seq, docmama,& serenity you hair looks amazing!

Thinking of trying the viviscal or Toppik that was recommended here. Anybody have first hand experiences with these? The Toppik brand seems to have better reviews on Amazon.

So, I've been going to yoga classes BARE headed! No more bandanas. That's a very safe environment for me- mostly women and they know what I've been going thru and have been very supportive and encouraging.

Also went to dinner last week with a friend to a place that was too nice to wear a casual cap, so I BARE headed that too! I felt the looks, felt like I look like a cancer patient, but thankfully I didn't see anyone I know there so that made it a little more bearable.(pun intended)

Slowly making the transition, but hoping maybe one of those products could help fill in the bare scalp areas to make me feel less self conscious .

    Trying to stay patient!!

Canadian Girl, I had my last Chemo around Oct 16 2015, i shaved off the whisps of hair for a job interview on Oct 26??? Can't remember now.. I was bald at Christmas, but when we flew to Arizona in Mar 2016 I had about 1.5 -2 inches of salt and pepper hair. It will come.. I know how hard it is to wait for it.. Today is the second anniversary of my first chemo treatment, and my youngest brothers 43rd Birthday. I hope that someday i disassociate the two. In the meantime I have about 6 inches of hair. I've had few trims and can ALMOST get it into a french braid that will stay tucked in.. the curls are far tighter than they were pre chemo so it's an adjustment... Still though... happy to have hair to B**ch about :-)

Hey CanadianGirl, I am also Canadian and we are on the same treatment path. My last treatment was Aug 1. I also had hair growth between the FEC and docetaxol. I am also pretty bald right now :). Best of luck to you tomorrow. I am looking forward to the day I don't see Gollum when I look in the mirror

So glad to see the pictures of hair growth. I am still taking Herceptin and I don't know if that slows the growth or not. My hair is quite thick covering my scalp but it doesn't seem to grow longer, just thicker. I guess everything will catch up in the end. I am glad to have hair growing.

it seems to vary a lot by person. My hair is 2-3 inches to the extent it's been growing, but 9 months post-TCHP it remains conspicuously sparse on the top (very), plus the back & sides.

Will see if going off Herceptin later this month and improving anemia levels may give it a boost in time. I added Biotin, can't tell if it's helping yet.

If anyone else was on such a slow path and had a good result ultimately, that would be encouraging to hear.

Last chemo for me was 5/4/16...last Herceptin infusion was 1/13/17. My hair was VERY slow growing until I stopped the Herceptin treatments. It's growing like a weed now! :) I have had it trimmed several times to keep it looking like an intentional pixie, but am now growing it out and it's making me a little crazy at the moment. I try to focus on fact that I would have done anything for crazy hair a year ago.

libry-- I did not shave my head. Just couldn't bring myself to do it. As it turns out I did not lose all of my hair during chemo. Most of it but not all. And it started growing back about halfway through taxol. It came in white and fuzzy to start with except for the stripe of my old hair across the back of my head. It eventually changed back to my normal hair color and I now have about about 2 inches of hair. I have had a slight trim and one real haircut. I do not like my hair this short but at least my head is covered. I started posting pictures on here once I didn't have anymore bald spots. You can scroll back and see them if you want. Good luck to you!

This is my hair growth post AC-T, finished 6-15 photos are in order 5,7 and 9 weeks(yesterday). It's about 1/2-3/4 inch all over but longer in the back, it started growing there first. Now that it has started growing it's really coming in fast. It always grew fast so hopefully it will keep on. image

Hi all, I'm getting my head shaved next Wednesday and it makes me sad. I have really nice hair! In the grand scheme of this nightmare of a disease I m ok with losing my hair, but I will mourn it. It's just so weird to me that if I didn't lose it, no one would even know about the cancer.

The irony is I'm anything but a girly girl - I tie my long hair up all the time and can forget to comb it😀. When I wear the wig it will be the most styled hair I've ever had!

HapB, I think it has a lot to do with what chemo drug you had, even if you stop early. I think I would have lost my hair with my regime even if I would have stopped at the beginning. It will come, slowly but surely it will come. Someone on this site said do take pics every so often, I would think no sooner than once a week. When I started doing that I could really tell the progress, no matter how little at first. The original mix of white hairs really made it hard to see progress, I used a Demi color on mine last week and could see each hair better and it was much thicker than I thought it was. I only had about 15% grey hair before so this is going to be interesting. Happy hair growth to everyone!!

VL22 - its ok to mourn your hair, and yes it is like yelling out Here I am and I have cancer! Mine is starting to grow back and it is just covering my head with color. Sometimes I think about not wearing a scarf/hat/wig and just go out with my little bit of hair like I did this hair cut on purpose and I am not a cancer victim. Yes, in the 'grand scheme of this nightmare' you are more than just your hair and your hair will grow back, stay positive! Actually, I am kind of liking the short hair, it's a lot easier and cooler. I live in Florida and it is hot and muggy, I may keep it short-not this short thought!

HapB: I use nioxin #4 shampoo , conditioner and scalp tberapy

And I mixed coconut oil jojoba oil and castor oil and I use it almost everyday I don't know if that help or not

For many I think it can take a couple of months for the heavy chemo drugs to ease out of your system and let things start to restore.

As far as one chemo treatment and hair loss, isn't it the treatment that usually takes the trick after a 2-3 week lag? I was ready for it to be buzzed off and go for the wig. So far as I ever read, the additional chemo treatments just extend/worsen the process but it's the first one or maybe two that kills out the hair cells. Which can be a good sign as it shows the chemo working on fast-growing cells. (~something like that, of course ask your doctor and other experts as always~)

I talked with one of the lawsuit lawyers.

They would not consider me because my "permanent" hair loss was not on my head.

The guy was nice and apologized but said his law group was limiting their focus.

I'd be thrilled with that, seq24, I usually wear mine shorter than that! I was probably 35-40% gray before, (hard to tell exactly because I colored it,) so my fear is that it will be gray, and will take even longer to tell I have any hair at all. Whatever it comes in like, I do know I'll take the opportunity to stop coloring it

Hap, I still use the Nioxin 4 shampoo and conditioner. You might try using coconut oil or Jamaican Black castor oil on your hair at night, put a soft cap on overnight, and then wash in the morning. The chemicals in chemo do take quite a while to work out of our hair and the natural oils in castor oil and coconut oil help without dryness. I lost every hair on my body and as soon as I finished I started using the Jamaican Black Castor Oil (got it on Amazon). Good luck and hang in there!

Nioxin also makes an Intensive Therapy hair mask, I use the Nioxin Hair Regrowth Treatment and it's also drying so I use the mask once a week or so. It's good to use in addition to the Nioxin shampoo systems as well. I alternated the mask and coconut oil but didn't like the oil so much once my hair started growing.

ARRRGH! It looks like I'm losing my eyebrows again. Shocked

I know some of you have gone through this second "shed." Did you lose your brows completely or did they simply thin out a bit before regrowth began? Thanks!

I'm not sure what others have experienced, but mine have only thinned a little. My experience might be different because when my brows came in the first time, I manually thinned them. Once they were mostly in I plucked out about 5-10 each day. I did this for about 10 days. I hoped that this would force them to stagger their growth cycle quickly. It seems to have worked.

    That is brilliant Laura!

I have not had a second shed of my brows or lashes (at least not yet) so I can't really speak to that. WE will see what happens.
