Jamieh - I used Herbatint to try to cover the gray in the ostritch hair I have, and it did give me a more pronounced 5 o'clock shadow look, plus tinted most of the hairs, some of the very stubborn grays refuse to cooperate!  Also found Anastacia brow color like Lisa mentioned, it's like a mascara and darkens the hairs.  Got that at Ulta.  Talked with the esthetician there and we looked at my eyebrow growth, they are really coming in - so I will be ready for a shaping this week.  yipeee!!  But, don't see much in the way of additonal growth on the head.  Even with this steambath we're in here in Florida (Lisa is right, it is so horribly hot and humidity in double digits, you go out for five minutes, you are not only sweating but it ignites the hot flashes in seconds, a real pain if you are wearing a bandana or hat!!!), and I thought heat encourages hair to grow, nothing seems to have budged this week.  Or, maybe I'm staring at it so much that I don't see it.  It was funny, the checkout girl at Ulta handed me a coupon good for 30% off my next cut, color or highlight.  I asked her it would be good say in December or January?  She didn't even realize I was wearing a bandana until I pointed out that right now, I don't have enough of anything to cut, color or highlight.

Kathleen - haven't had any facial hair growing, except for the brows, which are right now are getting kind of thick and unruly looking - can't wait to get them shaped!  Is it all over your face, or just in the upper lip / chin area?

Happy Sunday, my bald, beautifully curved (instead of chunky?) sisters!

Ok...I need to vent!  I have come to grips with my wieght...and actually am ok with it, until my ex/bf/whatever....tells me he thinks I look better in a bikini at my lower weight (which is only about 5 pounds)..He has paid for a trainer for me, bought me a gym membership....he goes everyday at least 5 times a week!  I am soooo depressed with having no hair...I dont need his imput!!!  Last night I drank a whole bottle of wine all by myself...and if there was another one here I would be drinking it now!

    Hi Deen,

Your hair will come.  I had my last chemo end of September 08 and it is coming back very rapidly and it is curly.  Had poker straight hair.  I can not believe it.  But, once it starts it comes.  So does the shaving the legs and pits , the plucking eyebrows, and chin hairs,  but I love it, I am alive again.  Good luck to you !!!!!!!

    Smile,

Give it a chance.  When did you finish chemo.  It will start to  come back fuzzy,  but soon fills in and just keeps coming.  Don't give up.  I will pray for you.

My head hair came back first. Suddenly about 3 months post chemo I had arm hair again. In retrospect I've realized how nice it was to not have it during chemo because sometimes now when they do a blood test and tape a cotton ball on afterwards, the arm hair gets pulled when I take it off. My leg hair came back around the same time, but I never shave it. My DH agrees because he doesn't like the stubble when it has been shaved and starts to grow back.

At first the hair seemed to be coming back faster on the sides of my head than the top but that was mostly because the hair on the sides lies flat which gives more coverage while the hair on top started out standing up. I'm 4 months out now and it is pretty evenly covered except a little thinner at the temples. People keep telling me how good it looks and this weekend some people who didn't know I had chemo thought it was just the style I had - but I'm not sure I believe them. It looks okay to me, much better than bald, but not a look that I would ever chose. It's about a half inch long now. Once it gets another inch, I think it will look good.

My under arms and nether regions are slowest to get it growing back.

What hair I have is having a very unruly day - it is sticking out all over like I stuck my finger in a light socket. And oh the grey!!!!! The fancy shampoo that is supossed to make the hair grow faster has stripped out all the semi-perm color.  Dammit.

And the air temp in SE Fla is 100 and the heat index 110 - this is miserable.....

I am so far behind on this thread!  I just read 4 pages to catch up with ya'll.  I have no excuse other than a lack of patience for these pages to load up and I have high speed connection.

Lisa - you made me laugh with FCWW.  I have gained 13 lbs since I started chemo.  I was a size 4 and am now a size 8.  Nothing fits but my fat pants (anything with an elastic waist).

I have started walking 2 miles a day but it doesn't help if I come home and have a huge bowl of chocolate ice cream - I am 3 weeks PFC but still have food cravings.  They are so bad I think I am still on steroids.

I am getting so frustrated with my hair.  My hubby asked me why all of a sudden now I am obsessed with getting my hair back and I can only think is that before I was so sick during chemo that I could have cared less.  Now that I am feeling good, I want to look good.

As far as what I have - just keep looking at Jaimieh's pictures and I look EXACTLY like her!

