I am at 7 weeks PFC and have eyebrows that look like a 5 o'clock shadow and I can see little eyelashes that look like eyeliner. The growth started about a week ago. Hang in there!

I'm going to try and post some pictures, these first 2 were after my hair grew back after chemo.I finished chemo in feb 09,and these were jan 2010:

    <a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v699/Kathimdgd/?action=view&current=DSCN2459.jpg&quot; target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v699/Kathimdgd/DSCN2459.jpg&quot; border="0" alt="Kathi b4 haircut,after chemo"></a>

    <a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v699/Kathimdgd/?action=view&current=DSCN2460.jpg&quot; target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v699/Kathimdgd/DSCN2460.jpg&quot; border="0" alt="Back view of new hair"></a>

Doesn't look too bad there, then i got it cut into a jamie lee curtis look, and that was ok,i liked it well enough, then along came Femera.and it started to get thinner and straighter, now it's as straight as a ruler and much thinner that it was in the above picture.Last night i was running my hands thru my hair as i was watching tv,it came out by the handfuls, much like it did when chemo first started.

I'll have to see if i can find the more recent pictures, don't think i uploaded them to photobucket yet.

This one was taken  3 months before i was diagnosed with the Beast!!

    <a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v699/Kathimdgd/Grandkids/?action=view&current=IMG_4492.jpg&quot; target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v699/Kathimdgd/Grandkids/IMG_4492.jpg&quot; border="0" alt="Kathi &amp;amp; Markus"></a>

This one was after my 1st haircut this past feb.

    <a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v699/Kathimdgd/Grandkids/?action=view&current=DSCN2335.jpg&quot; target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v699/Kathimdgd/Grandkids/DSCN2335.jpg&quot; border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Hope this works!! Hair is much thinner now,and a little longer.I still have some pictures in the camera that i need to upload.

MarieK your hair looks good, and so does yours Julie.

Goldie thanks again for posting the 'photos you're a star Smile  How long do the chemo curls last for?

Julie0212  LOL yes we have a great name!  My dad's Scottish so I got the red hair from my granny.  Hated it growing up but I love it now.

Noda life is so much easier isn't it, I just love it.

    Wishing everyone good hair days.

Jules123:  Actually my 'legal' first name IS spelled JULIE, but when I got divorced, moved away due to job transfer, I didn't want to change my last name (too much hassle), so I changed my FIRST name to the JULI.  I just like how it looks.  I LIKE the red hair, it's gorgeous girlie!  ~juli

Jules - Life is definitely easier without the curls.  My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.  I will continue to do it until my chemo curl is gone.  I am currently 16 months out of chemo and there was no sign of the curl going anywhere.

Jules, 2 years PFC.....I'm still curly!

Kathi, where are the pictures that you are trying to post? Are they on the internet, or just on your computer?

If you want to experiment posting pictures, instead of hitting the "submit" button......use the "preview" button.

Ok, so when did the chemo curls first appear?  I am 8 weeks PFC, and my hair is coming in quite well, but is it straight, just like my pre chemo hair.  I am not complaining, but I was just wondering if it will eventually go curly or stay straight.

4-5 months after ending chemo is when mine started to curl. Not everyone get the curls either. So my dear....you will just have to wait and see! If you get them, you might like them, some do.....I DON'T!

dutchgirl - hi, I have curls.  My pre-chemo hair was long and had a very slight wave to it.  My post-chemo hair really started to curl up by about July.  I finished chemo in February.  I have a lot of curls now but am really liking them for a change. I'm also enjoying short hair, too. My previous hair was time consuming to blowdry and style so I'm going to keep it short, at least for a while anyway.

As a person with naturally straight hair, a part of me is curious to have curls, just for a change.  However, from reading this board, I have a feeling that I might be better off to have my old hair back.  At this point, I would just be happy to have hair, either way!

    Hello,

I finished my last T/C Tx a week ago. I have some fuzz hair all over my head, but I was never really bold. Most of my hair fall down on day 14, I buzzed the rest and since then until now is more or less same. I lost my leg hair, underarm, but never my arm hair. My eyebrows thined but I started with really thick eyebrows, same with lashes.

I just read that 10%of women on T/C have permanent hair loss and to be honest I am freaking out.

