My hair was never longer than between my chin and shoulders before bc. That's were it's at now, but I'm letting it grow longer. At Halloween, I bought an elasticized ponytail hair piece at Sally Beauty Supply (about $10), pulled my hair up and back and tacked it on.

Went to school dressed as a beauty queen (see my avatar) and some goofy people thought it was my real hair; it was GREAT fun to wear.  I work at an elementary, and our last day before Christmas break was pajama day, all students and staff came to school in p.j.s.....I wore them and put my hair back up with the fake hair and once again loved it.  Funniest part was when I got home, DH got that look in his eyes and said, "I like your hair." It really appealed to him.  I'm going to fix it like that Christmas day.  A little girl at school had her hair up like that with a blinking Christmas bulb necklace woven through it...adorable, and would love to do the same if I can find a similar necklace.  We have a crazy hair day coming up at school (during Dr. Seuss week) and once again, I'll use the ponytail hair to create a memorable 'do.

What I'm saying is that, once your hair reaches a certain point, consider using fake hair to give you more styling options.  Aside from the wig I wore during chemo, I'd never had fake hair before.  I might even consider buying a second ponytail hairpiece to plump up the volume.  I'm actually having more fun with my hair than I ever have....

onvacation, my hair started growing back straight and I also had the sticking straight up problem!  One of my friends called it my punk rocker look.  Once it got a little longer it started laying down, but definitely has more wave now.  I agree with you completely, every week (day??!!!) is a new adventure with this hair regrowth!

Divine, I can't wait until I can get my hair into a pony tail and use some of those cool hair extensions!

I love seeing everyone's pictures also, and hope we will all keep posting. Getting a sense of the hair growth timeline and hearing from all the beautiful, brave women who were ahead of me on this journey was such an inspiration when I was bald and felt like crap.  We need to keep paying it forward!  In this spirit, I updated my timeline for Ann and others at the beginning of the hair regrowth adventure.  I have had three trims to clean up the back and around my ears, but the top has been growing the whole time.  I also use a non-ammonia color from Sally's to cover a few grays around my ears, but mostly this is my natural color.  Oh, and I have also lost 15 lbs since the end of treatment which is why my face looks thinner (yay!)!

    Happy Holidays!

crazyride you look awesome I love the little pixie cut on you. You remind me of the actress from harry Potter who cut her hair I forget her name. She had really long bushy hair then cut it like yours and she looked way better.

Aw thanks Carrol.  You have been a huge inspiration for me with all your posts and pictures and encouragement!

Does anyone else wish there was a "like button" function so we can like people's posts?

Your hair looks adorable...  How LUCKY.. How fortunate you were... at 33 weeks to have that...  Mine looked like that after one year!!!  This is why I am not looking forward to losing it AGAIN..   I have been having small hairballs in the bathtub drain when I wash it...  but nothing like when I lost it the first time around.  I am praying the ice cap is doing something...  something good...  I also have no side effects from the Taxol...  None at all...  Is this normal?  I'm praying for a healthier 2013..  for a miracle..  that it goes into remission..   Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!!

No one has ever said that. Thank you!  Smile  Some people say I look like Marisa Tomei. My hair has gotten really thick and curly.

Crazyride and kjliberty, you both look great.  Crazy, if I get to something like your "15 weeks" mark I think I'll keep it there for a while.  Looks adorable.  Mine is still very patchy coverage on top and in the crown.

Hi Ladies -- Can't wait to "officially" join this thread.  I still have sixteen days to go until I'm PFC (barring no delays!)  I've been lurking - looking at the beautiful progress you ladies are having with your hair -- loving those pictures!!!

I've had some scalp pain with taxotere.  Not as painful as when my hair was falling out with the AC, but some tenderness.  At first I thought my remaining stubble that never fell out was probably falling out, but I find no hair on my pillows or towel.  Anyone have scalp tenderness when the hair started growing back??  I am hoping thats what it is.  I have found a teeny bit of new growth, so I'm hoping the tenderness is my hair coming back. I can't really see the area that is tender, so can't see if there is growth there or not.  I would be happy if there was finally a positive reason for pain! HA!

Hope to be back here starting a picture timeline in 16 days!!!

fight, I definitely had head tenderness as my hair was starting to grow back, and also got lots of little "bumps" almost like ingrown hairs.  I did lots of head massage and that seemed to help.  The new hair really does seem to appear overnight, so you don't have too much longer to wait!  I remember how excited I was to see the shadow on my head when I looked in the mirror (about 6 weeks PFC), and then it just took off from there.  Taking a weekly picture really helped me track the progress, especially when it feels like it's taking forever.

The regrowth process takes patience, but in a scientific way it's also sort of fascinating.  Congrats on almost being done with chemo (yay!) and I can't wait to see your pics!

    Hi!

Just wanted some types on how to style my short chemo curly hair. Grateful that my hair is growing back, but it it's hard to style. Any recommended products or styling types would sure be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Juneaubugg - a lot of growth since your last picture post! Looks good!

Ulightup - my hair was very curly beofre chemo, and after. I'm about 47 weeks pfc. I use a smoothing shampoo & conditioner (I like the Ojon Sleek products, but they are pricey and I"ve found John Freda pretty good too). My favorite styling product is a John Freda frizz taming oil (about $8) that goes on when hair is wet (it's like MOroccon oil, but cheaper than the original, and I think its less greasy than the one Sally Beauty carries). After I dry it, I use a large curling iron to take out the frizz, smooth it out with John Freda anti-frizz cream or Got2b gel (the one in the orange jar). Then I put a head band or other hair accessory in - I just feel like it gives it an on-purpose look when its this short. I posted a pic a few pages back if you want to see. It's grown a lot since that pic was taken & I'll try to post another soon. One other tip I have is don't try to blow dry it or fight the curl when its very short - if its too short to get around a round brush and pull it smooth like with longer curly hair, it just gets puffier. I also am not cutting mine, and I feel like letting it be curly camoflauges unevenness better than if I tried to straighten it with an iron.

AEM:  Because you're special????  Don't know.  It is weird that it downloaded sideways

Ulightup:  I let the curls do their own thing in the back.  I bought a 1/2" flat iron and it makes my hair look more "normal".  Please see my current avatar.  It looks very straight in the front, but it's the flat iron doing it's job.  Get it wet, and it's back to the tight curls. I also use "It's a 10" conditioning spray after I wash it.

Fight - thanks for asking about the scalp tendernes and Crazyride thank you for answering; I was afraid I would be losing my stubble.

Juneabug, How long between pictures and when were you done with chemo? I have my last chemo on Dec 31, and cannot wait for actual hair growth, right now just stubble.

mamaV thanks for posting. I am 2 years PFC and I don't get to see too many pics of ladies as far off as I am. I only cut my hair 2x and then it was very very little. One was at 4 months and the other was at 1 year 6 months. It doesn't grow in evenly so you have to trim it at some point. I am due for another cut now. My bangs are all grown out past my chin now and I decided I want them back and more layers back. It is pretty traumatic for me to go to the salon though. My ends are a little crunchy now not sure why, possibly leftover from the chemo, more likely from blow drying it every day. But it looks like yours is pretty much back to how your hair was before, I think mine is too.
