Hi everyone, I would just like to add something about Nioxin. I worked with Wella, the distributing company, for years and I'm also a hairstylist Nioxin is great and so are the Hair Systems, they are designed to keep the hair and scalp healthy and to make the hair you have "fluffy" and/or appear denser. They have a combination of systems for Color or non Color treated, and Noticably Thinning or Notmal to Thin Looking hair. However, the only product that has the "medicinal" qualities that can help with the actual hair regrowth is Nioxin Regrowth Treatment. They have two formulas, one for Women(2%) and one for Men(5%) and it's applied twice a day. The active ingredient is minoxidil and it's the only Nioxin product that has that ingredient. Just thought I'd put that out there, and there's a lot more to it but that's the jist of it. There are so many products out there and it can't be so confusing and expensive!! Hope this helps:):)
Happy Hair Growing Everyone!!!

HapB, where are you in your hair journey? Lol
I'm in early re growing stage, just finished AC-T 4 1/2 weeks ago and have just started to see stubble and I still have a very tiny bit of hair that didnt fall out and grew while doing chemo, maybe 2%. It was crazy thick before though. It's very dry feeling and I use coconut and castor oil just like the posters said above. I mix them and slightly warm them because the castor oil is so thick and use it 1-2 times a week or try to at least. When possible put a plastic cap over it and leave all day when you can. 20 mins is good too. It's good for the scalp, hair follicle, and hair. Hope this helps:):).

Just finished my last round of TC yesterday. YAY! I had a very unsuccessful experience with Penquin Cold Caps. I lost about 90% of my hair. Any suggestions on what to do for hair regrowth is helpful. I'm already taking Biotin and Silica. Do I need to add Viviscal? Niocin? Or should I just see what happens and be patient. This is my second go round with chemo so I'm not very patient.

rdsm--I started using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner starting about the middle of chemo. I'm not sure if it helped at all because the doctors and nurses all told me it takes several weeks for the chemo to get our of our bodies. I also started taking a hair skin and nails supplement, using Jamaican black castor oil and Rogaine and didn't see any real growth until many weeks after chemo. I think the thing we have to have the most of is patience and I for one do not have much of that at this stage of the game. I've had quite enough of everything. Friday will be 26 weeks since my last chemo and Saturday is the one year anniversary of diagnosis. My hair is about 2 inches long now and today I had my first real haircut in more than a year. I'm trying to have it look somewhat like a style rather than a sticking out mess like it seems to be. Not sure if I was successful. It still sticks out and still looks like a boy haircut.
Best wishes to you!

HapB...You made me giggle out loud with the greasy spaghetti comment. I am only at my 3rd chemo with 5 more to go so I've got some time to go with this stubly head. I look like my 12 month portrait. I had peach fuzz for a long time. Everyone is curious if it will grow back the same color. I don"t know how not to be a redhead.

KB Nice growth! The back of your hair is so even. I am 23 weeks PFC and mine is at most 1.5 inch long. Funny thing is the part where my hair was the thickest before chemo is the thinnest now with a lot of stubbles that do not seem to grow! Other than that part, the rest are getting more volume.

KB--Love those curls! I was hoping for some myself and I only have a little wave in the back, tiny curls at my neckline and the rest is straight. I went in for a trim the other day. My hair was a good 2 inches long everywhere except the top which might have been 1.5 inches. I asked to only have a TINY bit trimmed off to start shaping it into some kind of style. I came out of there with more than a little trimmed off and I look pretty much like my husband when he comes home from the barber shop. This is such a boy's haircut and I am very unhappy. She said she just trimmed a little but then she showed me the pile of hair she cut off and it was about as much a when I had a haircut before cancer when my hair was shoulder length. Then she tells her next client "this is her first real haircut since her cancer". I've tried really hard to keep this private and the person she told has probably told the whole town by now. Today is our 32nd wedding anniversary. We went to dinner tonight. We made sure to sit in the back corner so nobody would have to look at me.

I am so sorry of your unhappiness with your cut. I am most angry about the violation of your privacy.
I would report the person to her supervisor or the owner of the shop. Her remark was uncalled for.

I am 10 months PFC and my hair is only about the length of KBs. Before chemo I had almost waist length very full hair. Mine is so thin now but I am just thrilled I don't need to wear a wig and haven't since the stubble was about an inch long. Hopefully some day it will fill in and grow a little faster. :-) I just started using the Nioxin to make it look fuller. I would love nicer, fuller, longer hair but have to remember that my hair didn't make me who I am just as my breast did not. If people don't like it then it is their problem. We are survivors.

hi Heidibird, i finished chemo A/C-Taxol august 25, 16. I am so worried because my hair is growing so slow and is so thin, especially in the front, I still have my head covered and wear a cap or wig when I go to my dr. appointments, has anyone else have a similar situation?

iz1999, - I am in the same boat re my hair.
I have thin whispy hair on top, that barely grows. In my case, I think it may be due to my years of tamoxifin and then femara, followed by numerous surgeries and chemo. It grew back, but nothing like it should be. All the photos here show me that mine is not the typical regrowth!

