Smile, is that permanent make-up a tattoo?

I had permanent makeup done on my brows a week ago and I love it.  It is like a tatoo but the needles do not go as deep and the ink is different.

For now I am skipping the Latrisse because my lashes are growing back in really well on their own.

Rayhope, your growth pattern sounds normal for herceptin.  Don't worry, it will fill in, but slowly due to herceptin.

Lisa, do you think I can get that online?  I am so depressed at my lack of hair - I wonder if the folliculitis I had for 2 1/2 weeks either stunted growth or killed follicles?

Lisa:  Thanks for the encouragement.  Hopefully, I won't have that extremely thin hair on top that I've seen on some older women.  I went to the resthairation website, but they don't list ingredients.  Could you share what's in their products?  You must have gotten a great deal because it's a lot more expensive on website.  Hope it works for you!

    Hey ladies!

I am back from a 3 day camping trip up in the mountains and there was a beautiful sandy beach that all the kids had a blast in... but I think the sun on my head turned my auburn hair... orange!!! and I realized that the box of color I got said "permanent" AFTER I did it!   I hope I didn't screw it up too much!

Chelev-hang in there girl, it will come back, it comes back slowly if you were on a taxane.

My eyebrows starting come back, but looks like they're off duty again.  Eyelashes seem to be getting some more life in them, hopefully they decide to stay put this time.

just got my first trim she trimmed around the ears and in the back i did not one hair cut but she said it will grow back faster so i did it.  it looks cleaner now she also put gel in it to lift it off my head on the top it is 1 inch on top approx and is very wavy so she kind of spiked it, it is a curly spike never seen a curly spike before. i am going to post pictures soon my neice is going to help me figure it out. we just came back from 5 days of camping i must say that it only takes a cup of water to wash your hair i guess there are some advantages to this whole mess. i love all the posts lately they are inspiring to here that there is the same feelings out there as you    WE ARE NOT ALONE  that is a wonderful feeling              sharon

Hey all, I am still the poster child for bald. I have very soft white hair that you can see on the back of my head. and a few long hairs around mt ears. But for the most part shinny bald. I am 8 weeks PFC I think that I am the worst on the site!!!!! I am scared I will be one of the 2% that do not get there hair back! Could it be?????? I just do not have the patience for this. I just want to quit and not be concerned with it but it just is not in the cards. I hope that this week is a turn around week and stuff will start to happen. Do all of you with hair people ( I am trying to continue to like you) have your goddess hair back too? Not that I am in a big hurry with that but just curious if it follows the same route.

MIL is visiting. So busy with Rads and entertaining can't wait to rest. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Shadow, I knew a woman who washed her hair only once or twice a week, and she kept her hair a LOOOOONG time. I washed mine daily, and out it came with every shower.  I wonder if this could be it? I would not worry. I bet it will fall out. Has it started to "hurt" yet? Like you've kept a pony tail in too long??

Bold, I am definitely NOT a poster child for goddess hair!!  I am starting 8 weeks PFC and have lots of shiny scalp - very very slow moving hair coming in.  Trying to be patient, having heard that on the taxanes may cause it to grow in slower than other chemos.  Not liking that one bit and am NOT very patient either!!

Bold - Are you taking any vitamins or supplements?  I went to a Naturopathic Doctor.  She prescribed a bunch of different vitamins to promote hair growth.  I'm not sure if it helped, but I am taking a hair skin and nail formula (with biotin and borage seed) and some seaweed capsules (I think for the Iodine) and some other stuff.  She said they all work together for hair growth.  I am also using the Nioxin shampoo line.  Again, I don't know if this helped or if my hair growth is what would have happened without any of it, but at least it makes me feel like I am doing something for my hair.  Maybe checking it several times daily in the mirror or staring at it helps, because I do that lots too :)

Shoot Chelev, I'm 12 weeks pfc.........I have a flattop...hair is longer on the sides and back but the top resembles a flattop mans haircut....and it's coming in black and gray, I've never had black hair in my life!  I was on the taxol and read too that taxanes make your hair come in slow too.  GRRRRRRRR I don't have patience either, think I check mine like 5-6 times a day to see if anymore has grown...

Well off to rads for more measurements and films, Oh boy!

Thanks for your comments. I AM NOT ALONE!!!!!! I am going to check out the vitamins. I am day 3 with the Noxin I got the conditioner and the 45.00 serum. I use it twice a day. IT BURNS. I don't mind I think that means its working. I think that I am just jealous of the people that get that coarse hair that comes in all strong and sticking straight up and proud. Mine is more geriatric weak and soft and sparse. But hey its something. I was able to keep my eyelashes and brows. I am lucky on that one. And I am being cured from cancer!!! Thats a big one! So much to be grateful for and so much to bitch about I am confused and chubby. I think that I have to get thinner to really pull of that European crew cut I am looking forward to. So I figure I have about three months to lose about 800 pounds.

Bold - I have gained ten pounds in the last month.  My stomach sticks out farther than my non-boobs.  I am confused and chubby too!!!  WE are not alone.  Keeping your brows and lashes is huge!!  Congratulations.  That was worse than being bald, at least for me.

