Susan, you have so much hair and it looks good!  I can't believe you're still able to tolerate the wig.

I have to admit, I'm really loving my short hair.  It's still so short but at the point where people don't know if I got it cut this way or if it's growing back in.  I'm keeping it short until I get tired of it.  The silver is starting to become more predominant again so I am going to color it again next weekend.  I got another pkg of "Naturtint" from Whole Foods.  They actually had it on sale! This Thursday will be 16 wks post chemo. I'm just so happy to be alive and feeling better day by day.  I'll take the hair I'm getting!

    Right on, Lainey!

Susan, I agree with Lainey - you have beautiful hair - ditch the wig!!!

I've got the world's shortest bangs right now - you can actually see my hairline where the bangs will start growing more, and getting more definition around the hairline.  Now . . if the rest of it will fill in!

Wearing my wig to work, but not loving it - hopefully the hairy fairy will visit me to stay!

Oh, bangs are what I really want!  If I don't grow some fast, I might opt for some Botox! j/k but seriously, I never knew I had so many lines on my forehead!

I just snapped a pic of myself - 16 wks this Thursay PFC!

thanks, Jess LOL!  how is your hair coming?  my DH keeps commenting how fast mine is coming in.....but i'm not happy yet!  keep in mind, he's balding so he thinks its amazing to grow hair from a bald head LOL!!!!!!!

Lisa, I agree, my DH is about 1/2 bald, and he is so encouraging about my growth.  When I complain too much he reminds me that mine WILL come back.   That shuts me up for a while!

As of this evening, I have a definate wave pattern going on.  If this "wave" turns into the curls from hell, I will not be happy, but I will deal with it.

Lisalisa---That is too funny- hair growing from bald head!!!  I am having a deep chuckle over that one and of course dh has to come by and look over my shoulder!  LOL!

My hair is still quite short.  I can grab it a bit with my fingers., and have been going without a hat or a wig for about two weeks.  It looks pretty much like a man's balding head and it is very white and gray.  I am debating whether or not to dye it.

omg,,,,,,,,,,I am sooooooooo jealous.  Here I am two years out from chemo, and one year out from herceptin,,,,,,,,,,,and sure the hair has grown,,,,,but not nearly as filled in as you all. Sad when in the sun you can see my scalp. Im just so preplexed about this.  Is it pay back for me because I was sick to death about the fact of losing my hair in the first place? Ive had all kinds of tests done and my thyroid and b12 and everything is fine,,,,,,,,what could be wrong?  Ive been doing accupuncture and taking my biotin,,,,,,,and it has filled in a little,,,,,,just a little,,,,,,but nothing like it used to be.  I wonder if not taking estrogen could attribute to it? I miss my estrogen big time........these hot flashes are the pits too. This is depressing............but great for you all.  Jeeze,,,,,,,,,,,whats everyones secret?

Jess, I had planned to start going hatless on my last day of rads (which is tomorrow) but did it about 10 days ago because I suddenly just had to have it colored!  seriously I read about some salon near the hospital where I'm treated.  I called, they had a cancellation and I was in there the very next day.  It was probably too short, but once it was colored, I ditched the hats!

I think I'll have fun with my hair as it grows out....lots of styles, lots of colors, why not!?!?

Cinrae- have you tried biotin?  I get mine at whole foods.  I can look up the strength and more info if you like.  My hair has always grown very fast and I used to complain about that (more haircuts, more highlights, etc.)   So, now I'm pleased.

What chemo drugs did you take?  what does your onc say?  I'm so sorry that you're upset!  I would be too!

Lisa,,,,,,,,,,o yeah I've been taking Biotin for a loooooooong time,,,,,,,,,,,5000 a day.  My onc just said,,,,,,,,,,I dont know. She headed me to a dermatologist,,,,,,,,,and my dermatologist gives this medication to people with my problem but she doesnt give it to cancer patients. Figures huh? Then the dermatologist headed me to a accupuncture gal. So ive been doing that for a couple of months now.  It has filled in somewhat,,,,,,,but absolutely nothing like it used to be.  Depending on the light,,,,,,when I have my picture taken you can see my scalp.  Specially during the day when I'm out in the sun,,,,,,,its so thin and scalp scalp and more scalp.   I did taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin.  I just get so bummed out.  My accu lady says to be patient as my body has gone thru a lot of stuff............but not so easy to do,,,,,,,,,easy for people to say that when they dont have this problem.  Sorry for venting,,,,,,,,,its just getting really upsetting.  Specially when I see you gals hair and its so full.