Mine started growing back around week 6 of taxol treatments. I'm not sure about the chemo mods for Her2+ though.

After DD AC + DD Taxol, my hair started to grow back around 6-weeks PFC. Results generally vary from person to person. Herceptin may have an impact on the speed of growth. Someone on this board should be able to chime in on that topic.

I am 13 weeks PFC, and still on Herceptin (for Her2) until Jan. 2018...my hair is short, maybe an inch but coming in VERY thick. I used rogaine, and surface awaken shampoo, conditioner, and liquid. I would post a pic if I could figure out how. It's also very stubborn and growing in crazy directions, but mostly sticks close to my head. I'm hoping it will be long enough to ditch the wig by the time I have to go back to work on the 21st.

When does hair quit shedding after chemo? I finished 12 weeks of Taxol 2 weeks ago. I didn't lose all my hair, but have lost tons the last 4-5 weeks. Trying to decide if I should just shave it or hang in there? It looks like I have some short hairs in the front that never quit growing so I hate to shave them off. I know a very short cut is coming, but trying to avoid a complete shave if possible. I wear hats now to cover up.

Saturday was my one year anniversary of cancer diagnosis and also the 6 month mark after finishing chemo. I'm really disappointed in my hair growth but at least my head is covered. The wigs are long put away. I'm just tired of getting all of the weird stares from people and I still find I avoid everyone I know so I don't have to answer their questions about why I look like I do. Most people still don't even know I went through cancer treatment and I'd rather keep it that way. Here's my hair 26 weeks pfc. It's still very thin on the top. I'm afraid this is the way it's going to stay. I'm ready to jump off of the cancer express and run as far as I can the opposite direction.

You look good Seq24. I don't know what your hair looked like before but to me you just look like a woman with a short haircut

seq24: Your hair looks great! I would be thrilled if my hair looked like yours. I'm 23 weeks PFC and my hair is barely an inch long at top. (My hair didn't start growing until 8 weeks PFC).
I don't think you are getting 'weird stares' from people. I think they're looking cause it looks good.
I'm hoping to ditch the head coverings soon, even though my hair is still very short. I have a high forehead, so I'm waiting for my bangs to grow a little more. My eyebrows and lashes are only about 80% back and seem to have stopped growing.

Seq24 I think the hair looks great too!

Seq, I know what it's like as I'm not that far ahead of you. I also know that 1 million people can tell you that your hair looks good, but if YOU don't like your hair, you won't believe them. That's exactly how I felt. I will tell you that all of a sudden in the last 2-3 weeks, my hair seems to be growing so much faster that before. I can even see new small hairs at the corners of my forehead. I had my hair colored about 6 weeks ago, and my gray roots are about 3/4" and really noticeable now. I've also been able to start shaping my hair a little bit by using a 3/4" curling iron. I've finally accepted that it doesn't look like a cancer haircut anymore. It's not what I want, but I'm OK going out now. Hang in. It will catch up soon. I've seen pics of you with longer hair, which was beautiful, but you'll have that again. I didn't believe that for quite a while, but now I do. Hugs for your hair!
Hapb, yes I've used Invati before bc. I really like it. I think all the Aveda products are really good and healthy for hair and skin.

Seq- I think you look great. I am about 18 weeks and do not have a lot of hair growth, I am hoping to have as much as you at 6 months.

I also have ditched my wigs in profile pics. Decided it's time to just be me! Have a good Wednesday everyone.

Dara, Your profile picture is lovely.

Dara look at that hair. It really looks great, and suits you I think. Having not seen you before I have no reference, but I like it!

I am 18 weeks out of chemo, my hair is growing, slowly, but growing. I don't think I had any growth for the first month or so. My eyelashes are bothering me more than my hair. They are growing but still thin and short. I hope my eyelashes come back.
0 -
mistyeyes, I'm sure your lashes will come back in, but be prepared that they may fall out again. I understand that eyelashes are on a cycle of growth. Since post chemo our lashes stated coming in all at the same time, their cycle is the same and hence they may fall out, not entirely, but quite a few. They'll come back again, and it's a process that takes a while to regulate. Mine are doing better, but still go through periods of real thinning and then come back fairly quickly.

Thanks everyone! It's just so hard to look at myself like this. I still think I look like a cancer patient. I saw someone at the store last night that I hadn't seen in a very long time. The first words out of her mouth were "what happened to your hair?!". I wanted to say, isn't it obvious?. But I was nice and told her why. I still have such a hard time talking about this cancer ordeal without crying. It's been an awful week. My husband was rear ended and his car was totalled, it's been a rough week with work, weather is unbearably hot, I haven't slept in several nights and the list goes on. Ok, that's enough whining for one post. Hope everyone is having a great week minus the anything that might stress you out.

This is 2.5 years PFC...still on Herceptin and Perjeta...but it doesn't seem very long to me. I've done all of the things to make it grow. It is getting very thin in front now after being fairly full. No cuts just dead ends off. Glad to have hair of course, but what do you all think
