs yet. Only time will tell.
treadsoftly, also glad you still havent' had any adverse effects with your hair color. Happy Easter to you.
Have a great day everyone.

Thank you Juannelle for your words of encouragement.
My hair is really short and I have seen short styles like this before that were intentional. So that is not what is holding me back.
What makes it harder for me to go topless is when I do wear my wig (the one in my profile pic) I still get beautiful compliments from strangers and people who haven't seen me in a while and don't know I have BC.
Just yesterday while picking up Easter treats for the kids I got the nicest compliment on my "hair" (aka wig).
It's totally different from my hair pre-chemo, totally different from my hair as it's growing in now but it really suits me and it's making it that much harder to give it up!

Marie -- I know how you feel! I love my wig (like yours it has bangs and the hair is nice and straight and healthy -- nothing like my old, frizzy/curly hair)! I've decided to wait until I'm comfortable with the length of my returning hair... which will be a while still. At the moment I've got the Julius Ceasar look (LOL at that description, by the way, which is perfect). It's a nice color -- dark (my original color I think but I was coloring it lighter the last few years before BC so who remembers?) -- and straight (woo hoo) so far.

Anyone know how long your hair has to be before you can do extensions? Just finished chemo 3/23 so I know I have a long while yet to go, but I am already looking ahead!

I went for a consult on extensions and the guy said hair has to be at least chin length or longer before extensions can be considered. If you hear that it can be done with shorter hair, I'd love to know

Just took this picture right now with my webcam on top of my monitor. It does not show really much of my hair. I will probably have to get my husband to take more pictures of my hair as to how it is growing. I went to my hairstylist today and told her that I did not like how my hair was growing back. My hair has dark roots coming in under some white fuzz on top and at the back and on the sides it is salt and pepper. She told me this will all eventually blend in, hopefully within a month she said. She told me to allow for the hair all around to grow about 1 1/2 inches and then to come back to her and she will give it a trim. She feels that it will all eventually come back dark salt/pepper. Guess we shall see. It is rather very short though for just over 8 weeks post chemo.
Charmaine
PS my eyebrows are coming back too and in fact there is small bits of eye brow hair right along the eye brow bone. So I followed it and put on eye brow pencil, this is first time I have done this and am so proud of myself, did not feel I could do this with the eye brow pencil. It looks uneven from one side to the other, but that is just the way my eye brows or eyebrow bone is hmmm. Guess nobody has perfect eyebrow bone development. I put on some eye liner and lipstick too from what I got from the Look Good Feel Better Workshop. I feel good with this bit of make up on and was in fact excited doing this I should get into doing this daily.

Charmaine - you look great! How is your hair coming in on the crown? I'm 8 weeks post chemo, too, this week and mine is coming in slower on top than at the back and the sides.

Ladies you all give me hope. i have only had one of my 4 rounds so far and the hair thing is kinda scary. I know that it is temporary and doable...So thank you for sharing and letting those of us who are just starting know that there is light on the other side.
THANKS!!!!

Sherri - my hair is thinner coming in at the crown and at the back of my head. Seems to be coming in more at the top and at the sides..

Charmaine - for 8 weeks PFC you are doing fine. I am 5 months PFC and still only have an inch of length but is reasonably thick. Everyone's grows ar different rates. At 8 weeks I had nothing much to mention!!

Rogaine anyone? I have read a couple of different post somewhere and someone said that Rogaine kept her eyebrows in. Can you use it while on chemo?

Good luck with everything Dublin4.

mariek, I certainly understand what you mean. I also like the way your wigs looks and you are so young. You have to do this on your own time line and when you feel your are ready, then it will be time.
Charmaine, you look beautiful. Once it starts filling in, then it will seem to get thicker every day. I am 15 weeks PFC and am really happy with my hair growth. I have always had very thick hair and it is coming back in just as thick. It seems to be softer, but time will tell if it stays that way. Good luck to you.

Forgive me if my question has been answered already. Here goes: How long does your hair need to be to be colored?
