seq24, at first it was just white fuzz, which became a salt and pepper crew cut. And then within 1 week it went from straight to curly about a month ago. It was coming in way more gray than before and I felt really old so I used Herbatin in my natural color and feel much better!

Does anyone know if two rounds of A/C will make all my new growth fall out. I did a combo of A/C and Taxol for a couple of weeks then just Taxol. Started getting lots of white peach fuzz about six weeks ago before I was finished with Taxol. Finished that 4 weeks ago but had to do two more rounds of A/C the past two weeks to try to get my platelets up. It will just totally suck if it all falls out again. I hadn't done A/C alone so not sure how many rounds it takes for hair loss. Praying my platelets are up this week and I don't have to do a third round

I go to a female barber for my haircuts. She seems to work better with short hair and understands the different hairtextures.

Myra--thanks for the info. Mine is just so thin and patchy it worries me if it will every come back. Others have told me that 6 weeks PFC is too early. I take photos weekly to try to see the difference. There has been no real change in the last few weeks in my opinion. I think I would feel better if I could color mine, even through I wouldn't dare go in public without the wig, but at least when I'm running around the house bare headed, I might not be so afraid to look in the mirror. I assume Herbatin is a gentle hair color? I have not heard of it but will look for it. Could you tell me where to buy it?

My hair issues weren't caused by chemo but by AIs - lots of thinning, lots of hair in the shower drain every day. I started drinking Bone Broth and in less than 2 weeks the shedding has completely stopped. Maybe it would also help your hair grow faster/thicker.
You can buy bone broth powders but it's easy to make - large pot of water, pkg of marrow bones, pkg of chicken feet (eeeww) onion and whatever veggies you want to get rid of. Simmer forever (like overnight in a crockpot) Strain and enjoy.
I've been drinking about 6 oz 4 to 5 times a week. Makes a great soup base.
I found the recipe in a Paleo book by Terry Wahls. I think it's also in Deep Nutrition and of course all over the Internet.
I'm anxious to hear it it works for anyone else. Certainly can't hurt.

Lucky, does the bone broth taste OK? I've avoided it just based on my metal image! I don't even know where to get chicken feet! does it have to be the feet or could any other part work?

I've been making stock with chicken feet for a while. They're full of collagen, which makes for a very rich, gelatinous broth. I get them either in the local farmer's market, or at the butcher's. I've seen them in the supermarket, too. They look kind of gross, but they make a great soup.

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but I just saw bone broth at Costco the other day. I didn't really look at it closely because I wasn't sure what it really was. I wonder if the pre made kind would do the same thing as the home made.

Re bone broth. I've made it out of chicken necks, backs, wings. Super cheap but can't say I've used chicken feet. You strain it all off anyway so you're just left with the liquid. Defat and you're left with gelatinous broth. Not a ton of taste until you add salt IMHO but makes a great base for soup or gravey and you know exactly what's in it. Add a little apple cider vinigar too which draws out even more of the collagen apparently from the bones too.
Re hair, happy to report I'm feeling fuzz on previously smooth as a baby's butt areas! Yay! I don't now if it's time, Biotin, Nioxin, caster oil or what but I'll take it!

DaraB, I've never actually tried just drinking just the broth but it's probably a lot like beef bouillon. I make it into a soup. 6-8oz broth (I freeze it in ice cube trays) some extra water, cooked broccoli, cauliflower or carrots, heat on stove, blend well in vitamix and enjoy. I've also added hot sauce, coconut milk, turmeric. Whatever sounds good and healthy. It's very filling and helps me avoid snacks, not to mention adding the extra veggies to my diet.
My son (a personal trainer) did a lot of research on it. He said any bones could be used - lamb, chicken, beef, whatever, but like rainnyc said, chicken feet have a lot of collagen and I know that's good for bones, skin and nails so why not hair. I've found them at the local grocery store and organic ones at the farmer's market. I just wonder, what makes them organic Are they walking on organic grass? Tee hee. Probably any grocery store could order them for you. So, anyway, this above mentioned son was using the powder form and putting it in his coffee every morning (ugh) and he's the one who noticed his thinning hair was suddenly getting thicker so I jumped on the bandwagon too.

So if bone broth makes a great base for soups, why can't you just add veggies, seasoning, etc to give it flavor? Wouldn't it be the same but with more flavor?
And do certain bones have more mark or collagen? Why not just use a whole chicken (sorry, minus the feet?)

Of course, you can do all that! Vegetables have so much nutrition. The more you eat, the better. The first book I referenced, The Wahls Protocol, she talks about eating the cartilage off chicken legs. I think that's the book where I read you are supposed to simmer chicken bones until they pretty much disintegrate.
We started eating Paleo after reading that book and I was able to lose 45 pounds. Plus, I'm sure that's what helped me recover so quickly from surgery. It's only lately that I've been serious about having bone broth frequently and really noticed the difference in my hair.

Hi,
I am 5 weeks PFC. My skin where my eyebrows were has turned black. At first I was thinking that it is the hair from my eyebrows coming back. I can see some hairs already coming back but the color of my skin is so dark right where my eyebrows are/were. I can't seem to find any info about this online and hoping someone here has had a similar experience?

Gig- I have dark spots on my forehead and scalp.