What to expect? I lost my period on chemo, I am 42, no radiation as I had mastectomy and would be on Tamoxifen.

nikola:  My hair came back in curly & thick & soft.  Then it started to straighten and thin out on tamoxifen.  My hairdresser recommended if I really liked the curl (I DID), to get a perm.  Now my hair is curly, but after 3 1/2 years on tamoxifen, now on Aromasin, it's thin.  I wash & condition, spray leave-in conditioner and I don't COMB the hair at all.  We have to accept that our bodies are different after treatments, and adapt accordingly?  That's what I'm doing.  I like thick hair, but if I can't have it, I'll fake it!   ~juli

Question All -- I have a friend who has bald spots - as her hair is growing back and it is thick it's not growing as fast in all areas and the bald spots are annoying. I think it was on this site where someone said they had purchased something for that. I think it was some kind of powder you sprinkle on that hides the balding areas. Do any of you remember something like this? I'd like to tell her about it but can't remember the name of it or where to buy it. Thanks,

Nikola:  My oncologist smiled when I told her I had read of patients on T/C whose hair did not come back.  She said she has never had a patient who experienced permanent hair loss.  I am now 6 months out from my last T/C treatments, and my hair is about 2 inches, full, soft and EXTREMELY curly.  I get a lot of compliments on how it looks now.  To me, it looks like I got a very tight curly perm!  I faithfully have taken Biotin which I have to believe has helped.  (My nails now look very nice, too!)

emegram -- go to the Taxotere and Hair Loss thread in the Biographies of BC Survivors Forum, print it out and take it to your onc!  For the approx. 6% of patients whose hair didn't come back after taxotere, you'll be doing them and all future patients a favour!

Carolyn -- pm hrf and ask her about the powder.  She has been using it.

It's now about 28 months since my last chemo and my hair continues to have waves!  Sure hoping they stay......

Carolyn - It's called Toppik and I tried it after hrf suggested it. I love it! It definitely helps and I'm so thankful that she posted the info about it :)

    Nikola

The chance of permanent hair loss is extremely rare. I believe if you look up the drug SEs listed by the manufacturer you will see that the % is very very very low. Your hair will grow back!! I will say prepare yourself for the eyebrow and eyelash loss. Most of us TC girls lost brows and lashes after treatment. They grow back in ...they fall out...grow back...fall out. I use Anastasia eyebrow stencil kit from Sephora and now 4 mos post chemo most of my lashes and brows are in but I still use the brow kit to fill in. Also I am 43 I started chemo 3/17 had my period up until the last treatment on May 17th. I felt crampy and bloated around the time I was supposed to get my period and JUST GOT IT BACK! I never thought I'd be so happy to get my period but I just did not want to be in menopause. So essentially I missed 3 cycles and my period was two weeks later than scheduled if it stayed on track by the 4th cycle. I think they say the longer you have your period during chemo the more likely it is to return. Hope that helps!

    Good night all!!!

Thx Melbell and Indasa, I'll tell her. Can you get this at the local beauty supply? I may just pic some up for her - she's having her mastectomy on Monday.

On AC total periods every single day of the 8-week course, then first day of Taxol *BOOM*, smacked into menopause that very day.  Post-menopausal now totally.  (Was pre-menopausal before chemo completely)   Even had a uterine biopsy due to the daily period on AC, onco said it was 'unusual', I found out otherwise afterwards, lots of women had their periods daily on that regimen.  (Dose-dense every 2 weeks)  Everyone is different!    ~juli

I have been reading on this thread about when hair starts growing back....

My question is, when did you lose it?  Nikola said she did on day 14.  Is that pretty common?

    • Annette S, my hair started falling out about two weeks after my first infustion of FEC, I had my head shaved before my second treatment.  I am now 8 weeks PFC, and it is coming in nicely.
As to the period thing, I had some light spotting two days after my first tx, then they stopped completely, it's been 5 months and I wasn't sad to say goodbye to that nonsense.  At 51, I was so ready.

I posted about the Toppik hair powder a couple times here.  You can get it at Sally Beauty Supply or order on line.  If you get a Dr. Leonards catalog, they sell it too.  If you don't have a Sally's probably any beauty supply would have it.

I lost my hair 16 days after my first chemo treatment.  From that day I used a 3 step treatment called Nioxin.  I am 5 weeks post chemo and my hair is coming in thick, soft and very healty.  I rub some on my eyebrows too and they are growing already really nice.   My son is  balding at the age of 25, he started using Nioxin and much to my suprise his hair is getting thicker.  Not coming back but is getting thicker even with his military helmet on all the time. This may be an option if anyone wants to give it a try.  It is a little expensive but I am on week 16 with the same bottles as being bald and washing the scalp it goes a long way.  Does anyone have any ideas for the eye lashes?
