Hair Hair Hair - Another question

Jane-my hair is about the same legnth and also stick straight (it's been like that my whole life). I prayed I would be lucky and at least get a wave, but no such luck. I think my facial features are big, so with the short, straight hair, I look "manly". Because of that, I still wear my wig.

Good morning Ladies - I'm baaaack - had a nice mini-vacay in South Carolina! It sure was hot there though.
Glad to have read all your posts - seems like everyone is moving along very nicely!!!! I am still experimenting with my new hair - thank God there is finally enough to play around with and try different techniques. The past day or two I have tried the gel thing and kinda just toussle the hair to give that 'messy' look - I don't know if that style is me though - but I'll keep trying. I'm just happy and grateful I've got it back enough to do that. Still waiting for the top/front to fill in though - hope it does soon!!!
Have a great day everyone!
Keep growing!!
Hugs,
Maggie

Titan,
FYI, I had someone tell me to check with my onc before taking the biotin and that you shouldn't take it until chemo is finished. Just make sure you check first, wouldn't want you to have any SE. HUGS, Dawn Keep hanging in there!

Thanks for the b-day wishes. Let me know what your onc says. I see mine on Tuesday so I'm going to ask her about it too. I need to get this hair growth on WARP-SPEED somehow.

My onc told me to wait 3 weeks after chemo is finished before taking Biotin.

ccbaby,
Thanks for the info. I noticed we're only a day apart in our diagnoses. January 2010 will be a better month!

8 weeks and 4 days PFC I just started biotin last week or earlier this week (I can't remember..hehe..)

I couldn't add 2 for some odd reason. Here is the back of me. BTW, my 4 year old took both pictures.

I think I may try some hair dye to color it some more. It looks gray right now and I am feeling kinda funny with my gray hair.

My onc said the same thing about biotin or any other vitamin... wait for 3 weeks before taking.
Jaimieh... loved the pics! AND, especially loved the fact your 4 year old took the pics.
Also, is anyone else having "hair dreams"?

I have that same sort of grayish/colorless baby hair like you have Jamie! If you dye it let me know how it goes. I'd like to do that as well, but wonder how this weird fuzzy hair will react to dye. I'm starting to feel some more brisly hairs popping out amongst the fuzz, hope it's some dark, real hairs.....

Jamieh, its coming in really good - but it is so light, just like my hair mixture - I have some natural darks and the lights, and you really can't tell how much is there. I broke down this morning and went to Walgreens and bought real hair color in my natural dark brown. My mom is here visiting this week and when I came out with it colored and a little styling product in it, she said, "wow, you do have a quite a bit of hair, you just couldn't see it!" so I am very glad I colored it. anything that helps. Next week will be 3 months PFC.
And yes, I am having dreams where I have full heads of hair . . . so maybe it will all come together soon!!! I'll try to get another photo posted soon - it's a pain with my digital camera, it's a 35 mm, so I have to set it on a timer.
Have a growing day!!

Jamieh, I'm 11 weeks PFC and have about what you do.....mine is a little darker though. I started the Biotin this week.

Wow Jaimieh - nice hair growth!!!
As far as the biotin goes - I did talk to my oncologist who told me it was ok to take it with chemo because it is considered a B vitamin supplement. What your body doesn't absorb, your body will expell. I guess you just have to go with your individual oncologists. Some are more familiar with the product than others. Maybe what would help is to print out the information on Biotin and give it to your oncologist when you ask him/her.
Like Jaimieh - my hair is laying flat on my head but a little bit longer (not much though) and I am wondering if this is a sign that I won't get chemo curls? When you get chemo curls do they happen right away? I am thinking that some of my hair is long enough to curl by now.
Personally I would like straighter hair as it looks longer than curly hair. My hair is also a mixture of gray and white hairs.
Someone on my stepfamily board suggested that maybe I put some colored mouse in it to see how it would look. Sounds great except when you are dealing with 102 degree weather and your head is sweating!! I can just picture mouse color on my hat and shirt as I drip with sweat from this heat.

Jancie~ I have some long pieces that seem to be curling in the back.
I tried to dye my hair tonight. I used some semi-perm. stuff and once I realized it could stain my scalp I got scared and took it off. I used a brush to put it on but I had a couple of marks on my scalp from the dye so I removed it after about 10 min. As I said I got scared My DH thinks I should just let it be but he just doesn't get it.

Chevlev, I'm about a month beyond that point (finished March 16th), but that's about how much hair I had at 12 weeks.
I had a "trim" last weekend, around the ears. I had to give a talk today to some young professionals, and I did it wigless, even though my hair is still thin. Put on a nice outfit and earings... The hardest part for me is not explaining why I have short, short hair and am thin on top, but I just gave my talk without mention of my appearance! This too shall pass!

Yes to the hair dreams!
My hair seems to be growing at a normal rate now, so I guess I have to stop complaining. I am just not a short hair person, my hair has always been long most of my life. The 2 times I did get stupid and had it all chopped off, I hated it. I just don't look like me with short hair.

Whew... glad others are having hair dreams. Seems like once-upon-a-time I had other types of dreams.
ccbaby... that's interesting about the aloe vera gel. After a while, during rads, I quit using the recommended various lotions that my rad onc recommended and started using pure aloe vera gel. It did sooo much better. Plus, I had developed a nasty looking liver spot during chemo. Used, again, the RX the dermatologist recommended for months. Switched only a week or so ago to aloe vera gel and the spot is almost gone!
Never heard of colored gel... going to look into that as well.
Magnola... a big congrats!

Mom of boys...I have had spots come up on my face during chemo...I am going to try the aloe vera gel there too as well as on my scalp and during rads. What brand do you use? I just bought 'Lily of the Desert' brand that is 99%. I hope it works good.0
