Reading posts re: scalp care - my scalp just became an extension of my face. It felt weird shampooing it, so I just washed it with my gentle face soap and then moisturized it the same as my face.

Ossa,
Latisse is working! It took about 4 weeks to see anything, but in the last couple of weeks my lashes are really filling in and actually growing longer. The few I had were so short and stubby! I am using one brush for both eyes and have made it last a little longer. The nurse at my MO gave the name of a PS who "deals" L:atisse at a lower cost, so I am going to check him out. Too bad the lashes will fall right back out when we stop using it!
I am okay with the gray hair. I think I will keep it this way for now anyway. It mostly black in the back. My hair was ash brown before all this.
I have been using Mane and Tail horse shampoo and conditioner. I don't know if it really helps, but my hair is very soft and is pretty thick now. It took a long time to fill in, but it has and now just needs to grow a bit.

Thanks for all the thoughts about how to care for shiny new scalp!!
Congrats on all your beautiful hair re-growth and new clumpy eyelashes and thick eyebrows!!0 -
Where do you get latisse?

I used Johnson's baby wash - I couldn't justify putting my expensive Nexxus shampoo on a bald head, and I found that my regular body wash made my tender scalp itchy.
Am I the only one who cannot keep her hands off her hair? If I am sitting without anything to keep my hands occupied, they are on my head. I always was a hair twirler, so I guess old habits never really die...

I found that lots of people were always touching my head, or rubbing it - me included!

ok this feels like the antithesis of vanity but my intention is to give hope to those waiting for their hair to come back. these pics are from today which is 1 year and about 5 months now PFC

and here is some history of it coming back, from 4 weeks to 8 months.

Carroll - wow! Your hair has really gotten long! And I still love the darker color on you! I think my length is just about where yours was at 32 weeks.

I love seeing your timeline pictures, Carrol - it renews my hope... I am 17 weeks today, and pretty close to being in between your 15 and 19 week photos.

Love the pics and the timeline and that in a little over a year you have longish hair ! Thanks

Carrol - Your hair looks amazing! Can you tell me what products you're using and your routine (blow dry, straighten, etc.)? I'm just a couple months behind you but my hair is still pretty curly/wavy. I love the style!

Wow Carrol your hair is back! Love the color. (I'm getting mine buzzed again tomorrow. I now cut it every 4 months. I'm staying short).
Marjie (my twin) I've been sporting spider lashes myself. I just can't see anymore. Should be better once these come in
But just to let you know spider lashes are in. I think it's the new Latisse inspired look

Mizmarie, I'm convinced that the reason my hair is so much thinner on top is because of my constant rubbing of the top of my head.
I was told by my MO today that it can take a year for the chemo curls to revert to your normal hair. I had to laugh at the NP who asked me "did your hair come in that color?" (I dyed it several days ago) she said almost everyone's comes in gray/black.0 -
Thanks for all the compliments. I don't do much to my hair. I try not to shampoo it every day but I do wet it and blow it out every day or it's a little too poodle for my taste. Takes me about 15 minutes and then I mostly just sue hairspray to hold it but I just started using some morrocan oil on my bangs to keep some of the frizz down. As far as color goes I don't know if you can tell I ahve a bit of grey seems mostly on my bangs. I decided not to color it anymore at least until it's down to my shoulders then I might go blonde again. we'll see. Here are pics of me before all this. I had been hilighting my hair for years so it was very damaged and it was always baby fine.

this is how I usually looked

Whatashoce.. I got latisse from my PS office quite pricey, but decided it was worht a try ( I am in Canada and paid $160.00 for one bottle)
Carrol2 looking good.. My hair has now decided it wants to be curly... not long enough to form a curl yet, so it sticks out every which direction.... but ...it's hair

My hair is growing fast and my last chemo is tomorrow-Woo Hoo!! I am so excited that I can be in the "PFC" club!! Another part of this journey done....my eyebrows and eyelashes fell out on the Taxol and my eyes tear constantly...need Latisse!!
I am amazed at everyone's hair and look forward to going out without my wig or scarf! Looking forward to dancing in the chemo suite tomorrow! Sooo excited!0 -
carroll, WOW!!! you truly are a fast hair-grower. it's just so long and beautiful and you look fabulous. i'm almost 24 weeks PFC and i look more like you at 13 weeks.

Bonseye - congrats on last chemo! Hope your hair grows fast! I haven't tried latisse but used brian joseph brow and lash gel. Thinned when taxol ended, but 9 weeks pfc and brows &lashes are thicker than ever. I am ready for a brow wax. I am convinced its the extra virgin olive oil I have been rubbing on head and brows the last 9 weeks that has made them grow so fast.

Thanks again for all the compliments. You will all have your hair back soon and this chemo stuff will feel like a distant memory very quickly.

Today is my first cancerversary, kind of a strange day.. This past year has been so full of ups and downs.. Cried a lot, laughed a lot, puked a lot,ate food with no taste (buds), was upset to loose my hair, was exited to see new hair growth, learned to apply makeup to look like brow and lashes, brows and lashes coming back, most of all I have learned to appreciate life and not take it for granted.. Don't sweat the small stuff.. So appreciate all you ladies you have all in your own way been a great help to me, thank you each and every one.. Have a wonderful easter weekend

Carol2 - your hair looks great. I don't post on this thread much anymore (I lurk sometimes) but I recall seeing your hair re-growth evolution chart not too long ago and found it very interesting. It's great that you shared it because it's really helpful for others to see the progress.

About two months ago I had a bad experience with coloring my own hair using my usual Clariol Natural Instincts (washes out in 28). The color came out a light orange and I ended up cutting off all the colored hair. It was only about an inch, but I wasn't willing to wait until it grew out or try to recolor. It was easier to just start fresh since I had been wearing my wig anyway.
So my hair finally grew back in and was very salt/pepper in color. It also grow in fuller and since the salt/pepper was making me feel awkward, I decided to go to a professional to color this time. I have about 1 to 2 inches depending on the area. It was the first time I have ever gone to a professional, but felt like she could do a better job. She used a semi-permanent and I now have a shade of brown that is similar to my old hair and my wig. The only problem now is that I am not used to the color and it's kinda tough. I think the brown color really emphasizes how short it is I also have these little bangs that aren't long enough and overall I don't feel very feminine.
I can't wait for a few more months to go by. This hair thing is getting to me. I also have other issues from chemopause, etc. but the worst is that everything feels so out of my control. Sorry for venting... it's just the way it is right now.

Rocky--why don't you see if your hairdresser can lighten the color it if you are not happy with it?
I too had problems doing a temp color at home. Got a gray/pink shade.

Carrol--LOVE your beautiful hair! Reminds me of the Farrah Fawcet (sp?) hair style when I was a teen. I think it's made a come-back, so you're totally in style!
