I'm 8 weeks PFC and am pulling my hat off in public and could care less at this point. Controlling my internal thermostat and being comfortable take presidence. Just so glad I'm not ALL skin. (Turns out I have a birthmark on top of my head!). Anyway, I got these longer crazy hairs (the first to grow) so I look fuzzy. Not sure when to cut them...but not yet. ;-)

juneaubugg, you look gorgeous.

Hi ladies new to this thread...
Shaving my head was the absolute worst for anything yet!... Ugh. I am on # 4 A/C next week then into 4 Taxol. Will it be after Taxol before I see anything ?? Also I got biotin and silica but the nurse said I should wait very curios about eyelashes and eyebrows. I know this will pass but ... Yuck!!0 -
Oh and what is PFC???

PFC is post final chemo. My hair started growing back during my 12 weekly Taxol/Hercpetins!

Thanks!!!! Maybe I actually on the upswing!!!0 -
junebug you look great. Such big gorgeous brown eyes and your arms are jacked! I cut my hair at about 4 months PFC just to make all the layers even so it would grow in consistant all over my head.

Does the texture get better? Mine is horrible. Like an unraveled brillo pad. I shed the wigs and have moved on to hats. I guess it will just take a long time to feel and look normal again. I have to look at photo's to recall what my hair was like before.

juneaubugg your hair has such even coverage it looks great. I'd be tempted to buzz off the long fuzzy bits then it would totally look like an intentional buzz cut.

juneaubugg, when I was around 4 weeks PFC I had about an inch of hair. I was feeling good so I colored it. It turned an orange/red, so at that point I used my husband's beard trimmer and buzzed off about 3/4 of an inch. I didn't want to wait for the color to grow out. After that, it grew out even and nice. I'm a bit over 12 months PFC now and still no haircut! Your hair looks great. If you have a trimmer, I would suggest it having been there myself :-).

schatzi- I know how you feel. I am 19 months PFC and my hair is still really thin. A lot thinner than it used to be, especially on my crown. Plus my eyebrows are super light now. They used to always be really dark. And they are really thin too. I'm 28 and single and it drives me crazy b/c I'm always worrying about my bald spot showing... I'm on tamoxifen.. I want my hair back!!

Melanie Ann...I totally understand your frustration. You are so young to be dealing with this. I got my first haircut yesterday in a Jamie Lee type shag. The stylist was fantastic. She told me to blow dry just the crown cause I told her I wanted a "just finger dry style". I hate using the blow dryer. She said just blow the front BOTH WAYS. It gives it some volume..then to use not mousse but a styling CREAM. You can play with it and it did seem to make it fuller. I woke up this morning and just ran my fingers thru it and it was good to go. I usually wash it every day but even tho it seems a tad greasy to me, I won't today. I hope this style works for me cause the 4" long hair was just weighing it down and made it look even thinner. I hope you can find a style that works for you. Many gals swear by Nioxin products to thicken it but I didn't even bother to try it. Did you colour it PFC? I am thinking about it just to get some thicker texture but I really like the gray.

Melanie Ann: I bought Brian Josephs gel. I found it on here. It really works. My eyelashes started coming back immediately and my brows are thickening up. Wish I'd known about it BEFORE they all fell out!

Ann: Yeah, I'm so grateful it's growing back so evenly.
RockyM; Not sure it's long enough for that - but perhaps just a trim... ;-)
I actually switched from the JOhnson Baby Head to Toe wash I've been using for... well head to toe, and used some shampoo and conditioner today!! I'm not sure it made any difference at all - but I sure felt better!

Can someone tell me how to post a picture? I have it on shutterfly & can't get it to copy here. Thanks!

Juneau: Both you AND your hair look gorgeous!

I think I figured it out. Sorry if it's too big. This is my hair at about 42 weeks pfc.

Shore1: Both you and your hair look amazing. How did you post it, BTW?