    Hi Springtime:

No....that's not it.  I wash my hair everyday when I take my shower.  It's just not coming out.  Also, on two separate occasions after the Carbo treatments, I've had tenderness of the scalp that I thought would be the beginning of the end for my hair, but alas.....it just goes away without my hair ever falling out.  It lasts a day or two and POOF, it's the discomfort is gone and my hair is still in my head.  It could be that I'm in that small percentage that doesn't lose their hair.  I dunno.  I've read on a couple of UK websites that some patients taking Taxol and Caboplatin keep their hair.  I guess we'll see eventually.  Laughing

    Hey nodapearl:

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about.  I've only gained about 2 lbs since I started tx, but I have a pot belly which I've never had.  I lost alot of weight when I was diagnosed (didn't eat much for 3 weeks) and if anything, I'm scrawny, but the belly is definitely there.  It seems my weight has been redistributed!  Very strange.  I mentioned it to my Onc and she said it was due to the steriods.  I also have a ridiculous appetite.  I eat everything that isn't nailed down!!  I should have gained more weight, but as I said, it seems to be redistributed to my belly.  I have the muffin top from hell.

Well ladies,,,,,,,,,,,,I am sooooooooo jealous of those of you with thick hair.  Guess I am the small percentage that their hair came back wayyyyyyyy thinner than it used to be. Figures.  Doing accupuncture for it and it seems to be filling in a little,,,,,but not a lot.  This is depressing.  I mean,,,,,,,,,,,,I'm two years out from chemo and one year out from Herceptin.  This is just so not fair.  Seeing my scalp is not a happy thing.  Haaaaaaaate it.  Has anyone heard that it takes this long or longer  to get all their hair back?  This is ridiculous.

Bold I know this is possibly a crazy thought but do you think hair growth has anything to do with your blood counts ??  I had a transfusion between 4 &5 (I think) and it was like my fuzz took off and then fell out after chemo but I was thinking (obsessing) about the lack of hair on my head.  Which btw, I have no right to obsess about yet because I am only 3 weeks out.

My blood count is great. So I don't know. I am on Herceptin which slows growth. This week should make a big difference.

Cindy: I would if I were you get extensions while I was waiting for the fill in. I have seen how wonderful it can work on thin hair. Just a thought. I hope that you can get the results that you need to truly move on with your life.

Cindy: A nurse at the hospital I go to had bc (5 years ago) and she said that the hair on the top of her head never came in that well. I would never guessed, but she has a piece of hair that is woven into her natural hair and it looks great! She said that there are places that specialize in this for people with Alopecia. Just a thought.... her hair looked awesome!

Bold: Hang in there! Give the Nioxin some time.... I think it is helping and after a while it does not burn anymore. I have been using it for about a month or so, 6 weeks PFC (TCH) today, and I have noticed more growth in the last week. I have about 1/8" - 1/4" of regrowth. I am also taking the Biotin vitamin. I believe Chelev takes it too. You are so lucky that you did not lose your eyebrows or eyelashes! I lost quite a few eyelashes, not all... and my eyebrows got very thin and vanished on the ends. I am seeing some regrowth on both now! So exciting! I too am on Herceptin.

Shadow38: It sounds as if you have all the se's and if your scalp hurt and no hair fell out, I think that you must have some strong hair follicles and that the chemo IS working! Mine started to come out 3 weeks after I started treatments. It was two days after my second one. You may be one of the lucky ones!

I gained about 7 lbs during treatments. Guess it was from the steriods they say. Chubby and confused is right!

Thanx ladies for the info.  I did go to the dermatologist and she said the stuff she prescribes,,,,,she cant give to cancer pts.  So she headed me in the direction of an accupuncturist.  I do see new lil hairs coming in,,,,,,,,but sure not what my hair used to be like. Maybe I need to give it more time?  Extensions huh?  That is worth checking into. Now how do those work?  As the hair grows out,,,,,do you have to have them taken out and new ones put in?   I take biotin every day too. You know,,,,,,,,I was one of those ladies that was obssessed about losing my hair,,,,,,,,,,maybe its payback for me being so worried about it.  Has anyone heard that it takes over a year to fill in all together?

    Thanx again ladies.

another quick question.  My dermatologist said if one uses Rogaine (and she said it works great) but the hairs that come in will fall out when u stop using it.  Does anyone know if Nioxin works the same way?

    Three months after last chemo

Hi Ladies I'm 14 weeks PFC and have about 1/4 inch grow out.  I tried a semi-perm blond color tonight but it didn't work.  Nothing.  I'm dirty dishwater, does that make a difference?

The photo is my hair two weeks ago.  I thought It was light enought to take a blond simi-perm.

Intersting comment about rogaine.   Has anyone tried horse shampoo?  Is any considering any special hair dye that has less chemicals in it?

Sorry the color did not take Renee.  Maybe if you go to a stylist he/she can get it to stick.

Beverly, I have done the Nioxin and the HorseShampoo and neither worked.  The Nioxin scalp treatment actually stung a little and turned my scalp blood red so I stopped using it. At 17 weeks PFC my hair is not quite 1/4 inch, but it is very thick.  The growth is just sooooo slow.

Chevlev, I looked at the ingredients on the Hair Restoration and I saw nothing spectacular.  They did have some trademarked ingredients so who knows what they might be.  Since my set was so cheap, I will let you know in a few weeks if it seems to be working.  They said to give it 5 to 7 weeks.  My patience on this topic is getting really low.

Cinrae, you have plenty of hair for extensions.  The extensions are actually glued to the base of your existing hair.  Extension hair is VERY expensive and so is the procedure so before you make an appointment, get references to make sure the stylist is VERY experienced in the procedure so you don't waste your money.  I just started to see an acupuncturist for my hot flashes and other post chemo symptoms, I will ask what he can do about slow hair growth.
