Noda it's great isn't it? It's given me so much more confidence. Short curly hair for me wasn't a good look.

Marie and MJB, you both look fab! MJB, I would not have recognized you, if it hadn't been for your name. I like your hair darker.
Nodapearl, if you know how to send pictures in email, I would be glad to post for you. I have done it before for others. Send to lorri@mrdrip.com Same goes for anyone else! I keep up with this thread, I just don't post much.

Deen:
Lots of good nutrition things you can do to help hair grow ASAP. Try taking Evening Primrose Oil, Three large caps three times daily. Also, Lysine, Arginine, and COQ10 works in conjunction. I also take Fish Oil and Sea Vegetable tablets from Wachters. You can also treat your head with a thick gel called Polysorbate 80. It is sticky but will help the scalp during and after chemo.

just adding my note i had 4 neulasta shots and had NO SIDE EFFECTS at all not everyone does hope it goes well for all of you i am now 19 months cancer free and 20 months post chemo, i also did not keep the chemo curls very long and my hair is pretty much back to what it was fine and straight and full i loved the thick chemo curl but mine was never frizzy. new hair is quite an adventure and everyones is different but who cares as long as it is hair. happy hair!!!!

sharon: That's great that you didn't have the side effects of the Neulasta shots. You are right, everyone is different, experiences meds in different ways. My hair was also not frizzy, it was absolutely gorgeous, and so soft to the touch. Loved the very curliness, was sorry to lose it, but make up for it now with a perm, keeps the hair fuller, as Tamoxifen-now-Aromasin makes my hair thinner. I always stress that I use lots of conditioner, then leave-in conditioner and never EVER comb it, even with a wide-tooth comb. It doesn't tangle, and I lose a little, not much now. Again, everyone is different on what they experience with the hair loss/regrowth, but yep, it's HAIR, happy hair!!! (tho, to be honest, I really DID enjoy being bald...no...shaving.....any...WHERE!)

gingersfavorite: Great picture!
Googsmn: Heres hoping your hair grows fast!
Carrol2: I was told getting the shots in the belly where there is more fat (at least on me LOL) lessons the side effects if you do have them.
Jules & nodapearl: Would love to see pictures!!!
goldie: This is how I usually look, I had to try blonde. I figured when else will I have complete virgin hair again LOL! My hair isn't as gray as it was right after chemo. Pretty much back to mostly black with a bit of salt. It is still a frizzball though, unless I use tons of product and a flat iron. Can't wait until it's long enough to do the blow out!!

I am 8 weeks PFC, and I have fairly even growth all over, no curls so far. My hair is about 3/4 inch, and my scalp is almost completely covered. The colour is also fairly even, but with more grey than I remember, sigh. I am hoping to ditch the wig in a couple of weeks. I will be going on a holiday at the end of the month and I really don't want to deal with the wig when flying or on the beach. I have been going out "topless" when running errands, so I am slowly building up my confidence to be out in public without covering up.
Just a word about taking supplements, as sunnybottoms suggested. At my teaching session when I picked up my Tamoxifen, I was given a list of things to avoid. Lots of supplements either contain hormones, or contribute to hormone production. Unfortunately, evening primrose oil is one of them. If your cancer was hormone positive, or if you are on Tamox, you might want to discuss it with your dr., pharmacist or a dietician before you start taking them.

I am 10 weeks PFC and have about an inch of hair all over. Just as thick as it's always been but my hair has been curly my whole life and is now coming in straight. When do the chemo curls start?

Jennifer: Actually my hair DID start to grow in VERY straight, and it turned curly, not really sure when, but I think 5 months or so after chemo ended? (It also came in GRAY, which I colored as soon as it got long enough) ~juli

Thanks, Juli! Mine is coming in a mix of brown and red (my natural haircolor) with about the same amount of gray as I had before (which is why I color it). I have always complained about it being hard to work with thick, curly hair (which I will NEVER complain about again, I'll just be thankful to have hair), but I have NO idea how to work with thick, STRAIGHT hair!!!0

Toughmom38- I had naturally curly hair before chemo. It was 16 inches long and nice ringlets. One year after my last chemo treatment I have thin, straight hair. I too wonder when the and if the curls will come back.