I can't wait until it gets long enough so I can put some color in it.  Right now it looks like when I was born - PURE WHITE!  As white as a bride's dress.  At least if I had some color it might look like I had more hair but I don't think it is even 1/4 long yet but I shouldn't complain since I am only 3 weeks PFC.  It seems like I finished chemo months ago and I have to remember patience!

I have a lumpectomy scheduled for Wednesday.  Looking forward to completing another stage of this fight against my cancer!

Even though I might not respond much these days, I am reading up on ya'll and am enjoying reading about your individual journeys so keep on posting!

I have no idea why my last post wnet up 3 times.  I deleted two of them.

Nice to hear from  you Janice.  Glad you are getting your strength back.  I am in the same weight canoe as you.  I was about a size 2 and now I am a 6, which may sound fine to some, but I have an exceptionally small frame and it is not carrying the additional 17 pounds well.  Also, I am very sensitive about my weight.  I was fat in highschool and lost 50 pounds in my first semester of college and never looked back until now.  I don't much care for the "waddle" look.

I have to run but before I do I have to tell you what a "blonde/chemo brain moment" I had yesterday that cracked me up! The barn where I had my horse has closed due to a pyscho ex-wife of the barn owner.  That is a long story and really not revelant other than I have to move my horse tomorrow.

So....I went and looked at this horse facility yesterday and LOVE it other than the fact I now have a 1 hour commute to see my horse.  I asked this new barn owner all sorts of questions but when you have chemo brain you forget some of the pertinent questions to ask.  So after I got home I called him and said...

Hi Dennis, this is Jancie, the blonde that was at your facility an hour ago.

Okaaaayyyyy....I am bald.  I had never met the guy before so how in the world is he going to associate my name and the person with blonde hair?  Besides the fact he saw that I was bald.

I started laughing so hard and said "now how could you have known I had blonde hair before I became bald.  I swear my hair used to be blonde!"

He and I laughed so hard.  I came home and told my husband what I said and even he was laughing so hard.

Blake1960 - I didn't like the fuzzy-face look, either.  I did have it waxed.  A lot of other women on the site said it just goes away by itself.  I didn't want to wait.  It was a tad more painful than having my brows waxed, though.  I asked about getting my legs waxed, but they said I should let the hair grow out a couple of weeks, so there was something for the wax to grab onto - I don't think so.  The hair on my legs grows like weeds.  I honestly think it is growing so fast I could shave it twice a day.

Smile: ok, that belongs under the worst thing someone said to you thread.  cyber smacks to the exbf for what was really a mean thing to say to someone going through this.  That said, take the money he spent on it and run.  Excercise is good for us after breast cancer, take it and use it in spite of him

Janice, a lot of us feel that way.  We're tired of the experience want it over and our hair back.  We can't do anything about the changes in the rest of our body, they're permanent, but hair is reversible and we want it back. Plus, when bald at least you get some sympathy, I got some very angry looks with my growing in hair, and people would turn in the street and stare at me.  They think we're doing it on purpose (everyone knows bald isn't a choice) and it gets very severe reactions out of some people.  Just read your other post, thanks for the laugh of the day

Jane My Onc said to leave it alone, but it sure is hanging around a lot longer then she said it would

Morning, ladies.  Well, had my consult with the dermatologist about the Latisse, and after hearing how expensive it is (isn't that why they write a prescription???), $140.00 for the first treatment, and that if you stop using it, your lashes go back to where they were when you started (uh, no . . I want them to grow back, not grow and fall out again!), plus the deal with light eyes (mine are blue) that can go dark if you happen to get it in your eyes, made the decision for me to just wait it out.  Unhappily, but I will do it.

kmmd - I can't believe people gave you angry looks at having uber short hair.  That's just nuts!  when wearing the bandana, I either get the "oh, you poor thing pity" look or a double take, like what is wrong with her head? look.  Or, some don't even notice - like the girl at Ulta.

chelev  - That is a lot of many for eye lashes.  It would be one thing if you just had crappy eyelashes, but yours will come back.   Mine came  back pretty fast actually.

Today is 19 weeks PFC and I think my hair has stopped growing.  Instead it is starting to stick out in a very disgusting, unmanagable fashion.  This is getting sooo old.........

