Melissa - I know how you feel. My hair was thick and long before, and even though I colored it for stray grays, it was nothing compared to how gray it started to grow back! So upsetting. I colored it with a temp rinse at 4 weeks just to make myself feel better, even though I continued to wear wig for 8 months pfc! But the dull gray look quickly went away and now it's my old color and nice and shiny looking. Schatzi is right - don't panic. I have not trimmed it yet - not even once. I amin the headband stage. I could still cry (and do) when I see a long pony tail on some passing stranger. But I do feel better about it than I did months ago - it helped me to think of time frames, like by the end of summer I'll look like this or by Thanksgiving it'll be this long, etc.  I'm still thinking that way - by my birthday in February, I'll have another inch or more, and by Easter, maybe a short pony!

Thanks schatzi14 and shore1. Makes me feel a little bit better. I guess I just have to be patient right? Really hope this white/gray goes away fast! So depressing on top of everything else! Ugh!... By the way shore1....I see u r from Nj. So am I. And I grew up going down the shore and still go with my kids all the time. My parents have a place on the barrier island although right now we can't go :-(. Wondering where u were from?

Melissa......my hair started out white and fuzzy, too, like a baby ostrich.  It is normally dark brown (see pic above). It started to darken fast but had more gray in it than before. I colored it for the first time at 12 weeks PFC.

Melissa - im in mercer county. Its sad about our beloved shore, huh? We go to Sea Girt all the time -its only about 35 minutes away- love it there.

Rn4babies - "baby ostrich" ha ha good way to put it. That gray it comes in is just one more slap. Thank God it works its way back to mostly its own color. I was 41 at dx and will be 43 in february, so I guess more gray now was inevitable with or without BC.

Butterfly:  I, too, take 5,000 mcg of biotin and used Bosley shampoo/hair conditioner.  I think it's similar to Nioxin.  My hair was like baby ostrich, but it has been growing like a weed since about 5-6 weeks PFC.  It will grow and grow. I have gotten 4 haircuts since my last treatment on 6/28.  Hang in there, girl!

Here's 35 weeks tomorrow and 2 haircuts - now I'm letting it grow a bit. But I think if I didn't have it cut there would have been a good solid 2-3 inches more

Shore1 - Thanks for all of the advice. Did you use the Nioxin on the stubble or did you wait to use it when your hair started to come in? I am hoping to have some hair by my birthday in Feb. Not expecting a lot of hair, but some hair would be great!!

    Have a wonderful day!

AEM, I think we are at exactly the same hair growth stage (I'm 33 weeks), but I can't get mine to look cool and spiky on top like yours (I use pomade and hairspray - no luck) so I slick it down.  Let me know your styling secrets!  I have also had a few trims, but mainly to help the top and front catch up with the sides and back.  I think it would have been a pretty strange looking mullet-like style if I had just let it grow and I have a lot of business meetings where I need to look at least somewhat decent.  My bangs are definitely growing the slowest! My avatar is from 27 weeks, and it's grown a lot since then so I will try to upload a pic I took yesterday.  I feel like every day is a new adventure with this hair growth thing - I never know what new hair style I will have after my shower!  Some days I like it, and many days I hate it, but honestly that's not so different than before LOL!

    Crazyride, you look lovely.

Butterfly, yes, I did use the Nioxin products on stubble/super short crew. My hair started growing noticeably by about #7 of 12 Taxol. By 4 weeks pfc, I had total coverage and it was thick, but gray, and just too short for me to deal with not wearing a wig. So I continued with Nioxin, and the other stuff I mentioned. On trimming, do what you feel you can - I know it might be necessary to even things out in some cases, but it depends on your hair type. Mine is waivy/curly and I didn't cut it because it the curls camoflauge any uneven pieces. Also, I think I'd have a panic attack (literally) in the salon if my hair dresser even came near me with scissors. I've had her highlight and color it, and that helped the look, but I don't see myself cutting it until its long enough for me to get an angeled bob and its long enough for me to blow it out (now, it can't get around the large round brush for a smooth blow out). I aiming for this by June!

Thanks Shore1 - my hair prior to chemo was very long, thick and extremely curly....it will be interesting to see how it comes in now. Some of my stubble is light blonde like my hair color from when I was really young and some is the brown that it was when it fell out. Since the stubble is only about an 1/8 in long hard to tell what it is going to do. The sides are lighter than the top.

Sorry with the chemo brain, one more question, with the olive oil did you heat it like a hot oil treatment or just put on room temperature?

I really appreciate all of your help!!