Kjiberty - thanks. I copied the url from a pic I had on shutterfly with the little icon that says "insert image."

shore, you look fabulous...that's quite a lot of hair growth in just 42 weeks!

Today I got my first cut and color I'm 17 weeks PFC. It was hard to see some of this hair gone but it's mostly hair that she said would not be manageable and would be flyaway. She put the same color wash that she'd used prior to my hair loss which she used to cover streaks of gray. It was not permanent dye and just faded over time and has no peroxide. She thought the color looked much flatter on the new hair that I have grown and will make changes next time to brighten it up a bit until I start growing in my old type of hair.
It's nice to have the gray gone but it's really short still and I haven't completely decided whether to just go topless now or wear a wig. At least now gray wisps don't try to poke out of the sides of wig.
Almost everyone in the salon had short hair, not as short as mine, except one of the hairdressers whose was shorter except her bangs.0 -
Nkb, you make a good point about women who work in a hair salon...you usually see lots and lots of unique and creative hairstyles and colors on them! I work in a school and just happened to notice last week that a number of women there have fallen into the rut of all having the same, shoulder length hair parted on the side with blonde highlights.....a little on the safe, boring side...kinda reminded me of "Stepford Teachers". Ha, ha.
I've never had my hair colored professionally, always did it myself, but I decided, after seeing the stepford teachers, to go for the two-toned look, a bit lighter on top and darker on the bottom. So I went to the daughter of a friend who works at our Walmart hair salon. I saw all kinds of hairstyles on the cosmetologists who work there! It was a nice, refreshing change of pace. And I loved how my hair turned out!

shore you look beautiful, no sign of chemo. SO nice to see you smile with that gorgeous family.

Carrol2 & Divine - thanks, I'm starting to feel better about my hair - finally - even though I still miss my long pony tail. Did't mean to post the whole family pic tho - ha ha thought I cropped it.

Juneau and Shore, thanks for the pix. You both looks great. Juneau, your brows are beautiful!!! Mine came back thin and very light. But I highly recommend the Anastasia brow duo, which I learned about on either this thread or one on cosmetic things...

shore - what a great pic! Your hair looks fabulous (jealous) and you have a beautiful family!

WaveWhisperer: thanks! I have been using brow pencil to darken the color of my brows a bit.
TheDivineMrsM: I have ALWAYS colored my hair professionally - even though I'm still not gray at 44 (just lucky). My hari has always been colored mostly in the auburn/red family. When others need a change they cut their hair; I color mine! Last time was two tone - BRIGHT RED on the bottom, and Auburn Brown on top. I miss my FUNK! Oh well.
I can't imgaine going all those weeks with a hat on at this point; and I tossed the wig after only 7 days at my new job. You can totally see my scalp still, but I don't give a damn. I am grateful my hair is growing in evenly across my head. If I were patchy I would absolutly care.

I am almost 5 mos PFC. Kjliberty, we started chemo one day apart, same treatment. My hair is not quite as long as yours. Mine was very curly before all this and is coming in the same, very curly on too, meduium curly on sides. Tufts. Hard to figure out how to fix it. I need some kind of trim, maybe on the neck. And how to control it. Maybe I'll call some today, though I go wig less at home I still have been wearing wig out. Tired of it but dont want to look like crap.

Hey girls! Anybody have their hair come back straight? Im 6.5 months PFC and still no sign of curl or wave...still poker straight like it was before. Do you think it might still curl?
0 -
Mine came back pretty straight with a little wave. Granted I never let my hair get that long.
0 -
Love74 mine came in a little bit curlier than it was but it was always wavy, but now its more wavy and a little less curl like it was. I can see how the ends are still curlier than the new hair coming in. Overall I am very happy with it. It's very healthy and I love the layers.
Getting my third trim on thursday. My bangs are all the way past my chin now so going to trim them up to my nose again. That will be a huge amount to cut compared to what I have done so far. I am keeping the layers too so going to add some to the top of my head. They give me great volume.