Hey: Well my hair is starting to grow in more places. I used some brow darkener to fill in a bit. It was fun to see in the mirror. I would not go out in public quit yet maybe next year. I jest! I am so looking forward to the next few months I think that with my make-up on and big earrings that I can pull it off maybe be down right chic. The wigs bother me more now that I have a wisp of hair. Its the itchy and Scratchy show!  I am still patch and still look like the guy from six flags. But now I am 1 1/2 flags.

Hang in there everyone. Good things are happening.

Hello Ladies! I don't know how those of you in Florida can take it. It is very humid even here! Supposed to be in the low 90's tomorrow...yuck! Humidity and hot flashes do not go together.

Chelev: It is like white fuzzy hair along the jawline and chin... weird. I am going to need to get it waxed. Congrats on the eyebrow shaping! A step towards normality! Yeah! I did not know that about Latisse. I am not going to use it if when you stop you'll lose them again! Oh no.....

Jane_M: How long did they say it took for the fuzzy face hairs to fall out? Wonder why that happens?

I may be going next week to get my hair colored and a trim! So exciting!

I had a consult in regards to the Latisse today...I have always had short, thin eyelashes...so I am going to give it a try.  My exbf is funding that one (he should after his comment), but I look like GI Jane....very soft stuble all over filling in.  Cant wait for it to grow in length..straight, curly whatever as long as it grows.  BOLD I agree...my wig is starting to itch from my hair growth, but I am not brave enough to go without a wig or a buff....

I am having issues with my radiation!  You can see the area in which it is treating, becoming red and very irrated ( Just in time for my trip to the tropics next week ) I am a bag of tears these days..considering calling the onc tomorrow about anti-depressents...that was another complaint of my exbf.  He is tired of getting the sad me...I am strong all day at work so when I get home I am a bag of tears...its bringing him down too...the POOR MAN!

Sorry..went on forever this time, hopefully happy days are in the near future for ALL OF US!

All right I am depressed :(  I am going to have to cancel my hair appt. on Wed.  There is a little bit on my neck that needs to be trimmed but otherwise there isn't enought to get it cut.  I didn't expect to have too much but a little that isn't white would make me happy.  Oh in other depressing news when I was showering today I realized I need to shave my underarm :(  Not exactly where I want to see hair first :(

Just thought I would jump in here on Latisse.  I have been using it since I started Chemo in April.  I am still using the same little bottle, it lasts a lot longer than you would think.  It comes with a package of brushes that you are supposed to use (one per eye) and then throw away.  I have used the same brush on both of my eyes; after all, I use the same eyeliner, mascara, etc. on both eyes, so I figured I wouldn't be contaminating from one eye to the other anymore than usual.

Unfortunately I didn't save the paperwork, but it seems like it said that Latisse could darken eye color in brown eyes..... Mine are green, and I haven't seen any change.  Anyway, as far as results, my eyelashes are definitely longer than they have ever been, but I have lost some of them, and they are thinner.  I don't think if you stopped using it, your eyelashes would fall out again, I think they would just go back to their original length and thickness.

I paid $236.00 for two packages at my plastic surgeon's office.  So far, it doesn't seem like I'm going to run out of the first bottle for awhile.........I'll just switch to an eyeliner brush if I run out of brushes. Just like I thought it was worth spending $$ for a wig, I thought it was worth a try to hang onto my eyelashes!  If they all fall out, I'll just quit using the Latisse, and use it when they start growing back in.

Just my 2 cents worth!         Linda

I have been going bald now for about a week.  I have encountered some stupid reactions from people, but for the most part people want to touch my hair.  I don't have much trust me, and right now it sort of looks like a deformed mowhawk, but there is hair there.  Gosh, what is it with the touching??

Jess, its like the pregnant stomach.  However, have to say, with everything we've been through the swing flu thing would make me pretty assertive in saying no.  Our local hospital is full of cases.  The media has dropped it as a ho hum, but its still going on

kmmd - it really is.  I can't believe the looks some people get - okay, I realize that you normally don't see women without hair, but with the number of men who are bald or have super short cuts, you'd think it would be not so newsworthy.  As far as touching the head, yeah, it's along the lines of the pregnant stomach - some people are just compelled to reach out and rub the fuzz.  Maybe we should keep a stash of rubber gloves ready to give to someone who wants to reach out and touch someone?

Linda - I am doing the exact same thing with the Latisse.  Using the same brush, it seems to last a while.  Also have put it on my brows, seems to help there too.  going to get my brows waxed next week.  At 7 weeks PFC, I could wear mascara!!!