Jennifer: Seeing I had thick, straight hair (but actually not just before being dx'd, my hair texture had changed I'm thinking due to the cancer? It got straw-like)before cancer...I loved it being blow-dried upside down brushing it out. Then a cool blast and quick brushover. No products in it. It's nice that yours is thick!
veggy: Yeah, I was losing the curls, and I loved them SO much...why I opted for the perm now. I prefer the curliness, and since it was thinning anyway, I don't have to comb it this way (mega-conditioning though). I don't think the curls come back, sadly ~juli

I had a perm once and I looked like a French poodle. Never again! I'll keep it short. Its too thin to let grow long.

LOL veggy...my 'old' perms did the same thing, I never liked them. My hairdresser talked me into this perm due to the thinning, it really looked awful after the nice soft after-chemo curls went straighter. Now it's thicker, long (yes, I do like long hair, even with the stupid hot flashes and sweaty-back-of-the-neck, ugh!) and curly. To each their own, though, of course! ~juli

I love long hair too. Mine is just baby fine. Just another thing chemo took from me.

I guess I don't look at it as what chemo took away from me, I take it as what chemo DID for me...and I don't mean helping me survive....lol....curly hair!~! AND no shaving for quite some time, I LOVED LOVED LOVED that!!!!!! ~juli

I loved the bald look. No bad hair days. Just didn't like losing the eyebrows and lashes. I wanted to get a henna tattoo on the bald head and enjoy.

That would've been a cool tattoo veggy! I LOVED not having any hair anywhere, didn't bother me that my hair fell out everywhere...the thing I hated was the big toenails falling off, and the thumbnails turning black, but luckily they stayed on. Now I had to have 'permanent' surgery on both big toenails as the nail grew back in VERY thick and hard (OUCH!). Yes, the things we go thru, that nobody knows about really. ~juli

I didn't lose my nails, but they were discolored. I loved not shaving my legs. Did save alot on haircare and razors. I remeber a friend asking me if you lose ALL your hair when you are on chemo and the look on her face when I said yes. Priceless!0

One thought about brows and lashes. Mine survived dose dense AC but came out during Taxol. I ditched my contact lenses and got a stylish pair of eyeglasses which seems to distract from the missing brows and lashes. I am three weeks post chemo and just starting to feel some peach fuzz on my head, so your stories and advice are helpful. Thanks!

MBJ, I was thinking of getting a flat iron, too. I think my hair is finally long enough - I just fear the damage from the flat iron?

Hi Goldie,
Thanks for offering to post people's photos. I'm a bit of a technophobe and cluess about this stuff so have sent you my before and after shots.
That's really kind of you to offer to post them. Thanks again.
Julie

Goldie - Thanks from me too! I don't have any before pics really. I hated how I looked and avoided the camera. My stylist took before and after pics though. I will get them from her and send them to you. I will admit, I look really grumpy in my before pics though!!

You are very welcome ladies. So without further adieu.......JULIE! Well, Julie's hair!

goldie, that is awesome of you to post Julie's pic (I kinda like Julie's name too...lol).
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, that is what post-chemo curls looked like! The blow-out looks beautiful too, and I love the color of your hair Julie. NICE! ~juli0 -
Wow! I'm jealous.Its gorgous!!!!

Goldie: Thanks for posting Julie's pictures!!! Wow, that is what I am doing when my hair is long enough. So much easier to care for and it looks longer when it's straight.
Fearlessone: Yes, the flat iron can cook your hair but I only ws with conditioner except for a couple of times a week I also do shampoo, I deep condition every other week or more if it needs it, I use tons of products that straighten the hair which all have silicone or softeners in them which help with damage. To me it's so worth it to just have "normal" hair. It's great that people think I chose this style and that I get complements. BTW: Marc Anthony Straight Extreme--I am trying this one for the first time today--I will let you know how it goes.

Julie - Your hair looks great!!!! Pretty much the same results that I have. Wow.
I went out in the rain today and no fuzz!!!! This has never happened for me before, even pre-chemo. I am loving this Blow out!!!

Just wondering how long it took for your eyebrows and eyelashes to grow back. I am now 1 month PFC and I literally have 3 eyelashes in each eye and very sparse eyebrows. For some reason, this is bothering more than my sporatic hair growth. Heather