Butterfly - I didn't heat it, just rubbed it on every night and left it in til morning. Put a towel on top of your pillow case. I used good extra virgin olive oil only -- my husband kept trying to get me to use the cheaper stuff! Nut - he was kidding of course, and knew I would've put $1,000 worth of olive oil or any other product, condiment, or food on my head if it would have helped grow hair!

Love the hair pictures so much!!  Everyone looks so amazing in short hair, it really shows off beautiful eyes.

I am still growing mine out too, my curl is starting to relax a little more.  My bangs are just touching my eyebrowsSmile  I remember thinking it had a long way to go to reach that point.

I had to cancel my haircut today. I am kid of bummed but the roads are really slippery. I have only cut it 2x in 2 years and my bangs are all grown out now and I want them back. I was getting nervous though. I have trouble cutting it or coloring it it is so precious to me now. I know you girls can relate. I just want to take really good care of it.

I used nioxin when it first started to come in. Now I am using Melalueca which makes it really shiny. I order it from another BCO member pm me if your interested I'll pass along her info. It is all non toxic no parabens or sulfates.

So I guess the fuzzy stuff on the side of the head and not much to speak of on top is normal?  Seems like others are doing the same thing?  And mine is looking white too so far.  I had some white in my hair before chemo, but it wasn't a lot so I'm hoping this stuff doesn't hang around either.  I guess I should just be lucky that I have something growing back in the first place.  Has anyone used a product called hair cell ovation?  They advertise it on the radio every day...saying that it makes your hair grow faster, stronger etc.

Looking good crazyride - the only thing that is working for me right now is Got 2b Glue - it's a yellow tube.  I only put it on top and then while my hair is damp, I flat iron just the top up, forward and in the direction I want it to go and I just leave it like that while I get ready for work.  Then I kinda piece it out with my fingers and spray it into place.  I only use a 1/2 ince flat iron - I only flat iron about 4 sections from bangs back and then I may tip it over to the side with the flat iron when it's dry.  Pomade will peice it out very nicely and after you put it where you want it, spray it.  I would have a tight curl on the top if I did not flat iron while it was slightly damp the Got 2b glued is a very strong - once it's flat ironed with that it defintely doesn't come out till the next shower.

Shannie - - I am finally sleeping thru the night...or at least getting 6-7 hours and I don't need to go on the show " Intervention" !! I'm so happy that I survived the insomnia without becoming addicted to anything..Cause at one point, I really didnt care..lol. Still have the stiffness and a little less strength than I used to. Haven't gotten on the scale...but I'm thinking I've gained a solid 5+ pounds......but I gotta think that the fact that I am here to complain about it means it might be doing it's job.

Wow - all you ladies look amazing!  I had my very first post-diagnosis haircut today.  I had put it off for at least a couple of months - I discovered that my hair lady moved out of the area, so I was dreading finding someone else.  Luckily, a good friend recommended her stylist, and when I finally got up the courage to call, learned she is very popular and I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment.  It was well worth the wait!  I thought I would be freaked out, but my hair has been growing not only in length, but in bulk, and was getting very hard to manage.  She trimmed only a half-inch or so from the length, but she really went to town with the thinning shears.  I think I may have lost a pound just in hair.  Of course she took all the time in the world with drying and straightening it, but when she was done, I actually looked like my old self.  It's such a happy day!

Hi ladies, I'm one day PFC so I'm officially joining this thread.  My hair started growing during Taxol and I have quite a bit of coverage on the sides, and patchy coverage on the top and crown.  Plus, joy of joys, I have a big knot on the left side back of my skull and for some reason that spot is still nearly bald.  It wasn't that way before chemo!  But heck with it, I've started going hatless quite a bit.  Wearing hats indoors isn't worth the hot flashes they seem to trigger.

Brows are practically nonexistent-- some white hairs on one side and specks of new brown hair on the other.  I'm using liberal brow powder.  Lashes are worse-- just a few short blond hairs.  I don't bother to mascara them, just use some black eyeshadow as liner.  With all that and balancing the blad head with a scarf I "think" I look normal enough for Southern California.

Looking forward to getting full coverage and wearing an evolving pixie cut.  All the shots you've posted look great.  I was a long-hair before (hair down to mid-butt) so this will be a new adventure.

Love all the pictures!  You all are beautiful!  My hair is coming in straight but seems to be growing straight up!   I can't get it to lay down, so i just spike it up for now.  Seems to change weekly!  So glad to have hair, but I am ready for it to be a little longer!