After 6 decades of parting my hair on the right, it won't part there anymore. It nowparts naturally on the left. It hurts to try to part it on the right. I never loss all my hair due to gel cap therapy. I just find this strange. I wonder what I will discover next!

Coach Vicky, That is strange. Did you change your part between cap changes? I try to part mine on the opposite side of my normal part for every cap change. My normal part is sore right now.
Gig, I haven't heard of the eyebrow thing. Mine are still hanging in there, but thinner than normal. I keep waiting to wake up one morning and they'll be gone!

Gig - Before my eyebrows hairs came out I had the 5 o'clock shadow in the shape of my eyebrows. It wasn't black though. Yours is darker?

Seq24 Herbatint works really well without harsh chemicals, peroxide and bleach. It tints my hair dark and doesn't wash out like a temporary color.I found it on Amazon.

Thanks Myra! I will check it out. I can't imagine it would take much to cover the very little hair I have. I'm checking with oncologist tomorrow to see when it's safe to color it. If she says ok I will order some immediately. How long does one coloring last?

Almost 9 months PFC. I did get it cut a few weeks ago. I got it cut over my ears and some off the back. Barely trimmed the top.

I did not change the part when I wore the caps. That might have helped!!

Logang- Love your haircut! You can really rock the short hair. You look so lovely! It must feel good to feel a bit more normal now, I can not wait to be able to touch my head and run fingers through hair.

Thank you, Luckynumber for sharing this link with me and for the bone broth info.
I'm experiencing serious hair shedding and am soooo unhappy. I was doing really well moving on with my life post chemo and oops but now am regressing into my old poor me feelings. I'm feeling teary a lot which is not like me. Wow-- what an impact hair has on us women, huh? I wish it wasn't so. I should be grateful that my health is good not being miserable looking in the mirror.
Good info on the bone broth remedy. Are you seeing regrowth? If so. How long did it take to start regrowing? I'm getting the thyroid blood test tomorrow. Likely will rule that out as the culprit but I'm glad to check it. MO said to go off Letrozole for 2 weeks and if it helps, I will switch AIs. Thinking that if I start bone broth AND stop Letrozole, how how will I know which change worked? I'm rubbing essential oil in my scalp at night, too. Suggestions?
Thanks for listening.

Boy, Shelly, can I relate to the pity parties! I think it's just all part of the emotional healing process. 2 steps forward, one back. I had a few tough days last week but I'm past it now. Most days are good days for me so I know I'm getting better. My goal today is not saying anything about cancer for the whole day. (Posting here doesn't count)
Don't do anything against your Drs advice, but if it were me, I'd keep taking your AI for a while longer and give the bone broth a shot. I feel like it can't hurt. I have enough hair that I wouldn't see regrowth, but my very short haired son, who had noticeably thinning hair said he can definitely see it thickening. Maybe we can start selling bone broth to balding men and make our fortune!

So I guess it's beginning .... today I started with hair loss I guess. Hair coming out two, three, four or five if I run my fingers through my hair. Even a few on my pillow. Taxol with herceptin number three of 12 weekly tomorrow.
When did you know to just go with the real cut close haircut. Does it accelerate quickly on Taxol when it's starts falling out?

Hi Daniell, I think it's a bit different for everyone but I suggest that you will know when its time. For me there was really no choice. It began coming out in clumps. I didn't shave mine until the very end - - because i dreaded it so much. But - - when the obvious time came it was during a shower. I finished my shower, went over to the sink and just started cutting. I have a shaver that I used on my son. As much as I dreaded it, by that time I felt a little relieved to get it over with. I wore cotton hats or my wig from then on. I really did get used to it and even liked how quickly I could get ready in the morning. I really hate that you are having to go through this. It really stinks. No doubt about it.
Daniell- you WILL get through it and be amazed how strong you really are. Good thing is that taxol is pretty tolerable. It was for me. Wishing you all the best. Hugs to you. ~ Shelly

Hi Daniell, I shaved my head on the day of weekly Taxol #4. It had been falling out a bit before then, but I went to the bathroom while I was getting the infusion and noticed the whole back of my sweater was covered in hair, so I didn't really have a choice at that point.
The good news is - this is my hair today. I finished chemo on May 27, 2015.

I just need some feedback from all of you who have grown your hair back. I know I read on one of these boards somewhere that hair grows back white/grey then changes to the normal color. I am 7 weeks PFC and my hair is coming back. Still pretty thin and patchy and very grey. Not happy about that at all. I saw the MO yesterday. I mentioned what I read on here about hair returning to the normal color if it is grey or white at first. She said that is not true but that I could color it whenever I want. I saw my hair dresser today and she determined that my hair was 75% grey. I am heartbroken over that. I maybe had less than 1% grey before. What are your thoughts on the grey being permanent or reverting back to the normal color. It started out as white fuzz in the beginning. Now it's the awful grey. I'm not old enough to even have a tenth of it.

Molly - - I have hair envy. Yours is beautiful!
Seq24I have heard from many women that their hair comes in a different color and then changes. Also the texture changes either from curly to straight or vice versa. It's a crap shoot. My hair stylist confirmed that. She even had a client who was all grey before chemo and her hair came back in her natural color! It stayed that way for about a year and then the gray came back. For me, I had colored my hair before I lost it so who really knows what it looked like? I began coloring it again approx six months PFC.

Logang - Looking great!
Molly - I can't wait til my hair is like yours! Thanks for posting.