Cindy, give the accupuncture more time.  It takes 4 to 16 weeks for the hair to grow from the root to the surface, then you need to allow time for that hair to actually get long enough to offer coverage.  I think you are on to something about lacking estrogen.  I do wonder what other problems we are causing by supressing a very vital hormone.  It scares me sometimes.  I still have 5 more herceptin treatments to go, so I know I should not expect to feel "on top", but I think the lack of estrogen is having some very permanent effects on my skin, lack of energy and joints.

Lisa, I think you are right on about the estrogen link - we are going to be or already are surpressing a hormone that occurs naturally, except for some of us, went on a wild rampage out of control in our breasts.  I'm very nervous about starting any AI's, and am meeting with my doctor this week to discuss.  Mostly nervous about the se's, and how they could affect my quality of life, work, etc.  I know my skin was much much drier looking the first time I went through menopause, and now that I'm off HRT since February, and the flashes have started, I will be again dealing with slightly thinner hair (like I need that now) and drier skin.  Been taking very good care of my skin since starting chemo, to counter any bad effects it may have had, and I think I've got a good regime down now.

Anyway, on the hair front, it's definitely starting to get longer, and slowly fill in.  It could be a cute, very chic super super short hair style, if my scalp weren't showing so much.  Still need a bit more to fill in, and then the wigs are gone, but will still need coverage from the sun.  The front area around my hairline is really moving along, but the left side, where the folliculitis was so bad seems to be taking it's time.  Kind of lopsided with filling in.  When I put the nioxin on, I can almost get the ostritch hairs to lay down.  Some of them are long enough to start laying down.  10 weeks pfc on Thursday.  I'm taking biotin daily, and have started on my antioxidants now that I am done with rads - C, E, Zinc, etc.  plus added fish oil caps and vitamin D.  Definitely feeling good, anyway - energy level is coming up now that I'm done with rads.

CINRAE123:   Cindy, I am in the same boat as you.  I am 6 months PFC and my scalp can be seen also.  I have to add here, though,  -  I had very thin hair on top, front and sides before treatment  -  (never a problem whatsoever with the back  -  go figure)  -  but I felt so assured and secure that after being bald, the hair would come in nice and thick like it does for most peeps, I soooooo looked forward to that, but obviously that didn't happen for me.

So, I know how you feel, Cindy.  For me, it is quite discouraging  -  I try so very hard to be patient and grateful for the fact that I'm now cancer free, and all else that I should be grateful for.  But there are days when I just get overwhelmed and can't help but complain and wonder why my hair is as crappy as it was before.  Oh well, I guess we are entitled to bitch and moan sometimes  -  at least there are alot of days where I just chalk it off as, IT IS WHAT IT IS.

I am still wearing the wig - (sometimes I get brave and wear a baseball cap) but with the hot weather starting, I don't know how much more I can handle that. I probably should go to the beauty salon and get what I have shaped into a style - maybe then it wouldn't look so bad???

But ladies, for the most part, everyone here seems to be doing well  -  we each have our own 'complaints' to bitch about.  But that's all so normal.  This is great that we can all vent and everyone that reads our 'venting sessions' can sooooo relate  -  we are all in the same boat - we'll all keep afloat!!!!!

I am going to post a pic of myself, as is, a little later today.  Happy hair day everyone!!!!

    Keep growing,

    Maggie

Pinkmama,   I see you are a professional hair person!

Can you recommend a good shampoo that doesn't have bad stuff in it? I was hoping for something without pabens and sodium lauryel sulfate or whatever it is.

Something that also did not wash out my henna too fast would be the bomb!

    Your advice appreciated!!!

Okay, ladies, here's the pic I warned you about - lol!!!!!!!   This is me 'as is'  -  6 months PFC  - not too much on top or sides  -  I have an appt. for a 'shape-up/style' for tomorrow  -  I'm soooo hoping it will turn out good so that maybe I can muster up a little nerve to go wigless!!!???!!!  I'm gonna give it my best shot!!!

Have a great day ladies!!!!!   Smile

Maggie, I'd kill to have that much hair! And forget what other people think, you've been through enough.  Why should we worry about what we look like, it's not our fault we had this horrible disease that's ruined everything in our lives..why should it ruin your day by having to wear a wig? Don't let it!

    Hugs

I know I'll probably regret it, but I WANT CURLS.  I don't care if they are unruly.  I don't care if I look like orphan annie.  I'd be happy looking like this:
